2 World FIM MotoGP / Le Mans Grand Prix de France Record crowds for the Grand Prix de France! More than 88,000 spectators is the figure given by the organiser following the French Moto Grand Prix held on 14 and 15 May on the Bugatti track in Le Mans. These record crowds testify to the public s ever greater interest in this sport. There are many reasons for this success but a sunny sky, many attractions and a quality show seem to be an explanation. Present once more at the event, Motul was one of its official partners for the sixteenth consecutive year. More than 520 guests were welcomed during the two days in the welcome centre, a reception building ideally located between the paddock and the Dunlop chicane and privatised for the occasion by Motul. Apart from high visibility along the track, within the precincts of the circuit and in the paddock, the Motul motor-home was also present in the track village to welcome the public and present a photo display, also to be seen on the Motul Facebook account: france. The only reservation concerns the results of the three riders who wore Motul s colours as they simply had a podium-less weekend. Alvaro Bautista came 12 th while the Tech3 riders both suffered falls. 3 World FIA GT1 / Sachsenring Hohenadel - Piccini / Team HEXIS AMR / Aston Martin DB9 Team HEXIS AMR continues its success HEXIS AMR suffered in Portimao (cf Motul Sport News No.18), but it picked up within just a week and took with brio its second world win of the season in Sachsenring. Qualified behind the first row, Stef Dusseldorp and Clivio Piccione s Aston Martin DB9 no. 3 seemed to be off to achieving the same success as in Abu Dhabi, but that was before being pushed into the gravel trap in the first turn. It was finally the team s other car, driven by Christian Hohenadel and Andrea Piccini, which took victory after an amazing performance, from last row of the qualification to first step of the podium! This new win allows the Aston Martin no. 4 crew to take control of the World FIA GT1 Championship and also, and above all, allows team HEXIS AMR to bring to 17 points its lead in the team standings. After their triumph in Portimao, the Nissans came home this time at the foot of the podium with an honourable fourth place of the duo Hughes Bernoldi (Team Sumo Power). The three other representatives of the Japanese brand finished, for their part, fifth (Brabham / Campbell-Walter, Team Sumo Power), seventh (Westbrook / Dumbreck, Team JR Motorsport) and ninth (Lucas Luhr / Michael Krumm, Team JR Motorsport). 4 Lap of America Team «Axis of Over steer» / BMW M Coupé The Axis of Oversteer BMW does exceedingly well! The One Lap of America rally took place at the beginning of May in the USA. This 3700 mile long (5950 kms) endurance rally reserved for sports cars and crossing the country in various stages (circuit races, dragster tracks, wet ground driving centres), is a kind of civilised Cannonball. Motul was the technical partner here of the Axis of Oversteer BMW M Coupe. After a big effort to be present on the starting line (last minute change of engine), the win in the SSGT1-Small category (10 th on the starting line) was a perfect reward to conclude this adventure which saw the valiant BMW evenly matched with Corvette Z06s, Porsche GT3RS and Vipers! The car (fitted with its original 330 hp engine) and driver, Eric Brum, should in no way be ashamed of the 256 km/h recorded during the speed test on the Daytona Speedway. The 2012 date of the rally has already been booked down. The car will then be prepared and fitted with 600 hp in order, why not, to go for the overall victory! 5 FIM MX World Championship / Glen Helen Clément Desalle / Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 / RM-Z450 A perfect weekend for Clément Desalle! All the World Motocross Championship contenders turned up last weekend at Glen Helen (California) for the US Grand Prix. On one of the season s most difficult tracks (very long, extremely physical and marked by several highly impressive jumps), Clément Desalle, the young rider of team Suzuki Rockstar for which Motul is a technical partner kept a firm grip on his performance both mentally and physically. Despite variable weather conditions, he managed to win both the Saturday qualification and the two main races on Sunday. Cherry on the cake, he will be on the starting line of the next race in Brazil in a fortnight with the championship leader s red plate! A less impressive weekend however for his team mate Steve Ramon after a bad fall, and ditto for local man Sean Lipanovich (also supported by Motul) who was making his comeback to racing here after a knee injury. Mention should also be made of the friendly visit by Steve Ramon, Clément Desalle and Eric Desalle (Team Manager) to Motul USA, the day after the race! watch a video of the day, on P. 6 Intercontinental Rally Challenge / Corsica Toshi Arai out to win the IRC! Toshi Arai / Subaru WRX STI After several years of good and loyal services in WRC (Production category) with the support of STI and Motul, Toshi Arai has set himself a new challenge by entering the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) at the wheel of his Subaru WRX STI. After the Corsica Tour last weekend, where moreover he took a fine 13 th in the overall standings, Toshi Arai will be on the starting line of the following four rallies counting towards the IRC Championship this season: No. 6: from 14 to 16 July / Açores Rally No. 9: from 9 to 11 September / Hungary Rally No. 11: from 14 to 16 October / Scotland Rally No.12: from 3 to 5 November / Cyprus Rally For some of these events he will be accompanied by his compatriot Fumio Nitahara. Polish Motorcycle Road Racing Championship / Poznan Brothers Kondratowicz in action everywhere Mariusz Kondratowicz / Team Kondratowicz / BMW S1000RR Supported technically by Motul Poland, brothers Mariusz and Martin Kondratowicz (Team Kondratowicz) participated on 7 and 8 May in the first round of the Polish Motorcycle Racing Championship. On their BMW S1000RRs, Martin and Mariusz appeared on the list of the BMW S1000RR Cup participants and also on that of the National Superstock 1000 Championship. Despite a very busy schedule they sometimes had less than an hour s break between two races Martin managed to take a fine 3rd place in race 1 of the BMW S1000RR Cup. For his part, Mariusz proved to be a serious contender for the title of 2011 Polish Motorcycle Race Champion by taking the third step of the podium on Saturday and repeating this result on Sunday.
