The two-time All-American was inducted into the Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 and led Upstate, then USC Spartanburg, to the 1982 NAIA National Championship. He went on to play professionlly in the NBA and in Europe. Ulysses Hackett is Upstate s all-time leading scorer with 2,688 points in 119 games. His 22.7 ppg scoring average is also tops among all players who have played in the program. He ranks among the all-time leaders in 14 other statistical categories, including an all-time leading 1,026 field goals. 14 USC Upstate Hall of Fame The USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1998 to recognize individuals who have outstanding athletic accomplishments or have made significant contributions to USC Upstate athletics. The men s basketball program has joined with the men s soccer program to establish the most selections to the USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame. There are 10 members of the Hall that have been associated with the men s basketball prgram over the years, including legendary head coach Jerry Waters and Dr. Joe Bowman, who many credit as being the architect of the USC Upstate Atheltics Department.
