Commissioner for Media Relations 2999 County Road 42 West Burnsville, MN P: Kornder@northernsun.org NSIC Players of the Week North Division #25 Emily Gruber F/C, 5-11, Fr., Monticello, Minn Monticello HS Minnesota Crookston Emily Gruber had the best weekend of her young career as she tallied an NSIC-high 23.5 points per game to go with 6.5 rebounds per game as the Golden Eagles picked up one of their biggest wins in program history with a win at No. 7 Wayne State. Gruber notched 26 points and six rebounds in the win at Wayne State and tallied 21 points and seven rebounds in a overtime loss at Augustana. Gruber was 52.9 percent from the field (18-34) and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (10-12) in the two games while adding three assists and two steals. South Division #3 Shaunteva Ashley G, 5-8, Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D. Roosevelt HS Augustana Ashley guided the Vikings to two wins in NSIC play over the weekend. The senior guard recorded the second double-double of her career in an win at home over Bemidji State on Friday with 18 points and 13 assists. The 13 assists was a career high for Ashley and just one short of the school record for assists in a game. Ashley followed up that performance with all-around effort in a wild overtime win against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, finishing with 24 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in the contest. Ashley finished the weekend with averages of 21.0 points, 10.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds on 48.6 percent shooting from the field. The 21 assists were ten better than the next best performance in the NSIC this past weekend. This marks the third time this season Ashely has been named NSIC South Division Player of the Week (11/17 & 11/24). 2 NSIC WOMEN S BASKETBALL NOTES Augustana Vikings (8-4, 2-3 NSIC) Dave Krauth Sioux Falls 74 26th Season Record: 16-12, NSIC (t-9th) Bemidji State Beavers (2-7, 0-5 NSIC) Mike Curfman Concordia College 92 10th Season Record: 9-18, 5-17 NSIC (14th) #3 Shaunteva Ashley (G, 5-8, Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D. / Roosevelt HS) - Ashley guided the Vikings to two wins in NSIC play over the weekend - The senior guard recorded the second double-double of her career in an win at home over Bemidji State on Friday with 18 points and 13 assists - The 13 assists were not only a career high for Ashley, also just one short of the school record for assists in a game - She followed up that performance with all-around effort in a wild overtime win against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, finishing with 24 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in the contest - Ashley finished the weekend with averages of 21.0 points, 10.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds on 48.6 percent shooting from the field Augustana and Wayne State meet for the 32nd time on Saturday, with the Vikings leading the series This is the second meeting between the two teams this year, with the Wildcats winning back on Nov. 24 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears (6-4, 2-2 NSIC) Paul Fessler Northern Iowa 88 15th Season Record: 28-9, 16-6 NSIC (4th) -CU split their road trip at Winona State and Upper Iowa -Concordia led late in the second half before a 12-3 WSU run helped close out a win for the Warriors -CU inserted three new starters on Saturday which helped spark a win over UIU -Ameshia Kearney led CU with 13.0 points per game on from the floor on the weekend -Caitlyn Russell led Concordia with a career-high 16 points against UIU -CU shot 45.1% from the floor as a team and held their opponents to 36.0% in the two games -CU assisted on 34 of their 55 baskets -Concordia meets Minnesota State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in their final game before the break -CU is in 29 previous meetings with MSU -The Mavericks swept the Golden Bears last season and has won four of five in the series -MSU s average margin of victory last season was 18.5 points The Beavers dropped two games on the road in their first NSIC road trip of the season as they fell to Augustana Friday, and #7 Wayne State Saturday, Leading the Beavers in scoring against WSC for the second time this season was Tatum Sheley as she charted 14 points. Sheley ended the weekend charting the second highest point total with 29 points Allison Cordes, Hanna Zerr and Aimee Pelzer recorded 13 points each with Afton Kuehndorf adding 11 to end the weekend Mikayla Larson not only led the team in rebounds and steals against the Wildcats but her numbers were career-highs with nine rebounds and four steals #32 Sierra Senske (C, Fr., Glyndon, Minn. (Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton HS)) Recorded her first career double-double as she led the Beavers offense with 19 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds against Augustana. Senske shot 8-of-8 from the field and added three free throws in her 32 minutes of action Averaged 15.0 points per game in 59 minutes of action on the weekend Marked her fifth consecutive game scoring in double-digits with 11 