2 EVENTS SCHEDULE (SUBJECT TO CHANGE) DAY 1 - SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 2014 ($30.00 per discipline) Start Time: 8.00 am Working Horse Challenge (three patterns Hack, Working and Time Trial see attached). Only the first 200 entries to be accepted. Maximum of two horses/one rider allowed in both disciplines. Age groups are: Age Group Hack Working Time Trial 9 and under H1 W1 TT years H1 W1 TT years H5 W4 TT3 16 years plus H13 W19 TT3 Sporting Events: Start Time: noon All events in individual age groups ie 7 and under, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16+. Girls and boys ride separately. Events are bend, flag, barrel, pony twist and scudeho. Start Time: 3.00 pm Team Mug Race (4 per team) for both primary/secondary students (in main arena) NIGHT EVENTS commencing at 6.00 pm Opening Ceremony Demonstration of Horseball Horse Vaulting by NEGS students DAY 2 - SUNDAY 19 OCTOBER 2014 ($30.00 per discipline) Start Time: 8.00 am Ring Events: Hack, Rider, Child s Hack and Pleasure Hack. Each student will ride in two rings by two judges, therefore student will ride in eight events in individual age groups as follows: - 7 and under, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, Girls and boys ride separately ONLY in Riding class. All others events combined. - Champion Riders and Champion Hack - Supreme Rider and Supreme Hack to be judged by all judges Sporting Events (no charge for second day of sporting if you paid sporting on first day maximum of two horses/one rider in sporting only) Start Time: pm 2.00 pm. Events to include pole bend, two flag race, diamond flag, bottle race, bonfield bounce. Champion ribbons for sporting to be awarded at night. Whip must measure not less than 90 cm and not more than 1.20 (including the tassel) 7 and under - any NSW Pony Club approved bit allowed and whips may be smaller than 90 cm Snaffle bit and noseband compulsory (Champion Rosette for each age group. If more than 10 riders in an age group Reserve Champion will be awarded.) Dressage and showjumping draws will be ed to all schools prior to event. 5 RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Only students enrolled at school (K-12) may compete at ISHE The age of competitors will be their age as at 31 st December In the event of ISHE being oversubscribed the Committee reserve the right to limit the entries. The ISHE committee reserves the right to refuse any entry without reason. 2. This is an interschool children s competition run by volunteers. When entering and competing please be mindful of the spirit of this competition. Be respectful to all officials and volunteers and be mindful of warm-up arena etiquette. 3. All horse disciplines will be conducted according to the Pony Club Association of NSW Regulations, Equestrian Federation of Australia (EFA) or the Association for Horsemanship, Safety and Education (AHSE) rules, as appropriate as per the DET NSW Horse Sports Policy dated 24 November To enter this event the student must have permission from their school. Non-government school students are required to send a copy of their school s Certificate of Currency Insurance to ishetamworth@gmail.com no later than 1 September If this is not supplied the student will be unable to ride on the day. 5. EACH HORSE MUST HAVE A SEPARATE BRIDLE NUMBER. THESE CAN BE PURCHASED THROUGH HORSELAND OR ANY EQUINE STORE. Spares will be available to purchase from ISHE at the Secretary s Office. No horse can be ridden or lunged without the official bridle number clearly displayed on the near side of the bridle/halter. This also applies to horses arriving on the Friday. It is compulsory to use the bridle number. All scoring is dependent on the number being worn and no results will be recorded for horses not displaying a number. This applies to ALL classes. 6. A Veterinarian will be on site for the duration of the Event. You will need to pay for any medications needed at the time. 7. The committee reserves the right to alter or delete items from the program at their discretion. 8. The ISHE committee reserves the right to vet out any horse they deem unfit or unable to compete safely at any stage of an event. Any ill treatment of horses will incur instant elimination. No stallions will be permitted on the grounds. 9. Stewards will marshall riders to their events and reserve the right to stand down any rider found to have unsafe or inappropriate gear. 10. Lunging of horses and the warming up of horses is permitted only in designated warm up areas. 11. No pushbikes or scooters are permitted on the ground. 12. No riding of horses after dark unless competing in an event. No riding of horses without a bridle and saddle unless required in competition. No riding of horses that are wearing rugs. No riding of horse in stable areas. 13. In the spirit of interschool competition, no parent, team manager, or instructor will coach riders from inside the arenas at any time. This rule will be strictly enforced and may result in the elimination of the rider from the event. 14. All children 7 years and under participating must be competent independent riders. This rule applies to all ages. 15. Any Competitor not complying with Pony Club Rules will be stood down. 16. Competitors are required to walk at all times on the grounds except in warm up area and when competing. Hooning around on horses between events is not allowed. 17. Please ensure your competitors are on time and in the correct location for their events. 18. Scratching To be notified to the Secretary s Office as early as possible. 19. Refunds will be supplied to entrants under the following conditions: a) Prior to closing date of 1 September full refund less 10% administration fee. Version 7 (4.8.14) Page 5
