3 2018 SHOW PRESIDENTS: Ian & Roma Room The Presidents Message We came to Rhydycroesau in 1963 from Cannock in the West Midlands, after meeting at Rodbaston Farm College in We first lived at Highland Cefn Canol and then moved to Middle Cynynion in These have been our homes and the Village Hall our social life, especially since In mid December 1975 Harold Tomley, Warren Hawkesley (Local Councillors) and Ronald Egerton (The Rector) met with a handful of locals, Graham Borman, Peggy Gilchrist and the Pecks being high on the list. Graham was an art teacher at the Girls High School and husband to Judy (nee Peck) at the Village Shop and Post Office. Previously the hall had been a school and when the school closed down it became the Church Hall. Now it was to become the Village Hall, with an improvement grant from The Community Council of Shropshire and a lot of work was done by the local folks. At that time there were over 20 children between the ages of 11 and 15 and a games club was started on Fridays to occupy the winter evenings. Then in 1976 Edgar and Llinos kindly said we could use their field, Graham found a programme of horticultural, cooking and art classes from the High School, Peggy said she would do a Gymkhana for the local children to compete in. Rhydycroesau Village Show was born and was the first major event in the Village in our era was a notoriously dry summer, i.e. until our show came around in early September. Many have stories (those that go back that far, that is) about the rain at our very first show, although it did ease off a little for the show itself. The Show established itself as a meeting place for all the area: Hello, haven t seen you since last year s show just about sums it all up. Page 1 Ian & Roma Room, Presidents