points against Wayne State Senske finished the weekend shooting 63.2 percent (12-19) from the field and went 6-of-13 from the free throw line Totaled 18 rebounds (9.0 RPG) on the weekend including her career-high 11 at Augie and one assist Leads the Beavers in rebounding (6.3 RPG) and is second on the squad in scoring with 11.8 points per game. Ranks third among the league best in field goal percentage (58.6%, 41-70) Bemidji State will be back in action Dec. 19 as it travels to rival Minnesota Crookston before the holiday break. BSU is 3-2 in the last five meetings as UMC defeated the Beavers in the NSIC opener in Bemidji University of Mary Marauders (5-6, 3-2 NSIC) Rick Neumann U-Mary 98 3rd Season Record: 17-10, 14-8 NSIC (t-5th) #13 Brittney Dietz (F, 5-10, R-Jr., Beach, N.D., Beach HS) - Averaged 20.5 points in two wins the previous week over Southwest Minnesota and Sioux Falls - Scored 28 points on 12-for-21 shooting (57.1%) against Southwest Minnesota - Played all 45 minutes in OT win over the Mustangs with six rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block - Finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks in win over Sioux Falls despite leaving the game early with an injury - Handed the University of Sioux Falls their first loss, after holding the Cougars to 17.1% shooting (5-for-35) in the second half, totaling 15 points, and overcame a 19 point second half deficit. - The Marauders head upstate for one more game before Christmas Break to take on Minot State University - U-Mary defeated Minot State in the first meeting between the teams, 57-56, after Sloan Turner blocked the potential game-winning shot

3 R NSIC WOMEN S BASKETBALL NOTES Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (3-6, 2-3 NSIC) Mike Roysland Bemidji State 80 8th Season Record: 10-17, 7-15 NSIC (12th) Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3 NSIC) Annette Wiles Fort Hays State 91 7th Season Record: 14-13, NSIC (t-9th) Emily Gruber (Fr., F/C, Monticello, Minn.) - Gruber had her best weekend of her young career as she tallied 23.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game as the Golden Eagles picked up one of their biggest upsets in program history with a win over No. 7 Wayne State and took Augustana to overtime in a loss. Gruber tallied 21 points and seven rebounds against Augustana on 9-of-14 from the field. In addition, she notched 26 points and six rebounds in the win over Wayne State. Gruber was 9-of-20 from the field and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. Gruber was 52.9 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. She was averaging 6.3 points per game on the season coming into the weekend before coming up big in a major moments for the Golden Eagles. Especially in the absence of injured freshman Isieoma Odor. Gruber has improved her average to 10.1 points per game following her weekend performance. UMD suffered a pair of setbacks in its return to Romano Gymnasium, falling against No. 3 Northern State on Friday night before a second-half comeback fell short against MSU Moorhead on Saturday Jessica Newman (Sr. / G / 5-9 / Barnum, Minn. / Barnum H.S.) - Led the Bulldogs offensively as they went toe-to-toe with the thirdranked team of the nation and made a second half-comeback against the Dragons, averaging 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds on the weekend Taylor Dillinger (Jr. / G / 5-8 / Houghton, Mich. / Houghton H.S.) - Posted the best game of her season on Saturday afternoon against the Dragons, falling a rebound short of a double-double with 10 points, nine boards, six steals, and five assists while shooting 40.0 percent and going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line - The Bulldogs host St. Cloud State on Saturday to close out the season s first half. SCSU knocked off UMD in St. Cloud on Nov. 29 earlier this season. The Huskies own a all-time record against the Bulldogs Minnesota State Mavericks (6-3, 3-1 NSIC) Emilee Thiesse Nebraska-Kearney 04 3rd Season Record: 23-6, 18-4 NSIC (2nd) Lexie Ulfers (F, 6-2 Senior, Waseca, Minn. / Waseca) - Recorded two more double-doubles this past weekend, which now makes her fourth straight double-double - On Friday in MSU s overtime win over UIU, Ulfers posted17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks - In Saturday s loss against Winona State, Ulfers matched her numbers from the night before with another 22 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with her two assists and two blocks - For the weekend, she averaged team-highs 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a game - Also led the team with four blocks and shot 64% (16-25) from the field - Logged 29.5 minutes a game this weekend MSU Moorhead Dragons (4-5, 3-2 NSIC) Karla Nelson North Dakota 90 15th Season Record: 16-11, NSIC (t-7th) Drew Sannes (F, 6-3, RFr. Hawley, Minn./Hawley HS) had one of the best weekends of her young Dragon career as MSUM split on the road last weekend, averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the week while shooting.647 percent from the field. She had 13 points and nine rebounds, both career-highs, in MSUM s loss at St. Cloud State on Friday. She followed that with 12 points and eight rebounds in MSUM s win at Minnesota Duluth. She also had five blocks on the week. Junior guard Meghan Roehrich averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on the weekend for MSUM to continue to lead the team in scoring. She leads MSUM in scoring at 17.3 points per game this season and has been in double figures in eight of the team s nine games this season. - The Mavericks went 1-1 this past weekend, as they beat Upper Iowa on Friday night before they fell to Winona State on Saturday night - MSU is currently 6-3 overall and stands at 3-1 in the NSIC - Up next for the Mavericks, they will travel to Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

