9 2008 Outlook Considered one of the elite programs in New England, 10th year head coach Sean Quirk guided the men s lacrosse team to a top-15 national ranking and a fourth-straight Commonwealth Coast Conference championship in Endicott continued their dominance of the CCC, as the Gulls have now won an astonishing 40-straight regular season Conference games, a streak that dates back to the 2003 season. Fueled by one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the country, the Gulls suffered close losses to perennial powers in third-ranked Wesleyan, Bowdoin, No. 6 Tufts, After closing out the regular season with a 13-2 record, the Gulls ran the table in the Conference Playoffs, outscoring the opposition 29-7 in two games to capture the CCC title and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Endicott s 15-3 record tied the program mark for most wins and fewest losses in a season. Sean Quirk and fifth year assistant coach Mark Jannoni devised an equally potent offense and formidable defense as the Gulls ranked fourth in the nation in goals per game (14.44) and ninth in the nation in goals against (6.28). That, along with a top-5 man up team, made Endicott one of the most dangerous teams in America. Endicott lost few key players to graduation in Senior attackman Josh Gilbert 07 (Simsbury, CT) led the Blue and Green on the offensive end as the CCC Offensive Player of the Year and USILA All-American scored 55 goals and dished out 17 assists for 72 points. Gilbert s 3+ goals per game average placed him 14th overall in the country in individual scoring. The 2008 opposition will not be saddened by the loss of Dan Ryan 07 (Billerica, MA). Best known around the league for his perilous shot, Ryan was named to the CCC Second Team and was recognized as a NEILA All-New England selection in The Endicott defense takes a hit by losing CCC Defensive Player of the Year, Patrick Gaffney 07 (Worcester, MA) to graduation. A standout defender, Gaffney drew the difficult assignment of guarding each team s best player. Arguably the best long-pole in New England, Patrick leaves Endicott as a four-time First Team All-CCC selection, a back-to-back All-New England honoree, and USILA All-American. The Gulls also lose the consistent play of Second Team All-Conference defender Rick Hancock 07 (Wading River, NY). The gulls return a solid nucleus of experienced players in Juniors Nick Cosco 09 (Londonderry, NH) and Brandon Dube 09 (Danvers, MA) complimented the departing Gilbert on attack as Cosco s breakout season featured 39 goals and 24 assists in his second year. Not to be outdone, Dube turned his game on late, as he found the back of net 39 times and assisted on 32 other tallies for a team second-best 71 points. Through the midfield, it all started with face-off specialist John Ortolani 09 (Billerica, MA). The sophomore dominated the X for Gulls in 2007, winning 237-of-335 for a 70.7% winning percentage (fourth in the nation). Junior midfielder and First Team All-CCC selection Eddie O Reilly 09 (Beverly, MA) looks to add to his 31 goal and 23 assist season in his junior season. Returning to help fill the void are workhorse and two-way middies Joe Gugino 09 (West Hartford, CT) and Dan Cain 09 (Billerica, MA). All-League goaltender Sean Kearney 09 (Mahopac, NY) returns for his junior campaign in 08 after posting impressive numbers in his first full year between the pipes for the Gulls. Kearney anchored the nation s ninth ranked defense, as he posted a 61.1% save percentage in his sophomore season. Sophomore Eric Hagarty 10 (Sudbury, MA) and Shane Gallagher 09 (Lowell, MA) will also contend for time in the Endicott net this spring. Mainstay defensive leader and a 2007 Second Team All-CCC selection Adrien Peacock 09 (Billerica, MA) returns to secure the Endicott defensive zone. The Gulls also welcome the return of seniors Lucien Bolduc 08 (South Windsor, CT) and CCC Honorable Mention recipient Alex Marshall 08 (Eliot, ME). Both long-poles look to help push the Gulls back to the NCAA Tournament in their final season. Head Coach Sean Quirk celebrates an outstanding incoming recruiting class as the Gulls welcome several newcomers to campus. Catholic Conference Player of the Year Philip Carr (Melrose, MA) looks to join the Gulls midfield crop while All-Conference defensemen Robert Crossett (Katonah, NY) and All-American Andrew Pochebit (Portland, ME) hope to hold down the Gulls defense in 2008.
