3 2001 NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Championship West Regional Spokane Arena, Washington State University, Host, March 24 & 26, Credentials request. Media desiring credentials to cover tournament games in the Spokane Arena must send a written request for credentials on company letterhead via mail or fax to Jason Krump, Assistant Sports Information Director, Washington State University, PO Box , Pullman, WA , phone: , fax: Media covering a specific team playing in the Spokane Arena should request credentials and lodging through the participating institution s sports information director. 2. Media headquarters hotel. Westcoast Ridpath Hotel, W. 515 Sprague, Spokane, WA, 99201, phone: or , fax: Directions to the hotel from the airport: East on 1-90 to Spokane. Take Exit 281 north (Newport/Colville exit). Follow Division north to Sprague Ave. (the street immediately after the railroad bridge). Turn left on Sprague. The Ridpath is about five blocks west on the left hand side of the road. Approximate travel time: 15 minutes. Directions to the Spokane Arena from the Ridpath: Go north on Washington. Cross the Spokane River. West Coast Grand Hotel will be on the right. Go through the light and take the next left (Cataldo). The Spokane Arena will be in front. Approximate travel time: 10 minutes. An allotment of rooms has been reserved for the media at a rate of $89 for a single or double and $99 for a triple or quad. Please identify yourself as NCAA Media when making your reservations in order to confirm this rate. Members of the media covering a specific team should request rooms through the participating institution's sports information director.

4 All rooms must be used for a minimum of two nights, the night of open practice and the night of the first competition at the site. 3. Credential pickup. Working credentials will not be mailed. Individuals must display photo identification in order to receive credentials. Credentials will be issued individually at the Marshalling Area located at the media entrance at the west end of the Spokane Arena according to the following schedule: Day Times Distribution Site Friday, March 23 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Spokane Arena (Marshalling Area) Saturday, March 24 5 p.m. Spokane Arena (Marshalling Area) Sunday, March 25 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Spokane Arena (Marshalling Area) Monday, March 26 5 p.m. Spokane Arena (Marshalling Area) 4. Hotel hospitality room. A hospitality room will be available for the media. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to midnight. Refreshments will be available. 5. Telephones. There will be 25 telephones (credit card, toll-free and operator-assisted calls only) located in the media workroom at the Spokane Arena An additional five phones for local access only will also be located in the media workroom. 6. Ordering courtside telephones. Media desiring to order telephones to be installed in the media work room or at courtside should contact the Verizon/NCAA premium contact center at phone: 888/ , fax: 888/ NCAA policy prohibits live courtside radio or television reports, except for authorized broadcasts. 7. Media shuttle. The media shuttle will operate from March 23-March 26. On game nights the shuttle will begin departing from the hotel to the arena at 5 p.m. The shuttle will continue to operate up to 15 minutes after tip-off of the first game. Upon completion of the final game, the shuttle will operate back to the hotel until approximately one hour after the final game of the evening. Anyone that is still in need of transportation back to the hotel may contact Jason Krump or Rod Commons. The media shuttle will depart from the Ridpath and will run approximately every 30 minutes. The shuttle will continue to operate until all media have departed. Shuttle schedules will be posted in the headquarters hotel and in the working newsroom at the arena. 8. Media parking. Media may park at the service yard area located at the west end of the arena. Media may request a parking pass by contacting Jason Krump or Rod Commons. 9. Satellite uplinks/mobile television trucks parking. Trucks may park at the service yard area located at the west end of the arena. There will be no charge for parking. Power will be supplied at a charge of $150 per day. For further information contact Andy Leitheiser at the Spokane Arena at (509) Media buffet. A media buffet will be available at the west end meeting rooms at the concourse level of the arena. Hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. In addition,

