Notes on the Series: The Titans lost both games to the Colts last year which would help Indianapolis win the AFC South division because of the head-to-head record both the Titans and Colts finished the 2003 record with an identical 12-4 mark. Relocation Package-When these two teams met in 1970, they were known as the Baltimore Colts and Houston Oilers. However, the Colts moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis in March of 1984 whereas Houston played their first season in Tennessee in TITANS-COLTS NOTES Both head coaches, Jeff Fisher and Tony Dungy enjoyed brief careers in the NFL that led to Super Bowl titles. Fisher saw action in 49 games as a defensive back with the Chicago Bears, who along with Fisher would go on to defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXX. Dungy was also a cornerback and his career lasted three years, two with Pittsburgh and one in San Francisco. He had the privilege to help the Steelers defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 35-31, in Super Bowl XIII. Both of the team s quarterbacks rank in the top two of their respective franchises in wins. The Titans Steve McNair ranks first on the all-time list with 72 wins over the course of his 10 years with the Oilers/Titans organization. His counterpart and fellow MVP from last season, Peyton Manning (62), ranks second on the Colts all-time list behind Hall of Famer John Unitas (118). This week s game features the starting wide receivers from last year s AFC squad at the Pro Bowl in Derrick Mason and Marvin Harrison. Entering this week s game, Mason ranks first in the NFL in receptions with 70, which is seven more than Harrison, who ranks tied for sixth (Eric Moulds) in the league. Since the start of the 2002 season, Harrison s 290 receptions ranks first in the NFL, which is 52 more than Mason, who ranks fifth among receives in receptions during that time frame. The team which has led at halftime in each of the last two games at the RCA Dome has come away with the victory. In 2003, the Colts held a 17-7 halftime lead before going on to win 33-7 at the RCA Dome (9/14). In 2002, the Titans led 20-0 at RCA Dome (11/3) en route to their win over Indy. The Colts tandem of Dwight Freeney (7.0) and Robert Mathis (10.0) rank first among all defensive ends in the NFL with 17 combined sacks. However, the Titans duo of Kevin Carter (5.5) and Randy Starks (4.5) have 10 combined sacks, who rank one-two in the AFC at their respective positions in sacks. They also lead the AFC in sacks among all defensive tackle tandems and are tied for first place in the NFL with Atlanta. RB Edgerrin James of the Indianapolis Colts enters this week s game having played in 76 games, 38 of which he has run for 100 or more yards. This means James has a fifty percent chance of running for 100- yards once he takes the field. In fact, James is one of only two backs who has topped the 100-yard mark more than once against the Titans since the start of the 1996 season. SUPPLEMENTAL QUOTES The Titans media relations staff will provide additional player AND coaches quotes for both their local and out of town media on prior to their team s Wednesday s practice. Contact a representative from the Titans or Colts PR staff for a copy of these quotes.

In fact, Fisher is one of three coaches who has registered at least 55 victories during that time frame. Interestingly, this week s game against Tony Dungy and the Colts marks the two coaches who have the most wins since the start of the 1999 season. Dungy led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in four of the six seasons at the helm. Overall, Dungy has led six of his eight Colts and Bucs teams to the playoffs, twice being a conference finalist. He has produced five double-digit victory totals and joins Don McCafferty and Ted Marchibroda as the only Colts coaches to produce double-digit victory totals and playoff appearances in his first two years with the team. The 2003 season saw the Colts go the entire season without losing consecutive games. He is the only NFL coach who has defeated all 32 teams during his career. Under his guidance, the Colts have owned or shared the division lead in 32 of the 35 weeks of AFC South existence. In the 10 seasons before his arrival in Tampa Bay, the Bucs were with nine double-digit losing seasons. The Bucs went to the playoffs in 1997 with a 10-6 record and matched that performance with an NFC Central divison title in 1999, a