The first stretch of home matches comes on October 9 and 10 when the squad plays host to Western Illinois and IUPUI. After a road swing to North Dakota State and South Dakota State on October 16 and 17, the Dons don t hit the road for the remainder of the month of October, hosting Centenary (23rd), Oral Roberts (24th), Missouri State (25th), and Oakland (30th) to end the month. Scouting the Mastodons: IPFW won its second straight match, and fifth straight over Wright State with a five-set win over the Raiders on Tuesday evening. In that match, senior Rebekah Roehm knocked down a career-high 26 kills, and in the process, passed former teammate Jessica Miller for second on the rally-scoring-era career kill total, as Roehm s total now stands at 1,268. Roehm also added a season-best 20 digs, for her seventh double-double of the season and the 28th of her career. For the year, Roehm has over one hundred more kills than the next highest total on the team, 232 to the 131 of Maya Schlindwein. Stephanie Lamberti has also reached the 100-kill plateau with 113, an average of 2.31 per set. Shannon Reuter and Megan Steenhuysen are in a tight battle for the season lead in assists, Reuter slightly ahead, Schlindwein leads a quartet of Mastodons in double figure aces with 20, with Tessa McGill (13), Jamie Schwartz (12), and Taryn Parker (10) close behind. Schwartz is the team leader in digs with 237, as Roehm (162), McGill (139) and Schlindwein (110) have all eclipsed the 100-dig plateau. Ali Hook, off of backto-back games of 11 and eight blocks, leads the team in both total blocks (60), and blocks per set (1.07), with Parker second in both (56 blocks, 0.93 per set) IPFW volleyball roster No. Name Ht. Since the start of rally scoring in 2001, there have been just 12 Mastodons that have started their first matches, and an even fewer number of them that remained in the starting lineup. Last season, current sophomore Ashley Dillon started the first 28 matches of her career, the third longest such streak. This season, Jen Krumwiede started the first five IPFW s matches, which is the sixth longest streak, just ahead of former Mastodon Jessica Miller. Below is a listing of former and current Mastodon players, and the number of matches they started to open their careers. Player Games Yrs. Lindy Bankowski Peachy Jankowski Ashley Dillon Cynara Martins Fabiana Souza Jen Krumwiede Jessica Miller Amanda Pfister Mayara Schlindwein Janelle Pollard Melissa Meinhart Taryn Parker Hook, Line and Sinker... Sophomore Alli Hook saw her career-bests in kills and blocks tied or broken in each of IPFW s four matches. She came into the year with career-highs of 2 kills and did not have a block coming into the season. She tied her career kill total against Eastern Illinois, and then topped it with three against Butler, and then broke it and tied it again with four against both Kent State and Drake. She had her first career block against Eastern Illinois, and then followed with four against Butler, and then had six against both Kent State and Drake. Her strong sophomore season continued, as she blocked a school-record-tying 11 kill attempts in IPFW s three-set victory over Centenary on September 26.

Also setting a new career-high for kills was Stephanie Lamberti, who ended the match with 15, with Maya Schlindwein finishing just off of the double-figure pace with nine. Senior setter Shannon Reuter picked up a double-double with 51 assists and 17 digs, with Roehm leading the team with 20 digs. Jamie Schwartz added 14 digs, while freshman Tessa McGill added 10 digs in the win. A match after her 11-block effort, sophomore Ali Hook added eight, with Stephanie Lamberti chipping in five and Reuter three. IPFW jumped out quickly in the match, scoring five of the first seven points, jumping ahead 5-2 after the second of two straight Schlindwein kills. Despite not trailing early, the Mastodons would only lead by as many as three points, with the Raiders taking their first lead of the match after a Michelle Hammond kill gave the hosts a 10-9 advantage. After seeing their early lead taken away, IPFW ran off a 4-1 run to lead again by three at After a pair of sideouts, the Raiders used a 3-0 run of their own to knot the set at 16, forcing the Dons into their first timeout of the match. IPFW ended the rally, and pushed ahead to a one-point, lead, before the host Raiders put together their largest streak of the set, scoring the next five points, taking a four-point, lead. IPFW made the set interesting by scoring the ensuing three points, but after a WSU timeout, Lexi Leonhard pounded down her sixth kill of the set to give the Raiders the opening-set win. The Mastodons came out firing on all cylinders to open the second set, not trailing in the set after scoring the first five points of the frame, which included a Hook kill, a Taryn Parker ace, and a Lamberti/Hook combination block, giving the visitors a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the set. The five-point lead would be threatened in the middle of the run, as Wright State evened the match at to cap a Raider 3-0 run. IPFW quickly by scoring six of the next eicht points to lead A 3-0 WSU run closed the gap to just one at 21-20, but the Mastodon squad showed its character by ending the frame on a 4-1 run, including a trio of Roehm kills, giving the Mastodons the second-set win. IPFW carried its momentum from the end of the second set throughout the entirety of the third set, as the Dons led wire-to-wire after jumping ahead 4-1 to start the set. The Blue and White weren t able to pull away from the feisty Raider squad, until the visitors used a 6-0 run to put the match out of reach, putting IPFW ahead 2-1 after the third set As much as IPFW dominated the third set, Wright State seemed to be destined to win the fourth, as the host Raiders used runs of 3-0 and 5-0 to lead by as many as eight at With the Raiders seemingly securely ahead, the Dons climbed back, using a late 3-0 run to close the gap to four at 23-19, before Wright State scored two of the last three points to win In the fifth and deciding set, Wright State scored first for the first time in the match, before IPFW quickly jumped on the hosts with a 6-0 run to lead 6-1. Wright State would claw their way back, and eventually take a two-point, lead. With the lead, the crowd, and more importantly, the momentum, in the Raiders favor, IPFW buckled down and out-scored Wright State 5-1 to end the match, giving the Dons the deciding set win.

