Senior forward John Simons leads the MAC with 34 three-pointers while freshman guard Corey Redman tops the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.619). UP NEXT FOR THE CHIPPEWAS Central Michigan will open Mid-American Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 6 when it hosts in-state rival Eastern Michigan (8-4). Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at McGuirk Arena. CMU has more wins versus Eastern Michigan than any other school in program history (97), including sweeping the Eagles last season, at home and on the road. The Chippewas will continue conference play on Saturday, Jan. 9 when they visit Bowling Green (8-4) for a 2 p.m. game at the Falcons Stroh Center. CMU will look to avenge its lone home loss of the , a overtime setback. THREE-POINT PROWESS After a slow start this season, Central Michigan has once again established itself as one of the nation s top three-point shooting teams with a recent surge. The Chippewas currently rank No. 4 in the nation in threes per game (11.1) and have reached double digits in triples in six straight games, including a season-high and Marriott Center-record 17 on the road at BYU. Chippewas John Simons, Josh Kozinski and Braylon Rayson rank 1-2-3, respectively, in the MAC in threepoint field goals per game and total three-point field goals made. In , CMU shattered the program and MAC records for three-pointers in a season, totaling 322, and ranked No. 3 in the NCAA in triples per game (10.1). At its current pace, CMU will break its own record this season. SIMONS REACHES SCORING MILESTONE In his 99th consecutive career start, senior forward John Simons surpassed the 1,000-point scoring barrier, becoming the 30th player in Central Michigan program history to reach the milestone mark. Totaling eight points versus Milwaukee in the Gulf Coast Showcase finale, Simons moved into 29th place on the CMU scoring list with 1,006 career points, moving past all-time great Ervin Leavy. He since has moved into a tie for 21st place with a total of 1,095 points. Simons averages 10.3 points per game for his career, scoring a career-best 28 points in CMU s home win over Toledo on March 3, 2015, which clinched the Chippewas a MAC West title. Simons also recently moved into the top 10 on CMU s rebounding list, sitting currently at No. 9 with 625. Simons, who currently leads the Chippewas in rebounding, is bidding to become the first player in CMU history to top his team in rebounding for fourstraight seasons. In , the Cadillac, Mich. native ranked No. 1 in the nation in three-point shooting by a forward (.455), CENTRAL MICHIGAN -3- CHIPPEWAS BASKETBALL true shooting percentage (.710) and offensive rating (144.0). SIMMONS RECOGNIZED BY MAC Senior guard Rayshawn Simmons was named the Mid- American Conference West Division Player of the Week on November 16 for his performance in CMU s season opening win over Jacksonville State. Simmons scored a career-high 30 points, making 53 percent (8-of-15) of his field goal attempts overall, and was 12-of-15 (80 percent) from the free throw line. On the court for the entire 40 minutes, he committed just one turnover while notching four rebounds and three assists. The conference honor was the first of Simmons threeyear career as a Chippewa. CMU SELECTED MAC FAVORITES Central Michigan was selected to win the Mid-American Conference West Division and the league tournament in a preseason poll of media who cover the league Two Chippewas, seniors Chris Fowler and John Simons, were named to the five-member West Division Preseason All-MAC team. CMU earned 138 points and all 23 first-place votes in balloting to win the West. Toledo was selected second with 110. Akron, with 132 points and 17 first-place votes, was picked to win the East. The Chippewas, who return all five starters from a team that won the MAC regular-season title a year ago, were selected by 15 voters to win the league tournament Akron, with seven votes, was second. The Chippewas were picked near the bottom in last year s preseason poll then delivered CMU s first regularseason championship since 2003 to earn the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament. CMU was also ranked nationally entering the season, polling at No. 10 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Preseason Poll and also received one vote in the AP Preseason Poll. BACK FOR MORE The Chippewas will bear a strong resemblance to the squad that won 23 games, captured a MAC regular season championship, advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2003 and ranked in the top 15 nationally in eight statistical categories. Central Michigan returns all five starters, its top seven scorers and 10 players overall. Offensively, players that accounted for 94 percent of the CMU offense a year ago and nearly 96 percent of the minutes played are back in the Maroon and Gold. The five returning starters - Chris Fowler, John Simons, Rayshawn Simmons, Braylon Rayson and Luke Meyer - are a reliable and well-acquainted group. Each player was in the starting line-up for all 32 games last season, one of just six teams nationally that could make that claim.