year Tampa Bay lost in the NFC Championship Game. 3 TITANS-TEXANS NOTES FROM WEEK 12 These are some notes from the Tennessee Titans setback against the Houston Texans last week. WR Derrick Mason caught 8 passes to give him 70 on the year, the fourth consecutive season he has caught at least 70 passes, something no other Oilers/ Titans receiver has done in franchise history. WR Derrick Mason caught his 5th touchdown of the season and the 35th of his career when he caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from QB Steve McNair in the second quarter, giving Tennessee a 21-3 lead. It was the second consecutive week Mason caught a second quarter touchdown from McNair from four yards. QB Steve McNair threw three touchdowns in the game, his first three touchdown effort since last season against Houston (10/12), when he connected on three scores to Derrick Mason in helping the Titans to win. The three touchdowns increased McNair s season total to eight and his career mark to 140. RB Antowain Smith started his second consecutive game in place of the injured Chris Brown and ran for 90 (team-high) of the teams 134 yards on 21 carries. In the last two games, the former Houston Cougar has run for a combined 186 yards on 45 carries and one touchdown. TE Erron Kinney posted the first two-touchdown game of his career when the former Florida Gator hauled in passes from 12 and 11yards from QB Steve McNair in the first quarter. yard scoring pass from Steve McNair in the first quarter. S Scott McGarrahan recorded the first interception of his seven year career when he picked off David Carr in the first quarter. DT Randy Starks posted the first two-sack game of his career as he brought down Texans signal caller David Carr two times in the second quarter to improve his season total to four-and-a-half sacks. The rookie standout from the University of Maryland also blocked his first field goal of his career when he deflected Kris Brown s 41-yard attempt to close out the first half. LB Keith Bulluck collected his fourth sack of the season when he stopped Houston s QB David Carr in the third quarter. Bulluck total of four sacks is a new career-high, bettering his previous mark of three set last season. Additionally, Bulluck delivered a team high 13 tackles in the game, his sixth double-digit tackle performance on the year. A TITANS VICTORY WOULD Give Jeff Fisher his fourth career victory against the Colts and the TItans second road win against Colts in the last three seasons, having won in 2002 (11/3). Improve the Titans record in the month of November in the Jeff Fisher era to 21-12, including wins in nine of their last 12 November games dating back to the 2002 season. Improve the Titans record against quarterbacks selected first overall or in the first round in the NFL draft to dating back to the start of the 1999 season when the Titans defeated Tim Couch and the Cleveland Browns (9/19). Improve the Titans career record under head coach Jeff Fisher to 98-73, in the regular season and 4-2 overall against the Colts. WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK RB Chris Brown to record fifth 100-yard performance against an opponent from the AFC and second against the Colts having generated 152 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries in Week 2. CB Andre Dyson needs one interception to set a new-career high for picks in a season (5), passing his old mark set in 2003 (4). TE Erron Kinney needs one touchdown reception to tie his career-high for touchdowns in a season set last year when he caught three. More importantly, the Packers were held to five rushing yards in the first half, their lowest output since they only gained 4 yards in the first half against Minnesota (10/21/01). Sack Machine-Tennessee s defense posted 17 combine sacks in their last five games, dating back to their three sack performance against the Vikings (10/24). Welcome Back-DE Kevin Carter tied his career-high for sacks in a game (3) when he stopped Bears QB Craig Krenzel three times (11/14). It tied his previous high when he was a member of the St. Louis Rams (see Titans Sack Machine). WINNING IN DECEMBER Since the start of the 1998 season, the Titans are a half-game behind the Green Bay Packers for having the best record during the month of December, winning 20 of their last 27 games for a winning percentage of.740. Furthermore, the Titans have not had a losing record in the month of December since 1997 when