2 2 News and Notes Streaking Preview The No. 2 seed Stetson Hatters will host the No. 7 seed Lipscomb Lady Bisons Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3 and WSBB radio. The All-Time Series vs. Lipscomb - 25th Meeting Stetson leads the all-time series 17-7over UNF. The Hatters have won the last nine head-to-head meetings, including a season sweep earlier this season. Stetson and Lipscomb have never met in the postseason. Sophomore Brianti Saunders averages over 20 points per game vs. Lipscomb. With a Win Today... The athletic teams are called Hatters, reflecting the university s association with John B. Stetson, maker of the well-known Stetson hats. It all began in 1883 when Henry DeLand founded the DeLand Academy. Three years later, after a disastrous freeze affecting the citrus industry left DeLand in financial distress, Stetson, who had a winter home in DeLand, became interested in the school. At DeLand s request, Stetson was made chairman of the Board of Trustees in 1889 and the university was renamed in his honor. Over the past four seasons Bria has turned the Hatters into a formidable force in the Atlantic Sun. She has guided the Hatters to two conference titles, two NCAA Tournament appearances, two WNIT bids, and now five consecutive 20+ win seasons. In fact, Stetson is just one of two schools in the state of Florida to post as many as 116 victories since the start of the season. In and for the third year in a row, the Hatters set a school-record for most victories in a single-season with 27. Stetson also won a school-record 16 conference games and won a schoolrecord 16 consecutive contests during the regular season. The Hatters also earned their second-ever bid to the WNIT and the program s first-ever NCAA postseason victory, a win at Miami on Mar. 20. Stetson had three players named First Team All-Conference, including A-Sun Freshman of the Year Amber Porter. The season was one for the history books as the Hatters set numerous team records and captured their second A-Sun title in the past three seasons. Bria helped lead the Hatters to a schoolrecord 24 wins overall, a 12-1 record at home, a school-record 14 wins in A-Sun play, and winning streaks of 11 straight overall and 16 in a row at home. In the A-Sun Championship game, Stetson rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat top-seeded and previously undefeated FGCU 70-64, and then earned their highest-ever NCAA Tournament seed (14) and an appearance in the Columbus, Ohio regional against UCLA. In , the Hatters won a school-record 23 games and advanced to the postseason for the second year in a row, participating in the WNIT for the first time in school history. Three players earned All-Atlantic Sun honors including A-Sun Player of the Year and All-Tournament Team selection Victoria McGowan, who led the nation with three triple-doubles. Also honored were Second Team All-Alantic Sun forward Sasha Sims and A-Sun All-Freshman Team forward Cherisse Burris. Bria s Hatters won 20 games for the first time in 10 seasons, captured their third Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history and first time since Stetson s turnaround under Bria from 6-24 to (+12.5 games) was the second largest improvement in NCAA Division I women s basketball. Honors that came to members of the team included A-Sun Tournament MVP (Victoria McGowan), A-Sun All-Tournament Team (Tierra Brown, Sasha Sims), Second Team All-Atlantic Sun (McGowan), A-Sun All-Freshman Team (Sims), A-Sun Player of the Week (Natasha Graboski) and A-Sun Newcomer of the Week (McGowan twice, Sims). Graboski went on to sign a professional contract with Alexandria of Romania s Division 1 League in the summer of In Bria led the Hatters to their seventh consecutive A-Sun tournament appearance. In her first season at Stetson, Bria made an immediate impact on the recruiting trail as her incoming class was ranked by Michael T. White s noted scouting service All-Star Girls Report as the best in the Atlantic Sun and in the top third of all NCAA Division I teams. Bria has coached women s basketball for 20 years with 14 seasons of Division I head coaching experience to her credit at UCF, Ohio University and Stetson. In addition to coaching, she has extensive classroom experience at the university level and is committed to developing young women both athletically and academically. From , Bria was the head coach at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She also led UCF for three seasons from Her final Golden Knights team in was the TAAC (now Atlantic Sun) regular season and tournament champions and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Her first head coaching position came at Division II Texas Woman s University in Denton, Texas for three seasons from A standout performer for the Charleston Golden Eagles, the Class of 1990 graduate was inducted into her alma mater s Athletic Hall of Fame in She scored 1,146 points in her career, averaging 10.3 points per game and was a 75.3 percent free throw shooter over her career.

6 6 All-Conference Awards Four members of the Stetson women s basketball team were honored by the Atlantic Sun Conference with postseason awards on Wednesday, including sophomore Amber Porter (Woodbridge, Va.) who was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year. Senior Jama Sharp (Mooresville, Ind.), senior Myeisha Hall (West Palm Beach, Fla.), and Porter were all named First Team All-Conference. Sarah Sagerer (Vocklabruck, Austria) was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. Porter garnered her second straight first team allconference selection and her first Defensive Player of the Year honor. Entering postseason play, the 6-foot-3 center leads the conference and ranks 26th in the NCAA with an average of 2.6 blocks per game. She also ranks among the conference leaders in scoring (13.2), rebounding (7.4), and field goal percentage (.475). She has scored in double figures 18 times this season and has four games with 20+ points. Porter is just four blocks shy of 200 in her career and ranks eighth in A-Sun history in blocked shots. She maintains the sixth-highest blocks average among all active players in the NCAA (3.21). Sharp also earned her second straight first team all-conference honor in. She was a twotime A-Sun Player of the Week and was just one of 30 national Senior CLASS Award candidates. Sharp has started all 28 games at point guard for the Hatters and has scored in double figures 24 times. She leads the team with a 14.1 scoring average, and she ranked third in the league with a 15.3 scoring average in conference games. Defensively, She leads the league and ranks eighth in the NCAA in steals (3.3). In addition, she ranks second in the A-Sun in assists (4.1), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (.382). For her career, Sharp ranks 14th all-time in school history in points (1228) and third in career 3-pointers (163). She has played in all 130 games without missing any. Hall earned her first A-Sun postseason honor after averaging 13.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She has started all 28 games, and she scored in double figures 22 times. In conference games, Hall averaged 14.6 points per game and scored in double figures in 13 of the team s 14 contests. Always a threat from long range, Hall has hit 60 3-pointers this year, tied for the eighth-highest single-season total in school history. Her 2.1 trifectas per game rank second in the league. She also ranks fourth in the conference in minutes played (33.9). Sagerer earned all-freshmen team honors after averaging 5.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game so far this season. She earned Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week honors after recording a 23-point, 18-rebound double-double vs. Lipscomb in her first career start. She also had a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double at USC Upstate. Stetson s 4-0 start to the season tied a school record in the modern era. Stetson s 63-point and 61-point wins over Webber International and Warner represent the fourth and fifth largest margins of victory in school history. The 27 points allowed vs. Webber International represent the third-lowest single-game total by a Hatter opponent in school history. Jama Sharp scored her 1000th career point on Jan. 3 at Valparaiso Stetson won 11 regular season non-conference games for the first time in school history.
