Bellarmine will also be competing in Nicoson Hall against the GLIAC schools. Friday will mark the first game of the regular season for each of the four teams. Northwood went 5-25 a season ago, while Saginaw Valley ended the campaign with a record. HISTORICAL DOMINANCE The Greyhounds are 6-0 all-time against the Timberwolves from Northwood, with the last two victories coming in 2012 and The closest game between the teams came during the season in which UIndy outlasted Northwood by a single point. The most recent game between the teams came in November 2013 when UIndy pulled out a nine-point victory in Midland. Reece Cheatham led the way with 24 points and four assists, while Leland Brown had 21 points. Joe Lawson pulled down 11 rebounds in the win. UIndy is 5-1 all-time against Saginaw Valley, with the loss coming in the teams first battle in The Hounds have pulled out the past five wins, but only with an average scoring margin of 6.4. The teams played four consecutive years from , which included a three-point overtime victory in Saginaw in In their last game in 2009, the Greyhounds hit 12 three-pointers. DeWanna Squires paced the Hounds with 15 points, while Ryan Sims had 13. LAST TIME OUT AT INDIANA (EXH.) The UIndy men s basketball team opened its season last Sunday against the Indiana Hoosiers in Assembly Hall. The Hounds held an early lead, but the Division I Hoosiers settled in defensively, leading to a defeat for the visitors. Senior Ajay Lawton paced the Hounds with 13 points on four-of-12 shooting, while also adding a team-high four assists. Devin Dixon led UIndy on the boards with 11 rebounds, while Eric Davidson pulled down five. Tate Hall added 11 points for the Hounds and Dixon contributed 10 to the scoreboard. UIndy had just three second-chance points as Indiana controlled the boards with 16 offensive rebounds and a plus-16 overall. Dixon pulled down two of the team s five boards on the offensive side for the Hounds. UIndy hit 44.4 percent from behind the arc in the second half after shooting two-for-16 in the opening session. Five different Hounds made a three-pointer. Only eight free throws were attempted by the visitors on the afternoon as the team only drew 13 foul calls on Indiana. Dixon and Lawton were the only two players to take a shot from the charity stripe, each ending with four. NICOSON NIGHTS The Greyhounds have a dominating record in Nicoson Hall since the season. In the seven seasons, UIndy has a record, which included a perfect 13-0 during the campaign. Last season, the Greyhounds went 9-3 in Nicoson. HISTORY VS. GLIAC UIndy is 11-5 against teams from the GLIAC dating back to the season. The Greyhounds went just 1-3 last year against the in-region foes. NATIONAL RECOGNITION Despite coming off a season, UIndy has been chosen as the preseason No. 19 team and No. 15 team by the DII Bulletin and Basketball Times, respectively. The Greyhounds are receiving votes in the NABC preseason poll. DIVISIONAL PLAY With the closing of St. Joseph s College this past summer, the GLVC stands at 15 competing universities, forcing a change from the two-division format. For the season, there will be three divisions based on region within the conference: West, Central, and East. The Greyhounds have a tough draw in the East division with Bellarmine, Southern Indiana, Lewis, and Wisconsin-Parkside. Bellarmine has won four midwest regional titles in the past seven years, while Southern Indiana has won 183 games over the past eight seasons. Wisconsin-Parkside has made five straight NCAA tournaments, while Lewis has made the midwest regional in two of the past three seasons. The Greyhound swere picked to finish second in the division.

