2 THE VERY FIRST The very first showing of the 2017 CBA Africa Concours d Elegance TV programme will be for competitors and officials at the Premiere which will be held in the Panafric Hotel on Wednesday March 7 th at 6:00p.m. If you would like to avoid heavy traffic, you are welcome to arrive at the hotel early. Alfa Romeo Owners Club committee members and event officials will be present from 5:00pm to receive entries for this year s Concours. They will also have a small stock of DVDs of the TV Programme for sale. As the function is a major social event the dress code is Business Attire. LUCK MAY BE WITH YOU On March 7 th you may have the luck to win 20,000 shillings if you have entered for the Concours before, or on that day. The Premiere and the launch of the regulations for the 2018 event will feature a draw for registered competitors for three prizes of 20,000 shillings each. The regulations are available on the event website ( ) and printed copies will be distributed at the Premiere on March 7 th. Meanwhile to enable you to prepare your entry a list of classes and an entry form are enclosed with this bulletin. 2

3 THE REGULATIONS The main provisions of the regulations remain unchanged. Recognising the harsh economic situation which we are all facing it has been decided to avoid increasing the entry fees. Once again entry is 3500 shillings for one vehicle. Competitors entering more than one vehicle will pay a fee of 3000 shillings for each additional entry. ELIGIBILITY Any normal roadworthy car, SUV, 4x4, pick-up, or utility vehicle up to two tonnes made in 2003, or earlier and any motorcycle made in 2015, or earlier is eligible to compete, but buggies and dirt track motorcycles are excluded. Mini bikes (motorcycles with wheels with diameters of 13 inches, or less) are excluded from the CBA Africa Concours d Elegance. They are not eligible for the motorcycle classes which are numbered 13 to 20 in the regulations. THE MOTORCYCLE JUDGING RING As the Motorcycle Judging Ring is located near the racehorse stables the Jockey Club of Kenya has insisted that no abnormal or excessive revving of motorcycle engines is allowed during the Concours d Elegance. THE PRIZES The winner of each of the 12 car and eight motorcycle classes will receive a trophy and a cash voucher. Second and third places will be rewarded by cash vouchers. 3

4 In addition there will be trophies and prizes for meritorious entries and competitors from outside Kenya. The top car and motorcycle newcomers will receive the Peter Hughes Memorial trophies and cash vouchers. ADDITIONAL AWARDS There will also be prizes for the highest placed car and motorcycle teams and, competitors with the best costumes. Competitors wearing costumes are eligible for the Victor Ludorum award. The competitor with the best combined score for the Concours d Elegance and costume category will receive the prestigious Victor Ludorum Award. ELEGANCE AT THE CONCOURS The entrants of the most elegant car and motorcycle will receive grand awards. The judging is based entirely on the appearance and visual impact of the machines and the condition and standard of preparation is not considered. The elegance awards are separate from the main event and have no bearing whatsoever on the overall, or class results. DUSTLESS BLASTING From time to time we come across news on services which might be of interest to Concours competitors. One of these is a Dustless Blasting process provided by Quentin Mitchell who is well known in motor sport circles as a rally driver and garage owners. 4
