Rolling Since its one-point, double-overtime setback at then- No. 4 North Carolina back on Feb. 17, the Wildcats have played like a team on a mission. They have won 13-straight games 10 against ranked teams and have outscored their opponents over that stretch, an average score of 16.5 to 5.5. Cats Among NCAA Leaders To no one s surprise, the Wildcats are among the NCAA statistical leaders in several categories as of the latest NCAA stats released April 22. NU leads the nation in scoring margin (+10.0) and scoring defense (6.0) and are third with 16.0 goals per game. Individually, goalkeeper Morgan Lathrop leads in goals-against average (5.84) and save percentage (.593) while junior defender Christy Finch is fifth with 2.6 caused turnovers per game. Hannah Nielsen is fourth with 5.31 points and fifth with 2.85 assists per game. Hilary Bowen is 13th in points (4.54) and 15th in assists (1.85). Kristen Kjellman rounds out the leaders, ranking 19th with 4.15 points, 23rd in draws (2.85) and 27th with 2.85 goals. Last Time Out: NU 15, Rutgers 4 No. 1 cruised to its 13th win in a row with a 15-4 win over No. 18 Rutgers at a warm, then very chilly Lakeside Field. Kristen Kjellman, Hilary Bowen and Hannah Nielsen each scored three goals for the Wildcats. In the second half, the temperature literally dropped degrees in a matter of seconds, but the Wildcats stayed hot as they picked up their 28th-straight win at home. The Wildcats got off to bit of a slow start. But with the scored tied at 1-1 four minutes into the game, s attacked kicked it into overdrive, scoring 11 consecutive goals extending into the second half. Bowen and Nielsen each scored their three goals over the decisive run which was capped off by two-straight from Josephs to make it Rutgers did not score its second goal until the 23:22 mark of the second half on a goal by Nina Frankoski. owned the time of possession once again, outshooting the Scarlet Knights 33-20, including 19-8 in the first half. Morgan Lathrop made seven saves in goal, two of which came in span of :03 seconds as she denied two-straight shots by Rutgers from point-blank range in the second half. Abby Bangser played the final 13 minutes, making two saves. Also notching goals for the Wildcats were Katrina Dowd (2), Meredith Frank and Kristin McCandlish. Bowen also added two assists for a game-high five points. Junior defender Christy Finch, s unsung hero this season on the backline, caused six turnovers and picked up nine ground balls.

4 2007 Lacrosse Back-to-Back NCAA Champions Multiple Threats The Wildcats are one of the nation s top scoring teams, due mainly to their multiple threats on attack. has five players with 31 or more goals, led by Kristen Kjellman s 40. Hilary Bowen (38) and Meredith Frank (36) are right behind Kjellman while Hannah Nielsen comes in fourth with 35. Aly Josephs rounds out the top scorers with 31. Since they were held to single digits in the opener at UNC, the Wildcat attack has exploded, averaging 16.5 goals over their 13-game win streak. NORTHWESTERN IN THE NCAA RANKS Nielsen On Record Breaking Pace Sophomore Hannah Nielsen is on pace for a recordbreaking season. Through 14 games, the Australia native has 38 assists, an average of 2.7 per game. At her current pace, she is on pace to shatter the NU single-season record for assists which is 54, set by current assistant coach Lindsey Munday in Seniors Set Win Record With the win over California on April 9, the 2007 seniors (Kjellman, Josephs, Finocchiaro, Elliott, Boege, Whitman and Lovett) became the winningest class in s history with 69 wins and counting. They won 15 games in 2004, 21 in 2005, 20 last season and 13 so far in Last year s class graduated with 64 wins. Early and Often The Wildcats have made a living jumping out to big leads this season. Through 14 games NU has outscored the opposition in the first half of games. They led 13-0 at the half at Vanderbilt, 12-4 at Notre Dame, 10-1 vs. UMass, 7-0 at Boston University, 13-3 vs. UConn and 10-1 vs. Rutgers. Finch Named WomensLAX.com Player of the Week April 9 Few would have predicted a 12-goal victory for the Wildcats over Duke on April 7, but perhaps most impressive was s defensive effort. Christy Finch led a defense that held Duke to their lowest offensive output since 2005, and it was only the fourth time in program history that the Blue Devils have been outmatched by 12 goals its worst loss since Finch went into the game ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers. She added five more to that statistic on Saturday, along with three ground balls, as the Wildcat defense allowed a potent Duke offense only 13 shots in the game and only one second-half goal. The junior defender has become known for her ability to strip an attacker with the ball in a crowd-pleasing fashion. 