4 COACHING STAFF Having been UIndy s head coach for nine seasons, Stan Gouard has lifted the Greyhound men s basketball program back to national prominence. That success has included six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from , multiple All-America honors, a No. 1 ranking from his Division II peers ( season) and GLVC Coach of the Year honors. Gouard has now spent 20 years in college basketball. The stint includes four years as a student-athlete at the University of Southern Indiana and John A. Logan College ( ); seven as an assistant coach at Southern Indiana ( ), UIndy ( ) and Indiana State ( ); and nine as a head coach of the Greyhounds (2008-present). A season ago, the Greyhounds finished with a record and 12-6 mark in GLVC play to earn the overall five-seed in the conference tournament. UIndy defeated Missouri- St. Louis, but fell to four-seed Wisconsin-Parkside in the quarterfinal round. Combined with highly-competitive GLVC schedule, the team played three top-14 programs in , which included a win over Gouard s alma mater and No. 12 Southern Indiana. The victory came just two days after the Greyhounds almost took down No. 10 Bellarmine in Nicoson Hall. Overall, UIndy won eight games against GLVC tournament teams. Gouard s team finished 21-8 (14-4 GLVC), marking his fifth consecutive 20- win season. Prior to Gouard s arrival, the only other 20-plus win streak was during the seasons. His final victory of the season - an NCAA Tournament win against 12th-ranked Ashland - gave him 150 for his career, making him the fastest to reach the mark in program history. The squad continued Gouard s string of NCAA appearances, earning a bid for the sixth straight season. UIndy won its opening round game against Ashland, 77-60, before falling in the Midwest Regional semifinal against Ferris State, Gouard mentored unanimous All-GLVC First Team and CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team selection Jordan Loyd during the campaign, seeing Loyd become the 39th member of UIndy s 1,000-point club. During the season, UIndy won its most games in 50 years, finishing with a record of 25-6 and earning a program-first fifth straight NCAA Division II Tournament berth. With help from a season-opening 17-game winning streak, the Greyhounds spent nine weeks in the top 10 of the D-II coaches poll, including a two-week stay at No. 1 - UIndy s first at the top since The Hounds made their biggest splash in the postseason, however, as UIndy defeated Michigan Tech and Lewis on the way to its first-ever NCAA Midwest Regional final. Meanwhile, senior Joe Lawson was named first team all-region, Brennan McElroy was dubbed All-GLVC Second Team and GLVC All-Defensive Team. A year prior, in , UIndy finished 24-5, winning a GLVC East Division title and a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Regional. The Hounds defeated rival Bellarmine in the NCAA first round, and were also ranked in the top 25 for 13 consecutive weeks, culminating in a No. 12 ranking in the final NABC poll. The tandem of Reece Cheatham and Joe Lawson were named to the All-GLVC First Team. The Hounds reached 20 wins for the second year in a row and the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row in The program was ranked for 10 consecutive weeks in the NABC Division II Top 25, including rising to No. 5 in the country in January, the highest ranking for UIndy at the time since Feb In his fourth season in , the Greyhounds reached 20 wins for the first time since and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, while winning the program s first NCAA Tournament game since The Greyhounds were ranked for five weeks in the NABC Division II Top 25, while senior point guard Adrian Moss earned All-America honors and was selected to play in the Reese s Division II All- Star Game. UIndy won five games against other Top 25 programs, including defeats of No. 1 Bellarmine (99-94 OT) on Dec. 1 at Nicoson Hall and No. 1 Kentucky Wesleyan (80-77) on Jan. 21 in Owensboro, Ky. In his third season, , Gouard led the Greyhounds back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005 and into the national rankings for the first time since 2004 when UIndy was ranked No. 22 on Feb. 1. UIndy saw a seven-win increase to 19 victories during this season, led by All-American Darius Adams. Gouard helped tutor Adams to finish seventh in the country in scoring with 23.2 points per game. Adams went on to play in the Reese s Division II All-Star Game, where he led his team to victory and was named Most Outstanding Player. UIndy made headlines during the preseason when they went on the road and defeated Division I No. 23 Tennessee, 79-64, in Knoxville. The Hounds then went on to win at No. 4 Southern Indiana, 70-68, for UIndy s first win in Evansville since UIndy ended the season with a comeback victory at home over No. 21 Northern Kentucky, Gouard and the Hounds opened eyes right away in , defeating NCAA Division I Valparaiso in the team s first exhibition game. Another big win followed nearly three weeks later as the Hounds snatched a victory over defending-national champion Findlay, snapping the Oilers 38-game winning streak in the process. 