FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello everyone Firstly I offer my apologies for the few months that have passed since I sat down to write something for the club newsletter. Life just seems to have become so busy and juggling work, motorsport and house renovations all at once has been a little exhausting. We have just finished our Summer Series racing and for the first time in many years (thirteen I m told) we included a Taupo round. This was not attended as well as we had hoped and resulted in a loss for the club, but we are committed to keeping Taupo as a round going forward and a date change has been made to November with the exact weekend yet to be determined. We had a good contingent of the production race series and NZ Tranzam cars along with some racing saloons and muscle cars and many thanks to all who participated. Apart from one wet meeting at Hampton Downs the rest of the series was well attended and the club overall will cover its costs for the season. The racing was hard and even fierce at times but we had very few incidents and the standard of driving was very high so a great many thanks to all who competed and congratulations to all of the class winners, well-earned and deserved I would say. I know a great many of the classes have their own prize giving evenings but all of the regular classes that competed will be invited along to the Auckland Car Club prize giving for which a date will be issued shortly and your attendance would be much appreciated. While the season has been ticking away we have been working hard on two other events that will be happening this year with the first being the Far North Rally. Unfortunately due to two large rally meetings in the South Island (one each side of our usual date in June) means that cars will camp down there and not return northward resulting in that we have had to alter our date to 22 nd of September. This year we are also catering for the historic rally cars so hopefully we will have plenty of old school BDA s, Rotary s and such like which are hugely impressive to watch and listen to. The second event is Thunder in the Park which will be the 7 th, 8 th and 9 th of December. For me THITP was always the most iconic and best event on the Auckland Calendar drawing large crowds and the best classes from around the country to compete. This year it will have the banner of the New Zealand International Grand Prix NZIGP Thunder in the Park and it will have a historic flavour. It will be run on circuit two (the old full back straight) and we are hoping to have some very cool classes for you to come and enjoy and I for one am very excited about this event. We will also have our AGM coming up shortly and for those of you that are club members please make an effort to come along and have your say and to listen to what the club has planned for the future. Craig Holmes will be releasing the AGM date via to all members.

Speaking of members the clubs membership continues to grow and we are currently sitting at over 600 full members and combined with life and honorary members we are around 800, which is very encouraging and a great trend to have and long may it continue. Well that s about it from me for now All the best Brett Davy SOMETHING NEW.. Power of the Future? There has been a big push for Electric powered cars in recent years and it looks like the future is set for electric powered cars to become a major part of productions in the next few years to come. Tesla has shown what can be done with battery powered cars recently, showing that they not only look pretty but are actually functional and fast. Now Porsche is following suit with their Concept Study Mission E. this is what they have to say about electric cars. What do we at Porsche think of when we look to tomorrow? Sports cars, naturally. But we also look for sustainable mobility, and consider trends for digitisation and urbanisation. Because in the future our sports cars will tackle these routes too in pole position bringing new technologies from the race track to the road. Concept Study Mission E we take our next step towards the future. With an all-electric sports car that defines our vision of e-mobility. The time is ripe for this study. It shows that, in addition to our plug-in hybrids, all-electric drive systems can truly meet our standards of intelligent performance. For us, this declaration is distilled into one clear philosophy: Porsche E-Performance. Our Concept Study Mission E is still just an idea but it embodies our complete vision of allelectric driving. E-Performance, Porsche style, integrated in a harmonious overall concept. Concept Study Mission E sets the stage for tomorrow. With its design and its technology, it provides answers to the question of the sports car of the future. New Zealand racing legend, Rod Millen opens his private grounds at the Leadfoot Ranch to host more than 150 champion and competitive race participants. Alister McRae defends Leadfoot Festival title: Beating the best and fastest machines at the Leadfoot Festival, Scottish rally star Alister McRae clocked the quickest time of 49.15secs in the Top Ten Shootout to defend his winner s title. Piloting the Vantage Subaru up Rod Millen s 1.6km driveway in Hahei, the Coromandel Peninsula, McRae ran last but made it count. He bettered his 2017 time of 49.43secs and despite oil on the track and having to bed in some new slicks. McRae had a heart-in-mouth moment up the top of the 1.6km hill climb when he was hurtling through the forest and went for fourth gear only to have it jump back out. I wasn t the most gentle, I just smashed it back in, he says. We also had some of our local Auckland Car Club men at the prestigious event.. Phil Hall and Lewis Frayne. Cont.

