October 2 (honorable mention) SPREADING THE WEALTH The Seminoles have had a lot of success this season offensively as FSU has scored 27 goals through the first 12 games of the season. What makes it difficult for opponents to stop, however, is that those 27 goals have been scored by 13 different players so far this season. The 13 different goal scorers already ranks in a tie for eighth in program history and exceeds the 11 goal scorers from the entire 2017 season. There are four players that have previously scored collegiate goals that have not yet scored in Gloriana Villalobos, Gabby Carle, Macayla Edwards and Taylor Hallmon. INDIVIDUAL GOAL SCORERS PER SEASON ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK freshmen Yujie Zhao was outstanding in the midfield for the Seminoles in matches against No. 7 USC and No. 2 UCLA, which earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on September 4. The Shanghai, China native facilitated the FSU offense and defense that held the Trojans to just six shots, and four in regulation, in the scoreless draw on Friday. On Sunday, Zhao was involved in three of the four FSU goals as the Noles domintated the Bruins with a 4-1 win. Zhao assisted on the first goal of the game on a header by Anna Patten and later found Kristen McFarland to make it 3-1 early in the second half. Zhao closed out the scoring in the game with a blast from 25 yards in the 89th minute. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 11 after recording a pair of shutouts against Florida (1-0) and South Alabama (2-0). She recorded a total of five saves in the two wins. FRESH PRODUCE freshmen have done a great job at transitioning to the next level as the newcomers have scored eight of FSU s 27 goals this season and have combined to make 49 starts. Yujie Zhao ranks second on the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists, while Kristina Lynch is tied for the fourth-leading goal scorer with two. Jaelin Howell and Kirsten Pavlisko have each scored one goal apiece, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger has helped post nine clean sheets in the first 12 matches of the season. COMING OFF THE BENCH For many players that come to, they are not used to coming off the bench, as they have often been one of the best players on their teams growing up. With 24 players that includes a mix of talent from all over the world, it can be difficult to strike into the starting XI, but for those that may not be out there for the opening whistle, they have still been able to stay focused and execute when they have entered the game as nine of s 27 goals, and four of its 24 assists, have been scored by nonstarters, including two goals each against Troy, at Wisconsin and versus Middle Tennessee. 5 MULTI-POINT GAMES Freshman Kristina Lynch found the back of the net on two occasions on August 19 in a 5-0 win over Troy for her first collegiate goal and first multi-goal game. It is the second year in a row that a freshman has recorded a multi-goal game. Redshirt sophomore Malia Berkely aided on two of the three goals on August 26 in FSU s 3-0 win over Middle Tennessee. She started the play for the game s first goal by Jaelin Howell in the eighth minute with a deep run down the right side, while her corner kick in the 63rd minute found Dallas Dorosy in the middle of the box for a perfect header. Yujie Zhao helped the Seminoles record a dominant 4-1 win over No. 2 UCLA on September 2 by tallying two assists and scoring a goal of her own. Deyna Castellanos recorded the seventh multi-goal match of her career on September 20 against Virginia Tech, putting two in the back of the net in FSU s 3-0 win over the Hokies. Castellanos and Kaycie Tillman each posted a goal and an assist in FSU s 4-0 win on the road at Notre Dame on September 27. LOCK DOWN DEFENSE The Seminoles have been outstanding on the defensive end this season, allowing just four goals through the first 12 matches, including one on a penalty kick, but what is also impressive is how few chances the opposing teams have had. has outshot its opponents in 11 of 12 games on the year, and has been the first team to record a shot in 10 of those matches as well.
