Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. Navy s opponent has not been announced yet, but it will be against a team from the ACC. Our football program is right on track for another highly-successful year, said Gladchuk. Although we have a number of critical goals yet to achieve, it is certain that we will be in Charlotte on Dec. 30. I am pleased for Coach Johnson, the players, staff, Brigade of Midshipmen, alumni and our friends who continue to comprise a football family that is truly one of the most supportive and dedicated in the country. Charlotte is a terrific destination with a first-class bowl run by professionals who are among the best in the business. We are grateful for their confidence in Navy and, as has been the case over the past three postseasons, their community can count on Navy to deliver both on and off the field. Today is a great day for the Meineke Car Care Bowl, as we welcome the U.S. Naval Academy to Charlotte to compete in our game, said Bowl Executive Director Will Webb. Navy has shown a great deal of character and heart this year in earning this bid. We are extremely pleased to host them in the 2006 Meineke Car Care Bowl. I'm excited the team has achieved one of their goals, to have a chance to go to a bowl game, and I'm excited to be going to Charlotte. It s a great city and I m sure the kids will have a great time," said Navy head coach Paul Johnson. Our focus right now is on Eastern Michigan. After today we won't mention the bowl game again until after the Army-Navy game. It's good to get it out of the way now. There's no question where our focus needs to be and where it will be." Tickets are on sale atwww.navysports.com, by calling US4- NAVY or at the Ricketts Hall Box Office. Tickets are $75 for club seats, $55 for lower level seats and $30 for upper level seats. Fans not able to attend the game can purchase tickets to sponsor Midshipmen or enlisted personnel. The team headquarters will be the Westin Charlotte, which is situated in the uptown financial district of Charlotte, North Carolina s most exciting city. Anthony Travel will be offering all official travel packages and hotel rooms at the team headquarters hotel for the best available rates. To make your reservations online, or for more information, please visit Anthony Travel s Official Meineke Car Care Bowl Tour web page at AnthonyTravel.com/Navy_BowlTour06.cfm. The bowl bid is a landmark achievement for the football program as it marks the first time in school history that Navy has gone to fourstraight bowl games. Navy can achieve another first by beating Army on Dec. 2 (2:30 p.m., CBS) and winning the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy for a fourth-consecutive year. The Naval Academy has a national reputation as one of the best traveling teams in the country when it comes to bowl games. In 2003, Navy brought 25,000 fans to the Houston Bowl and nearly half of the student body attended the game. The crowd of 51,068 was a Houston Bowl record and outdrew 12 other bowl games. In 2004, the Naval Academy brought 18,000 fans to the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, and ranked as the seventh-most tickets sold among all bowl teams that year, an impressive number when you consider the fact Navy played in a bowl game more than 3,000 miles from Annapolis. The 18,000 tickets were more than the combined totals of the other five schools that had played in the Emerald Bowl previously. In 2005, Navy sold 20,000 tickets for the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. With the number of Navy fans that bought tickets directly through the bowl game, Navy easily contributed 30,000-35,000 fans to the game. The Meineke Car Care Bowl has averaged almost 64,000 fans each year and has sold out two of its four years. It has reached over 6.5 million television households. In 2003, it was named one of the five best start-ups in sports over the past five years by the Sports Business Journal, behind only the NFL Houston Texans and ESPN the Magazine. (AP) -- Tired of hearing the gap with its biggest rival had closed, Navy made a statement. Adam Ballard had 192 of the Midshipmen's 490 yards rushing, leading Navy to a victory over Army in the 106th meeting between the service academies. Quarterback Lamar Owens added 99 yards rushing and three TDs, Ballard scored twice and Reggie Campbell had a 54-yard TD run for bowl-bound Navy (7-4). The Midshipmen have won four straight and six of the last seven games against Army to take a one-game lead in the overall series at Zac Dahman tossed three TD passes and had 255 yards passing for Army (4-7), which had a four-game winning streak snapped. Navy outscored Army in the previous three meetings, winning each one by 28 points or more. But the much-improved Black Knights came out strong, and led 10-7 midway through the second quarter. The Midshipmen responded with TD runs of 28 and 1 yards by Owens to take a lead at halftime. Ballard's 67-yard scamper made it just 9 seconds into the fourth quarter. Navy captured the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy outright for the third straight year, a first in school history. The coveted trophy, awarded annually to the winner of the football competition between the three major service academies, was on the line for both teams for the first time in nine years.

