2 Studham Green Office Golf Society What do you do at the end of a long hard week at work? Well if you are a golfer, of course, you play golf. But what about all those week-end jobs that the wife has scheduled for you? How do you manage to do the jobs and play golf? A group of men (mainly of the older rather than the younger variety) who live in the Studham neighbourhood have come up with a solution. They work even harder and longer during the week, but only until Friday lunchtime. Then they all meet at Whipsnade Park Golf Club to pursue their passion. But where do you say you are when a colleague, wife or partner asks your whereabouts on a Friday afternoon? One of the group was heard to explain on the phone to a colleague that he was at the office. No, not the head office, the green office. When asked he explained that as it was Friday he was obviously in the office it was just that this office, with its fairways and greens, was a Green Office, And so the Studham Green Office Golf Society was born. Its headquarters is at The Red Lion Pub in Studham to which the players retire after each game. As the society grew in numbers the members decided that it would be a good idea to have an annual golf day to raise funds to help some of the many deserving causes in the neighbourhood. Then someone suggested that it would be a good idea to have a Village Plate onto which members could put the small change that they were always complaining about having to carry around. This plate now contributes about 600 a year. Each year the members decide where the funds that have been raised will be allocated. On average about 6,500 is available. The policy of the group is to donate the funds to local projects that generally are centred on the children of the village. The split for funds raised in 2016 is as follows: Studham Kensworth & Whipsnade Scout Group 4000 L & D children s oncology ward 1000 Studham Cricket Club 1000 Appledown Rescue 500

4 Bad Bones kicked off the live entertainment at The Red Lion and brought in with them the new years fun. Playing an eclectic range of music to the delight of all who attended. There is quite a lot of live music arranged for this year so it's well worth while checking out the blackboards in the Red Lion and obviously the monthly newsletter. The Ukulele band are a feature of the pub playing once a month on the first Wednesday

5 The Red Lion s purpose made children's play area, was put to good use last year allowing quality time with the children whilst enjoying a day out. Swings -slide - climbing frame - rocking horse and Wendy house. means something for all. The rubber floor made from cuttings covering the grass area, completely enclosed makes this a safe environment for your children to play whilst you can enjoy the Red Lion fayre. 7 Studham s own music festival returns for its fifth year and it promises to be even bigger and better. This year will see a wide array of acts on display and a wealth of talent. Last years successful event raised much needed funds for the event s chosen charity, Clic Sargent, which helps care for young people with cancer, and provides support for their families. Please remember all funds raised to go to the charity and nothing towards the cost of the festival. More bands are in the festival line-up than last year, several local bands and solo artists will perform including of course Studhams own The Common People The turn out last year for this event was astonishing despite the inclement weather, and it is gaining momentum every year. Estimated numbers for this road blocking event could be in the thousands the organisers hope this year s event will raise an even bigger amount for "Clic".

The Ukulele band that performed here last year in the afternoon, were so entertaining that they will be joining us every month from February onwards. They play to raise money for their chosen charity so there is even more reason to come in and support them. A brilliant group of people who joined together to entertain you all for free. One not to be missed
