Head Coach Wade Benson begins his first season as Auburn s head coach and holds a career record (.727)... Last season the Tigers finished with an record and were 3-17 in SEC play, finishing sixth in the SEC West... Auburn returns six letterwinners and four starters from 2007 while welcoming eight newcomers. ON THE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK Auburn travels to Troy for its final mid-week match of the season, taking on the Trojans at 7 p.m., Tuesday. The Tigers then hit the road for their final non-conference matches of the season at the Michigan Pepsi Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. TROY SERIES HISTORY This will mark just the second meeting all-time between Auburn and Troy. The Tigers hold a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the first meeting, 3-1. LAST TIME VS. TROY Auburn and Troy last met on Aug. 24, 2007 in the first match of the War Eagle Invitational. Auburn pulled out the 3-1 (31-29, 21-30, 30-28, 30-10) win on the back of 21 kills from Rachel Shanks. Jelena Sekulic nad Jessica Glover chipped in 10 kills each. Glover also led the team with 18 digs. The Trojans were led by Aubre Smith and her 14-kill, seven-block performance. SCOUTING THE TROJANS Troy enters the 2008 season with 11 letterwinners and six starters returning from it s 2007 squad that went (7-10 Sun Belt). The Trojans are under the direction of third-year head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. Troy was picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Eastern Division in a poll of the league s head coaches. The Trojans are 4-3 this season with wins over Arkansas- Pine Bluff (3-0), IUPUI (3-1), Iona (3-1) and Memphis (3-2). With their three wins at the Tiger Invitational over IUPUI, Iona and host Memphis, Troy took home the tournament title. Meghan Gilroy leads the offensive attack with a.335 attack percentage and a team-best 3.38 kills per set average. For her efforts last week, Gilroy was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. Aubre Smith is right behind her offensively, averaging 2.52 kills per set, while also leading the eam with 0.89 blocks per set. Megan Henderson is the primary setter, averaging 8.56 assists per set while Emily Strader assumes the libero role, posting 2.78 digs per set. LAST TIME OUT FOR TROY The Trojans had to go five sets, but were able to pull out the 3-2 (26-24, 12-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-11) win at Memphis to earn the Tiger Invitational tournament title. Four Trojans finished in double-digit digs, led by Erin Kissling, Megan Henderson and Emily Strader with 12 each. Meghan Gilroy led the offensive attack with 16 kills, followed by Aubre Smith with 14. Henderson was the most efficient hitter, posting seven kills and a.500 attack percentage. As a team, Troy hit.169 on the match, despite 13 team blocks from Memphis. UP NEXT FOR THE TIGERS Following the match with Troy, Auburn rounds out the non-conference portion of the schedule at the Michigan Pepsi Challenge. The Tigers take on Toledo first at 5 p.m., Friday, followed by Oakland at 1:30 p.m., Saturday. Auburn and Michigan close out the tournament with a 7:30 p.m., Saturday match. CHASING Auburn head coach Wade Benson enters Tuesday s match with Troy needing just one more win to reach the 200-win plateau. In his ninth season as a head coach, Benson currently has a career record. Not all of the wins are at the NCAA Division I level as Benson s first head coaching job was at NAIA Western Oregon where he finished with a 42-7 season. Currently, his Division I record stands at PICKING UP NO. 1 With Auburn s 3-0 win over Bethune-Cookman, Wade Benson picks up his first victory as Auburn s head coach. Benson did not have to wait too long to get the win, earning it in his fifth match as AU s head coach. The Tigers dominated in the match, hitting.316, compared to a.086 attack percentage from the Wildcats. Jonelle Wallace led with 14 kills, followed by Olympia Haney with 11. TIGERS EARN SHARE OF BEAR BRAWL TITLE After posting a 3-0 tournament record, the Auburn volleyball team earned a share of the Mercer Bear Brawl Tournament title. Both Auburn and host Mercer went undefeated in the two-day tournament. Sophomore Jonelle Wallace hit.508 in the three tournament matches, including a.722 outing against Bethune- Cookman. For her efforts, Wallace was named to the all-tournament team. DOUBLE DOWN Junior Emily Knuth posted Auburn s first double-double of the season against Mercer. Not only was it the first of the season,

Five SEC teams earned berths in the NCAA Tournament. All 11 teams in the SEC posted wins in double-digits in 2007, while four teams posted 20-plus win seasons. Florida led with 29, followed by LSU and Ole Miss with 25, and Kentucky with 22. LSU claimed the Western Division crown in 2007, with Florida earning the Eastern Division championship. Florida captured its 17th SEC Championship and advanced to the NCAA regional semi-finals. Two players were selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All- American Team. 12 student-athletes were named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams. Two players were named AVCA All-America, five were named AVCA Honorable Mention All-America and nine (including two honorable mention) players were named to the AVCA Division I All -South Region Team. In the past 17 years, 980 student-athletes have earned selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. but it was also the first of Knuth s career. She finished the four-set match with a team-leading 12 kills and 13 digs. The 12 kills was by far a career high as the most she had posted in a match prior to 2008 was one. Senior Jessica Glover and sophomore transfer Jonelle Wallace earned their first of the season at Jacksonville State. Glover finished with 15 kills and 16 digs while Wallace tallied 11 kills and 11 digs. Glover then became the first Tiger to get two this season as she posted 19 kills and 16 digs against Georgia Southern. IT S MY PARTY Junior Emily Knuth and sophomore Liz Crouch got a unique birthday present as they started in Auburn s season-opening match on Aug. 29. Knuth turned 21 while Crouch turned 19. Knuth and Crouch are not the only Tigers that share a birthday, but one of four pairs on the team. Freshman Chanelle Clark and sophomore Lauren Mellor were