1 TIMES A quarterly publication of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing Located at 100 Baltimore Road, York Springs, PA 2012 Issue No. 4 published in September 2012 The FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello members! I m going to start on a sad note; we lost Chuck Miller August 20th. Chuck took care of our newsletter and the memberships. He will be greatly missed. Our Convention was a big hit this year paying tribute to Jack Frazier and Frank Sagi. Our car count was over 100 and our two Grand Marshalls Ted Seiders and Dizzy Dean had a great time. Remember, next year s Convention we will be honoring Paul Miller and York County Racing Club. Attendance at the Museum is up and we still need help staffing the place. If you can help one day a month it would help a lot. Upcoming Events this Fall and Winter: September 29, 2012 Auction at Williams Grove Speedway, starting at 11 am to 12:30 pm October 7 8, 2012 Car Auction and Flea Market at November 11, 2012 Lobitz Movie Party and Auction at Hazleton December 1 2, 2012 Holiday Open House at Hope you can make one or all of our events. We will start our Thursday Night Work Parties from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm after the New Year each week, weather permitting. Lynn Paxton President, Williams Grove Speedway Supports with Generous Donations and Photo Opportunities wants to thank Williams Grove Speedway owner Kathy Hughes and General Manager Justin Loh for inviting us to do a photo opportunity with the cars the past few months. It was an added feature for members this summer. Madison Derickson Williams Grove donated half of the 50/50 money to and we are very grateful for that. We are looking forward to working with them again in Williams Grove Speedway is located just 20 minutes north of and has been home of American Sprint car racing since Williams Grove s track is a 1/2-mile banked clay oval track that hosts 410 Sprint car racing. Racing takes place on weekends March through October plus special sanctioned races that include World of Outlaws, All Stars, URC Sprints, and ARDC Midget cars. Nancy Miller Dodson Wedding Reception held at Congratulations to Stephanie & Doug Dodson on their wedding August 11, The newlyweds held their reception at. They chose to have some photos taken near the flagstand at Latimore Valley Fairgrounds racetrack. Best of Luck!!! 2012 Issue No. 4 The Times 1
2 Craig Agan Development, CRAIG s What an exciting summer season it has been for the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing! Old friends and new are becoming a part of the family and making things happen! The new vintage bus that came to recently courtesy of Joe & Kitty Darrah at J & K Salvage will be a wonderful addition to the fairgrounds! Providing a shuttle for our guests between the museum and the fairgrounds is an important service during all of our events. Justin Zoch at Flat Out magazine is putting together a photo layout of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and our recently opened Phase IV addition for the upcoming October issue. Well known western Pennsylvania photographer Paul Arch, a good friend of the, did all the shooting. Watch for this issue of Flat Out, with Justin and Paul working together it is bound to be an impressive layout! More info included elsewhere in this issue. See you soon! Craig Agan Racing Around the Museum Amanda Chmiola-Eshenour Admin. Coordinator., As I watched my daughter get ready to start pre-kindergarten and transition to a new room with new teachers and new rules, I can t help but laugh. I did that about six months ago here at. I ve met a lot new people, figured out what goes where, and can t believe the summer is over. There has been a lot that I ve tackled in the past six months. We now have a new museum brochure, I have taken over the membership list and between Kay Melchi and I, we are putting the newsletter together. The new point-of-sale computerized cash register is now up and working in the Gift Shop. A barcode system will put in place after the Holiday Open House. You will no longer have to manually enter the PLU number in the computer just scan the barcode. This will make volunteering in the gift shop much simpler. There will be training for gift shop volunteers in March If you have not been trained on the system, please contact me to schedule a date and time. I have a small group of volunteers that keep coming to my rescue when I need a date filled at the last minute and for that I THANK YOU! But I m looking get more people involved and help out in the museum. We only have a month left until we close for the winter. Here are the dates I still need filled: Sept. 29th and 30th, October 5th, 6th 7th, 8th, and 11th from 5-9 pm, 13th 14th, and 27th. I am also looking for volunteers to help during the Holiday Open House on December 1st and 2nd. Amanda Eshenour Future Race Car Driver Sophia Jane points out that s events are fun for everyone! 2 The Times 2012 Issue No. 4
