The Blue Jays are looing to snap a two-game losing streak after last Friday night s loss to Gettysburg, while Moravian is looking for its first 4-0 start since 2004 as the Greyhounds moved to 3-0 with a win against Lebanon Valley last Saturday. About the Coaches: Jim Margraff is now in his 18th season as the head coach at Johns Hopkins and carries a (.622) record into this week s game against Moravian. The all-time winningest coach in school history, Margraff has guided the Blue Jays to four Centennial Conference Championships, three ECAC titles and one appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. In addition to his overall totals, he also ranks among the all-time winningest coaches in the history of the Centennial Conference as he sports a (.614) record in league play. Scott Dapp has led the Greyhounds to a 3-0 start and became Moravian s all-time winningest coach with a win over McDaniel on September 8. Dapp now sports a (.596) record since taking over at Moravian prior to the 1987 season. He guided the Hounds to 11 consecutive winning seasons to open his tenure in Bethlehem and led Moravian to ECAC Championship games in 2002, 2004 and 2005 with a victory in the 2005 ECAC Southwest title game. Second of Three Straight at Home: Today s game is the third of three straight games the Blue Jays will play at Homewood Field. The last time Hopkins played three straight regular-season games at home was early in the 2002 season, when JHU knocked off Rochester, Carnegie Mellon and Gettysburg in successive weeks. Prior to that, the last time JHU had played three straight at home was in 1979, when the Blue Jays ended the year with three straight at Homewood. The 1979 team was led by a sophomore quarterback named Jim Margraff. September Reign: Despite the loss against Gettysburg last Friday, the Blue Jays still sport a 21-7 record in the month of September since the start of the 2000 season and a mark since the start of the 1995 season. Home Sweet Home: Since the beginning of the 1996 season Johns Hopkins is (.729) at home and has twice enjoyed 10-game winning streaks at Homewood Field during that time. Streaking: Since the start of the 2002 season the Blue Jays sport a (.737) record. Taking it back further the Blue Jays are (.727) since the start of the 2001 season and (.697) since the begininng of the 2000 season. The 53 wins the Blue Jays have amassed this decade are already just two shy of the school record for wins in a decade (55/1990s). Series History: Johns Hopkins and the Centennial Conference welcome two new members to the league this season in Moravian and Juniata. The Blue Jays have played Juniata just once (1929), but had an eight-game series with the Greyhounds from when both teams competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Moravian leads the all-time series 5-3, having won the first three games by lopsided margins before the Blue Jays reponded with wins in three of the next four. Moravian won the last meeting, 17-7, on Octobet 9, Spearheading the Blue Jays in their three wins was current JHU head coach, Jim Margraff, who was the starting quarterback at Homewood from and was at teh helm for each of JHU s three wins over the Greyhounds. Margraff s 328-yard effort in a victory in 1978 was the first 300-yard passing game in school history and remains tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in school history. 2 Moravian (3-0) at Johns Hopkins (1-2) / 2 Head Coach Jim Margraff Johns Hopkins is coached by Jim Margraff (JHU 82), who in now in his 18th season as the head coach at Homewood. Margraff is the all-time winningest coach in school history as he sports an overall record of (.622). He picked up career win number 100 with a 14-0 victory over Gettysburg ( ). The 2005 season saw Margraff lead the Blue Jays to several firsts, including the program s firstever outright Centennial Conference Championship and first-ever NCAA Playoff appearance. JHU finished with an 8-3 record, marking the fourth straight season JHU has won eight or more games. Prior to this four-year run JHU had never won more than seven games in a season. Margraff guided the Blue Jays to a then school-record-tying seven wins in 1996, 1997 and 1998 before leading the Blue Jays to their first-ever post-season appearance (and victory), first-ever Centennial Conference title and a school-record nine wins in He topped that in 2003 as JHU posted a 10-1 record with Centennial and ECAC South Atlantic Championships before leading JHU to a 9-2 record and Centennial and ECAC Southeast titles in Margraff s.622 winning percentage is second among JHU coaches who have coached 30 or more games and the Blue Jays are (.671) since Margraff s Resurrection: Since taking over as the head coach prior to the 1990 season, Jim Margraff has guided JHU to 12 winning seasons and 108 wins. The two touchdowns were the first surrendered in the first quarter by Johns Hopkins since the second game of the 2006 season, when Randolph-Macon scored a pair as well. The Blue Jays had gone 10 full games without allowing a touchdown in the first quarter and actually entered the 