both born on April 23. Senior Jessica Glover and freshman Olympian Haney share Oct. 16 as a birthday. Lastly, sophomore Sara Shanks and head coach Wade Benson were both born on Aug. 8. SHAKING UP THE LINEUP In seven matches so far this season, head coach Wade Benson has used five different starting lineups, utilizing 12 different players on Auburn s 16-player squad. Mixing in his young team with the limited experience, nine of the 12 starters have either been freshmen or sophomores. Four of the six incoming freshmen have started and five of the seven sophomores have started. STRENGTH IN YOUTH Auburn s young players have made an immediate impact on the team, at least in the stats. The newcomers account for 152 of Auburn s 315 kills so far this season and 99 of the 338 digs. When the sophomore class is added to the mix, the numbers are even greater. Of the 315 kills, 212 are from freshmen and sophomores, as well as 238 of the 338 digs. NEW FACES IN THE LINEUP Losing three seniors from the 2007 squad, first-year head coach Wade Benson hit the recruiting trail and brings eight newcomers to the court for the 2008 season. Leading the group is a class of six freshmen: Kelly Brugger, Chanelle Clark, Kelly Fidero, Olympia Haney, Jyoti Ruffin and Christina Solverson. Also joining the team are Colorado State transfer Jonelle Wallace and walk-on Rebecca Simon. The group represents five states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Texas, Virgina. AUBURN VOLLEYBALL PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON SEC POLL The Auburn University volleyball team was voted to finish fifth in the SEC Western Division for the third consecutive year by the league s head coaches, conference officials announced Aug. 26. In 2007, the Tigers finished with an record, going 3-17 in SEC play to finish sixth in the SEC West. AU returns eight players from last season s squad, four of which were starters, and brings eight newcomers to the team for the 2008 season. LSU, the 2007 SEC West champion, tops the division with 10 points and is followed closely by Ole Miss in second with 21 points. Alabama comes in at third (27), followed by Arkansas (41) and Auburn (44). Mississippi State rounds out the division in sixth with 52 points. In the SEC East, Florida comes out on top with 11 points while also earning the distinction of being the favorite to win the SEC overall crown with seven of 11 possible first-place votes. Kentucky comes in second with 18 points, followed by Tennessee (33), Georgia (38) and South Carolina (40). Campbell assumes the role as Benson s top assistant and takes over the position of recruiting coordinator. Along with her coaching duties, Yantis will handle much of the program s administrative duties. Campbell, a native of Harvey Station, New Brunswick, Canada, brings nine seasons of coaching experience to the staff, eight as a head coach and one as an assistant coach. Most recently, Campbell was at Northern Arizona from Yantis joins the Auburn volleyball staff full-time after assisting last season in an administrative role. The Hanover, Pa. native brings 14 years of volleyball experience on the Division I level, including four years of playing experience.

JANELLE RUEN JOINS STAFF AS DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS Former Eastern Washington player under Wade Benson and current AVP professional beach volleyball player Janelle Ruen joins the Auburn staff for the 2008 season as a director of volleyball operations. Ruen finished her college career as one of the most decorated players in EWU s history. She was the 2002 Big Sky MVP and a three-time All-Big Sky selection, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and first team honors as a junior and senior. She tallied 1,268 kills during her collegiate career, a mark that ranked second all-time at Eastern Washington, and 1,298 digs, a mark that ranked her third all-time. She is the first Eagle player ever to earn both 1,100 kills and 1,100 digs in their career. I am excited about the opportunity here at Auburn, said Benson. We have a great administration here, great support and an excellent university and town to recruit to. My excellent staff and I have put together a three-year plan for the team and the future is bright for Auburn volleyball. While the position is new to Benson, the role of head coach is not new territory for the Marina del Rey, Calif., native as he came to the Plains a er working for seven seasons as head coach at Eastern Washington University. Under Benson s direction, EWU won three Big Sky Conference regular-season titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and a Big Sky Tournament title in The 2001 title gave the Eagles a berth in the NCAA Tournament where EWU faced Pacific-10 member Oregon State. The Eagles pulled out a 3-2 win over the Beavers, advancing to the second round and a 3-1 loss to Hawaii. The second-round appearance marked the highest postseason advancement in the team s history. His 2002 team went 29-2 and made the USA Today/ AVCA Division I Top 25 poll for the first time, making it as high as No. 15 in the nation. Eastern Washington played in the Big Sky Conference championship match in each of Benson s seven seasons and finished with 20 or more wins in his last six seasons. He tallied a record during his tenure at EWU for a.737 winning percentage. Prior to coming to Eastern, Benson was the head coach at Western Oregon where he put together a 42-7 record and finished third in the NAIA Championship. Aside from his time as a head coach, Benson also has eight years of experience as an assistant. He served as an assistant for three years at Western Oregon under Judy Lovre and four years at Eastern Washington under Pamela Parks. Benson s teams at Eastern Washington also experienced success in the classroom and in a endance. Six of Benson s squads received Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award. In addition, Eastern averaged more than 1,000 fans per match all seven seasons and ranked in the top 30 nationally in a endance. During the off-season, Benson served as the club Wade Benson enters his first season as head coach at director and head coach of the Spokane Splash Volleyball Club, while also working as camp director of the Northern Exposure Volleyball Camp in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
