2 Page 2 WC 4-H March Newsletter Missing School for a 4-H Event?? Please Read! 4-H ers should complete a separate form for each competitive event/activity in which they plan to participate. The original form should be returned to the county Extension office 2weeks prior to the event/activity. NOTE: Schools requiring a copy of this form should make their copy before returning it to the student. Parent/Guardian Section Parent/Guardian will select the information being requested. It is either: Academic eligibility information only. (Used to verify academic eligibility only for 4-H competitive events/activities.), or Academic eligibility information and authorization to receive an excused absence from school. (Used to verify academic eligibility as well as receive authorization to receive an excused absence. This would be used for events held during school hours such as stock shows, state and national 4H contests and events, etc.) Complete the date of activity and name of activity. (Used to notify school officials of exact dates/times a student would be participating in a 4-H activity or representing 4-H at an event.) Parent/Guardian signature is required. The signature of the parent/guardian confirms that this person is aware of the academic eligibility and excused absence requirements of the Texas Education Code. County Extension Agent Section Extension Office will complete this section and certify the youth is a 4-H member and his/her participation in the event. County Extension Agent (with adjunct faculty status) will sign the form. Extension Office will then forward forms onto the school for approval. Forms can be obtained at the CEO or on our website: The Williamson County 4-H County Council will meet on March 6, 2018 from 6:30 8:00pm in the County Extension Office Conference Room. Remember the council delegate and the president of the club are the two representatives from your club who come to the meetings and are voting delegates for the club. All 4 -H members are welcome though! We will discuss fundraisers, and other county wide events. It will be a lot of fun and there will be snacks and drinks, so come and learn about the county 4-H program and vote on exciting new 4-H opportunities. Community Service for this month will be collecting care packages for Veterans. Bring cookies, granola bars, drinks, gum, etc.. For the care packages.

3 WC 4-H March Newsletter Page 3 Williamson County Welcomes Intern Tara Lawrence Ms. Lawrence will be serving as the Agrilife Extension Service Intern un l May. Tara a ended Georgetown High School where she showed goats and lambs and competed on various judging teams through FFA. She currently a ends Tarleton State University and will graduate in May with a bachelors degree in Agriculture Industries and Agencies. She plans to pursue a masters degree in agriculture as well. Tara will be a ending stock shows and 4 H events with Cassie and Jared! WELCOME! SENIORS Its that me of the year to start applying for scholarships!!!! 15 WC 4-H March Newsletter Page 15 Livestock 50 youth are chosen to par cipate in rigorous college level animal science curriculum. Livestock Ambassadors are required to commit at least 40 hours of service annually. Ambassadors conduct educa onal livestock project clinics, speak to civic groups, assist with livestock shows, and advocate for livestock and agriculture across Texas. Equine Ambassadors are prepared to teach other youth and adults the skills of being good stewards, producers, and exhibitors of horses. Water 2 High School Youth from each of the TX Regional Water Planning Areas are selected to par cipate in a summer 4 H2O Youth Leadership Academy & commit service hours annually in a variety of ways. In year one those chosen will par cipate in a summer training. They will be judged in Fashion Show first, then compete in Duds to Dazzle. Deadlines: All entries will be completed on 4-H Connect at Opens: Monday, March 5, 2018 ~Closes: Friday, March 23, 2018 Senior Paperwork: Paperwork for Senior Fashion Show (Buying, Construction, Natural Fiber) must be uploaded on 4-H Connect by the deadline. Senior paperwork judging will be conducted remotely. It is scheduled for judging to take place between Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, April 5. Junior and Intermediate Paperwork: Paperwork for Junior and Intermediate Fashion Show participants will not be judged prior to the day of the Fashion Show. Participants will bring two copies of their paperwork with them to the contest. Entry Fee: $10 per 4-H member per event Late Entries: Late entries will be permitted with an additional $20 late fee per 4-H member 48 hours after the regular contest deadline. Entries received after the 48-hour deadline will require an additional $50 late fee per member.

Each camp is an intense, all inclusive, five day experience led by some of the top wildlife and natural resource professionals in Texas Camp Dates and Locations are: Rolling Plains Bobwhite Brigade, Centennial Lodge, Coleman, June 2-6. South Texas Buckskin Brigade, Welder Wildlife Refuge, Sinton, June South Texas Bobwhite Brigade, Buck Horn Creek Ranch, McCoy, June Bass Brigade, Warren Ranch, Santa Anna, July Ranch Brigade, Warren Ranch, Santa Anna, July Coastal Brigade, Sea Star Base, Galveston, July North Texas Buckskin Brigade, Warren Ranch, Santa Anna, July Applications may be found and completed online at due March 15 th.
