Griffi th Director of Athletics: Dr. William Bee Carlton Sports Information Phone: Fax: Website: WBB Contact: Caroline Morris camorris@presby.edu Cell: WHERE HAVE ALL THE SENIORS GONE?: While the Big South Conference has a plethora of young talent, the numbers get a little thin at the top of the class. Niether PC nor Coastal Carolina have any seniors listed on their roster. This will be the third game this season sans seniors; there weren t any present on either side of the court against High Point or Gardner-Webb. DOUBLE THREAT: Sophomore guards Amanda Mills and Katlin Moore are constantly trading the title of PC s scoring leader back and forth. Currently Mills has the edge by one tenth of a point (11.3 points per game to Moore s 11.2ppg). The backcourt pair rank 11th and 12th in the Big South Conference in scoring, respectively. Right behind them, Coastal Carolina s top two scorers, Amanda Stull and Sydnei Moss, occupy the 13th and 14th spots in the Big South. The pair of Chanticleers are also trading the top position back and forth, averaging one point less than Mills and Moore. COASTAL CONNECTIONS: PC s athletic trainer, Heide Burgin has a divided household when it comes to Big South basketball. She is in her fourth year as the women s basketball trainer while her husband, Chris, is in the midst of his second year as the Chanticleers women s basketball program. The division is nothing new for the couple as Heide graduated from Clemson and Chris is a South Carolina alum. MINISTERS OF DEFENSE: Forwards Chelsea Wright and Lea Smith have defended the basket with increased effi ciency in January. Smith grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Charleston Southern on Saturday evening. The fourth game of eight rebounds or more this month, Smith is averaging 5.6 boards per game, compared to 5.2 rpg in December. She is currently ranked 13th in the Big South in rebounding. Wright recorded a season-high nine rebounds in two of the last four games against Gardner-Webb (1/26) and Radford (1/19). She had eight off the glass at High Point (1/24) and seven against Charleston Southern (1/31). Sophomore Amanda Mills (Oregon City, Ore./San Diego Mesa CC) jumpstarted PC s offense with a three-pointer three minutes into the fi rst half to cut Clemson s lead to 4-3. The Blue Hose continued to hang tough as sophomore guard Katlin Moore (Fort Mills, S.C./Charlotte Catholic (N.C.)) was fouled while making a layup to tie the score at eight. She made the extra basket to take a 9-8 lead with 11:12 remaining in the fi rst half. The Tigers junior Lele Hardy racked up a game-high 13 points. She added fi ve steals for a career total of 189, eighth in school history. Gretchen Polinski s back-toback treys narrowed Colgate s defi cit to two points with 1:23 remaining. A turnover by the Raiders with 8.2 seconds on the clock gave PC possession and Moore sank a jumper at the buzzer to give the Blue Hose a lead at halftime. The Panthers (2-2) turned up the heat on their offense, drawing fouls to turn several plays into three-point scoring opportunities. A jumper by Jylisa Williams widened Georgia State s lead to 20 points before a layup by freshman forward Brittany Brown (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) and successive shots from the line by Mills brought PC within 16 points with 3:18 to go in the half.