they only won one of their three games under head coach Jeff Fisher. This week, the Titans will look to prevent the Indianapolis Colts from extending their current streak of 11 consecutive games of scoring at least 24 points when they take the first place Colts. In looking at the Titans success last season, the Titans were able to come away with three wins in the five games they took the field. In games against Buffalo and Houston, they trailed in both games before posting victories. Despite trailing by 11 points in the third quarter against the Bills, the Titans behind backup quarterback Billy Volek scored 14 unanswered points to help overtake the Bills (12/14). At Houston, the Titans trailed and were down to their last play on fourth-and-10 when QB Steve McNair found WR Drew Bennett on a 23-yard touchdown to give the Titans a win over the Houston Texans. The Titans hope to match that success against the Colts, who have not lost in the last four games. BEST DECEMBER RECORDS IN NFL SINCE 1998 TEAM RECORD PCT Green Bay Tennessee Tampa Bay St. Louis Baltimore NY Giants Kansas City TITANS DECEMBER VICTORIES SINCE 1998 Year Record Victories Buffalo, Houston, Tampa Bay NY Giants, Indianapolis, New England Jacksonville, Houston Cleveland, Green Bay, Oakland Cincinnati, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Dallas Oakland, Jacksonville, Atlanta Baltimore, Jacksonville The 2004 season has seen the Titans post a road record of 3-3 with wins coming against the Miami Dolphins (17-7; 9/11), Green Bay (48-27; 10/11) and against the Jacksonville Jaguars (18-15) two weeks ago (11/21). One of the most difficult road games of the season will come this week when they face the Indianapolis Colts before a sellout crowd at the RCA Dome. The Colts have scored at least 31 points in their last four games, each of which has resulted in victory over the Detroit Lions (41-9), Chicago Bears (41-10), Houston Texans (49-14) and Minnesota Vikings (31-28). Although the Colts have only lost one home game this season, the Titans are known for being difficult to beat on the road. Despite the fact Tennessee has won only two of their six road games, they still have the best road record in the NFL since the start of the 1995 season. Tennessee is one of only two teams in the NFL who has won more than 40 road games since Ironicaly, both teams won road games last week by three points (Green Bay defeated Houston,16-13). One of those road wins came at the hands of the Colts in 2002, when the Titans scored the first 20 points of the game en route to a win as the team totaled 121 yards on the groujd and the defense collected three sacks of QB Peyton Manning. Since the Jeff Fisher era began in 1995 season, the Titans have gone on to win 44 of 79 road games. In fact, the Titans are just one of three teams in the NFL who has a winning percentage of better of.500 on the road entering this week s games since the start of the 1995 season. ON THE ROAD AGAIN NFL S BEST ROAD RECORD SINCE 1995 Team Record Pct. Tennessee Titans Green Bay Packers Pittsburgh Steelers Philadelphia Eagles New England Patriots Denver Broncos (.494) Miami Dolphins (.487) It also should be noted that under Jeff Fisher, the Titans have been tough to come-from-behind and record a victory when the team has the lead going into the fourth quarter in road games. The Titans led going into the fourth against Miami (14-0) and Green Bay (34-13). In fact, the Titans have an incredible mark of 38-1 in the Fisher era when the team has the lead going into the fourth quarter on road games. When looking at how this record compares with other head coaches in NFL history, it ranks tied with the legendary Vince Lombardi. Names Record.PCT Jeff Fisher Vince Lombardi John Madden JUST WIN BABY One of the top teams in the NFL who has posted the best record in the league since the start of the 1999 season just happens to be the Tennessee Titans. Under the direction of Jeff Fisher, the team hasposted a record of over the course of the last five seasons and trail only the St. Louis Rams, who play the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football this week, and Philadelphia Eagles. 