Home Matches in CAPS All Times Central MSU HEADS TO THE ROAD TO FACE NO. 17 GEORGIA, NO. 11 TENNESSEE Mississippi State (5-8-1, SEC) heads back on the road this weekend, as they look to get back on track after a homestand that saw them go MSU travels to Athens, Ga. to face No. 17 Georgia on Friday, October 19 at 6 p.m. (CT). The Bulldogs will then head to Knoxville, Tenn. and face the 11th-ranked Lady Vols, Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m. (CT). Mississippi State enters the 2007 season returning 17 letterwinners and ten starters off of last year s squad. QUICK NOTES Neil Macdonald enters his fourth season as Mississippi State head coach. He owns a (.333) record in his two seasons. This will be the tenth meetings against both Georgia and Tennessee. Both Georgia and Tennessee lead their respective series' with State, This is the seventh year that MSU has finished its non-conference record.500 or better. The last year it happened was 2004, when MState finished had a non-conference record. Senior Treena Ferguson is the Bulldogs top returning scorer off of last year s squad, tallying 14 points on seven goals. Georgia is led by forward Carrie Patterson. The sophomore is tied for third in the conference with 17 points, having scored seven goals and assisting on three others. Freshman midfielder Caroline Simpson is second on the team with 14 points (5 G, 2 A) and freshman forward Marrah Falle is third with 11 points (5 G, 1 A). UGA is led defensively by goalkeeper Michelle Betos. The sophomore is with 60 saves and five shutouts. She also leads the conference with a 0.64 goals against average. Georgia leads the all-time series, , including the last two meetings. Last year, UGA defeated Mississippi State, 3-2 in Starkville. Already this year, the Sarnia, Ontario, Canada native recorded a point in five consecutive games, the second longest streak in MSU history. With 99 career shots, Ferguson needs 24 more to move into a tie for fourth place with Jessi Moore. Currently with 14 goals, the senior needs one more to move into a tie for sixth with Kristina McCutchen. Finally, with 31 career points, Ferguson needs six more to tie Shannon Walsh and Kristina McCutchen for fifth all-time. MULTIPLE GOAL GAMES Total Treena Ferguson HOLLAND RECORDS FIRST SHUT OUT Sophomore goalkeeper Taryn Holland recorded her first career shutout on September 21, a 1-0 victory over North Florida. It was also State's first shutout since October 30, 2005, when the Bulldogs blanked Mississippi Valley State, 1-0. Holland made four saves in the effort. MTSU ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Two Bulldogs were named to the MTSU Tournament All-Tournament Team. Senior forward Treena Ferguson and sophomore midfielder Katelyn Graben earned the honors. Ferguson led the squad with five points, scoring twice and assisting on another. Graben added four points, with one goal and two assists. THREE DAWGS EARN ALL-TOURNEY HONORS Three Bulldogs were named to the Samford Barber's Invitational All-Tournament Team. Senior forward Treena Ferguson, junior defender Bethany Frazier and sophomore midfielder Katelyn Graben took home the honors. Ferguson led the squad with five points, scoring twice, including the game-winner against Georgia Southern, and assisting on another. Graben added three points; the gamewinner versus Kennesaw State, as well as the game-winning assist against Georgia Southern. Frazier added two assists, including one game-winner. FRAZIER AMONG NCAA ASSIST LEADERS Junior defender Bethany Frazier is among the SEC and NCAA assist leaders. The Madison, Miss. native has assisted on six goals this year, tied for second most in the conference. Her average of 0.60 is also tied for 24th in the nation.