Lewis Frayne Subaru WRX Aged 24, Lewis has been in New Zealand for just over nine years. He has always loved racing and started in total max go-karts at Rye house in Hertfordshire, England. Ten years on and he is now racing in the Auckland Car Club Production Race series. Lewis has built this Subaru from the ground up over two years and it is his dream to run at the Leadfoot Festival Subaru WRX: This Team Chilli Racing WRX, car was actually one of only ten cars used by Subaru to take out clients round the Suzuka circuit in Japan and was used from 1997 to The car has been brought back to its original condition and then made into a race car by Lewis here in New Zealand. Phil Hall Subaru WRX STI Type RA Phil has been involved with cars and motorbikes from a young age. His earliest memory was his dad racing around Pukekohe. He started competing in motokhana/autocrosses and won the Dayle ITM series and Auckland Car Club (ACC) Exide trophy in Phil took a break whilst starting his family then entered the Production Race Series (PRS) for the 2016/17 season and won class B and finished second overall in series. Phil has also won the Auckland Car Club Endurance Series Trophy and the Victoria Trophy. He is currently competing in 2017/18 PRS Subaru WRX STI Type RA: The Type RA was built from the factory as a lightweight version of the original WRX STi. This car has been created within the mould of a circa 1990 s Group A touring car by the Hall SpeedSport team. It has circuit-spec body preparation, plus a late model STi driveline components, which are augmented with numerous motorsport upgrades. It runs Yokohama tyres and Subaru All-Wheel Drive puts down the power of the strengthened STi 2-litre Boxer engine that uses Motul fluids and produces about 390hp.

NO DISAPPOINTMENT DESPITE DRAMAS FOR LIAM LAWSON Teenage racer Liam Lawson got his European racing campaign off to a perfect start with a podium finish in the very first race of the German Formula 4 season at Oschersleben. Lawson qualified his Turners sponsored car in fourth place but slipped down a spot in the opening laps before two superb passing moves during the 30-minute race moved him back up to third place. Driving for Dutch-based team Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR), Lawson staged two great fight backs in the other two races to leave his mark in the highly competitive series, which attracted 21 cars for the opening round. After bagging a podium in race one, the 16-year-old from Pukekohe was at an immediate disadvantage in race two, forced to start at the back of the grid following a mechanical issue between the two qualifying sessions and he hit the track to set a time with just minutes to spare. All the other drivers had banked their qualifying laps early on and by the time Lawson was up to speed, rain started falling and he couldn't manage a competitive lap before the end of the session. However a blinding start in the race saw Lawson charge from 19th to 11th before a post-race penalty dropped him back to 18th, from where he had to start the final race of the weekend. Again, Lawson charged from the lowly starting position and moved up 8 spots in just four laps. "The Turners car was very fast for the final race. My team made some changes and we had mega pace," said Lawson. As the young Kiwi driver was challenging for ninth place, he was pushed off the track and his car suffered a front-wheel puncture. He dropped a lap but nevertheless came away with 15 championship points for the weekend. "I can't be disappointed about getting my first podium with VAR, the team did really well to have a driver on the podium in every race. "I'm feeling really confident with the Turners car, we had good pace, it was just a shame the weekend ended like this. Hopefully we can bounce back big at round two." Meanwhile the team has headed for further testing this week at Lausitzing, before the next championship round in three weeks time at Hockenheim.

NEWS FROM THE SUMMER SERIES 2018 Production Race Series The Production Race Series has had a successful 3 rd season with a number of new members as well as a lot of first time drivers being introduced to motorsport NZ events. The race series has had on average a 30 car grid each round, the Rotary Racing Enthusiasts (RRE) joining us for a few rounds this year as well. The Taupo round saw the Production Race Series with a 21 car grid and despite the weather, had a great 1 hour endurance race. We are all looking forward to the 2018/19 season with enthusiasm and can t wait to get back to racing.

