3 DAN MAJERLE Inducted into the Central Michigan Hall of Fame in No. 44 jersey was retired by Central Michigan in One of the premier basketball players in Central Michigan history, Majerle was a 6-6 product of Traverse City High. A first team All-Mid-American Conference selection for three seasons. Named to the 1988 U.S. Olympic team, earning a bronze medal. Drafted 14th in the first round in 1988 by the Phoenix Suns. Played eight seasons with Phoenix ( , ), one in Cleveland ( ) and five in Miami ( ). One of the top three-point shooters in NBA history. Majerle is CMU s second all-time scorer with 2,055 points and ninth in career field goal percentage at.536. His 759 points in is a record and he still holds three of the top eight season scoring averages. Majerle ranked second in career steals with 171 and fourth in career blocks with 95. (CMUChippewas.com). The Chippewas will also appear on BTN Plus when they meet Northwestern on Wednesday, Dec. 17 in Evanston, Ill. BIGS MAKING QUICK IMPRESSION CMU s cadre of young big men have made an immediate impact in the line-up, both on the offensive and defensive ends. In the opener against Alma, freshmen Luke Meyer and DaRohn Scott and redshirt freshman Milos Cabarkapa combined for 29 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. Versus Youngstown State, Meyer nearly notched his first double-double, totaling 13 points and 9 rebounds. He also was instrumental in limiting YSU s leading scorer and rebounder well below his season average. Early on, Meyer, who has started each of the first four games, is averaging 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. He is shooting.650 from the field and.778 from the free throw line. BLOCK PARTY A year ago, Central Michigan finished dead last in the Mid-American Conference in blocked shots with a total of 36 in 31 games (1.2 avg.). Forward Blake Hibbitts led the team with 11. Through four games this season, the Chippewas already have 14 blocks (3.5 average). DaRohn Scott has a team-high five blocks while Luke Meyer has four. YOUTHFUL EXPERIENCE Even though the Central Michigan roster features just one senior, the team is loaded with experience. All five starters from the season return, including Chris Fowler and John Simons, both of whom have started all 66 games of their collegiate careers. Furthering the point, the top seven leaders in terms of minutes played are also back in the Maroon and Gold, a group that comprises 94 percent of the team s total court time last season. From an offensive perspective, the storyline persists, as 96 percent of the team s points return for the campaign, including its top seven scorers. NEW LOOK FRONT COURT The Central Michigan front court will experience substantial infusion of size for the season. The Chippewas line-up is bolstered by the addition of freshmen forwards Luke Meyer (6-11) and DaRohn Scott (6-81/2) and center Milos Cabarkapa (7-0), who redshirted the season. Meyer, from Addison, Mich., was a two-time Associated Press First Team All-State honoree while Scott, a native of Grand Rapids, was a 2014 McDonald s All-American nominee. With the Serbian national Cabarkapa on the Facebook.com/CMUMensBball roster, Central Michigan is one of just three MAC schools to feature a 7-footer. TEAM CAPTAINS NAMED Head coach Keno Davis has named juniors Chris Fowler and Rayshawn Simmons co-captains for the season. Fowler, a MAC Preseason All-West Division selection, will be serving as a team captain for the third consecutive season. Simmons played in all 31 games a year ago in his first season at CMU after transferring from Moberly Area Community College, averaging 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists. FOWLER RECEIVES PRESEASON HONOR Central Michigan junior guard Chris Fowler was honored on the Mid-American Conference Preseason All-West Division Team. Fowler was the only junior to be recognized on either the MAC East or West teams. All other honorees are seniors or graduate students. A Second Team NABC All-District and Third Team All- MAC selection last season, Fowler was the conference s third-leading scorer (17.4), tied for second in assists (5.3) and assist/turnover ratio (1.9) and third in steals (1.9). RECORD WATCH Junior guard Chris Fowler is primed to make a further imprint on the Central Michigan record book during the season. Already the only Chippewa to ever average more than five assists per game in back-to-back seasons, Fowler, after just 66 career games, is ranked sixth in program history in assists with 372 and will best the all-time record (489) by the end of the season at his current pace. Fowler is also poised to break onto the career steals and points record list this year. His 60 steals last season were the most by a Chippewa since and he led the team and ranked third in the MAC with a 17.4 points per game scoring average. Junior forward Blake Hibbitts could also improve on some statistical milestones this season. After 66 career games, he ranks 10th in both career three-pointers made (138) and attempted (388). HOME EARLY AND OFTEN As was the case in , Central Michigan will spend much of the early portion of its schedule at home, providing fans ample opportunity to see the Chippewas in action before the holidays and the beginning of the MAC schedule. Including the exhibition game versus Saginaw Valley State on November 9, CMU will play eight games in McGuirk Arena before the month of December and 18 in