4 NSIC WOMEN S BASKETBALL NOTES Minot State Beavers (6-4, 1-4 NSIC) Sheila Green Gerding MSU-Northern 20th Season Record: 19-9, 14-8 NSIC (t-5th) #50 Christina Boag (F, 6-2, Sr., Tamworth, Australia / Abbotsleigh) - Averaged a double-double on the weekend with 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to split a pair of games - Finished with five assists, four steals and three blocked shots to go along with her points and rebounds - Reached the 500 rebound total in her career Friday night, pulling down a game-high 11 to go along with season-high 23 points in the loss to USF Northern State Wolves (10-1, 4-1 NSIC) Curt Fredrickson Northern State 76 36th Season Record: 24-7, 17-5 NSIC (3rd) The No. 3 Northern State University Wolves split the road weekend versus Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. NSU is 10-1 on the year and 4-1 in conference play. NSU defeated Minnesota Duluth 62-46, and fell to St. Cloud State Rachel Krogman recorded two double-doubles on the weekend averaging 12.5 points and 11 rebounds in the two games. Minot State used a great defensive effort Saturday night to end a four-game losing streak, topping SMSU to salvage a split on the weekend - The Beavers fell Friday at home against the University of Sioux Falls, snapping an eight-game winning streak that dated back to last season #50 Christina Boag (F, 6-2, Sr., Tamworth, Australia / Abbotsleigh) - Reached the 500 rebound total in her career Friday night, pulling down a game-high 11 to go along with 23 points in the loss to USF - Her 20 rebounds puts Boag at 514 in her career, the sixth best total in school history. She is just 125 points to reach 1,000 for her career becoming just the sixth player in school history to have 1,000 points and 500 rebounds - Averaged a double-double on the weekend with 17 points and 10 rebounds. #22 Katie Hardy (F, 6-1, Sr., Fairview, N.D. / Fairview) - Led Minot State Saturday with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Beavers snapped a four-game losing streak - Needs just 100 points to join 12 others in the exclusive 1,000 point club at MSU #20 Alex Haley (G, 5-8, So., Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) - Found her scoring touch again with 12 points against Southwest Minnesota - Averaged 9.5 points on the weekend Minot State finishes the calendar year at home with a conference game against rival University of Mary Friday and a nonconference game with Michigan Tech Saturday Sioux Falls Cougars (8-1, 4-1 NSIC) Travis Traphagen Black Hills State 99 7th Season Record: 14-15, 8-14 NSIC (11th) University of Sioux Falls suffered their first defeat of the season and earned a split over their first weekend road trip of the year. The Cougars used a career-best 24 points from sophomore forward Sam Knecht to take down Minot State, 71-61, on Friday night. The following evening, the Cougars weren t as fortunate as they struggled format he free throw line, and squandered a 19-point lead to fall for the first time this season, 62-58, to University of Mary. #50 Sam Knecht (F, 6-0, So., Faulkton, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) - Led USF with 18.0 points per game and was second with 7.5 rebounds per contest this past weekend - Scored a career-high 24 points in win over Minot State on Friday night - Shot 10-for-16 from the field and grabbed six rebounds in the victory - Scored 12 points with nine rebounds in the Cougars first loss of the season, to U-Mary on Saturday evening - Registered five blocks in 41 minutes played for USF SMSU Mustangs (0-9, 0-5 NSIC) Allison Kruger Nebraska-Kearney 04 5th Season Record: 4-23, 2-20 NSIC (16th) #22 Lauren Hedlund (Forward, 5-11, Fr., Hinton, Iowa / Hinton) -Scored a team high 37 points points over the weekend -Grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds vs U-Mary and MISU -Shot 53 percent from the floor in over the weekend -Score 21 points vs. Minot State for her fourth 20+ point game this season -Leads the team as a true freshman in both points and rebounds with 126 and 58, respectfully -Averages 14 points a game and 6.4 rebounds. -Second on team in steals with 11 and tied for first in blocks with five -Leads the team with shooting 54 percent from the floor Southwest Minnesota State women s basketball team will travel to the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday to take on the Cougars at 2 p.m.