Northern Muscle Cars Round 7 Hampton Downs With a good weather forecast and turnout for our last round, 14 Muscle cars including guest Russell Dunn in his 1971 XY Falcon made the grid and one interloping late model Commodore. I suspect this race may be the the first race in NZ in the last 40 years where there were 3 Chargers on the grid. I would be pleased to hear your thoughts on this. Tony G in the Charger scorched qualifying with a personal best of 1:09.3, followed by Allan Pearce in the red Commodore and Colin Schischka in the Corvette. Troy was the leading Class B car, soon to be Class A by the lap time he put in, a very quick 1: Race 1 got under way in fine conditions but with Colin s Corvette joining the field from pit lane after some rear suspension issues were rectified. Kevin in the white Charger withdrew after a couple of laps with throttle cable issues causing a safety car to be deployed and Kayton after the rain started with electrical issues. Both were rectified in time for the next race. Tony G led the way home followed by Allan and Troy. Mike Dias produced a good lap time to get into the 1:13 s and came home 4 th overall. Race 2, our first handicap race, was led home by Craig Horn in the red XU-1 Torana followed by a quickly closing Allan and Tony G. This was to be the final race of the day for class winner Tony Mackenzie-Edwards as his immaculate blue XD Falcon had succumbed to drive shaft issues. Mike in the VN Commodore also retired but was to reappear for the last race. The final race of the day was started under dubious weather conditions with Veen opting for wets but in the end with hindsight the wrong choice. Our guest Russell in the XY Falcon came out the eventual winner, again followed by Allan in the Commodore and Tony G in the Charger. Mike in the VN Commodore got oh so close to the 1:12 s with a 1: It was really great to see some non-competing members at the track as well, thanks guys, hopefully you will be there next season with your cars. So the season ends with these overall results: Class A 1 st, Colin Schischka, 2 nd Kayton Coughey, 3 rd Tony Galbraith. Class B 1 st Tony Mackenzie-Edwards, 2 nd Chris Anderson, 3 rd Graham Cargill. Invitation Class 1 st Mike Dias, 2 nd Ron Findlay 3rd Dave Sturrock. Photo credits to Street Style Photography.

All Classic Japanese Series 2017/18 Season Report Once again the ACJS has had an exciting season of racing. With the exception of the Taupo round, which tends to suffer because of the holidays, grid numbers were always over 12, with 16 or more on several occasions. From the outset it was obvious that there was going to be a battle in Group 2 between Brittany Sheweiry and Jason Brown, with them exchanging round wins throughout the whole season. Unfortunately for Jason his crash at Pukekohe in the penultimate round cost him valuable points and Brittany took the title by one point. Scott Curtis slow start to the season, and mechanical issues for Linda Grey, gave Bryce Richards his rookie Group 1 title. The Invitation class was the standout of the season, with a total of 11 cars competing. The lead switched between Cobus van der Walt and Mark Collier for most of the year, until gearbox problems for Mark and computer problems for Cobus allowed Matthew Wood come from behind to take the title. The overall winner for the season, with a regular haul of points at every round, was Bruce Richards for the second year in a row. While it is encouraging to see the variety of makes and models of cars joining the Invitation class, Group 1 numbers have been gradually dwindling over the past couple of years. Time for a recruiting drive!!!! The Committee would like to congratulate everyone for the close, and on the whole, incident free, racing despite some less than ideal weather at some of the meetings. We also thank Computerforce for its support of the Series. Keith Jones Series Co-ordinator Photo credits to Street Style Photography.

She cannot walk as she has cerebral palsy, a condition which affects her walking, fatigue levels and her ability to do everyday things. When she found out there was a surgery with the potential to change her life She was absolutely over the moon. She imagined living this whole new life, one with energy, more confidence, improved speech and most important a preventative measure to ending up in a wheel chair. She could also be a teacher without a cane! Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is a procedure that will take place in St Louis, Missouri. The challenge she now faces is raising the funds to get there. She requires over $100,000NZD, as it is not currently supported by ACC or the NZ government.
