There will be a Junior High camp for boys in the 7th-9th grades and for girls grade 7 and higher. A High School/College camp will be for grades and for all BYU hockey team rookies. Cost: $ non-housing (includes lunch); $ with housing (includes meals). Please visit for more information. University of Utah Utah State University Tryouts for the Aggies for the season will take place at the Eccles Ice Arena in Logan on Friday, May 6th at 8:15 pm and Saturday, May 7 at 9:15 am. Utah Amateur Hockey Association Board meeting for the Association will be May 2 at the Maverick Center, Grizzlies Conference room, starting at 7:00 pm. Utah lost a great supporter of hockey in Art Teece, former co-owner of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey team, who passed away this past Tuesday. He was 98. The Eagles won 5 championships in two leagues in the 70 s and 80 s. A memorial service is planned for May 9 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City.
3 TRAVEL TEAM ORGANIZATIONS Davis County Wind (Pee Wees & Bantams); Golden Eagles (Midgets) Tier 2 level programs for Midget, Bantam and Pee Wee players Congratulations to the Davis County Wind teams which participated in the Iron Cup Tournament. The Squirts took 4th, Pee Wees 2nd and Bantams took 1st. Golden Spike Jr. Wildcats Tier 2 level programs for Midget, Bantam and Pee Wee players NW Regulators Tier 1 and Tier 2 level programs for Midget players 18 and under and 16 and under; Bantam players 14 and under; Pee Wee players 12 and under The Regulators will be running a Spring High School Camp May 13 and 14 at the Utah Olympic Oval Cost: $ Please visit website for specific ice times and registration information. The Utah Regulators Development Camp will run July 5-9 and August 8-12 at the Olympic Oval. Cost: $ for one week or $ for both weeks. Please visit website for specific times and registration information. The SLC Goalie Academy will be June at the Olympic Oval for goalies ages 9 to adult. This is an all-day camp from 9:00 am 6:45 pm. Cost: $ if registered before May 20 and $ if registered after. Camp includes 3 hours on-ice and 2 hours off-ice daily. Visit website for more information. The new Elite Summer Hockey League for players will run May through July. This is for elite players. There will be 4 practices and 12 games. Utah Jr. Grizzlies.(aka WMAHA) Tier 2 level programs for Midget players 16 and under; Bantam players 14 and under and Pee Wee players 12 and under Tryouts for the Jr. Grizzlie s top Tier 2 teams will be held June at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex. Those players not selected for the Select teams will be invited back on June 18 for additional teams in each division at no additional cost. A couple of individuals have been selected as head coaches for the season. Jon Solomon will again head up the U14 Bantam Select team and Daryl Olsen will take charge of the U16 Midgets. Park City Predators Salt Lake Black Diamonds The Black Diamonds took 2nd place in the B Division of the Wasatch Wings Ice Breaker Tournament held April 8-10 at the Ice Sheet in Ogden. Congratulations ladies! Four members of the Black Diamonds were members of the Utah Thunder which played for the Senior C National Championship in Detroit in April. With the help of these four ladies Erin Gould, Sara Wack, Shannon Asmus and Kate Hendrickson the Thunder won the National Championship. 5 ADULT HOCKEY LEAGUES Park City Hockey League Spring League has started and will continue to June 19, 21 or 30 depending on the division. Levels will be at A/B, B/C and C/D/Development levels. Please visit website for specific information regarding team set-up, registration and costs. Olympic Oval League Adult Summer League will take 30 teams. There is a $1, non-refundable deposit to reserve a spot for your team. Pre-season games begin late April/early May. Team fee is $3, Visit website for details. 6 NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE LOCAL PLAYERS MOVING UP Trevor Lewis, a Utah native out of Murray, was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2006 has earned a roster spot on the Kings this season. Trevor played on local travel teams before moving to Colorado to play for the Midget AAA Pikes Peak Miners. After the Miners, Trevor moved on to the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League and then a year of major junior before getting drafted in the first round. COLLEGE NCAA Mike Bernardy is a senior at St. Norbert College, DePere, WI. In 2010 and 2011 was selected All- League (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association). Was also recognized as top +/- player on the Knights during the season. Zach Hale is playing for the Bengals of Buffalo State University, a member of the SUNYAC. Chris Jung, formerly of the NW Regulators organization, is in his sophomore season in 2010 at Fredonia State College in New York.. Matt McNamee is playing for the Red Dragons of Cortland SUNY (State University of New York) in JUNIOR A Tier 2 Alex Halloran, a former NW Regulators, is in his 2nd season of Jr. A hockey with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League. He has recently committed to play NCAA Div. 1 college hockey for the Falcons of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Cooper Limb is playing for the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Chase McDonald is playing for the Austin Bruins of the Jr. A North American Hockey League and his old Chadder s Midget AAA coach, Adam Kostichka. Henry Vadnais is playing for the Dryden Ice Dogs of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Keil Zornow, a former Utah Jr. Grizzlie, is playing for the Wichita Wildcats of the North American Hockey League. JUNIOR A Tier 3 David Higgs is playing for the Boulder Bison out of Boulder, CO. The Bison are members of the Western States Hockey League. Brother Gary was traded to the Valencia Flyers of the WSHL. Kyle Becker, a product of the Cache Valley Amateur Hockey Association, is playing for the perennial powerhouse Bozeman Ice Dogs in Bozeman, MT. The Ice Dogs are members of the Northern Pacific Hockey League, aka Nor-Pac. JUNIOR B Dean Wilson is playing for the Squamish Wolf Pack in Squamish, British Columbia, a team in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League, one of three Jr. B leagues in B.C. Bantam AAA/Midget AAA Tier 1 Ryan Solomon is playing for the U14 Bantam AAA Pikes Peak Miners out of Colorado Springs, CO Ryan was selected to the 14U All PHL (Prospects Hockey Leauge0 2nd team this past season. Gus Wollenzien and Nash Worden are playing for the Pikes Peak U16 Midget AAA team. Jed Howard, a former Utah Jr. Grizzlie is playing for the Pikes Peak Miners Midget AAA U18 team. Collin Bitter, is playing for the U14 Bantam Rocky Mountain Roughriders in Colorado.