6 b) On or after 1 September 2014 entry fees will be forfeited unless a medical or veterinary certificate is received. A 10% administration fee will be retained where refunds are approved under medical grounds. 20. NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS exception dogs entered in Hoof and Woof Competition. 21. No spectators are permitted to ride on a competitor s horse. 22. To ride at this event the rider does not have to be a pony club member. 23. Schools may enter any number of students. 24. Workers the School SHOULD provide the name of workers, other than team manager to assist on the day. 25. School ties, beige jodhpurs and school jumpers to be worn NO COATS. School sports shirts may be worn in sporting events. 26. Point Score: 1 st = 5 points, 2 nd = 4 points, 3 rd = 3 points, 4 th = 2 points, 5 th = 1 points 27. To be eligible for championship points there must be more than three (3) entries in each age group. 28. Judge s decision is FINAL. 29. Cancellations due to wet weather will be announced over Radios 2TM and Armidale after the 6.00 am news on the day or ring for a recorded message. 30. Any competitor who wishes to participate with ISHE must complete the electronic Disclaimer Statement and PSSA Medical Information Sheet with Nominate. Non competitors ie parents, spectators or persons assisting students at the event are not covered by our insurance. Only the nominated rider/competitor can ride horse/s at any time during the competition. ISHE takes no responsibility for persons (other than the ISHE Organising Committee members) on the grounds areas outside the period 7.00 am Saturday, 18 October to 5.00 pm on Monday, 20 th October ISHE is conducted independently of the Department of Education and Training, Independent and Catholic Education systems. It is the responsibility of competing schools to ensure that their students are competing in accordance with the requirements of their particular educational system. 32. HENDRA VACCINATION. This vaccination is the single most effective way of reducing the risk of Hendra virus infection in both horses and humans. Human infection and deaths have occurred following high-level exposure to body fluids from infected horses. Vaccinating horses is an important measure to prevent this occurring and provides a public health and workplace health and safety benefit. The vaccine must be administered by a veterinarian. Some veterinarians may refuse to attend unvaccinated sick horses. All parents/guardians should also be aware of the correct biosecurity procedures if they do no vaccinate their horses against the Hendra virus. For further information please see the Department of Primary Industries - and the Australian Veterinary Association - It is NOT compulsory to have your horses vaccinated for this event but if they are up-to-date please complete the necessary details on the entry form via Nominate. 33. Schools and riders enter at their own risk. A Waiver Form must be ticked by parent or guardian when entering on Nominate. 34. HELPER S ROSTER: The helper s roster will be available one week prior to the commencement of the event. Every rider/horse combination must have a helper and all jobs must be done or a substitute person nominated. The organising committee will take all reasonable steps to avoid clashes between the draw and helpers rosters, however no guarantees are provided. 35. Random drug testing of horses will be performed throughout the duration of the event. Version 7 (4.8.14) Page 6
7 TEAM MANAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. All team managers must be approved by their School Principal. All nominations must be approved by the team manager appointed by that school. 2. While the students are not competing they are the sole responsibility of the Team Manager. Team Managers owe a Duty of Care to their students and are responsible for the supervision and behavior of students at all times. Team Managers are totally responsible for the conduct of their riders. Should there be any queries or problems during the day, the Team Manager is the person designated to negotiate on behalf of the rider/school. 3. Team Managers must ensure that each rider s equipment is SAFE and are responsible for their team. Smooth soled boots and either ASNZ3838, ASTMF 1163 and EN1384 helmets must be worn. Random checks will be performed throughout the day. Any queries to be directed to stewards. 4. Team Managers are required to carry out a gear check on all of their competitors and horses according to Pony Club Association guidelines. Gear must be checked prior to the 8.00 am start and if a rider replaces or changes gear prior to commencing another discipline. 5. Disputes and Protests - the Team Manager must lodge appeals in writing a soon as is practical on a ISHE Competitor Query Form after results being posted, together with a fee of $70.00 (refunded if protest upheld) to the Secretary s office. The dispute will be referred to the head steward. When the dispute has been answered the Team Manager will be called to the Secretary s Office to receive a reply. The committee s decision is final. The Team Manager is the only person to attend the Secretary s Office for any information, results, complaints, queries etc of any nature during the ISHE Event. Information will not be given to the competitor, parent or guardian. 6. Team Manager must be in attendance on the day for the duration of the day and Team Managers are responsible for gear checks of their team. Any queries should be directed to stewards. All gear must be in accordance with Pony Club Standards. 7. All schools to bring stopwatches as all schools will be rostered to help in sporting. 8. One child is invited from each school to walk with a banner in indoor arena at Opening Ceremony. 9. It is the competitor s/team manager s responsibility to know when the courses are open for walking and the start time of each event. Draw times are an indication of how the day will run. A move up draw will apply if scratching occurs. STABLE BEDDING: Additional stable bedding will only be available through the Furney s Office at AELEC until Saturday lunchtime. FARRIERS: Farriers mobile numbers will be posted on the noticeboard. Bring an old or spare set of shoes for your horse. FEED/HAY: Feed/hay is available through Furney s Office at AELEC during the hours stated at their Office. Version 7 (4.8.14) Page 7
