Most recently, Moscato served as Canada s starting center back during all six matches of the 2012 Summer Olympics, playing a vital role in her native country earning its first-ever medal in Olympic competition. After placing eighth during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Moscato guided the Canadian women s national team to a third-place finish in London after defeating France, 1-0 and falling one-goal short of tying the U.S. for an eventual spot in the gold-medal game. BY the numbers Paula Wilkins owns a 21-9 NCAA Tournament record, including a 70.0 win percentage. 10 The Badgers recorded six shutouts with five resulting in victories. X X Wisconsin held a season-best fivematch win streak, rallying the team to 5 earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Badgers have eclipsed the 10-win plateau for the fourthconsecutive season and the seventh time in the last 10 years. X X UW appeared in the NCAA 3 Tournament for the third time in four years under Paula Wilkins. X X Wisconsin s five-goal barrage against 6 South Dakota State is not out of the norm for the Wilkins bunch. During four of Wilkins six seasons as head coach, the Badgers have knotted five or more goals in at least one match. Consistent kinley Paula Wilkins freshmen class, led by starting midfielder Kinley McNicoll, gave the Badgers a much-needed boost this season. Wilkins started four freshmen and McNicoll, an Ontario native, emerged as the leader of the talented bunch. McNicoll finished the season fourth among all Badgers in points (12) and has shown flashes of experience and grit only seen in someone who has redshirted or is nearing the end of their four-year career. The freshman has shown aggressiveness, ranking third on UW in shots (36) but has also displayed her unselfishness, notching only 14 shots on goal and tallying a team-best six assists this season. HOME sweet home Wisconsin s fast start was due in large part to its friendly nonconference schedule, which included three-straight home games to kick off the season for the first time since The Badgers finished their regular season at the McClimon Soccer Complex this season, a feat UW has not accomplished since Wisconsin finished its last two home games of the season 2-0, including a double-ot win against Illinois. Party likes it s 1989 For the first time in over two decades, the Badgers defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, knocking off the 2010 NCAA National Champions, 1-0, to open the 2012 season. Wisconsin previously recorded its one and only victory over Notre Dame on Sept. 9, 1989, in South Bend, Ind. Friday, Aug. 17, UW got a late goal from senior Monica Lam-Feist in the 84th minute, securing the win for the Badgers, which was just their second all-time against Notre Dame. In her first start in net since the graduation of All-Big Ten GK Michele Dalton, Lauren Gunderson recorded a career-high seven saves, as Notre Dame outshot Wisconsin 12-8 and earned three more corner kick opportunities than the Badgers. Prior to the Aug. 17 match, the closest the Badgers have come to defeating the Fighting Irish is in 2001, when the teams played to a 2-2 double-ot draw in South Bend. Canadian connection Among all 26 members of the 2012 Wisconsin women s soccer team, five states are represented, with the state of Wisconsin garnering the most players. Five Badgers hail from Canada, including three starters. Senior Monica Lam-Feist (Surrey, British Columbia), juniors Paige Adams (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Genevieve Richard (Saint-Bruno, Quebec), as well as sophomore Kodee Williams (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman Kinley McNicoll (Oakville, Ontario), are all Canadians by birth. The Canadians, excluding Richard who is a GK, have played instrumental roles in the Badgers offensive success this season. During the 2012 season, the four scored a combined 18 goals and recorded 16 assists, tallying 52 of the team s 107 total points. Genevieve Richard made her mark in the net during Big Ten conference play, garnering a.794 save percentage. Richard recorded a career high 6 saves twice this season in the overtime matches against Ohio State and Illinois.

Wilkins guided UW to the NCAA Tournament in 2010, the school s best finish in 15 years, after reaching the third round of the NCAA tournament in just her third season with the program. In her second season, UW finished with a record finishing the season at.500, and narrowly missed a berth into the Big Ten Tournament. In her first season Wilkins led the Badgers to a record, marking a three-game improvement overall and a one-game improvement in the Big Ten from 2007 to Following the conclusion of her first season Wilkins scored one of the top recruiting classes for 2008, ranking 21st in the nation and marking the highest ranking in UW history. In her first recruiting class, two were named to the 2008 Big Ten All- Freshman Team, Laurie Nosbusch and Erin Jacobsen. Wilkins has compiled a remarkable (.732) record in her 10 seasons as a head coach. Prior to her start at Wisconsin, Wilkins was the head coach at Penn State for six years. The Nittany Lions earned six NCAA tournament berths, which included two College Cup appearances during her tenure. In addition, Penn State won the last six Big Ten regular season championships, along with a pair of Big Ten tournament titles. Penn State dominated Big Ten women s soccer for most of the 13 seasons of the school s sponsorship of the sport and Wilkins was part of the coaching staff the entire time. She joined the Nittany Lions as an assistant coach when the program debuted as a varsity sport in 1994 and served in that role until she was named head coach at the end of the 2000 campaign. Wilkins coached nine All-Americans at Penn State, including four-time All-American Christie Welsh, the 2001 player of the year and winner of the prestigious M.A.C. Hermann Trophy. Wilkins also recruited and guided Tiffany Weimer, a three-time All- American, two-time Big Ten offensive player of the year and the conference s record holder in career goals.
