2 47 th Keepit Kool 2015 Despite the low dam water level, local and visiting sailors competed in another very successful Keepit Kool Regatta. Staged in glorious sunshine with light breezes made sailing very enjoyable. Lake Macquarie sailors dominated in all divisions with overall winner being Justin Mitchell from Toronto sailing a Laser borrowed from the Keepit Club. Debbie and Glen Nolan from Speers Point came first in the Trailer Sailer division sailing a Hartley 16. Peter and Tegan Scott from Belmont 16 Footers came first in the Monohull division sailing a 16 skiff. Safety Boat Course at Keepit 29th and 30th May John Sumner, Wendy Barwick, Bob O Brien, Max Dickson, Kevin Overton and Ian Pine Page 2 of 5
3 Clearing of tree stump hazards Lake Keepit Sailing Club has been successful in convincing Roads and Maritime Services of the need to remove and relocate some 300 stumps that have posed a serious safety hazard as the water level varies. Page 3 of 5
4 Bay to Bay 2015 Two boats from Keepit: Hey Jude (Stan and Grayem White, and Rob Cull) and Wagtail (Ian and Lyn Pine) sailed in the 35 th Race from Tin Can Bay to Hervey Bay in north winds up the Great Sandy Strait. Day 1 saw 117 boats start in light and variable north westly breezes and brilliant sunshine. Both boat crews were relaxed about their performance. Stan picked the spot at Garry s Anchorage and the two boats rafted up with Pzazz (Peter White and crew Dan) with a spectacular Frazer Island sunset to end the day. Day 2 and no wind, so the fleet motored to the next start line. A gentle north-wester saw the spinnaker boats take off with Rob demonstrating his skill trimming Hey Jude s big one while Wagtail performed better than previous years with the jib poled out. After turning the corner at South White Cliffs the breeze stiffened and swung round to more west than north and gave most boats a fast reaching leg almost to the finish, when the wind died again. After the presentation of awards, where Wagtail picked up 1 st PBH in its division, both boats rested up before heading back south. Another 2 days leisurely sailing into a light south-easter, in company with turtles and dolphins, saw both crews happily back in Tin Can Bay. Page 4 of 5
5 Definitions... The impossible is what nobody can do until the Skipper does it. Tomorrow is probably the best labour saving device we have today. The most desirable cruising partner is one who earns money faster than the Skipper can spend it. BOAT is an acronym for Bring Out Another Thousand Sea sickness tablet packaging invariably lists nausea as a possible side effect!!! DIDUNO The magnetic compass is believed to have been invented in China about 200 BC. Captain Cook was the first to cross the Antarctic Circle in HMS Resolution on 17 January Big Fish, Small Pond The rain was pouring and there was a big puddle in front of the pub. A ragged old man was standing outside holding a rod with a string dangling into the puddle. A tipsy looking, curious gentleman came over and asked what he was doing. Fishing, the old man said simply. Poor old fool, the gentleman thought, as he invited the ragged old man into the pub for a drink. As he felt he should start some conversation while they were sipping their whisky, the gentleman asked And how many have you caught? You re the eighth, the old man answered.
