2 Summer Picnic 2017 The annual ATFA Summer picnic was held at Pell City Park on August 5, Members and friends enjoyed a barbecue lunch catered by The Shack of Pell City. Following lunch President Walter Phillips announced the schedule for the upcoming hunt season and introduced newly elected Board of Directors member Barbara Coxwell. He also read the new Telemetry Rule passed by the Board of Directors at their meeting. This new rule can be found below. It does not replace any current rule but is designed to increase the safety of our dogs and handlers. The rule will be announced at each hunt and anyone with questions should contact a board member or officer. It was announced that this year the season long raffle item will be a complete tracking system. Members will be able to purchase raffle tickets at each of the hunts and the drawing will be held at LBL in March. Further details on the system will be posted on the web page, in the next newsletter, and at each of the hunts. Board members Mark Beason and Jeffrey Fulghum are working to develop an ATFA app for our smart phones. The Board voted to post the newsletter on our website as a way to allow more people to learn about ATFA and our activities. The annual Treasurer s Report was presented and accepted by the Board. It is printed on the next page. Dawn and Ronnie O Neal were presented with the annual Claude A Shumate III Memorial Sportsmanship Award for their many years of service to ATFA. A raffle was held and included a tracking collar purchased by the club as a way of giving back to all the members who so faithfully support ATFA. More than 20 dogs were inspected for registration at the picnic, a sign we will see more hunters in the woods this season...look out squirrels! Telemetry Rule TRACKING SYSTEMS/TRAINING COLLARS: Tracking Receiver/Transmitter (handhelds) paired with collars that are NOT capable of producing any type of tone, vibration or electronic stimulation may be powered on and used at all times. Audio alerts on tracking receivers (handhelds) must be muted. Tracking collars that are capable of producing any type of audio, tone, or electronic stimulation may not be used at any time. Tracking system use during the cast is intended for the personal use of the handler and the safety of the handler s dog only. No information obtained from tracking devices will be permitted for use in scoring situations in the woods or at panel question hearings. In accordance with current ATFA rule dog (s) must be heard before handlers (s) can make a call and all time-out requirements still apply. Handlers must agree to allow the other cast members to check their tracking system for any electronic stimulation, vibration, or tone capability at any time requested. Anyone found to have modified tracking or training equipment to disguise electronic tone or stimulation capability will be scratched. Dummy collars are not allowed. These rules are to be strictly enforced. Any time a handler is scratched for tracking equipment infractions; misconduct charges MUST BE reported to master of the hunt/atfa Board Members and ATFA President. Page 2 A TFA NEWS LE TT ER

4 Missouri Regional Hunt - October 21st Two Regional hunts will be held on October 21, 2017 near Doniphan, Missouri. Hunt headquarters will be the Pine Bardley Fire Station. The station is located 20 miles west of Doniphan on US Highway 160. Arland Phillips will be the hunt host. The hunts will be held in the Mark Twain National Forest and there will be a 30 dog limit. Pre-registration begins October 1, This is the first date that entries can be postmarked. The form and mailing instructions can be found below. Please check if you would like to be included in a senior cast. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Saturday at the fire station. A raffle will be held between the morning and afternoon hunts. Members are en- couraged to bring items to raffle. Check in deadline will be 6:00 am with a 6:30 am drawout for the morning hunt. Afternoon check in deadline is 1:30 pm with a 2:00 pm draw-out. There will be a championship cast on Friday afternoon. Please contact Arland ( ) in advance to let him know that you plan to hunt in the championship cast. Drawout will be at 2:00 pm. 5 Membership and Yearbook Updates: If you have not renewed your membership for the year, this will be your final newsletter. Dues are $15 per year for an Individual Membership and $20 per year for a Family Membership. A renewal form can be found on the back page of this newsletter or you can renew using PayPal on the ATFA website. It is important to verify your mailing address and phone number with the secretary to make sure she has accurate information. The edition of the ATFA Yearbook will be mailed to all current members that didn t pick the book up at the picnic. Books are mailed presorted rate, and take extra time to arrive due to the size of the package. If you have questions or don t receive your book, please contact Barbara Coxwell ( ) Anyone who moves or has the post office change an address and does not send ATFA the new address will not receive newsletters or yearbooks because presort mail is not automatically forwarded. The yearbook was another great book thanks to everyone who submitted an ad. If you didn t submit an ad this year, consider one for next year, it is a great way to support our organization! Start taking pictures as you begin the season and you will be ready for yearbook ad time. If you take pictures with your phone use the highest resolution possible to get the best quality picture. 6 Fall Rally Hunt - November 5th The Fall Rally Hunt will be held at the Heiberger Community Center on Saturday, November 4, The community center is located between Brent and Marion on Highway 5 in Heiberger. Our hosts will be Susan and Greg Horton. There will be a squirrel champions hunt on Friday afternoon. Please contact Greg or Susan if you plan to participate in the championship cast. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Saturday. Greg and Susan plan to have a raffle and all ATFA members are encouraged to bring items. There will be a 30 dog limit on entries. Pre-registration begins October 14, This is the first date that entries can be postmarked. The form and mailing instructions are found below. Check in deadline will be at 5:30 am, 30 minutes prior to the morning draw-out at 6:00 a.m. Directions: From Brent: Take Hwy 5 South approximately 15 miles. The club house will be on the left side of the road. From Marion: Take Hwy 5 North approximately 15 miles. The club house will be on the right side of the road.