5 a media luncheon will take place from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 23. Media members must show credentials for admittance into buffet and the luncheon. 11. Facsimiles. Two fax machines will be available for use in the media workroom area. Sign-up sheets will be located by the fax machines. Contact Jason Krump or Rod Commons if a problem occurs. 12. Postgame interview policies. Following the cooling-off period, the coaches and designated student-athletes will be brought to the interview room. The period begins when the head coach enrters the locker room and will be five minutes for the winning team and 15 minutes for the losing team. A coach may shorten the cooling-off period but may not extend it. The locker room shall be open to the media for 30 minutes after the cooling-off period ends, providing media representatives are present the entire time. Student-athletes who do not play in the game may depart earlier. The winning coach and players shall be scheduled in the interview room before the losing coach and players, except following the regional championship game when the losing coach and players will open the interview session, followed by the winning coach and players. The cooling-off period for the losing team after the regional game will be 10 minutes. Each locker room will be open for 30 minutes following the cooling-off period, provided that media is present the entire time. Student-athletes who do not play in the game may depart earlier. 13. Radio policies. The university or college station of each competing institution, or the station designated by that institution as its official station, shall be guaranteed broadcast space. Applications from other stations will be referred to the media coordinator and space will be made available as the facilities permit. No exclusive rights shall be granted, except in those instances when a competing institution shall request such rights for a station or network which contracted for exclusive coverage of the institution's regular-season games. Such exclusive rights then shall be restricted to the markets where exclusivity existed during the regular season. All originating stations must pay rights fees in advance of the broadcast. For each tournament session, a minimum fee of $100 shall be assessed. Stations joining a network shall be assessed a minimum fee of $50 per session. Facilities are not to be reserved until a signed agreement and check for the amount of the broadcast fee(s) are received by the media coordinator. 14. Mini-camera policies. Non-originating television stations, network or cable systems shall receive videotape and audio of tournament games, international sound, crowd/team color activities and all formal news conferences from the video and audio distribution facilities provided by the NCAA at the arena. Camera persons representing these outlets will not be permitted to photograph game action and will not have courtside access up to 30 minutes before the first game in a session. The court shall remain off limits to all videographers until ESPN has discontinued its coverage from the site. On the open practice day, these representatives may videotape practice from the end zones or from behind the last row of media seating. A station/network may not broadcast live reports and/or live programming from the site of the tournament competition (e.g., arena proper, hallways, interview, working media areas or locker rooms) on practice or game days. An approved telecaster may utilize a maximum of three

6 minutes of footage on a sports news broadcast. Television entities may not air highlights until the ESPN window for that competition has been completed. The graphic Courtesy ESPN must accompany all highlights. 15. Print photography policies. Photographers working the floor level are restricted to the photographers box at each end of the playing court. At no time may photographers work from directly behind the official table or team benches. No strobe lights or cameras shall be installed over the playing court without the special permission from the media coordinator. Still photographers shall not utilize a flash attachment on a camera at any courtside location. No tripods may be placed on or beside the playing floor. Washington State University and the Spokane Arena will also play host to the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball 1st & 2nd Rounds. -WSU and the arena also played host to the 1997 NCAA Volleyball Final Four of Stanford, Penn State, Long Beach State and Florida. Stanford captured the national title defeating Penn State in a five-game final. The 10,792 that attended the final game was the second largest to attend a NCAA volleyball title game at the time. In addition, the two-day attendance figure of 21,086 was just 30 short of the Final Four attendance record. - Prior to the West Regional, there have been six women s basketball games to be played at the Arena. The first game took place Nov. 30, 1996 when Washington State defeated Gonzaga The second through fifth games took place Dec. 8-9 of last year when WSU hosted the Cougar Shootout with Idaho, Toledo and eventual champion Portland taking part. The sixth contest occurred Jan. 2 of this year when Gonzaga defeated Colgate The Spokane Arena is the home for the Western Hockey League s Spokane Chiefs. In 1998, the arena, along with the Chiefs, hosted the Memorial Cup. The Memorial Cup is the championship of the Canadian Hockey League and featured teams from the WHL, Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major junior Hockey League.
