Harris County 4-H would like to hear from our 4-H Members and Clubs. Send us a photo to post on facebook and a short sentence or two to share your 4-H stories. Don t forget to think about getting your 4-H Recordbook submitted too! ( Due June 7 th ) County 4-H Recordbook Contest New & Improved Texas 4-H Recordkeeping System Entry Deadline: June 7th Don t procrastinate, plan to participate! This year the 4-H Recordkeeping System for recordbooks has a new format and simplified forms for Junior and Intermediate age level members. There are new resources online to guide you through the process including a Family Guide to the Texas 4-H Recordbooks, the new 4-H REPORT guide to the online record-keeping system and video tutorials. County Recordbooks are due June 7th so why are we sending this information to you now?? This new system is a journal tracking system of project work, leadership, and community service. You will need to keep track of your 4-H experience if you plan to participate. Go to for the resources. 4-H Gold Star Award & Other Awards Are you an active 4-H teen member who is deserving of the 4-H Gold Star Award? The Gold Star Award is the highest award a 4-Her may achieve in Texas. It is awarded at the county level during the Harris County 4-H Awards Program in August. This award is given each year to outstanding 4-Hers based on their total 4-H careers project work, leadership, community service. A copy of the guidelines and application are on our Extension website to review and to print. Applications are due in the County 4-H Office June 7, Interviews will be conducted during the day on Friday, June 21st at 9am at the Extension Office. Interview times will be arranged with each 4-H applicant. The assistance of club managers and parents is needed to recruit qualified applicants for the Gold Star Award. Sometimes, our 4-Hers are unaware of this top achievement, so your help is needed to inform them and to encourage them to apply. This award is a MUST for anyone who wants to try for a 4-H scholarship. The 4-H Gold Star Award carries the same prestige as the Boy Scout Eagle Award. The award is being publicized now, because most of our 4-H clubs take vacation from business meetings during the Summer. Hopefully, you will have time before your club s last meeting of the year to reach your 4-Hers with this information. Some of the requirements for the awards are as follows: Gold Star Award & I Dare You Award 15 years of age as of August 31st of the current 4-H year and must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H including the current year. Silver Star Award 11 to 13 years old as of August 31st of the current 4-H year Bronze Award 8-10 years old as of August 31st of the current 4-H year 2
