Hopkins is coming off a tough 10-7 loss to 14th-ranked Stanford on Friday, while Towson fell 14-7 to second-ranked Maryland last Tuesday. Sundays game is the Blue Jays first road game in 14 days. Last Time Out: A 15-save performance from sophomore Julianne Wisner kept 14th-ranked Stanford nearly six goals below its season average, but the Hopkins offense could only generate seven goals in a 10-7 loss to 14th-ranked Stanford on Friday afternoon. Juniors Paige Ibello and Brett Bathras each scored a pair of goals and dished an assist for the Blue Jays, while the Cardinal s Sarah Flynn notched a hat trick in the low-scoring contest. With the game tied at 1-1 just 4:05 into the contest, Stanford went on a 4-0 run over nearly 14 minutes to push out to a 5-1 lead. The teams traded goals over the final 12 minutes of the half as the Cardinal took a 7-4 lead into the lockerroom. It took more than 10 minutes for either team to get on the board coming out of the half and it was Stanford that finally broke through with 19:28 remaining in the game, scoring back-to-back goals in a two-minute span to take a 9-4 lead. Hopkins responded with a 3-1 run but could get no closer than the final 10-7 score. Series History: Sunday s game is the 16th meeting between these two Baltimore rivals, with Hopkins leading the series 9-6. The series has been a tale of two halves so to speak. Towson won the first five meetings and six of the first seven from 1976 to Since then, it has been all Hopkins as the Blue Jays have won eight straight in the series, including a win over the then-unbeaten Tigers last March at Homewood. When Last We Met: Johns Hopkins got goals from seven different players, led by senior Kirby Houck s hat trick as the Blue Jays handed the previously unbeaten Tigers their first loss of the season, Towson jumped on top early, scoring back-to-back goals to open the game. But Hopkins offense went to work, scoring six unanswered over an 18-minute span to push out to a 6-2 lead. Towson got back on the board with 6:40 left in the half to cut the deficit to three, but Hopkins got one back with just 12 ticks on the clock, taking a 7-3 lead into the lockerroom. The teams traded two-goal runs in the second half as the Tigers outscored the Blue Jays 7-5 in the second stanza. But Hopkins four-goal half time lead was too much to overcome. Its Been Awhile: When Johns Hopkins and Stanford last met on the lacrosse field, none of the players that played in Friday s game had yet to attend high school. The Blue Jays and the Cardinal had last met nine years ago, on March 22, 2000 at. You Look Familiar: Assistant coach Jen Kasper squared off against a lot of familiar faces on Friday afternoon as she took on her old team. Kasper came to Johns Hopkins this fall after a oneyear stint with the Cardinal. A 2007 graduate of UMBC, she joined the Stanford staff in August as an assistant and was promoted to co-head coach early in the 2008 season. Kasper helped the Cardinal to a 12-8 record and a fourth straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament title. Extra Lacrosse: Johns Hopkins and George Washington treated fans to some extra lacrosse on March 19 as the two teams needed overtime to decide a winner. Hopkins rallied from a 9-4 deficit in the second half to take an 11-9 lead. Series Record: JHU leads, 9-6 Lately: JHU has won eight straight Last Meeting: JHU-12, TU-10 on March 12, 2008 in Baltimore, MD Last JHU win: Same Last Towson win: TU-9, JHU-8 on April 26, 2000 in Baltimore, MD Fast Fact: Hopkins is 8-1 against Towson since the Blue Jays move to Division I Johns Hopkins vs. the Opposition The following is a compilation of Johns Hopkins record versus its 2009 opponents Opponent Record (Streak) Last Meeting Cincinnati (W2)...JHU-18, UC-9 ( ) Fresno State...First Meeting George Mason (W1)...JHU-15, GMU-10 ( ) George Washington (W7)..JHU-13, GWU-12 (2OT) ( ) Georgetown (L4)...GU-11, JHU-6 ( ) Maryland (L10)...UM-16, JHU-8 ( ) Northwestern (L6)...
