3 Page 3 MISGA (Maryland Interclub Golf Association) by Robert Allen DON T MISS MISGA IN OCTOBER October is the last month in the MISGA season. Also, October is full of opportunities for Cripple Creek to play in home and away events. Thursday, October 6: Away mixer at Wild Quail, which is south of Dover, Delaware. This is a great opportunity to play a great course. Tuesday, October 11: This is an away mixer at Rookery North in Milford, Delaware. It is the only mixer the Rookery is having at home this season, and I urge you to sign up and go. Thursday, October 13: Home mixer at Cripple Creek with guests from six other clubs. Please support MISGA at Cripple Creek by attending this mixer. Monday, October 24: 2016 MISGA season comes to an end with a Cripple Creek MISGA member only golf outing at Cripple Creek. Includes coffee, doughnuts, and lunch following golf. This should be a great finish for the 2016 MISGA season. Sign up sheets for these events will be posted in the golf shop. If you are not able to get to the golf shop, Robert Allen at jwa37@comcast.net or call him at to sign up for any of these events. You need to sign up at least three days before the scheduled date of the event. Let us know when you sign up if you want to car pool. Page 4 CCWGA 18 HOLE by Sandy Bunting Ladies 3 day Golfing Trip to Virginia Beach Twenty-six Cripple Creek Ladies enjoyed a Fall Get-Away in Virginia Beach from Sept. 11-14 th.

Day 1: Golf was enjoyed at the Red Wing Municipal Golf Course. While playing golf the ladies saw a fabulous Air Show by the Blue Angels.

4 Page 4 CCWGA 18 HOLE by Sandy Bunting Ladies 3 day Golfing Trip to Virginia Beach Twenty-six Cripple Creek Ladies enjoyed a Fall Get-Away in Virginia Beach from Sept th. The ladies had great accommodations at the Comfort Inn & Suites, wonderful dining at the restaurants in the area, opportunity to enjoy golf and play bridge, Mah Jongg & other card games. Day 1: Golf was enjoyed at the Red Wing Municipal Golf Course. While playing golf the ladies saw a fabulous Air Show by the Blue Angels. Day 2: Golf was played at the gorgeous, but difficult, Virginia National Golf Course. Our Pro, Brian Trout and Teaching Pro, John Lynch chaperoned our ladies and inspired them to play to their potential. Day 3: Golf was played at the stunning Heron Lakes Ridge Golf Course that had a great layout and very woman friendly. The golf trip was especially enjoyable since the weather was perfect! A special thanks to Dot Seling and Brian Trout for organizing this spectacular trip. Eighth Annual Dunes Creek Inter Club Challenge September 27 & 28 Tappy Phillips (Cripple Creek) and Donna Tanguay (Bear Trap) are this year s key organizers of this challenging, but friendly competition between Cripple Creek and Bear Trap. Cripple Creek s team players were Tappy Phillips and Kristen Bishop (Co-Captains), Donna Pierce, Sandy Bunting, Donna Murray, Paula Anderson, Cynthia Hunsberger, Marie Orr, Kathy Hudson, Joan Vanderbeek, Jan Parsons and Linda Zadjura. Cripple Creek won the Dunes Creek Inter Club Challenge in 2010, 2011, 2013 & 2014 and Bear Trap won it in 2009, 2012 & The tournament encourages team effort as the ladies participate in Scramble, Best Ball and Modified Alternate Shot formats. The Cripple Creek Team proudly announces they won the Dunes Creek Inter Club Challenge by 4 points (CC 93 to BT 89) so the beautiful Crystal Vase will be displayed at Cripple Creek until the next challenge. Upcoming Event: October 26th is Closing Day for the CCWGA with Golf, Luncheon, Meeting and Awards Presentations. 5 Page 5 GOLF COMMITTEE REPOR T by Glen Reid September opened with the 2 nd day of the men s Cripple Bear tournament. Even though we had a gallant showing, we lost the cup on the second day matches, allowing the Bear Trap men to take the trophy back. Our ladies though have come through and regained the Dunes Creek Cup with a convincing 83 to 79 victory over the Bear Trap ladies. Cripple Creek was again a big contributor to the annual Operations Seas the Day week, in Bethany. The Car Show, spearheaded by Joe Dougherty, as well as the annual 3-Man challenge, organized by Don Antonucci, were both great successes. The 3-Man tournament alone donated over $11,000 to the cause. Cripple Creek was the largest donor to this fantastic event. Things kind of slowed a little this month with aeration, but the course is back in shape and playing has resumed with vigor. On a good news bad news point, we lost John Lynch this month. For those who are not aware, he has been appointed head professional at New Mexico State University golf course, and will be assisting in coaching his alma mater s NCAA Division 1 golf team. If you get out to Las Cruces, give him a call. I m sure he ll comp you on a round. Some of the things the Golf Committee will be looking at for next year include scheduling of outside events, tournament formats, re-rating of our course, including the possibility of White-Black, and White-Gold blended tees, and the expansion of our Junior program. Finally we have gotten back on track, with Bob Davis getting a hole-in-one this month. His third. As he said, if you hit enough shots, one is bound to go in. Must say, it hasn t worked for me yet. Fall is here and temperatures are perfect, so get out there and enjoy the course. While you are there, don t forget to check out all the new merchandise in the Golf Shop. It is really nice! And my monthly plea to everyone: Fill your divots Fix your ball mark on the green, and any others you see Keep carts away from greens and tee boxes and heed the cart signs Don t forget, we have reversed our previous Local Rule, allowing you to tap-down spike marks in your putting line. Please be considerate of others and tap down these scuff marks before leaving the green after finishing the hole.
