1 Prof. Cioffi s Lifetime Achievement Dinner The surprise event for Anthony Cioffi, P.E. was held at New York City College of Technology s new Academic Building on December 21, Students of the Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology Department organized the Lifetime Achievement Dinner to thank Cioffi for his 27 years of passion and dedication as both the CMCE Department Chairperson, until 2017, and as faculty to present time. His efforts have changed many lives as he encouraged students to excel in their studies, to produce professional work, and to exceed beyond their expectations. He promoted collegiate involvement in the American Society of Civil Engineers through the ASCE Student Chapter and the ASCE sponsored National Student Steel Bridge Competitions. Many recent graduates and young professionals are members of ASCE due to his leadership and example. He has Raised the Bar in the civil engineering profession through his volunteerism at various levels of ASCE. At the dinner, colleagues from academia, the construction industry and engineering field, as well as students, stood to recount the tales of Cioffi s influence on their lives and careers. Albert Pozotrigo acknowledged how Cioffi propelled him to lead as a former Met Section president, while current president, Tim Ward nodded in agreement. Pozotrigo recalled Cioffi pushing him into a packed classroom with students waiting for their new professor. Cioffi, allegedly said you ll do fine and held the door, trapping Pozotrigo in the classroom... an educator was born. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed, off the cuff evening. The memories shared brought about laughter, smiles and a few tears. Cioffi stood to hug each person whom spoke and take a photograph. As his wife, Nanette watched with tears of joy in her eyes, their daughter, Gianna presented the etched glass Lifetime Achievement Award sculpture. Immediately after, the engraved Bulova desk clock was presented. Cioffi claimed to be at a loss of words, a rare occurrence indeed. He expressed his gratitude to everyone with his customary grand smile. All of Anthony Cioffi s hard work, the crazy schedules and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. The attendees, although significant, was a mere fraction of the people whom wanted to express appreciation. On behalf of everyone thank you professor thank you colleague thank you friend.