4 MAC STANDINGS/SCHEDULE (as of 12/30) East MAC Overall Akron Ohio Bowling Green Kent State Buffalo Miami (Ohio) West MAC Overall Northern Illinois Ball State Eastern Michigan Toledo Central Michigan Western Michigan Thursday, December 31 Chicago State at Ball State Lourdes at Central Michigan Saturday, January 2 North Florida at Eastern Michigan Jacksonville at Western Michigan South Carolina State at Miami Oakland City at Bowling Green Oberlin College at Kent State Judson at Northern Illinois Lipscomb at Akron GAME 13 >> CENTRAL MICHIGAN v s. LOURDES DYNAMIC DUO Central Michigan will be anchored by two All-MAC players in in Chris Fowler and John Simons. Simons has started every game of his collegiate career, a streak of 106 consecutive. Fowler possessed the same streak entering the season but missed the first seven games due to injury. Last season, Fowler, a first team all-conference and NABC All-District selection, directed the nation s No. 12-ranked offense from his point guard position. He led the MAC and was 12th in the NCAA in assists per game (6.1) and topped the team in scoring for the second consecutive year, averaging 16.2 points per game. Fowler made his mark in the record book in 14-15, becoming the program s all-time assist leader and moving into the top 10 in scoring. Widely considered a frontrunner for MAC Player of the Year honors, Fowler entered his senior season ranked second in total assists, sixth in career assists per game and seventh in assist/turnover ratio among all active NCAA players. A Third Team All-MAC honoree, John Simons had a career year in He led the nation in three-point shooting by a forward (.455), true shooting percentage (.710) and offensive rating (144.0). In the fifth game of the season, Simons became the 30th Chippewa to score 1,000 career points. Simons is bidding to become the first player in program history to lead his team in rebounding for four straight seasons. HOME SWEET HOME Central Michigan and its fans made McGuirk Arena one of the most difficult places in which to play in , building momentum and setting the stage for what could be another historic campaign in The Chippewas set a program record for home wins in a season a year ago, totaling 16, including eight versus MAC opponents. CMU found the confines of McGuirk ideal for its highpowered offense, as it shot 49% overall and 41% from three-point range at home for the season. CMU s win over archrival Western Michigan on February 7 was a sellout, drawing a capacity crowd of 5,350 for the first time since McGuirk Arena was opened in Prior to the sell out against Western Michigan, CMU drew crowds of 4,000-plus fans twice (vs. Eastern Michigan and Ohio) in a season for the first time ever at home. The Chippewas received unprecedented support from its fans last season, experiencing a surge of 1,015 fans per game, the eighth highest increase among midmajor programs. CMU s trend of home success has continued in , as the Chippewas are 6-0 in McGuirk Arena, extending their win stretch to 22 of their last 23 games. RECORDS WATCH Two Chippewas are poised to move up and/or into lofty positions in the Central Michigan record book in Senior Chris Fowler could finish his brilliant career in the top five in scoring and in the top three in steals. Already CMU s career assists leader, Fowler could become the only Chippewa to have all four season assist totals rank in the top 10 and could also move into the top five on the MAC career assists list. He also has two seasons ( , ) ranked highly in free throws attempted and made. In addition to moving onto CMU s all-time scoring list, senior John Simons could advance into the top five on the career rebounds list and improve his position in the top 10 on the career three-pointers attempted and made and three-point percentage rankings. Simons will also take aim at the season three-pointers made record, which he fell 14 shy of tying last season TEAM CAPTAINS Seniors Chris Fowler, Rayshawn Simmons and John Simons will serve as team co-captains for the season. For Fowler, a two-time All-MAC honoree, the honor is a rare and special one, as he will act as a captain for the fourth consecutive season. Simmons, who will wear the captain s C for a second straight year, led the team in assist/turnover ratio (2.17) and ranked second on the team in assists (130) and rebounding (3.7) in Simons, CMU s leading rebounder and three-point shooter a year ago, is a first-time team captain. NON-CON CHALLENGES Central Michigan s non-conference schedule will provide its challenges and steel the Chippewas as they prepare to defend their MAC title. Six of CMU s non-conference opponents have been selected to finish second or higher according to preseason projections. The Chippewas will receive a major test early on, facing Big Sky favorite Weber State in Estero, Fla. in their opening match-up at the Gulf Coast Showcase in late November. The Wildcats, which have been tabbed to place first in the BSC in seven of the last eight years, went overall and 8-10 in league play in but lost just one senior off last year s squad and have four starters returning this season. Texas Southern was selected to win the SWAC after finishing the campaign with a overall record and receiving a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Texas Southern put its name on the national map last season when it defeated No. 25 Michigan State, 71-64, in East Lansing. Son, Brady Coaching History Southern Indiana Assistant Coach SE Missouri State Assistant Coach Drake Assistant Coach Drake Head Coach Providence Head Coach 2012-present... Central Michigan Head Coach In just three years, head coach Keno Davis has reversed Central Michigan s fortunes, transforming the Chippewas into a championship-caliber program, both on and off the court. Since arriving in Mount Pleasant, head coach Keno Davis and his staff have worked diligently to develop the Central Michigan basketball program and establish a solid foundation of success. The fruits of that labor were realized in when the Chippewas engineered the nation s fifth largest turnaround and captured their first Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship since the season. Central Michigan posted 23 wins, a 13-win improvement from the previous year, tying for the second most in program history. Included in that total was a dominating road win over Big Ten foe Northwestern, three victories over MAC preseason favorite Toledo and regular season sweeps of Buffalo, Eastern Michigan and Ohio. After being selected 11th in the MAC preseason poll, the Chippewas proved to be the class