8 Super Smart... The IPFW women s volleyball team was named one of just 71 NCAA Division I programs to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Mastodons were joined by three other Summit League schools, North Dakota State, UMKC, and Western Illinois, and just one of four schools (Valparaiso, Ball State, and Indiana State) located in the Hoosier State. Additionally, the squad had nine players (Jessica Dominiak, Kylee Hervey, Stephanie Lamberti, Jessica Miller, Taryn Parker, Shannon Reuter, Rebekah Roehm, Maya Schlindwein, and Jamie Schwartz) named to the Summit League s Commissioner s List of Academic Excellence for the academic year. Lofty Expectations... For the second consecutive year, the IPFW Mastodons were picked to finish second in the Summit League. Defending champion North Dakota State was picked as the preseason favorite by the coaches, garnering nine of the ten first-place votes and totaling 81 overall points, with IPFW getting the tenth and final first-place vote, and 70 points overall. In the Mastodons three years in the Summit League, they have been picked first in 2007, second in 2008 and now again second in No Double-Double Trouble... Since 1988, there have been 12 players to record over 20 career double-doubles while in an IPFW uniform. Senior Rebekah Roehm s 28 currently puts her in eighth on the current list. Below is the list of players with at least 20 career double-doubles over IPFW s illustrious volleyball history. Player Double-Doubles Yrs. Fabiana Souza Laura Douglas Lindi Bankowski Cynara Martins Tami Isch Julie Parrot Julie Huber Rebekah Roehm pres. Deanna Brown Jessica Dominiak Kirsta Solberg Heather Teagarden Never Underestimate the Power of the Schwartz... With her 10 digs against Eastern Michigan, IPFW senior Jamie Schwartz joined a very prestigious group in IPFW women s volleyball history - the 1,000-dig club. Her 1,183 career digs currently places her fourth all-time during the Mastodons rally-scoring era, and eighth in the all-era record books. Can you Dig This Streak? In the course of college volleyball s rally-scoring era (2001-present), there have been 15 streaks at IPFW with players recording double-figure digs in seven or more straight matches. Senior Jamie Schwartz added her name to the list, by ending the season last year, and then picking up double-figure digs over the first six games of the 2008 season, only to see her streak snapped at seven with seven digs against Louisville. After seeing her streak snapped against the Cardinals, she started a new one, which currently stands at nine consecutive matches. Below are the top 15 IPFW dig streaks since 2001 for the Mastodons. If fans wanted to make the road trip driving from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Cedar City, Utah, according to MapQuest. com, you would be on the road for a minute shy of 26 hours, driving 1,724 miles, passing through six states (Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, and Utah), and the one-way trip if you have a car that gets 30 miles to the gallon would cost you $ in gas alone. The return trip, from Cedar City, by way of Kansas City, Missouri, for Saturday night s match against UMKC, and then back to Fort Wayne is 1,794 miles long, would take 27 hours and 11 minutes, and would cost $152.02, while adding two more states to your journey (Kansas and Missouri). Thankfully, the team flew out of Fort Wayne, greatly shortening the time en route to the contests. First Wins Coming into the season for IPFW, there were three opponents that IPFW had never beaten in the history of the program, and so far this year, IPFW is 2-0 against those teams. Kent State, which was 2-0 against IPFW previously, fell in four sets during the IPFW Invitational, and Western Michigan, who was 3-0 against the Dons, fell in a thrilling five-set match on September 15, The only remaining program to have a zero in the loss column against IPFW is Missouri State, who is 1-0 against the Dons, and will come to the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on October 25. Conversely, there are three schools that IPFW has never lost to, Western Illinois (6-0), Centenary (5-0), and UMKC, who is now 0-5 against IPFW after a four-set Mastodon win in Kansas City earlier this year.
