Match time is pegged for 7 p.m. at the Phyllis Ocker Field Hockey Field in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. No. 25 Liberty (0-1) is seeking its first win of the season following a 3-1 setback against No. 19 James Madison, Saturday in Lynchburg. No. 11 Michigan (2-0) is coming off a weekend sweep at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa. The Wolverines upset No. 1 North Carolina, 3-2, on Saturday and knocked off No. 15 Wake Forest, 5-4, on Sunday to complete the sweep and improve to 2-0 on the year. The Lady Flames starting lineup against JMU featured five newcomers (Jill Bolton, Ashley Dykema, Victoria O Keeffe, Greer Wilson, Moniek van Aarle.). Freshmen Carolyn Haase, Jordyn Keller and Alexis Paone also saw playing time in the contest. Liberty failed to convert on a penalty corner (0-for- 5) against JMU. The Lady Flames drew 125 short corners last year (6.94/game) while yielding just 75 short corners (4.17/game). Sophomore goalkeeper Allison Schaefer currently has 131 saves, needing 76 more to surpass Mallory Cuccio ( ) for the all-time program career mark. Parsley spent the 2016 season as an assistant coach for the Lady Flames and the two previous seasons (2014, 2015) as an assistant at Yale. LIBERTY NOTES Parsley Parsley enjoyed a successful four-year playing career at Northwestern prior to getting her start in coaching. ALL-CONFERENCE RETURNEES Last year, Liberty garnered five BIG EAST All- Conference selections. Returning to this year s squad are three All-BIG EAST selections, led by 2016 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Allison Schaefer. Liberty also returns All-BIG EAST first team honoree Agueda Moroni and All-BIG EAST second team selection Abby Julius. CHALLENGING 2017 SCHEDULE Michigan will be Liberty s second consecutive ranked opponent, after the Lady Flames faced No. 19 JMU in their season opener, last Saturday. Liberty faces another challenging slate in 2017, as the Lady Flames take on five of the top six teams in the NFHCA rankings and nine preseason ranked opponents overall. Four of those contests will be held at the Liberty Field Hockey Field, including a Sept. 10 showdown against defending national champion No. 3 Delaware. Liberty will also welcome No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Duke and No. 4 UConn to Lynchburg. SCOUTING MICHIGAN The Wolverines collected two impressive wins over ranked ACC foes No. 1 North Carolina and No. 15 Wake Forest, last weekend. Michigan tallied eight goals in the two contests. The Wolverines defeated the Tar Heels, 3-2, despite being outshot 24-4 in the match. Seven different Wolverines have entered the scoring column in the early stages of the season, led by sophomore midfielder/forward Meg Downthwaite with two goals. Downthwaite paces the squad with five points, while sophomore defender Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort leads Michigan with three assists. Senior goalkeeper Sam Swenson will handle the goalkeeping responsibilities for the Wolverines. The England native is 2-0 with a 3.00 goals-against-average and 14 saves in two games. Michigan is coached by Marcia Pankratz, who is in her 18th overall season as head coach of the Michigan field hockey program. Last season, Liberty faced 10 ranked opponents. PRESEASON RECAP The Lady Flames wrapped up a successful preseason, in which they competed in two matches. Five days into preseason (Aug. 15), Liberty defeated Richmond, 5-2. Agueda Moroni tallied three goals for the Lady Flames in that contest. At William & Mary on Aug. 19, Liberty earned a 3-2 victory in exhbition action versus the Tribe. Mallory Fortenbaugh, Moniek van Aarle and Agueda Moroni notched goals for the Lady Flames. Sophomore netminder Allison Schaefer made 12 saves in the victory. SENIOR CLASS SPOTLIGHT The Lady Flames senior class consists of five players, three of which are team captains - Cassidy Bremner, Alynn Richardson and Rachel Suter. Goalkeeper Monica Hernick and midfielder Summer Parker also are back for their senior campaigns. LIBERTY CLASS OF 2017 The Lady Flames welcome 10 new players to this year s squad. Transfer Greer Wilson will provide valuable experience in the midfield, while graduate student Moniek van Aarle will see significant time on the attacking line. Freshmen Jill Bolton, Ashley Dykema and Victoria O Keeffe also figure to play prominent roles. First-year players Kennedy Luke, Carolyn Haase, Alexis Paone, Jordyn Keller and Ali Raha will also provide valuable depth to the team. 2