5 NSIC WOMEN S BASKETBALL NOTES St. Cloud State Huskies (8-0, 5-0 NSIC) Lori Fish South Dakota State 90 7th Season Record: 16-11, NSIC (t-7th) Chelsea Nooker (So., G, Green Bay, Wis.) - recorded a season-high 18 points against MSU Moorhead. She finished the game with seven rebounds and three steals against the Dragons - Battling the Dragons Nooker made 8 of 11 from the field shooting 72.7% - Against #3 Northern State Nooker knocked down 11 points making 3 of 5 from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 from the line - For the weekend Nooker shot 100% from the free throw line making 5 of 5 - She grabbed a total of 12 rebounds, five steals, and shot 68.8% from the field this on Dec. 12 and 13 - SCSU defeated MSU Moorhead Friday, Dec Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) led all players scoring 18 points for the Huskies -She also recorded seven rebounds and three steals against the Dragons - Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) also scored in the double digits with 16 points. LeCaptain grabbed five rebounds and finished with 2 steals - The Huskies upset #3 Northern State University with a final score of Against Northern State Kyli Van Klei (Stillwater, Minn.) finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Van Klei was 2 of 4 from behind the arc - St. Cloud State shot 33% from the field and 83% from the line making 15 of 18 against the Wolves Wayne State Wildcats (9-2, 3-2 NSIC) Chris Kielsmeier Iowa State 99 7th Season Record: 28-5, 19-3 NSIC (1st) #44 Jordan Spencer, 5-11 Sr. Forward, Omaha, Neb. (Millard West HS/UNO) - averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game vs. Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State - had fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds in win over Bemidji State Saturday - scored 23 points with nine rebounds in Friday s upset loss to Minn. Crookston Friday Upper Iowa Peacocks (3-6, 1-4 NSIC) Carol Russell Nebraska 93 5th Season Record: 4-18, 5-22 NSIC (15th) Lauren Buck (F, 5-11, Sr., Anamosa, Iowa, Anamosa HS) - Averaged 17 points and 11.5 rebounds in UIU s two losses - Poured in a career-high 28 in the Peacocks overtime loss to Minnesota State Aleesha Cleaver (G, 5-8, Jr., Davis, Ill., Dakota HS, Rock Valley College - Averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game - Netted 22 points in Saturday s loss to Concordia - Lindsay Carroll and Olivia Winkler averaged 11 points per game, while Winkler added 8.5 rebounds per contest - UIU lost a tough overtime game against MSU on Friday, 80-75, and then dropped a decision to Concordia on Saturday - Over the weekend, UIU outrebounded their opponents 42.5 to 40 per game - The team will host Winona State in its only game of the week Saturday evening in Fayette. Winona State Warriors (8-1, 4-1 NSIC) WINONA STATE Scott Ballard SW Missouri State 79 10th Season Record: 10-17, 6-16 NSIC (13th) #14 Tara Roelofs (G, 5-9, So., Vernon Center, Minn. / Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial HS) - Roelofs put together two straight 20-point games, averaging 21.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent (15-for-30) from the field to provide the driving force behind the Warriors two big home victories over Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State - Scored a season-high 22 points Friday in a win over Concordia-St. Paul, making seven of 13 shots (54 percent), including a pair of 3-pointers. The sophomore had a great all-around performance, grabbing three rebounds, dishing out two assists, and recording a block and a steal in 34 minutes of action - Followed up with another terrific performance Saturday in a win over Minnesota State, dealing the Mavericks their first NSIC loss. Roelofs scored 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting including three 3-pointers. She also grabbed a season-high five rebounds in a season-high 35 minutes played. The Winona State women s basketball team produced a weekend sweep against a pair of rivals and quality opponents. The Warriors beat Concorida-St. Paul and Minnesota State at home each by double digits, beating the Golden Bears before downing the Mavericks The Warriors (8-1, 4-1 NSIC) take to the road next weekend for their final game of 2014 to face the Upper Iowa Peacocks for the second time this season on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Dorman Gymnasium. The Warriors won the first matchup of the year on Nov. 29 in Winona as all but two Warriors who played scored in the game and the trio of Connor Nagle, Kayla Timmerman and Tara Roelofs all scored in double digits. As a team, the Warriors shot 54 percent in the victory
