2 The Steak Cookoff Association is dedicated to building the sport of steak cookoffs and is the only sanctioning body focused exclusively on grilling. All SCA events are run to the same high standard that the teams have come to expect, the SCA requires all promoters to agree to deliver an event that meets these minimum standards. As a Promoter you are responsible for the infrastructure and safety of all teams at your event. SCA will provide systems, processes, entry of the scores, judge training, rules and final results and will proactively help you to market your event to a worldwide audience through its substantial social media and web based platforms.

3 SCA Statistics Projected 2018 events will be 150 domestic and 20 International events Events in Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Australia, The Bahamas, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and the US. Our events attracted competitive teams per event with crowds ranging from 1,000 to 25,000 spectators. Average number of teams competing in SCA's 2017 events was 38 teams per event. SCA Competition Winners have ranged in age from 4 yrs to 82 yrs old. Teams made up of men, women, coworkers, friends, family and neighbors. SCA awards prize money typically for $1,000 for 1st place down to $100 for 10th place. (Average total payout is $3,250.00) Prize amounts are determined by the promoters. Our social media sites had over 12,000 followers that produced over 900,000 impressions. According to a CNN poll 75% of American households own a grill of some type SCA Projected Event Locations

4 SCA EVENT TIMELINES SCA timelines are flexible to accommodate other parts of any festival or event. SCA does require certain amounts of time that are between specific turn in times and will be happy to discuss you particular event's timelines and concerns. The promoter ultimately decides the timeline with the guidance of SCA. Friday Evening Jackpot Events 5pm Cooks Meeting 7:30-8 Steak Turn-in 9pm Awards These events are a perfect add on to any existing BBQ cookoff. It gives the teams a competitive opportunity on Friday night, gets them out of their motorhomes, and sends 3-10 people home with some cash. The winner of these events also recieves an invitation to the SCA World Championship. One Day Events One day events allow teams to have the thrill of competition cooking without being gone for days. Most teams will travel to an event and stay in a local hotel on Friday night, creating an economic impact in the area. Stand Alone Event 10am Cooks Meeting 1-1:15 Ancillary Turn-in 2-2:30 Steak Turn-in 4pm Awards Stand Alone events pair great with any festival, carnival or fundraising opportunity. This is our most popular type of event. All winners of this type of event receives an invitation to the SCA World Championship.

5 COOKOFF OPTIONS Ribeye Steaks The most popular steak in the country is a ribeye and it is the anchor of all SCA events. All SCA events are required to maintain the same standard of a 1 ⅛ Boneless Choice Ribeye. The steaks are provided by the event promoter, leveling the competitive playing field. Why add Ancillary Categories? Ancillary categories give teams something to do during the day and another chance to be recognized or win prize money. Ancillary categories get the entire family involved with the team. Ancillaries allow promoters to attract new sponsors to supply, donate or highlight their product in a category. Examples of this are a competition featuring a certain brand of Bacon or Sausage that the teams must use in their entry, promoting the sponsor and bringing in revenue. 6 TYPICAL PAYOUTS Ways to Locate Sponsors SCA events are family oriented and sponsors are always looking for ways to support their communities. Involve a local charity (People are more likely to donate) Use a local butcher for the steak (trade out for sponsorship) Have a local business sponsor the ancillary category Local Grocery store are great potential steak sponsors Four $250 sponsors are much easier to get that $1000 sponsors SCA corporate sponsors make decisions at the beginning of the year on added money events. Make sure to sign up early to be eligible for that added money possibility. SCA can advise you on payouts to best fit your event.

7 Promoter Responsibilities The promoter is the host for the event, person that stands to make money and the person responsible for the event. SCA sanctions the event, advises the promoter, assists in bringing in teams and runs the judging tent for the promoter. To choose event date, location, ancillary categories, payouts and entry fees. Promoter assumes all responsibility for paying guaranteed payouts. SCA is not responsible for prize payouts To market and promote the event in the community and social media. Promoters may promote the event on the SCA Group page at anytime. To provide the competition steaks, prize money and trophies for the event. To provide a minimum of 10x12 space for each team. To provide an all weather judging area with good lighting and tables & chairs. To provide area to do awards ceremony with PA. To provide door to door travel & accommodations for the SCA Representatives that will be coordinating you steak cookoff. Table judges do not get paid to judge the event. To provide 3-4 volunteers to help in the judging area. (Important) an assistant may be brought to help for an additional $100 fee. To agree to pay the SCA event Fees and SCA Representatives Fees. To provide supplies for judging area (Trays, Forks, Knives, Paper Towels, Oyster Crackers, Water, Etc). Events up to 49 will require 1 SCA Rep, events over 50 teams will require 2 SCA Reps. If an event reaches 100 teams a third SCA Rep will be required. In the event of cancellation by the contest organizer, all previously paid expenses shall be non-refundable. The contest organizer will also reimburse the SCA Representative(s) any prepaid expenses incurred by them which cannot be recouped.

8 SCA Sanctioning Fees Total EVENT COSTS The SCA sanction fee is $300 per event and $5 per team fee. If proceeds are accepted on the SCA website there is a fee of 3%. SCA Representative Fees Total The SCA representative that coordinates the event is paid $200 plus the cost of travel to the event and accommodations if necessary (mileage is figured at current government mandated rate). SCA will use the SCA Representative that is closest to your event when possible. Promoters may request a rep if they have a favorite. SCA Certified Judges do not get paid to judge the event. Events up to 49 will require 1 SCA Rep, events over 50 teams will require 2 SCA Reps. If an event reaches 100 teams a third SCA Rep will be required. Cost of Steaks and Trophies The steaks for each event are provided by the promoter of the event. Each team is provided two 1 1/8" boneless Choice Ribeyes for the competition. There should be 10 extra ribeyes for the steak selection process. The trophies for SCA events are provided by the promoter. We do have special pricing worked out with Steel Images They do most of SCA's trophies and are reasonably priced.

9 OTHER INFO Become a Super Qualifier All SCA events are qualifiers for the SCA World Championship. Events may chose to be a Super Qualifier by offering a paid entry into the SCA World Championship for the qualifier form their event. The cost of this is $300 and should draw more teams to your event. Host a SCA Certified Judges Class If there is a need in your area and we can draw 20 people there is no charge to do a SCA Certified Judges class. The promoter can even make $10 per person in the class for allowing SCA to do the class. All SCA would need is a space to do the class and some tables and chairs. Additional Revenue Streams Most of the events revenue comes from entry fees. Ask the hotel and tourism bureaus in town to sponsor the event, filling hotel rooms and boosting the local economy. Raffle off a grill, smoker or ice chest. Add a car or craft show to your event. Sell vending spots at the event. Bring in food trucks to the event and make a percentage of their sales. Pre-sell steak dinners to the public and the teams will cook the steaks. Sell steak tasting bands and do a people choice competition. Create a special challenge between organizations suh as the police and fire departments.