Four Bowls in Four Years The bid to the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 30 in Charlotte, N.C. makes this year s senior class the first in school history to go to four-consecutive bowl games. The Mids lost to Texas Tech in the 2003 Houston Bowl, 38-14, defeated New Mexico in the 2004 Emerald Bowl, 34-19, and squashed Colorado State, 51-30, in the 2005 Poinsettia Bowl. A victory in the Meineke Car Care Bowl would make the senior class the first in school history to graduate with three bowl wins. The Mids are one-of-seven teams to win bowl games in each of the last two years, joining Southern Mississippi, Ohio State, Boston College, Utah, Texas and Arizona State on the list. Four Consecutive Bowls With Four Different Quarterbacks Navy will be appearing in its fourth-straight bowl game with a fourth different starting quarterback, marking just the fifth time in NCAA history that a team has gone to four or more bowl games with a different quarterback leading it each year. Graduating Class Wins Service Academy Dominance Navy s senior class improved to 7-0 against Army and Air Force with the Mids victory over Air Force on Oct. 7. With a victory over Army, the senior class would be the first in Navy history to go 8-0 against Army and Air Force and win the Commander-In-Chief s Trophy four-consecutive years. The Mids are (.702) over the last four years and will appear in a fourth-straight bowl game on Dec. 30 when Navy takes on an opponent from the ACC in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Service Academy Football-The Last Four Years Stat Navy Air Force Army Overall Record Record vs Service Academies Bowl Games Killer B s Navy s fullbacks, or B-Backs as they are called in the Navy offense, have run over Army the last three years, rushing for 523 yards (174.3 yards per contest) and five touchdowns on 73 carries (7.2 yards per carry). No Punts! Navy played two-straight games without punting (Duke and Eastern Michigan) and went 133:46 without a punt, which is just short of nine quarters. The Mids have not punted in four of their last 19 games and have four games this year with one or no punts (Navy punted once against East Carolina and Stanford). It is believed to be the first time in the modern era that Navy has played back-to-back games without punting and it is the first time since 1988, when Clemson didn t punt against North Carolina and Maryland, that any college team went two-straight games without punting. First-Team Offense Scores Touchdowns on 13-of-14 Possessions Navy s first-team offense scored a touchdown on nine-straight possessions and on 13-of-14 possessions in games against Duke, Eastern Michigan and Temple. Navy s first team scored a touchdown the final time it had the ball against Duke, all seven possessions against Eastern Michigan and on five of the first-six possessions against Temple. Five Over 100 Shun White s (So./Memphis, Tenn.) seven-carry, 114-yard rushing day against Temple was his first-career 100-yard game and it marked the fifth-different Navy player to rush for over 100 yards this year, the most of any team in the country. Senior quarterback Brian Hampton (Scott Air Force Base, Ill.) leads the team with four 100- yard rushing games, while junior fullback Adam Ballard (Lewisville, Texas) has three and Reggie Campbell (Jr./Sanford, Fla.) and Kaipo- Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (So./Kapolei, Hawaii) have two apiece. Mids Set Attendance Mark Navy averaged a school-record 33,275 fans for its five home games this fall, breaking the previous mark of 33,013 set last year. It is just the third time in school history that Navy has averaged over 30,000 fans per contest. Playing in the Big Time Since the start of the 2003 season, Navy has played 12 games in nine different big league stadiums (eight NFL and one MLB), posting a 7-5 record. No college team in the coountry has played in more NFL stadiums than Navy has over the last four years. The Mids will play four games in NFL stadiums in 2006, having already played Notre Dame in Baltimore and Eastern Michigan at Ford Field with upcoming games against Army in Philadelphia and the Meineke Car Care Bowl at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. on Dec. 30 (home of the Carolina Panthers). Defense Sets School Record For Sacks, Holds Temple to 13 Yards Rushing The Navy defense sacked Temple quarterbacks a schoolrecord seven times on Saturday in Navy s 42-6 victory over Temple. Senior defensive end Tye Adams (Blackfoot, Idaho) led the Mids with two sacks, while John Chan (Sr./Pleasant Hill, Calif.), David Mahoney (Sr./Fort Myers, Fla.), Tyler Tidwell (Sr./Edmond, Okla.), Larry Cylc (Sr./Claymont, Del.) and Jonathan Alvarado (Jr./Baton Rouge, La.) had one sack each. Earlier this year, the Mids recorded five sacks against Air Force. Thanks to all the sacks, the Mids held Temple to just 13 yards rushing, the fewest by a Navy opponent since Nov. 6, 1999, when Navy held Rutgers to seven yards on 26 carries in a 34-7 rout. Temple s six points are the fewest scored against a Navy defense since the 2004 season when Navy shut out Tulsa, Kaipo Enters the Record Book Sophomore quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada s (Kapolei, Hawaii) four rushing touchdowns against Eastern Michigan are tied for the second-most rushing touchdowns in a single game in school history and tied for the fifth-most total touchdowns in a game. Naval Academy at the Head of the Class for Graduation Rates For the second year in a row, the United States Naval Academy is at the head of the class for graduating NCAA student-athletes on the Division IA level. Navy graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes in 16 of the 19 sports reported on and no sport graduated lower than 97 percent. Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall, said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. The support and encouragement they receive through the Commandant and his staff and the academic dean s office is extraordinary and provides tremendous motivation to be successful across the board. We are all proud to be leaders on the field, but even more so when we can prove to be leaders in the classroom as well. It clearly defines the true meaning of student-athlete. The three will now be on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors. Veteto, who carries a 3.96 grade-point average in Ocean Engineering, has been a pleasant surprise for the Mids in his first year as the starting punter, averaging 38.4 yards per kick. Veteto has forced a fair catch on 10 of his 32 punts and another 10 of his punts have been downed inside the 20. He has a 4.0 GPA so far this semester. McCoy, who carries a 3.62 GPA in Chemistry, has been a terrific special teams player and blocker out of the backfield for the 7-3 Midshipmen. He recovered an on-side kick in the final minute to snuff out a late Pirate rally and forced and recovered a fumble at Stanford on a kickoff. His outstanding blocking has helped pave the way for the nation s top rushing team in the country (324.5 per game). Speaking of blocking, there may not be a better blocker in the country at the running back position thansingleton. Singleton, who carries a 3.29 GPA in Aerospace Engineering and who aspires to be an astronaut, is a joy to watch on the football field as he unselfishly throws his body around to spring long runs for the Navy offense. Singleton is also a top special teams player, making a remarkable 12 tackles and recovering a fumble. When Singleton has gotten a chance with the ball he has made the most of it, rushing for 125 yards on just 21 carries (5.7 yards per carry) and catching four passes for 60 yards (15 yards per carry).
