MU, which is off to its best start in over a decade, hopes to avenge last year s 2-1 season-opening loss at UIC, when they were without seniors Calum Mallace and Michael Alfano. Redshirt freshman Axel Sjoberg s first career goal was MU s only score of the match. Marquette Golden Eagles (2-0-0, BIG EAST) Marquette opened the campaign unscathed with a record for the first time since the 2000 season. Sebastian Jansson scored as time expired to lift MU to a thrilling 3-2 win over UWM in front of nearly 2,000 fans at Valley Fields last Friday. The Golden Eagles, who also got goals from Bryan Ciesiulka and Adam Lysak, came from behind twice to level the match before Jansson's volley in the 90th minute earned MU the right to hoist the Milwaukee Cup trophy. Defender Eric Pothast, who assisted on Jansson's game-winner, scored the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 shutout over Green Bay on Sunday, while goalkeeper Charlie Lyon record his first career shutout. MU's victory snapped an eight-game home field winning streak for the Phoenix. UIC Flames (1-1-0, Horizon League) The Flames are coming off a 2-0 shutout at Ohio State following a 2-1 loss at DePaul to begin the campaign. UIC is led by 2011 Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year Ivan Stanisavljevic who found the back of the net in each of UIC s first two games. Live Audio Streaming Not Available Friday Friday s match vs. UIC will not be broadcast by WMUR Marquette Radio as the station will be broadcasting the MU women s soccer match at Northwestern. Live action on WMUR will resume with Sunday s away game at Drake (2 p.m.). Golden Eagles Perfect Start Garners National Recognition Marquette climbed one spot to No. 32 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings following a perfect start to the 2012 season. MU is also ranked No. 4 this week in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region and currently receiving votes in the both the NSCAA/Continental Tires and College Soccer News national polls. Pothast Earns Multiple Weekly Accolades Eric Pothast was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll in addition to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week and College Sports Madness BIG EAST Player of the Week. He assisted teammate Sebastian Jansson on the Golden Eagles' game-winning goal as time expired Friday to down the Milwaukee Panthers, 3-2. The MU co-captain then scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win at Green Bay on Sunday. Goals Have Come by Committee In 2012 Each of Marquette s four goals this season have come from a different player, proving that the Golden Eagles can be versatile in the attacking third. Bryan Ciesiulka scored the first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the second half vs. Milwaukee, followed by goals from Adam Lysak and Sebastian Jansson.
