It was the tenth largest crowd in Spry history and the second-biggest to see a Demon Deacon nonconference men s soccer match in the history of the program. It was the first time in program history the Deacons lost a regular season match in August. WFU is now all-time in the eighth month of the year. The Bulls avenged a 5-0 loss the last time the two met in the 2008 NCAA s, when Wake sent them packing on the way to a third straight College Cup appearance. The all-time series with USF is now 2-2. It was only the third time the Deacs have been shutout in an opener. Wake Forest is now all-time against the Pac-10. With the result, The Deacs were shutout for the fourth straight time dating back to the last game of The current dry spell is the longest for the team since 1993 and is only the second time in program history for the Deacs to open with three straight shutouts (1987). The win extended was Wake s seventhstraight against Clemson and also moved their unbeaten streak against the Tigers to 11 going back to The Deacs had been shutout in four consecutive games for only the second time in program history dating back to November 9, 2010 before Ibikunle found the back of the net.