20-Point Plateau With 22 points in the win over California, it marked the 10th time since returning to varsity status in 2002 and the second time in three games that the Wildcats have scored 20 or more points under head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. NCAA Attendance Record and UMass set an NCAA regular-season attendance record with 3,075 spectators at the inaugural Friends of Jaclyn College Lacrosse Challenge at Yorktown High School in Yorktown, N.Y. back on March 23. The event raised just under $40,000 for brain tumor awareness. Kjellman ALC Player of the Week April 2 Kristen Kjellman was honored April 2 by the ALC, picking up player of the week honors in recognition of her outstanding performance over the weekend in wins over No. 8 Syracuse and No. 19 UConn. Kjellman further solidified herself in the NU record books against Syracuse as her three points made her NU's all-time points leader, breaking the old mark of 289 set back in She totaled nine points (6g, 3a) over the weekend, with two goals and one assist Friday and four goals and two dishes on Sunday against UConn. Kjellman Garners Weekly Honor Feb. 26 Kristen Kjellman was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week by the conference office for the week of February 26. Kjellman recorded eight points on a season-high six goals and two assists in the win over No. 5 Notre Dame. Kjellman keyed a 6-1 scoring run late in the first half to help the Wildcats to a 12-4 halftime lead scoring three goals in that span. Wildcats, Kjellman Garner Preseason ALC, All-America Honors In a vote of the league s five head coaches, NU, the two-time defending national champions, has been picked to win its fourth ALC title in a row. Kristen Kjellman, the two-time ALC Player of the Year, also has been selected as the preseason Player of the Year. Kjellman is joined on the team by Aly Josephs, Lindsay Finocchiaro, and Meredith Frank. All four student-athletes also were named preseason All-Americans by insidelacrosse.com; Kjellman, Josephs and Finocchiaro were placed on the first-team while Frank was a third-team designee. Finocchiaro was on the All-Conference team in 2006,

5 while Frank was the ALC Rookie of the Year last year and was named to the All-ALC second-team along with Josephs. More Fun Stuff... is 54-2 over the past two-plus seasons. Last season became the first team in school history to win back-to-back NCAA team titles. In 2005, just its fourth year back as a varsity team, NU became the first Wildcat squad to win an NCAA team title since They also became the first team outside of the Eastern time zone to win an NCAA lacrosse title, male or female, at any level. In 2006, shattered school records for goals (333), assists (165) and points (498) in a season and also set the record for goals per game average (15.8). The 498 points was an NCAA record and fell just short of breaking the all-time goals per game average record of With 72 goals last season, Kjellman was just the second Wildcat in program history to score 70 or more goals in a season and the first in the modern era. She also is just the second Wildcat in program history to record at least 50 goals three-straight years. She is the first to accomplish that feat since Kathleen Kochmansky did it from Kelly Amonte Hiller announced the hiring of former Wildcat All-American Lindsey Munday to her coaching staff last September. Munday was a standout midfielder for the Wildcats from , claiming first-team IWLCA All-America honors each of the past two years. She is first on s all-time list with 128 career assists, second with 268 career points and fourth with 140 goals. In 2005 she set single-season marks for points (107) and assists (54). She went out as part of the winningest senior class in school history (64 wins). She orchestrated an offense that led the nation with 15.8 goals per game last season and helped the Wildcats set school records for goals (333), assists (165) and points (498) in a season Lacrosse Back-to-Back NCAA Champions

7 2007 Lacrosse Back-to-Back NCAA Champions Back in July 2000, Kelly Amonte Hiller was given the task of putting the women s lacrosse program back on the national landscape after a decadelong hiatus. The job officially began with the Wildcats first varsity season in the spring of 2002, and the progress in five short years has been nothing short of stunning. How stunning? Try back-to-back national titles for starters. After the Wildcats made history in 2005, they repeated in 2006 to become the first team in school history to win consecutive NCAA titles. The Wildcats entered last season, undoubtedly, with a target on their backs. But Amonte Hiller s squad was up to the task, going 20-1, winning their thirdstraight ALC crown and second NCAA title in the process. Kristen Kjellman took home the Tewaaraton Trophy as the nation s top player becoming the first player to win the award from a non-east Coast school. Want more? The Wildcats shattered several school records with 333 goals, 165 assists, 498 points and a 15.8 goals-per-game average that led the nation. And to top it off, Amonte Hiller s 2006 seniors went out as the winningest class in program history with 64 wins over the past four