Please see evaluation form for specifics regarding evaluation of players at tryouts. Players will be selected based on the following criteria. 1. Performance at tryouts 2. Coaches existing knowledge of players based on playing, coaching, observation 3. Information on players from other sources (coaches of club teams, adult competitive players, competitors, etc) Performance at Tryouts 50% of evaluation will be dependant on Physical Fitness and Specific Skill 50% of the evaluation will be dependant on Communication and Teamwork, Attitude and Commitment, Perseverance, AND SPIRIT OF THE GAME! Players and Alternates To breakdown the Physical Fitness and Specific Skill evaluation, below is a list of player roles and the corresponding attributes required Handlers 3-4 Primary Handlers Who score high on... - Can complete higher difficulty throws - Move the disc within 5 stalls - Strong dump cutting (gets open quickly and effectively/ with tight coverage) - Top 40% percentile fitness testing results - * 1-2 Must possess Strong Defensive qualities and abilities.
2 5-6 Secondary Handlers Who score high on... - Move the disc within 5 stalls - Strong Dump Cutting - Top 40% percentile fitness testing results - Ability to make space on the field, strong dump and swing cutting and throwing. - * 3-4 Must possess Strong Defensive qualities and abilities. - Holds position (fights for space, doesn't chase, play touchable) Cutters Primary Cutters Who score high on... - Can complete higher difficulty throws - Is able to read the disc and consistently catches. - Is able to make catches with defensive pressure. - Is able to get open downfield with tight coverage - Top 20% percentile fitness testing results - Quick transition - From D to O, immediately strike or put the disc in play - From O to D, quickly gain defensive positioning. - * 6-8 Must possess Strong Defensive qualities and abilities. 6-7 Secondary Cutters Who score high on... - Is able to read the disc and consistently catches. - Is able to get open downfield with tight coverage. - Top 50% percentile fitness testing results - Is able to make space on the field, strong breakside and swing cutting - Quick transition - From D to O, immediately strike or put the disc in play - From O to D, quickly gain defensive positioning. - * 5-7 Must possess Strong Defensive qualities and abilities.
3 U20 Team Canada Women s Tryout Evaluation Physical Training Results of fitness testing in top 50% percentile Effects of training are obvious at tryouts Sport Specific Skills Throwing consistency (completes open side/ dump passes with low turnover percentage) Can complete higher difficulty throws (IO, OI, hucks, pulls) Is comfortable and able to throw through a hardmark Moves the disc within 5 stalls Is able to read the disc and consistently catches the disc (low, high, lay-outs) Is able to make catches with defensive pressure Has strong dump cutting (gets open quickly and effectively/ with tight coverage) Is able to make space on the field, strong breakside and swing cutting. Is able to get open downfield with tight coverage Is able to hold defensive position ( Fights for space, doesn't chase, plays within touching distance of mark) Has a strong mark (Holds the force, is active and gets the mark on quickly) Transitions QUICKLY from defense to offense and offense to defense Communication Skills and Teamwork Responds to and/or gives constructive feedback Contributes to and is supportive of their peers Communicates effectively to team mates on the field and side line Acts in a respectful and considerate manner Accepts various roles and is eager to try something new Makes payments and fills out necessary forms in a timely fashion. Attitude and Commitment Displays and self-manages professionalism (comes to tryouts; early, prepared with nutritious foods, proper equipment, etc.) Looks for and acts on new ideas and opportunities Displays "Spirit of the Game" at tryouts; respects her opponents, knowledgeable of the rules, conducts herself in a positive and calm manner when problems arise. 4 Is self-motivated Perseverance During tryouts makes numerous attempts to complete difficult Embraces the athletic challenge offered to them Responds positively to adversity Comments: U20 Team Canada Women's Commitment & Fees The week of March 7th, 2016 coaches will offer players a spot on Team Canada. Upon accepting their spot players will be committing to the following attendance, training, player conduct and estimated fees. Commitment Team Schedule Training Camp #1 Vancouver, BC June 3 Flowerbowl Vancouver, BC June 4 - June 5 Training Camp # 2 Montreal, QC June 30 - July 1 Jazz-Fest Montreal, QC July 2 - July 3 Exhibition game (TBD) Wroclaw, Poland World Ultimate Junior Championship Wroclaw, Poland July 31-Aug 6 Players are expected to attend all training camps and tournaments listed in the above schedule. Please discuss with coaches at tryouts if a player is unable to attend one or more of the team events.
5 Training Within the first week of the team being formed a training document will be provided. Each week the athlete will be expected to complete; - 2 track workouts - 1 circuit workout - 2 disc workouts The specific training can be and are recommended to be done after completing either a track workout or a circuit workout. This means each athlete is asked to commit to training 2 hrs of training 3x per week. The training document can be adjusted if a player is involved in training with other ultimate teams and/or other competitive sports. Player Conduct Players will be asked to sign Ultimate Canada's Player Code of Conduct. Aside from the code of conduct, coaches will expect athletes to continuously display qualities of communication, teamwork, attitude, commitment, perseverance as outlined in the player evaluation. The player evaluation will be ongoing. Throughout the season, players will also be asked to complete goal setting, online team activities and posts, wfdf rules quizzes, anti-doping and team-building assignments. Participation in these assignments is mandatory. Financial commitment Players will be asked to sign Ultimate Canada s Financial Policy. Details regarding team fees and budget will be provided to selected players. Estimated fees are as follow: Team Fee regular player $1,350 Team Fee - alternates $600
