1 Hello U8 & U10 Families, Looking forward to an exciting day at Seymour tomorrow! Year after year, Seymour has been a great event, full of fun and true sportsmanship. Enjoy the day with your family. No better way than to ski together on one of our Beautiful BC mountains! MT. SEYMOUR RACE DAY SCHEDULE (SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2017) Pre-event Notes and Reminders: This is a full day of racing for U8s and U10s. Parents can watch and/or volunteer to assist with the races. U8s, leave your Tyee bibs at home! You will be wearing Seymour-issued race bibs. Tuck a healthy snack in your athlete s pocket. They ll be working hard, and sometimes line-ups may delay the lunch start times. Parents, at 8:00 check-in, please assist racers with affixing their passes, ensuring they are displayed on something they will wear the entire event. (Last year, our boys coach duct-taped them to their helmets, bar codes exposed so they can be scanned at the lift. Worked very well!) Meals for parents not volunteering (volunteers get a bagged lunch), you can purchase a late breakfast, lunch and snacks at the Grillworks Cafeteria. Opening time is somewhere around 8:30/9:00 a.m. (going by memory; couldn t find it on their website). Spectators on foot, dust off your binoculars. You ll be able to see some of the racing from the spectators area at the top. Charge your cell phones and clear your camera s memory. Make room for more of those memorable moments! Page 1 of 5

2 Parking Parking is free, but limited. The Seymour Coordinator highly encourages carpooling. As you arrive at the top, you will be greeted by the parking attendant. The parking attendants will advise where to park. Parking attendants strictly enforce where visitors park so please follow their instructions. Important Notes for SPECTATORS: Spectators who will NOT be skiing/boarding: Spectator passes will be provided. These are NOT lift passes. These ONLY allow parents to watch from the top and ONLY in marked areas. There is a flat area between the buildings and the top of the runs. No one is allowed below that point without a valid lift pass and ski equipment. For everyone s safety, Mount Seymour Resort does NOT allow pedestrian access to the ski area. According to Seymour s Coordinator, last year there were parents from various clubs walking throughout the event, across the runs and all the way down to the bottom of the chair. This caused safety issues for all of the race participants, for themselves and for the customers on the mountain. Seymour s coordinator has requested that this message is made very clear for parents/spectators. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Spectators who WILL be skiing/boarding (but not volunteering): Spectators who wish to view the events from within the ski area boundaries must be equipped with skis or a snowboard and have a valid area pass. Passes can be purchased at Guest Services (.P on the map below) which typically opens at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers As with all races, the best and sometimes the only way to see your child race is to volunteer. Note: They may still need volunteers (people s schedules change at the last minute)! If you are willing, 8:00 check-in is in the Grillwork Cafeteria. 4 RACE DAY SCHEDULE (SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2017) 7:30 a.m. Parking Prepare to meet inside Grillworks Cafeteria (Three Peaks Lodge) at 8:00 a.m., racers fully dressed, equipment ready, snack in pocket. 8:00 a.m. ** Check-in ** Location for ALL of the following: Grillworks Cafeteria ( O on map) Racers Meet coaches inside the cafeteria s eating area. Coaches will distribute Seymour race bibs and racers lift passes (including 5-year-old athletes free passes). Note: Hot dog lunch vouchers for athletes will also be included in coaches packages. Parents, please assist racers with affixing their passes, ensuring they are displayed on something they will wear the entire event. Volunteers Check-in inside the cafeteria s eating area. Volunteers lift tickets and bagged lunch will be provided. Spectators who will NOT be skiing/boarding Spectators passes will be handed out inside the cafeteria s eating area. Look for Spectator Passes signage. 9:15 a.m. Start of Races! (Refer to map provided above for event locations.) U8 Grouse Teams Start at SPEED event, then JUMP event, then DUAL GLALOM U10 Grouse Teams Start at JUMP event, then DUAL GLALOM, then SPEED event Typically, all groups do the same event twice Speed even twice, Jump event twice, and the Dual Glalom, once on the red run and once on the blue run, so twice. Occasionally, they are not able to complete two runs of each race due to line-ups, weather challenges, tired kids, and that s fine. Be prepared for anything. Coaches will decide at the time on which approach is most efficient and head coaches will be on the radio monitoring the overall picture, advising the coaches of line-ups, etc. Lunch times (see next section) may not be exact. 5 ** Hotdog Lunch ** Location: Outside, near the top of the Seymour 16 s 11:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. U10 Grouse Teams U8 Grouse Teams Racing will continue after lunch. 2:30 p.m. Return of Seymour bibs in exchange for a treat!