years. Amonte Hiller picked up her third-straight ALC Coach of the Year honor in the process while Kjellman took home Player of the Year and Meredith Frank Rookie of the Year. She had five players receive All-America status, the most of any school in Division I. After the magical 2005 season, her original recruits went out as seniors exactly the way they wanted to as NCAA national champions. Arguably the most amazing story in women s lacrosse history, the Wildcats became the first team outside the Eastern Time Zone to earn a No. 1 ranking in the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll in late March, and a little more than two months later they justified that ranking in the NCAA Championship by defeating Mount St. Mary s, Princeton, Dartmouth and Virginia en route to the first NCAA lacrosse title at any level, male or female, by a team outside the Eastern Time Zone. In the end, finished 21-0 overall and was the only undefeated team in NCAA Division I in As a further sign of their dominance, the Cats led the nation in scoring offense, scoring defense, scoring margin and draw controls per game. As a result, Amonte Hiller was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. In American Lacrosse Conference play, NU not only went 6-0 in rolling to its first outright title, but the Wildcats also set the record for conference goals in a season (98) while shattering the conference mark for fewest goals allowed (28). At the end of the ALC season, was honored with the Player of the Year (Kristen Kjellman) and the Goalie of the Year (Ashley Gersuk), and not surprisingly Amonte Hiller was Kelly Amonte Hiller Head Coach Sixth Season 2005 National Coach of the Year named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. The 2005 campaign was a perfect complement to a program that made a quantum leap from its second year to its third year to the point that following the 2004 season Amonte Hiller was named National Coach of the Year by both Inside Lacrosse and womenslacrosse.com, as well as Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by her peers at the IWLCA. The recognition was well-deserved. The women s lacrosse team went 15-3 in 2004 (including a then-school-record 13-game winning streak), ranked as high as sixth in the IWLCA national coaches poll, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In addition to its success nationally, also made a huge step in the ALC. Picked to finish fifth in a preseason poll of the conference coaches, the Wildcats instead went 5-1, with the only loss coming in the regular-season finale to Vanderbilt (10-9 in overtime) which forced the two teams to share the conference crown. NU led the ALC in scoring offense and scoring defense, and at the end of the season Kjellman was named ALC Rookie of the Year and joined by five teammates on the All-ALC teams. For the team s collective success, Amonte Hiller was named the ALC Coach of the Year. In 2000, Amonte Hiller was ranked 21st by Sports Illustrated on its list of Massachusetts Greatest Sports Figures of the 20th Century. Recently before the 2007 season, Amonte Hiller and her husband, Scott, were inducted into the New England Lacrosse Hall of Fame in Boston. In the four years before her arrival at, Amonte Hiller coached at the collegiate level. During the 1997 and 1998 seasons, she served as the assistant women s lacrosse coach at Brown. In 1999, Amonte Hiller served in a similar capacity at the University of Massachusetts. In 2000, again as an assistant, she helped guide Boston University to its first Top- 10 ranking and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Amonte Hiller has three siblings, including Tony who is well-known as a top player in the National Hockey League; he also played the silver medal-winning United States team at the 2002 Olympic Games. Amonte Hiller s husband, Scott, holds a law degree from Suffolk (Mass.); a lacrosse standout in his own right, was named co-president of the defending Major League Lacrosse champion Baltimore Bayhawks in January 2005 after serving as head coach of the Boston Cannons of MLL the four seasons prior. This past November, the Hillers welcomed newborn daughter, Harlee, to the family. They reside in Evanston. Three of those goals came off the stick of Kjellman, two from Josephs and one from Casey Donohoe. Hannah Nielsen and Frank each had two assists in the final 30 minutes. Meredith Frank, Aly Josephs and Hilary Bowen all recorded three goals to pace the Wildcats who scored 15 unanswered goals. In a joint effort with both schools and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, an estimated $38,500 was raised to help support the foundation and Brain Tumor Awareness. Murphy, s biggest and most inspirational fan, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a childhood brain cancer, at the age of 10. UMass jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kathleen Typadis netted an unassisted goal less than three minutes into the game. It was all Wildcats from that point on. 