2007 season with a streak of eight straight games without allowing a point in the first quarter. Hampden-Sydney got a field goal in the first quarter to snap that streak. Comeback Kids: The win at Hampden-Sydney was the latest in a long line of comebacks for the Blue Jays. JHU has 10 come-from-behind wins to its credit since the start of the 2004 season. The Blue Jays posted an amazing six come-from-behind wins in 2004 and two more in Randolph-Macon s 14-0 lead last season was the largest overcome by the Blue Jays since JHU came back from a 14-0 deficit to knock off Ursinus, 20-14, on October 30, Block Party: Johns Hopkins blocked exactly three kicks in the first nine games of the 2006 season, but in the last four games (vs. McDaniel last season and the first three this season), the Blue Jays have come up with five blocked kicks. The latest of these came late in the second quarter against Randolph- Macon, when senior Chris DiForte slipped through the middle of the line and blocked an extra point. Senior co-captain Dan Requena scooped up the loose ball and raced 85 yards for a two-point defensive extra point that gave JHU a 9-8 lead at the half. Shutouts: Johns Hopkins has posted 14 shutouts in 17+ seasons under head coach Jim Margraff and the two in 2005 mark the fourth time in the Margraff era that JHU has posted two or more shutouts in one year (1992 (2), 1996 (2), 2003 (3), 2005 (2)). The Blue Jays posted 11 shutouts in the 20 seasons prior to Margraff s arrival. Seven s Heaven: Since the beginning of the 2003 season the Blue Jays are 33-8 when scoring more than seven points and 0-5 when they have been held to seven points or less. Keys to Success: Johns Hopkins is an impressive 64-4 (.941) under head coach Jim Margraff when scoring 24 or more points...the Blue Jays have won 51 of their last 53 when scoring 24 or more...at the same time, Hopkins is (.878) when holding the opposition to 14 points or less under Margraff... the Blue Jays have won 45 of their last 47 games when holding the opposition to 14 points or less. It s All Academic: Johns Hopkins has earned 23 Academic All-District selections since JHU s 23 selections in that time are more than the other CC football-playing schools combined. Hopkins Football Celebrating a Pair of Anniversaries The Johns Hopkins football team will celebrate a pair of anniversaries during the 2007 season. The program itself will celebrate its 125th anniversary as the program was originally founded and played its first game in In addition, the Blue Jays will be playing on Homewood Field for the 100th year as the historic facility played host to its first game in To celebrate these two anniversaries the team has added a patch and a sticker to its uniforms for the 2007 season. A commemorative patch celebrating the 100th anniversary of Homewood Field will be worn on the team s home uniforms, while a special sticker commemorating the 125th anniversary of the program will be worn on the team s helmets. The Johns Hopkins men s and women s lacrosse teams wore the patch commemorating the 100th anniversary of Homewood Field last spring, while the men s and women s soccer and field hockey teams will also wear them this fall.

3 Moravian (3-0) at Johns Hopkins (1-2) / 3 Scouting the Greyhounds Moravian makes its first trip to Homewood Field since October 10, 1981 as the Greyhounds continue their first season of competition in the Centennial Conferece. Picked to finish fourth in the CC s preseason coaches poll, the Hounds are off to a 3-0 start and have appear to have the solid all-around team it takes to compete for a championship. Head coach Scott Dapp s squad is one of the most balanced in the league as Moravian is currently one of just two teams averaging over 170 yards rushing and passing. Directing the high-scoring offense is junior Marc Braxmeier, who is currently the top-rated quarterback in the league with an off-the-charts rating of He has thrown for 524 yards and seven touchdowns against just two interceptions on 51 attempts. Braxmeier s favorite target is senior tight end Kris Bisci, who has a team-high nine receptions for 149 yards and caught the game-winning touchdown pass in last week s win over Lebanon Valley. Senior Sean Hill has eight catches on the year and three of those have gone for touchdowns. Junior Tyler McCambridge leads a bruising running game that is averaging just over 184 yards per game as he ranks second in the league in rushing (108.3) and first in all-purpose yards (179.7). Moravian gave up 27 points in a season-opening win at Susquehanna, but has allowed just 32 points combined in the last two games. Junior linebackers Kevin McGorry and Andrew Morrissey lead the way defensively as McGorry leads the team in tackles (23) and tackles for losses (4.5), while Morrissey is just behind him with 21 tackles in three games. The opportunistic Moravian defense has forced a league-high 10 turnovers in three games and has scored a touchdown in each of the last two games. The unit also gets off the field on third down as the opposition is just 10-of-39 (.256) on third downs. Schedule/Results Aug.