6 TIME OF POSSESSION The Tennessee Titans will have to make the most out of every scoring opportunity when they play the Indianapolis Colts this week. The Colts have both the top ranked offense and top ranked passing offense in the NFL as well as one of the most prolific quintet on the offensive side of the ball in QB Peyton Manning, RB Edgerrin James and receivers Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Brandon Stokely. The fact the Colts are averaging almost 35 points per game (34.5) is one thing but it should be noted the Colts are averaging only 28:56 in terms of time of possession against opposing teams and have a +17 in the turnover ratio. During the Jeff Fisher era, the Titans are known for their ability to control the clock. Their victory over the Jaguars saw their offense hold on to the ball for only 28:28, which shows that the Titans can match the Colts in terms of making the most out of their scoring opportunities without using much of the clock. Tennessee has seen some sucess when it has held the ball for fewer than 30:00 under Jeff Fisher but their road victory over the Colts in 2002 saw the team control the clock for 31:41 in their win. However, five victories since the start of the 2001 season have resulted in the Titans using the clock for less than 30:00, including last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers when the Titans only generated 198 net yards and conrolled the clock for only 24:10 but still came away with a convincing win at Heinz Field. Let s take a look and see how the 28:28 TOP ranks among other victories dating back to the 2001 season. TITANS VICTORIES WITH TIME OF POSSESSION UNDER 30:00 SINCE 2001 TOP Date Team Score 24:10 9/26/03 Pittsburgh :05 10/27/02 Cincinnati :11 12/29/02 Houston :28 11/21/04 Jacksonville :32 11/16/03 Jacksonville :36 12/22/01 Oakland After eleven games, the Titans are ranked fourth in the AFC and in the NFL in time of possession averaging 32:05 every game. Last season, the Titans held on to the ball for 32:52 whereas the year before had Tennessee controlling the clock for 32:47. The Titans finished the 2003 campaign ranked second (Denver, 33:53) in the AFC and tied for second in the NFL (Minnesota). In 2002, the team was tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for having the top time of possession in the NFL, averaging 32:47 per game. The Titans have held on to the ball in four games where the team s averaged time of possession is more than 34:00, controlling the clock against San Diego (37:13), Green Bay (38:00), Cincinnati (36:35) and in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts (34:55), which means the Colts held on to the ball for only 25:05 and still came away with a victory. If the Titans are going to defeat Indianapolis, they must continue their dominance of clock management and score off any turnover the defense can create so that they can hopefully contain the Colts and their high-powered offense. One quick note regarding the game against Green Bay, which ended with Tennessee winning the game before a nationally televised audience on Monday Night Football. The 38:00 is one of the top 10 games this season which a team has held on to the ball. Let s see where the Titans contest against Green Bay where they held on to the ball for 38:00 ranks in the NFL compared to other times in the season. HIGHEST TIME OF POSSESSION / 2004 (NON-OT GAMES) Date Team Opponents TOP 10/24 Arizona Seattle 39:51 10/4 Kansas City Baltimore 39:43 10/17 Green Bay Detroit 39:41 11/21 Pittsburgh Cincinnati 38:56 10/24 Kansas City Atlanta 38:54 10/17 Carolina Philadelphia 38:30 11/21 San Diego Oakland 38:26 9/13 Green Bay Carolina 38:04 10/11 Tennessee Green Bay 38:00 FIRST QUARTER POINT DIFFERENTIAL/FIRST HALF LEADS Since the Titans hired Jeff Fisher as their 15th head coach in 1995, the Oilers/Titans have as been known for getting out to a fast start. In his 158 regular season games, the Titans have led after the first quarter in 78 of those games. Fisher s 49.4 percentage ranks third on the all-time list among NFL s head coaches who have led in games after the first quarter. Name Record PCT Mike Shanahan 172 games/87 1st quarter leads 50.5 Greasy Neal 101 games/50 1st quarter leads 49.5 Jeff Fisher 158 games/78 1st quarter leads 49.4 The Titans only have been defeated six times since November 3rd, 2002 when their defense has prevented opponents from scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. Two of those six setbacks have come at the hands of the Houston Texans, who trailed the Titans 14-3 after the first quarter and at halftime. However, the Texans pulled off the victory when they were able to score 21 unanswered points in the second half to win before more than 70,000 