11 2007 Lacrosse Back-to-Back NCAA Champions GAME 7 March 30, 2007 Evanston, Ill. #1 NU 10, #8 Syracuse 7 Top-ranked defeated No. 8 Syracuse 10-7 at the Thomas Athletic Complex in Evanston for its sixthstraight victory. With two goals and one assist, senior Kristen Kjellman set a record with 290 career points, breaking the old mark of 289 set by Kate Oleykowski in Senior Aly Josephs led the Cats with a hat-trick. Meredith Frank had two goals along with Kjellman while Hilary Bowen, Hannah Nielsen and Ali Jacobs each had one. It was billed as a battle of the nation s top two scoring teams, with both squads averaging over 15 goals per game. Instead, both teams displayed tough, defensive pressure as NU leading the nation in scoring defense coming in held Syracuse to its lowest offensive output of the season. Both teams struggled most notably in the early going as the score was tied at just 3-3 with five minutes left in the opening period. Needing a spark, turned to its All-American, Kjellman, who recorded two unassisted goals in the final two minutes the second of which broke the points record to grab a 5-3 lead at halftime. In the second half it was Josephs turn as she kept the momentum going with three-straight goals to open the half as the Wildcats built what was a comfortable 8-3 lead with 21:57 left. But the Orange didn t go away quietly as they scored three-straight goals of their own and quickly cut 's lead to minutes later. Desperately needing a goal to seize back momentum, Nielsen found a cutting Frank who netted her second goal of the game with 7:57 left. Bowen later found Nielsen at the 4:10 mark for her only goal to round out the scoring for and put the game essentially out of reach. NU jumped out to a 13-3 halftime lead and was paced by Meredith Frank s five goals. Hilary Bowen and Kristen Kjellman each had four., now winners of seven-straight, improves to 7-1 with the win while UConn drops to 5-4. The 22 goals by the Cats were the most since April 3, 2005 when defeated, ironically, UConn 22-6 in Evanston. After a sub-par 10-goal performance in the win over Syracuse on Friday, NU played like the explosive team we ve become accustomed to as they lit up the scoreboard. They have outscored opponents over the course of its seven-game win streak. Westwood, Mass., natives Kjellman and Frank scored the first two goals of the game before UConn made it 2-1 with a goal by Kim McGinty just over eight minutes into the game. then went on a demoralizing 8-0 run over the next 11 minutes as they opened a 10-1 lead with more than 10 minutes left in the half. Leading 13-3 at the break, UConn scored the first goal of the second half to cut the deficit to nine before NU scored the next six goals as it opened a 19-4 advantage. NU never let UConn threaten, winning the draw controls 19-9 and outshooting the Huskies Kjellman (4g, 2a), Bowen (4g, 2a), Nielsen (2g, 4a) and Frank (5g, 1a) all had six points to pace the Wildcats. Danielle Spencer added two goals while Katrina Dowd, Kristen Boege, Ali Jacobs, Lindsay North and Casey Donohoe all had one goal. A total of 11 different Wildcats recorded at least one point in goal or assist fashion as Mary Kate Casey added an assist late in the game. Sophomore Meredith Frank, last year s ALC Rookie of the Year, had four goals for the Wildcats. Duke came into the game averaging more than 15 goals per game. Instead, the Wildcat defense held the Blue Devils to a season-low five goals and handed them their worst defeat (12 points) since their inaugural season in s defense, which leads the nation in fewest goals allowed, has been playing lights out this season, holding some of the nation s top attacks well below their average. This day was no different as Duke managed just one second-half goal and never threatened in the final 30 minutes. Junior defender Christy Finch, second in the NCAA in caused turnovers coming in, caused five Duke turnovers while the Cats forced 20 in all. Keeper Morgan Lathrop was her stellar self, making seven saves. Duke drew first blood in the opening minute of the game as Caroline Cryer netted the first goal :38 seconds into the game. finally responded six minutes later with two goals, one by Josephs and followed later with a freeposition goal by Hilary Bowen to take a 2-1 lead. Duke would then tie the game right back up with a goal by Michelle Menser with 19:50 left in the half. From that point, everything went right for the Wildcats and turned sour for Duke. The Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to end the half, keyed by two goals each from Josephs and Frank, to take a 9-4 lead at halftime. And just like Duke in the first half, struck right off the bat in the second with an unassisted goal by Bowen :51 seconds in before finding Casey Donohoe from behind the goal just over a minute later to make it Duke s lone goal of the half came off the stick of Cryer with 24:29 left. But never let up and kept its foot on the gas, scoring the last six goals of the game three coming from Josephs.
