FROM THE COMMODORE Summer is flying by. It has been great to see so many people out on boats and using the club. The participation of the membership at club events is always impressive whether it is the corn roast, the chicken barbeque or the Sunday breakfasts the turn out of volunteers is amazing. It is truly what makes the WYC great. Thanks to all that volunteer. The summer will be drawing to a close sooner than we all think. I would ask that mooring and dock holders start giving some thoughts to the use of their boats in The requirement is that you inform the harbor master of your intentions when the letter is sent out in December. It would be helpful, if you know that you will be passing on your mooring or dock space, to inform the harbor master and/or the Officers and Trustees as soon as you can. I realize that this is a difficult decision for you to make. However by informing us sooner rather than later you will be doing your fellow club mates a favor. By December most members without a club mooring or dock will have had to secure a commercial space already. By notifying us early if you are going to be letting your spot be released to the next worthy member. You will be doing them a favor by allowing them to plan ahead for the next year. Thank you in advance for your consideration. The moorings and dock spaces are one of the greatest assets of the WYC. Unfortunately they are of a finite supply. The criteria for being assigned a mooring or dock space are spelled out in the by laws as follows: A waiting list shall be established and future assignments will be based primarily on contribution to the club with consideration given to time of application, seniority, size of boat and location available. (Revised 2010) As per the above, assignments are made primarily based on contributions to the club. It is also intended that the boats that are kept on those moorings and docks are going to be used on a regular basis. If for any reason you are unable to use your boat as much as you would like, or participate in club functions as often as you would like, because of some set of circumstances, make sure that the Harbor Master is aware of your situation. The goal of the Officers and Trustees and the Harbor Master is to make sure that mooring and dock spaces are assigned and used as equitably and fairly as possible, for the benefit of the most members. 2 WYC HAPPENINGS MEMBERS HELPING MEMBERS WYC Friday Pub Nite tee shirt fundraiser for the JB Thompson Fund raised a total of $2,278! Sales numbered 100! A special thanks to Judi Rogato and Moe Heckman for spearheading the fundraisng effort and to Ruth and Steve Coneys of Say It In Stitches. Moe, Jesse, Judi and a Pub Nite T-shirt JIMMY FUND AUCTION John and I would like to thank all who supported the Jimmy Fund Auction and the John B. Thompson Auction on July 26th. The technical support provided by Tari Selig and Robyn Pallis was invaluable. We were blessed to have Jesse Thompson here to serve as Auctioneer and give us a progress report on John's therapy. Thanks to the very active bidding and re-bidding of our members and guests, we were able to send $2, to Dana Farber and are holding $5, for The JB Thompson Foundation. The refrigerator can remain unlocked when people are around but the last person out should make sure it's secure. The event s popularity has started more conversations about other possibilities for getting folks out in boats.. Please plan on attending the 24 th annual Labor Day Dock Party and the wildly popular LOBSTER FEED (inserts attached). Note: Plans for Oktoberfest are still pending, we will keep everyone posted. John, Tom and Dick 2013 WYC Social Committee The Great 2013 raft-up was a fine NEWS FROM THE YACHT YARD The yacht yard is quiet again. LWSA Youth Sailing has had a busy season, but packed up for the winter and moved their boats to storage on August 16 th. Now it s time to think about prep, hauling, and storage. Yacht Yard prep day for haul out will be on Saturday, September 28 th. We ll have the usual work to do in preparation for haul out. Coffee and donuts will be served. Haul out will be on Saturday, October 12 th, with the fallback day on the 19 th. If anyone has a special request that we need to consider, please let me know. Coffee & donuts and lunch will be served. Reminders to follow, in the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer. Kevin Hayes Yardmaster

4 WYC HAPPENINGS CONT. The 2013 WYC Corn Roast was a great success. With beautiful weather and great food, 208 members, guests and workers enjoyed a wonderful evening at the WYC. Many thanks to Andy and Martina Howe of Beans and Greens farm for the delicious corn. We are extremely grateful to Tom Boucher of T-Bones/Cactus Jack s for donating the great ribs and potato salad. Thank you to Jason of T- Bones for cooking the ribs to perfection. You may have noticed this summer that the Harbormasters have temporarily assigned six different members to moorings or dock spaces at the Club or Yacht Yard. These assignments have lasted from a few days to more than a month. In most instances the mooring or dock space holders have alerted us very soon after they knew they would not use their mooring or dock which is in keeping with our bylaws which essentially say such notification has to occur if a mooring or dock holder does not plan to use their location for two weeks or more. The Harbormasters intend to continue pursuing these opportunities because it is one more way to promote boat use and the goals of the Club. We generally seek members for temporary assignments WYC CORN ROAST 2013 FROM THE HARBOR MASTER Thanks to the hard working crew consisting of Charlie and Alli Boucher, Nancy Donohue, Joel, Linda and Stacy Edinburg, Andy and Martina Howe, Scott and Chris Kingsley, proposed member Lynda Nelson & friend Brenda Whitmore, Brenda Nelson, Proposed member Mark & Sue Primeau, Proposed member Rob & Bridgette O Brien, Chris Volpe and Lauri Stone. Thanks to all that helped with this great event! Rick Nelson who we believe persistently contribute effort to support the Club. This is a good time of year to check your mooring pennant, including it s thimble, and also all shackles near the surface of the lake. Don t forget to tighten your halyards so it is quiet for us and all our neighbors. Working together, Al Herte and I have found we can get 10 pennants with stainless steel thimbles so next season we will include these in our inventory because it allows us to limit swing radius in the mooring field thereby giving us more space. We will likely include some with a clip at one end so it can easily be attached to a motorboat or sailboat eye where possible.
