BHSU won the first meeting between the teams, 66-41, to open the season in Spearfish. Rachel Erickson led the way for the Green and Gold, scoring 19 points.» Texas A&M-Kingsville plays in the Lone Star Conference. The team finished the season with an 8-20 record, good for 10th in the conference. The Javelinas were selected to finish 10th this year.» The Javelinas averaged 57.2 points per game last season, but leading scorer and rebounder Angelica Wilson graduated following the season. Four players return to this year s squad, and Kingsville also welcome eight transfers, including three from Division I programs. The team has just one freshman. THE GAME - Texas A&M-International Dustdevils» The Yellow Jackets enter the matchup with the Dustdevils up, 1-0, in the all-time series. The two teams met in Spearfish during the opening weekend of , with BHSU winning, Erickson led the squad with 26 points, while Keely Bertram tallied a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.» Texas A&M-International plays in the Heartland Conference. They were picked to finish eighth this year after finishing in that spot following the season with a 3-26 record.» The team s leading scorer from a year ago returns for her senior season. Tantashea Giger averaged 15.1 points per game and pulled down 7.0 rebounds per game last year, and was named to the Preseason All-Heartland Conference Team. THE COACHES» Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore enters his 17th season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a record. He is the all-time wins leader for the Yellow Jacket basketball team.» Wade Scott is in his fifth year at the helm at Texas A&M-Kingsville. He led the Javelinas to the conference tournament in Prior to coming to Kingsville, Scott was the associate head coach at the University of Houston.» Jeff Caha enters his third season as the coach of the Dustdevils. 3 YELLOW JACKETS LAST TIME OUT Black Hills State Trends Black Hills State University wrapped up the season with a NCAA Tournament First Round loss to Angelo State, It was the second appearance in the national tournament in three years, and came following an appearance in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship game. The loss gave BHSU a 24-8 overall record for the season. In the game, four different players finished in double figures, led by Julia Seamans, with 18. Keely Bertram (12), Remi Wientjes (10), and Danielle Noble (10), all scored at least 10. NATIONALLY RANKED The Yellow Jackets enter the season ranked in the WBCA Preseason Poll. BHSU comes in at No. 22, and it is the team s first ever apperance in the poll. The Green and Gold were ranked in the D2SIDA Poll last season admidst their 8-0 start to the year. FAVORITES BHSU was picked to finish first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches Poll. This is the first time the Yellow Jackets have been the preseason favorites since joining the conference. PRESEASON ACCOLADES Two members of the Green and Gold were named to the Preseason All-RMAC Team. Sophomore Lyndzi Rich and senior Julia Seamans earned the honor. SUPER SENIORS BHSU has three redshirt seniors on the squad looking to lead the way to success. Keely Bertram, Julia Seamans, and Remi Wientjes are all in their fifth year with the program. Seamans earned Honorable Mention last year, and is a Preseason Team pick after averaging 8.0 points per game a year ago. Bertram averaged 7.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg, while Wientjes averaged 6.9 points per game. SOPHOMORIC RISE Lyndzi Rich and Katie Messler return to the Yellow Jackets as sophomores, looking to continue their dominace after their first year in the program. Rich averaged 10.4 points per game, which was second on the squad, and 4.8 rebounds per game. She earned All-RMAC Honorable Mention after the season, and was selected to the RMAC Preseason Team this year. Messler averaged 4.9 ppg, and a team high 6.3 rebounds per game during her freshman campaign. GOING DANCING BHSU made the 2018 NCAA Division II Tournament as a No. 5 seed in the South Central Region. The Green and Gold made the tournament for the second time in three years. Rich averaged 15.0 points per game during the semi- and final rounds, and also recorded her first career double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds) in the championship game. Bertram averaged 13.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg in the two games. In the first Shootout Final appearance for the Yellow Jackets since 2014, the Green and Gold fell to CSU-Pueblo. ALL CONFERENCE Three Yellow Jackets earned All-RMAC honors for their play this season. Senior Rachel Erickson was named to the All-RMAC First Team. Lyndzi Rich and Julia Seamans each earned Honorable Mention. HOST WITH THE MOST The Green and Gold hosted an RMAC Quarterfinal for the second time in three years. In the first instance, BHSU hosted Colorado Christian in the quarterfinal round of the RMAC Tournament, ultimately falling, The last time the Yellow Jackets hosted a home playoff game was RECORD RECORD The Green and Gold finished the regular season 22-6 overall. 6 HEAD COACH MARK NORE 17th at Black Hills State at Black Hills State Black Hills State 99 In all, Nore has coached 27 all-conference players, one conference MCP, three most valuable seniors, three defensive players of the year and a freshman of the year in his career. Nore has led his teams to three Dakota Athletic Conference Championships (NAIA), one conference tournament championship (DAC), and had four consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament in the final four years of NAIA eligibility. A graduate of Black Hills State University, Nore played under BHSU Hall of Famer Mike Olson from 1993 to During his playing career, Nore was part of 77 wins and two trips to the NAIA national tournament. The all-time wins leader in Black Hills State women s basketball history, Mark Nore is in his 17th year at the helm of the Yellow Jacket women s basketball team. Nore took over BHSU five games into the season and has simply amassed 284 wins against just 181 losses including the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. In , the Yellow Jackets made the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years. After finishing third in the regular season, BHSU made it to the RMAC Championship game, where it fell to CSU-Pueblo.The team had the best winning percentage since the Green and Gold joined Division II. Coach Nore s career began as a high school coach in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He moved into an assistant coaching role for the women s basketball team for two years in 1998 and He then moved onto Southwest Minnesota State University where he served as a Graduate Assistant from 2000 to At SMSU, the Mustangs compiled a record and an NSIC Conference Championship. Nore received his bachelors degree in physical education and special education from Black Hills State in 1999 and earned his Master s of Science with and emphasis in PE at Southwest Minnesota State in A native of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, Nore and his wife Melissa (former standout for BHSU) have two children, Lily and Berklee and a dog named Jacke. The season saw Nore lead the Yellow Jackets to an at-large bid in the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament as a No. 7 seed. The Yellow Jackets upset No. 2 CSU-Pueblo in the first round to advance to the Round of 32. The season also saw four All-RMAC selections including First-Team All-RMAC Taylor Trohikimoinen. In , Nore coached three All-RMAC selections including three-time First Team All-RMAC Chelsey Biegler as she capped her career with 1,323 points including three years of NCAA action.