7 COACHING STAFF PAUL CORSARO enters his seventh season on the Greyhound bench, serving as a full-time assistant for three seasons after a year as a graduate assistant. Last season was his first as an Associate Head Coach. An Indianapolis native and graduate of nearby Roncalli High School, Corsaro played both basketball and football for the Greyhounds before starting his coaching career. Corsaro s tenure on the UIndy staff has coincided with one of the most successful stretches in program history. The Hounds have compiled four 20-win seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances in that span. In , the Hounds won their most games in 51 years, finishing 25-6 to earn a program-first fifth straight NCAA Division II Tounament berth. With help from a season-opening 17-game winning streak, the Greyhound spent nine weeks in the top 10 of the D-II coaches poll, including a two-week stay at No. 1 - UIndy s first stint at the top since The Hounds made their biggest splash in the postseason, however, as UIndy defeated Michigan Tech and Lewis on the way to its firstever NCAA Midwest Regional final. Meanwhile, senior Joe Lawson was named first team all-region, Brennan McElroy was dubbed All-GLVC Second Team and GLVC All-Defensive Team. In Corsaro s first year on the bench in , the Greyhounds reached 20 wins for the second year in a row and earned a third straight NCAA Tournament bid. As a student-athlete, Corsaro earned three letters playing basketball for UIndy ( ) and Coach Stan Gouard. He saw action in 58 games with four starting assignments. The combo guard/forward averaged 2.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, while often being charged with the toughest defensive assignment. GEORGE HEMMINGSEN is now in his second season during his second stint on the Greyhound coaching staff, after serving under Head Coach Stan Gouard during the highly-successful campaign. That season included a two-week stretch ranked No. 1 in the nation, and UIndy finished the year with a stellar 25-6 record, capped by the team s first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Last season, Hemmingsen mentored five all-glvc performers, including freshman Tate Hall, who earned the conference s award for top rookie. Eric Davidson, Jesse Kempson, and Jimmy King were eached dubbed second-team members, while Ajay Lawton was named to the all-defensive team. The team s 12-6 record in conference action earned the Greyhounds BRYSON DAVIS-JOHNSON completed his second year with the UIndy men s basketball team in His responsibilities for the Greyhounds include assisting the staff with on-court activities, on-campus recruiting, advanced scouting and planning for travel and meals. In his second year as a member of the coaching staff, Davis-Johnson guided five all-conference players, including alldefensive member Ajay Lawton. Along with second-team members Eric Davidson, Jesse Kempson, and Jimmy King, Davis-Johnson also mentored freshman Tate Hall to the conference s award for top rookie. UIndy went 12-6 record in the GLVC, earning the team the five-seed in the tournament. the fifth seed in the GLVC tournament. The Minnesota native spent the season with NAIA Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa, and prior to his initial stint with the Hounds Hemmingsen was an assistant at former GLVC-member Kentucky Wesleyan for four years. Hemmingsen helped guide the Panthers to an (.706) mark, three 20-win seasons, two NCAA appearances and a trip to the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional final while at KWC. In addition, KWC earned the No. 1 ranking in the NABC D-II poll in both 2011 and Hemmingsen also mentored a number of future professional players at KWC, including Anthony Young (Germany), Cardell McFarland (Argentina), Kwan Waller (Mexico, NDBL), Dazmond Starks (ABA, Portugal) and Lonnie Haynes (Germany). During his first season in the Circle City, Davis-Johnson helped the Greyhounds finish 21-8 (14-4 GLVC), marking their fifth 20-win season in a row. The squad also continued UIndy s string of NCAA appearances, earning a bid for the sixth straight season. Davis-Johnson played one year of Division III basketball at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois ( ). He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Charleston High School in Charleston, Ill., while still in undergrad. During his student teaching he was an assistant coach at Danville High School in Danville, Illinois. He taught physical education at the elementary and middle school levels as well as coached high school basketball at The High School of St. Thomas More in Champaign, Ill., for two years following graduation. 7
8 MORE GREYHOUND NOTES PROSPEROUS PLAYOFF PAST The Greyhounds have now played in seven consecutive postseasons dating back to the season. In the six seasons prior to a year ago, UIndy competed in six NCAA Midwest Regionals, advancing to the second round three times and the Sweet 16 once. Last season ended the six-year run of NCAA tournament play, but the Greyhounds did advance to the GLVC quarterfinals after defeating Missouri-St. Louis in the first round. CHASING HISTORY Stan Gouard is 29 victories away from second all-time in UIndy men s basketball history. This season marks the 10th campaign that Gouard has been at the helm of the program, which ranks third in program history, as well as his seven winning seasons. REGIONAL IMPLICATIONS Along with its 18-game conference schedule, UIndy will play five other teams that will play a role in the NCAA Midwest Regional rankings: Ashland, Kentucky State, Northwood, Saginaw Valley, and Tiffin. Although not in the same region, the Greyhounds will also welcome back NCAA tournament mainstay Barry to Nicoson Hall on December 19. KNOCKING ON THE DOOR Senior Eric Davison is 296 points away from being the 40th Greyhound in history to score at least 1,000 points in a career. The Fishers, Ind. native is already seventh in program history with 152 three-pointers made, and is a tie for third in all-time 3FG percentage.