fans at Reliant Stadium. The Titans also lost a heartbreaking game to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, which saw the Colts score only three points in the first quarter and trailed the Titans 7-3. The Titans took a 10-3 lead into the half but Indianapolis tied the game when Reggie Wayne caught a five-yard touchdown from Peyton Manning. After the Titans scored to take the lead 17-10, the Colts scored 21 unanswered points to take the game, Both games which saw the Colts and Texans score unanswered points against the Titans defense. However, the defense enters this week s game ranked 11th in the league and sixth against the pass, which hopes to be the winning formula in order to prevent Indianapolis from matching their success from earlier in the season. It should be noted that the Titans lost only two times last season when opposing teams could not score a touchdown in the first quarter. However, the team is determined to attack the Colts and are prepared for the matchup that lies ahead. As mentioned earlier When the Titans defeated the Colts two years ago at the RCA Dome, they took a commanding 20-0 lead into the half and led 10-0 after the first quarter. If the Titans can match their performance against the Colts from that November 3rd day back in 2002 when the team registered three sacks, then hopefully it can come away with its fifth victory of the season. Let s take a closer look and see how the Titans have fared when opponents have been held to fewer than three points since their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on November 3, Team 1st Quarter Halftime Result (since 11/3/2002) Indianapolis 0 points trailed 20-0 L, Houston 0 points trailed 10-3 L, NY Giants 3 points trailed L,32-29 OT Indianapolis 0 points trailed L, New England 0 points trailed 14-0 L, 24-7 Jacksonville 0 points trailed 14-3 L, Houston 0 points trailed 6-0 L, 13-3 (in 2003) Oakland 3 points trailed L, Indianapolis 3 points led 17-7 W, 33-7 New Orleans 2 points trailed 13-5 L, Pittsburgh 3 points trailed L, Houston 0 points trailed 21-3 L, Carolina 0 points trailed 27-3 L, Jacksonville 0 points trailed L, Miami 0 points trailed 21-0 L, 31-7 Jacksonville 0 points trailed 10-0 L, 10-3 Indianapolis 3 points led W,29-27 Buffalo 0 points led 10-6 L, Houston 0 points led 10-3 L, Tampa Bay 3 points trailed 16-3 L, Miami 0 points trailed 7-0 L, 17-7 Indianapolis 3 points trailed 10-3 W, Jacksonville 0 points trailed 6-0 W, Green Bay 0 points trailed L, Houston 3 points led W, Minnesota 3 points trailed, 17-3 W, 20-3 Cincinnati 3 points trailed 13-3 L, Chicago 0 points tied at 7 W, (ot) Jacksonville 0 points trailed 10-6 L, Houston 3 points trailed W, 31-21

7 GREAT WALL OF NASHVILLE/RUSHING ATTACK In each of the last two road games against Jacksonville and Houston, the Titans rushing attack, behind backup Antowain Smith, has totaled more than 100 yards. In last week s game against the Texans, Smith gained 90 yards on 21 carries as the Titans averaged 5.4 yards per carry in the team s 25 rushing attempts during the course of the game. Tennessee has the NFL s eleventh ranked rushing entering this week s game against their arch rivals from the AFC South, the Indianapolis Colts. When the two teams met earlier in the year, Tennessee, behind the legs of second-year back Chris Brown (152 yards on 26 carries) totaled 153 yards on the ground. Based on the sucess of the rushing attack, it leaves many Titans fans applauding the efforts of the team s offensive line, which has seen veterans Zach Piller miss 10 games because of a torn bicep suffered in the season opener at Miami and two games from Brad Hoppkins, who broke his right hand against the Chicago Bears. Thus far the Titans offensive line has helped the rushing attack total more than 100 yards in eight of their eleven games this season, which is a slight improvement from last season when the team rushed for more than 100 yards in six of the first eleven contests. When Brown was forced to the sidelines against the Jacksonville the Titans makeshift offensive line had blocked so well for the former Colorado Buffalo that he was ranked fifth in the AFC with 872 yards. Despite missing each of the last two games, Smith has been an outstanding replacement, rushing for 95 yards and one touchdown against Jacksonville and 90 yards against the Houston Texans last week. Earlier in the season, the Titans offensive line helped Brown run for 101 