6 KENO DAVIS Head Coach Third Season The Davis File College... Iowa, 1995 Family... Wife, Krista; Daughter, Mara; Son, Brady Coaching History Southern Indiana Assistant Coach SE Missouri State Assistant Coach Drake Assistant Coach Drake Head Coach Providence Head Coach 2012-pres... Central Michigan Head Coach Since arriving in Mount Pleasant two years ago, head coach Keno Davis and his staff have worked diligently to develop the Central Michigan basketball program and establish a solid foundation of success. While reshaping the roster and installing his system, Davis Chippewas have made strides both on and off the court. The season was marked by several notable individual accomplishments. Chris Fowler moved into seventh place in the CMU record book with 339 career assists and was among the MAC leaders in points (3rd, 17.4), assists (T2nd, 5.3), steals (3rd, 1.9), and assist/turnover ratio (2nd, 1.9), earning Second Team NABC All-District honors. John Simons led the Chippewas in rebounding for the second consecutive year while Blake Hibbitts is now listed 10th all-time in program history in three-pointers made (133) and attempted (368). Braylon Rayson had an impressive rookie campaign, ranking seventh on the CMU freshman single season scoring list with 333 points. Davis stress on work ethic has translated into achievement in the classroom. In the 2014 spring semester, 10 student-athletes achieved a 3.00 grade point average or better. Of the players returning to the squad for the season, 10 possess at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, including six with a 3.40 or higher. The combined GPA of the 14 returning student-athletes is Also, Central Michigan was the only conference school to place two student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC team with Chris Fowler and John Simons earning the honor. In 2013, half of the Chippewas 12 scholarship players had at least a 3.5 grade point average and eight of the 12 had at least a 3.0. The team combined for a 3.15 GPA, its best semester in a decade and was one of only 19 NCAA Division I schools to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Davis and his assistants have also made inroads in another key area - camps. The attendance number for the 2014 team camp doubled from previous years and CMU hosted approximately 1,000 youngsters during its four camps throughout the summer months. In his first season as head coach at Central Michigan, Keno Davis led the 2013 Chippewas to the program s most non-conference wins since 2002 and to seven non-conference victories, the most by a CMU team in the last 25 years. Fowler set the program record for a freshman with 176 assists, which also ranks third all-time in single season history, securing him a spot on the All-MAC Freshman team. Fellow guard Kyle Randall led the MAC in scoring in 2013, averaging 18.7 points per game against conference opponents, en route to earning Second Team All-MAC and NABC All-District recognition. Though only at the head of the CMU program for just two years, Davis positive and uplifting message has clearly struck an immediate chord with Chippewa fans. His Twitter account boasts 22,000-plus followers, more than the other coaches from all MAC schools combined, ranking Davis 13th among all Division I head coaches and first among all mid-major programs. DAVIS BACKGROUND IS STEEPED IN TRADITION AND SUCCESS Former consensus national coach of the year Keno Davis was introduced by Central Michigan University Athletics Director Dave Heeke as the Chippewas 20th head men s basketball coach April 3, Davis brought six years of Division I head coaching experience and was named the 2008 coach of the year by six national organizations, including the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and The Sporting News. Through one season at Drake and three at Providence he compiled a (.574) record and made two postseason appearances. In his first season as a head coach, , Davis led the Drake Bulldogs to a 28-5 mark, which included a 15-3 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. His team captured its first MVC regular season title since 1971 and its first ever MVC Tournament title. Drake became the first league school to win both the regular season and tournament titles since 2002, and the Bulldogs made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since That season, Drake was nationally ranked for a school-record eight consecutive weeks. The Bulldogs finished 14th in the Associated Press Poll and 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Davis had all this success in his first season after inheriting a team that was in 2007 and lost four starters to graduation. He led a squad that was picked to finish ninth in the MVC to the program s first top-25 ranking since Moving to Providence after just one season at Drake, Davis quickly got to work as he guided the Friars to a mark in Although the Friars were picked 12th in the 2009 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, the squad posted a 10-8 record in league play and finished tied for sixth. Leading the team to 19 victories, he established a program record for the most wins by a first-year head coach. During the regular season, he earned two victories over top-15 teams, including an win over No. 1 Pittsburgh. Davis also led the team to its first BIG EAST Tournament victory since 2003 and into the postseason as the Friars earned an at-large bid to the NIT. In Davis team was one of the top offensive squads in the country, scoring 82.4 points per game and ranking third in the nation in that category. The season was highlighted by senior MarShon Brooks earning multiple All-America honors before becoming a first round NBA Draft selection. Davis has a proven track record of developing players and preparing them for the next level. In just six years as a head coach, 16 of his players have gone on to play professionally, headlined by Brooks, who was selected by the NBA s Boston Celtics with the 25th overall pick in Prior to being selected as the head coach at Drake, Davis served as an assistant under his father, Dr. Tom Davis, at Drake from He began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant for two years under Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana then took an assistant position under Gary Garner at Southeast Missouri State from Davis was exposed to basketball at a very young age as he watched his father become one of the NCAA s all-time winningest coaches. In 32 seasons as a head coach at Lafayette ( ), Boston College ( ), Stanford ( ), Iowa ( ) and Drake ( ), he registered a mark (.628), which included 18 postseason appearances and win seasons. He also was named the 1987 Associated Press National Coach of the Year. When Keno earned the same honor in 2008, it marked the first time that a father and son duo had captured the national coach of the year honor. The father-son duo has combined for 692 victories and a 60.4 winning percentage that ranks 11th among father-son coaching Facebook.com/MensBBall
