1 January President s Message Volume 147 January 2016 Hello fellow club members: Winter is here and snow has fallen on the higher mountains. Even Dodge Ridge opened in Nov. Also, I expect your personal fitness training for the rigors of skiing is well under way and you are ready to enjoy winter and all the activities offered by our snow. Our winter schedule of skiing and partying requires one to be in top physical shape to enable enjoying the season to its fullest. Meetings and activities: Our first activity of is the Stockton Heat Hockey night happening on Jan 2. Roy Nightengale has organized a great Stockton Heat Hockey Night in Stockton. Details are provided herein. There are more activities coming next year. We had a great Chili Cook-off in November however it was won again by Pam s chili, although she admitted altering the recipe for this year s contest. Our club chili improves every year. Reminder: Our Lodge is ready for the winter, as are the ski slopes with all resorts fully open. See or text Michelle if you are going to use the Lodge. This is also a time to discuss our ski racing program with Maarten Vandermeer our racing chairman. Note he can be very racy! Also, visit the Open League Racing site for further info: I do encourage all skiers to consider this racing program as a way to enjoy skiing more, meet fellow skiers of similar abilities, and improve your skiing ability. Note: the better, more proficient a skier you are, the more you will enjoy skiing; the more you enjoy skiing the better you will ski. This is a self-fulfilling prophesy. I encourage all MSC skiers to join me at the Lodge and on the ski slopes on our race weekends for the camaraderie and joy of skiing with friends. 2 MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS Let it SNOW!!!! Wow, so very happy we have snow. The Lodge use is way up since its been falling. I am grateful for the weather as it helped all the business s and ski resorts to have a great start to the ski season. Be sure to get up to the Lodge to enjoy this season of snowboarding, skiing, & all the fun activities in the Truckee area! I want to thank the following members for their help in getting some of the supplies to the Lodge on their recent visit. Thanks so much Kathy and Lykele Meidema for bringing supplies to the Lodge; I really appreciate your help with this. I also want to thank Scott & Michelle Goodreau for their help in bringing back the Modesto Fire Extinguishers to be serviced and for returning them to the Lodge. Thanks Pam Allen for making sure that this task was accomplished. The Lodge is looking great and is ready for more members and guests. Race Team, please be sure to let me know the race weekends that you are wanting to use the Lodge. Thanks in advance for your help in getting me this information. Spring Work Weekend: Mark your calendar: April 22-24, Send me an if you want to sign up to help. It s a super fun weekend and a great way to get to know the other ski club members that will be there working. As always, if the Lodge needs attention, please let me know so I may ask the Trustees to help with fixing anything. 6 Happy New Year Skiers I hope everybody had a great holiday season and got some skiing in. The conditions are better than they have been in years. So it looks good for the upcoming race season. For people interested in racing, now is the time to register. Go to and follow the directions. We really need to get this done so we can get all the paperwork and payments in. If you signed up already and did not pay yet, please send me your check (made out to Modesto Ski Club) and your liability waver. Make sure you contact Michelle for lodge reservation for the race weekends. We have one change in the schedule: The clinic at Alpine Meadows on January 10 th was canceled by the mountain. Alpine no longer has a race training program. My grandchildren and I will still go up that weekend to get some turns in at Squaw and Alpine. Have fun on the snow and let s hope for a lot more snow!!!