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that had not allowed an opposing back to rush for more than 100 yards since Stephen Davis of the Carolina Panthers rushed for 111 yards on 22 carries in the Panthers win (9/7/03). Tackles Fred Miller and Brad Hopkins, center Justin Hartwig and guards Benji Olson and rookie Jacob Bell comprise the unheralded group known as the Great Wall of Nashville (GWON). When Hopkins went down, the Titans inserted veteran Jason Mathews in his place, who also had to come in and start at right guard when Oslon could not take the field against the Texans earlier in the season. One interesting statistic which shows how sucessful the Titans offensive line has done this season is by the total rushing yards Brown had in his first five games (556), which ranked second by an Oilers/Titans back in the first five games since the 16-game schedule, trailing only Hall of Famer Earl Campbell (569) in Brown has three 100-yard games which saw the Colorado Buffalo total 100 yards before halftime, hitting the 100-yard mark against Miami (9/11),104 yards against Indianapolis (9/19) and 103 yards against Green Bay before a nationally televised audience on Monday Night Football (10/11). If Brown can take the field against the Colts and their 18th ranked defense against the run, the offensive line hopes it can match their success from when he topped the century mark earlier in the season against the Colts. If he can t take the field, Smith is more than determined to replace him and keep the success of the rushing attack going and look for his first 100-yard game as a Titan. Speaking of 100-yard games, the Colts defense has allowed only Brown, Fred Taylor of the Jacksonville Jaguars (107 yards on 20 carries; 10/24) and Priest Holmes of the Kansas City Chiefs (143 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns; 10/3) to surpass the century mark on the ground this season. Two other backs, Domanick Davis of the Houston Texans (98 yards on 31 carries; 11/14) and Kevin Jones of the Detroit Lions (99 yards on 12 carries; 11/25) just missed the 100-yard total in setbacks to the Colts this season as well. 100-YARD BACKS AGAINST THE COLTS IN 2004 Name Team Yds/Car/TDs Date Chris Brown Tennessee /19 Fred Taylor Jacksonville /24 Priest Holmes Kansas City /31 Another inteteresting statistic which shows how well the Titans offensive line is doing this season is to compare where the 1,378 yards ranks to the rest of the Oilers/Titans teams during the Jeff Fisher era after 11 games. The yardage total is 312 yards ahead from the 2003 Titans squad which totaled 1,066 rushing yards after their first eleven games. It is also 255 yards more than the 1999 Titans team, which would eventually win the AFC Championship Game and advance to the Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams. MOST NET RUSHING YARDS AFTER TEN GAMES SINCE 1995 YEAR YARDS , , , , , , , , ,085 TITANS SACK MACHINE The Titans defense has seen it s number of sacks improve over the course of the last five games behind the aggressiv play of d-linemen Kevin Carter, rookies Travis LaBoy and Randy Starks and linebacker Keith Bulluck. In last week s game at Houston, Starks led the way and registered two sacks against David Carr. It was his first two sack performance of his young career. Bulluck also posted a milestone when he was credited with his fourth sack of the season, which is one better from his previous career-high set last season. The team has now been credited with 17 combined sacks in their last five games, something the defense hopes to match when they face Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts this week. After eleven games, Manning has been sacked only six times and is one of only three teams in the NFL (Green Bay, Denver) which enters Week 13 having their signal callers sacked fewer than 10 times on the year. Because of his quick release out of the pocket on pass plays, most teams have had problems getting to Manning since he became the team s starter after he was seleced with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft. Despite his precision, the Titans defense has had only one game where they did not record a sack and that came against Green Bay and Brett Favre, who despite not being sacked threw three interceptions that game. The most sacks the team has had this season came against the Chicago Bears when the defense posted five sacks in the game. It bettered their previous high of four sacks