of the conference in They won 12 games, claimed the MAC West title outright and served as the No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament. A postseason berth, its first in over a decade, followed as CMU earned a No. 6 seed for the National Invitation Tournament. Spurring Central Michigan s success is its trademark fast-paced, exciting style of play. Dubbed 3MU for the team s prolific shooting ability from beyond the arc, CMU broke the program and MAC records for three-pointers in a season (322) and finished third nationally in three-point field goals per game (10.1). Fans packed McGuirk Arena in record numbers to cheer on the Chippewas in and were rewarded with victories, as CMU shattered the program mark for home wins with 16. Central s win over rival Western Michigan was a sellout and attendance at three other MAC contests surpassed 4,000. CMU s unprecedented success did not go unheralded. Chris Fowler, who broke the program record for assists and moved into the top 10 in all-time scoring, received First Team All-MAC and NABC All-District honors. John Simons, the nation s top three-point shooting forward, earned Third Team All-MAC recognition while long-range sharpshooter Josh Kozinski was named to the conference s all-freshman squad. For orchestrating CMU s historic turnaround, Davis was selected as MAC and NABC District Coach of the Year. In recognition of success achieved on the court and his moral integrity displayed off the court, Davis was also honored with the 2015 Skip Prosser Award. Davis emphasis on work ethic has translated into achievement in the classroom each of the past three years. In the 2015 spring semester, 11 student-athletes attained a 3.0 grade point average or better. Of the players returning to the squad for the season, nine possess at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a conference-high five were honored on the Academic All-MAC team. The team cumulative GPA after the spring semester is This follows in the footsteps of the 2014 spring semester in which 10 student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher and in 2013 when half of the Chippewas 12 scholarship players had at least a 3.5 grade point average and CMU was one of only 19 NCAA Division I schools to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Davis and his assistants have also made inroads in another key area - camps. The attendance number for the 2015 team camp doubled from previous years and CMU hosted approximately 1,000 youngsters during its four camps throughout the summer months. Though only at the head of the CMU program for just three years, Davis positive and uplifting message has clearly struck an immediate chord with Chippewa fans. His Twitter account boasts 22,000-plus followers, ranking Davis in the top 15 among all Division I head coaches and first among all mid-major programs. DAVIS BACKGROUND IS STEEPED IN TRADITION AND SUCCESS Former consensus national coach of the year Keno Davis was introduced by Central Michigan University Athletics Director Dave Heeke as the Chippewas 20th head men s basketball coach on April 3, Davis brought six years of Division I head coaching experience and was named the 2008 coach of the year by six national organizations, including the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and The Sporting News. Through one season at Drake and three at Providence he compiled a (.574) record and made two postseason appearances. In his first season as a head coach, , Davis led the Drake Bulldogs to a 28-5 mark, which included a 15-3 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. His team captured its first MVC regular season title since 1971 and its first ever MVC Tournament title. Drake became the first league school to win both the regular season and tournament titles since 2002, and the Bulldogs made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since That season, Drake was nationally ranked for a school-record eight consecutive weeks. The Bulldogs finished 14th in the Associated Press Poll and 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Davis had all this success in his first season after inheriting a team that was in 2007 and lost four starters to graduation. He led a squad that was picked to finish CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS BASKETBALL

9 ninth in the MVC to the program s first top-25 ranking since Moving to Providence after just one season at Drake, Davis quickly got to work as he guided the Friars to a mark in Although the Friars were picked 12th in the 2009 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, the squad posted a 10-8 record in league play and finished tied for sixth. Leading the team to 19 victories, he established a program record for the most wins by a first-year head coach. During the regular season, he earned two victories over top-15 teams, including an win over No. 1 Pittsburgh. Davis also led the team to its first BIG EAST tournament victory since 2003 and into the postseason as the Friars earned an at-large bid to the NIT. In Davis team was one of the top offensive squads in the country, scoring 82.4 points per game and ranking third in the nation in that category. The season was highlighted by senior MarShon Brooks earning multiple All-America honors before becoming a first round NBA Draft selection. Davis has a proven track record of developing players and preparing them for the next level. In seven years as a head coach, 16 of his players have gone on to play professionally, headlined by Brooks, who was selected by the NBA s Boston Celtics with the 25th overall pick in Prior to being selected as the head coach at Drake, Davis served as an assistant under his father, Dr. Tom Davis, at Drake from He began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant for two years under Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana then took an assistant position under Gary Garner at Southeast Missouri State from Davis was exposed to basketball at a very young age as he watched his father become one of the NCAA s all-time winningest coaches. In 32 seasons as a head coach at Lafayette ( ), Boston College ( ), Stanford ( ), Iowa ( ) and Drake ( ), he registered a mark (.628), which included 18 postseason appearances and win seasons. He also was named the 1987 Associated Press National Coach of the Year. When Keno earned the same honor in 2008, it marked the first time that a father and son duo had captured the national coach of the year honor. The father-son duo has combined for 722 victories and a 60.8 winning percentage. KENO DAVIS ALL-TIME VS.