Liberty received one first-place vote. The Lady Flames have been picked to finish second in the conference for the last two years. MORONI, JULIUS ALL-BIG EAST TEAM Liberty sophomore Agueda Moroni and junior Abby Julius garnered individual recognition by being voted to the preseason All-BIG EAST team. Moroni was a first team All-BIG EAST selection in 2016, leading all conference players with eight goals in seven regular-season contests. Julius tallied five goals, four assists and 14 points in BIG EAST action, last year. Moroni scored the Lady Flames first goal of the season, last Saturday vs. No. 19 JMU. She recorded five shots (four on goal), while Julius tallied two shots in the match. 4 THE PARSLEY FILE HEAD COACH First Season as Head Coach at Liberty Alma Mater: Northwestern, 14 COACHING RECORD Year School Record 2017 Liberty 0-1 Career Record: 0-1 Record at Liberty: 0-1 COACHING LEDGER 2017-Present...Liberty (Head Coach) Liberty (Assistant Coach) Yale (Assistant Coach) HEAD COACH NIKKI PARSLEY One year after joining Liberty s staff as an assistant coach, Nikki Parsley was named the program s second head coach on January 16, Parsley joined Liberty s staff as an assistant coach on May 1 in time for Liberty s first season as a part of the BIG EAST Conference. Parsley becomes the second head coach in the history of the program, taking over for program founder Jodi Murphy, who left in December During her first season with the Lady Flames, Parsley helped Liberty post an 8-10 record and finish in second place in the BIG EAST with a 5-2 conference mark. The Lady Flames squared off against 10 nationally ranked opponents in 2016, spotlighted by a 2-1 overtime victory against No. 20 American on Oct. 6. Parsley helped instruct five of Liberty s All-BIG EAST selections in 2016, including BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Allison Schaefer and BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year Serena Barr. Barr also went on to earn NFHCA Division I All-America second team honors, becoming the second All- American in program history. From the moment I stepped on campus, I knew there was something unbelievably special about Liberty University and its field hockey program, commented Parsley. I truly believe Liberty is set apart from any other institution in the country to allow the school to glorify Jesus Christ. There is absolutely no place I would rather coach at than Liberty, and I m blessed for the opportunity to lead such a unique group of young women. Parsley came to Liberty after spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons as an assistant coach at Yale. Prior to her two-year stint at Yale, Parsley concluded a standout career at Northwestern in 2014, where she earned second team All-America honors as a senior. Parsley was a four-time All-West region pick and a three-time All-Big 10 selection. A forward/midfielder, Parsley started 76 games, totaling 33 goals and 76 points. The Wildcats went in Parsley s playing career, earning a share of the Big Ten championship in Parsley also has extensive experience with USA Field Hockey, including playing for the U.S. at the Four Nations Tournament in New Zealand in April She also played on the junior national team at the Junior World Cup in Germany in August 2013, helping the U.S. to a seventh-place finish, tied for the best in the team s history. In January 2013, Parsley played in the Australian Youth Olympics, and in September 2012 she played in the Junior Pan American Games in Mexico. She helped the U.S. to a third-place finish at the Junior Pan Am Games, leading the team with eight goals. Parsley has also played for the U.S. U-21 team (on a tour of England in April 2012) and the U.S. U-19 team (on a tour of Chile in April 2011). Parsley received her B.S. in education and social policy from Northwestern in She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times, was on the Dean s List three times and was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