which occurred against the Cincinnati Bengals on Halloween in their victory. Three of the five sacks were recorded by Kevin Carter, who became the first Titans defensive player since Carlos Hall to post three or more sacks in a regular season game. Hall accomplished the feat against Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles when the Titans posted a win in the 2002 season opener (9/8). Carter is now one of the league leaders in sacks when it comes to those defensive players who either line up at defensive tackle or nose tackle. It was also his first three sack performance as a Titan and first since he was credited with three sacks against Detroit in 2000 (12/3) as a member of the St. Louis Rams. Although the Colts have lost three games on the season, Manning was sacked only once in losses to New England and Jacksonville and no times in their setback against the Kansas City Chiefs. In their Week 2 game against the Colts, the defense registered one sack against Manning, when both Carter and Carlos Hall joined forces to sack last year s co-mvp. The Titans defense had the NFL s longest consecutive streak with at least one sack snapped at 29 when the defense could not record at least one sack snap at Green Bay (10/11). Tennessee finished the 2003 regular season with 38 sacks, which ranked tied for fourth in the AFC (Buffalo) and tied for ninth (Philadelphia) in the NFL. As a result, it needs 17 more sacks in their last seven games to reach their total from last season. The team hopes it can continue their success this season getting to the quarterback as it ranks fifth in the NFL with a total of 240 sacks since the start of the 1999 season. 8 THE ROOKIES Travis LaBoy was the first of three defensive players taken by the Titans in the 2004 NFL draft. As a senior, he was named the Western Athletic Conferences Defensive Player of the Year after posting 76 stops, a conference-high 13 sacks and 22 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Randy Starks is the youngest player on the Titans roster (20) but is loaded with talent having left the University of Maryland after his junior season where he was named first-team ACC, named All-American honorable mention by Rivals.com and one of the best defensive tackle prospect in the country by The NFL Draft Report. When these two rookies were chosen in this year s draft, many Titans fans had high hopes for them because of the fact the team s most effective pass rusher since the 1999 season, Jevon Kearse, departed for the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason for greener pastures. Since the Packers game, LaBoy and Starks have seen an increase in their playing time as well as their sack total. As mentioned earlier in the Titans defensive section on Page 2, LaBoy and Starks have posted at least one sack in each of the last five games and are among the top of the sack leaders among rookies in the league entering this week s game at Indianapolis. LaBoy s crowning moment of his young career came against the Minnesota Vikings when he sacked Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper two times in the fourth quarter of the Titans loss. The following week saw LaBoy post a half-sack against Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals, helping the Titans to a win. Ironically, the other person who shared the sack with LaBoy was Starks, who also posted five tackles and one quarterback pressure in the win over the Bengals. In fact, he was credited with another sack when the Titans loss to the Chicago Bears when he stopped Craig Krenzel in the backfield in the fourth quarter. What is even more promising for Starks is the fact he had two sacks against David Carr last week to match LaBoy s performance earlier in the season, which improved his season total to four-and-a-half sacks on the year. Entering this week s game against the Indianapolis Colts, Starks ranks second among all NFL rookies in sacks, trailing Jared Allen of the Kansas City Chiefs, who has five sacks on the year. Not far behind Allen and Starks is LaBoy, who has registered three-and-a-half sacks himself. In fact, let s take a look and see where Starks and LaBoy rank among the rest of the rookies in the NFL ROOKIE SACK LEADERS Name Team Sacks Jared Allen KC 5.0 Randy Starks TEN 4.5 Karlos Dansby AZ 4.0 Kendrick Udeze MIN 4.0 Will Smith NO 4.0 Travis LaBoy TEN 3.5 Tommie Harris CHI 3.5 Tommy Kelly OAK 3.0 Shaun Phillips SD 3.0 Gibril Wilson NYG 3.0
