Believe it or not it s time to start tuning up the skis and getting ready to hit the slopes. At our November meeting we will have Chad from Aspen Ski and Board to show us some of the latest and greatest in ski equipment. Chad will be available to answer any questions you may have about your current equipment or to advise you on any new equipment. Aspen Ski and Board has been very good to us in the past and I m sure will continue to support us in the future. Tim Crowley will also be selling raffle tickets for our Big Raffle, which will this year be happening at our January meeting. The tickets are one for $5.00 and he has several items from local ski shops, ski areas and is even working on trying to get some donations from retail stores. Be sure to see Tim to get your tickets. Tickets will be $5.00 each (no arm length discount on these, sorry). If you remember over the last few years we have hade some pretty fabulous prizes. New ski coats, gift certificates, complete resort packages, lift tickets, and all types of ski equipment, plus some very unique creations by our own Kenny Weber. The drawing will be held at our January membership meeting at 9:00 pm & you DO NOT have to be present to win. Buy a ticket at each meeting and increase your odds. Snow Trails will be open very soon and their first event will be Friday, October 31 thur Sunday, November 2. They will be having their annual Ski Swap. There will be lots happening this weekend with annual ski swap at the Ski Shop and raffles and and much much more. It all starts on Friday night at 5pm and continues through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday things will start back up at 10:30am. With the Ski Patrol serving brats and beer for lunch. Check or 800-OHIO-SKI for details. Come out to Snow Trails and show your support. ALPINE DISCOVERY Now is the time to be planning ahead for skiing at Snow Trails this coming season. These are the best prices around for the season. The prices increase $25.00 on Nov. 1. So don t wait until the last minuet to get me your completed form and check, so I have time to get your info to Snow Trails and get you the best price available. Steve Stone Steve Stone passed away this month suddenly due to a drowning accident. Steve was 53 and owned his own construction business. He had been a member of the ski club for many years and lived in Newark. He was a skier and went on many trips with the club. He had a taste for adventure. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time. New Members New member lists will be updated next month. Since there are so many changes to the roster listing and some of you have not renewed your membership yet or opted to have your friends join, the more complete up-to-date list will be published later, giving you ample time to get signed up, of course. You wouldn t want to miss the opportunity to travel to far and distant lands and get the best cost possible for a fabulous ski trip, now would you? Sign up today! Telluride 2009, Jan 31-Feb 7 Well, the Choose Your Own Flights has become Choose Your Own Adventure for some of us - United has cancelled and changed around many flights, so we all just need to hang in there and try to get the best deal we all can! The trip is a short 3 months away, so think about your equipment and gear to pack and get a tune up - or do some research on which ones to demo out there! This has always been a great weekend to ski and get the group together for a pizza party for an evening of fun. This is as close to out west as it gets for Ohio skiing. Ski Holimont If we have a group that would like to ski at Holimont on Thursday we can arrange that for the price of a lift ticket. They would love to have us ski there again this year for those that had the opportunity to ski there last year or in the past it is a nice secret and was great skiing. We can request a group rate if there is enough interest. Sign up at the November meeting. A $50.00 deposit is required to hold your spot. Because of the uncertainty of getting into the airport and to the ship on the day of the cruise there has been an extra day added to spend in San Juan. This means that we will fly in on Saturday, October 17, Our first day and evening will be spent at The Caribe Hilton in San Juan, it is one of the most luxurious resorts in Puerto Rico, with oceanfront swimming pools, whirlpools and hammocks next to the secluded beach. The Caribe Hilton is located between old San Juan and the exciting Condado area. More information can be found about the hotel at Because of having this extra day/night in San Juan we have had to adjust the price. Remember this price is still based upon current airfare and could still change. As before you can cancel up until June Prices are now as follows: Inside Room $1050 Window Room $1150 Balcony $1250 This cruise includes stops at Barbados, St. Thomas, Dominica, St. Kitts and Dominican Republic.
