The Bobcats head to West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend to take part in the Purdue Active Ankle Challenge, where they will take on host Purdue as well as the Fighting Illini of Illinois. First up for Ohio this weekend is the Boilermakers in a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Sept. 18. Purdue enters the tournament at 6-3 overall, including a win in its most recent outing against then No. 21 Kansas State. Sophomore hitter Tiffany Fisher, junior middle hitter Kristen Arthurs and freshman outside hitter Ariel Turner each are hitting better than.242 with more than 150 kills through the first nine matches of the season. Junior setter Jaclyn Hart is averaging more than 10 assists per set for Purdue. Ohio will face Illinois for the first time in school history in a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 19. This week, the Illini moved up to No. 14 in the AVCA polls behind a 3-1 victory over then No. 16 St. Louis to improve to 6-1 on the season. Illinois is led by junior outside hitter Laura DeBruler, who was named the MVP of the State Farm Illini Classic last weekend after her 28 kills against St. Louis not only paced her squad, but also tied the school record for most 20-kill games in a career. DeBruler is averaging 5.64 kills per set and hitting.342 for the season. The home-grown Illini, who have just three players on their roster who are not Illinois natives, are on a four-match win streak after their lone loss against Florida State on Sept. 4. Quick Sets ohio (8-2) vs. No. 14 IlliNOIS (6-1) Purdue Active ankle challenge Date/Time: Sept. 19, p.m. ET Location: West Lafayette, Ind. Series History: First Meeting Under head coach Ryan Theis, the Bobcats are 28-3 when hitting.200 or better, and 24-4 when holding opponents under the.200 mark Since the beginning of the 2005 campaign, Ohio has put together a (.745) record in preconference tournaments. Senior outside hitter Ellen Herman and senior defensive specialist Sarah Petrulis were named the MAC East Players of the Week. Herman accumulated 81 kills (5.06 per set) with six service aces, 39 digs and nine total blocks during the Hampton Inn Invitational. Petrulis totaled 116 receptions and 69 digs for the Bobcats in four matches, while committing only two errors. Both were named to the all-tournament team. Seniors Ellen Herman and Meghan Simons enter the weekend leading the MAC in individual categories. with 168 kills through the first 39 sets of the seasons, Herman leads the conference with 4.31 kils per set. Simons heads the MAC in blocks per set with an average of 1.26.

N117 Convocation Center Athens, OH Bobcats Continue Tradition of Tough Non-Conference Play No stanger to tough early-season schedules, Ohio will once again take on one of the nation s most challenging non-conference slates in The Bobcats non-conference opponents combined to post a record of (.585) last season, while seven of Ohio s non-league opponents won at least 20 matches a year ago. The teams on Ohio s 2009 non-conference slate also figured prominently in last year s NCAA Championship, as seven of those squads qualified for the 2009 national tournament, including both of this weekend s opponents. Both Purdue and Illinois not only earned berths into the 2008 tournament, but advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Herman Tops Ohio s All-Time Attack List With her first attempt in set two of the Bobcat s match against Indiana on Sept. 11, Senior Ellen Herman became Ohio s all-time leader in career attempts under rally scoring records, passing former teammates Stephanie Blackburn ( ) and Melissa Griffin ( ). Herman currently stands at 3,886 total attacks in her career, which is also second on the Bobcats career overall record list. Herman trails current career leader Lori Dyer ( ) by 305 attempts. Herman currently holds the record (both overall and rally scoring) for attacks in a season, with the 1,363 attacks she recorded during her junior campaign. Herman has 437 attempts so far in Power at the Net With the strongest defensive front line in Ohio history, who can opposing offenses hit away from? Four members of the current Ohio roster are currently ranked among the top ten in career solo blocks. Seniors Ellen Herman (69), Jane Sytsma (51) and Meghan Simons (46) currently rank in the top seven all time, chasing leader Laura Hageman ( ) who finished her career with 105 solo blocks. Junior Sue Jacobi has already made her way onto the list, currently placing 10th with 39 solos. Ohio Sweeps MAC East Weekly Awards for Sept. 14 Ohio Volleyball s good weekend (3-1 record during Hampton Inn Invitational) continued into Monday as the Bobcats swept the MAC East Player of the Week awards. Ellen Herman was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Sarah Petrulis claimed the defensive honor. Not only did Herman s terrific offensive performance during the weekend get her named to the All-Tournament team, but she also became the Ohio University All-Time leader in total attacks (rally scoring), with 3,886. Over the weekend she accumulated 81 kills (5.06 per set) with six service aces, 39 digs and nine total blocks. On the defensive side, Petrulis had an excellent tournament. Like Herman, Petrulis was named to the All-Tournament team in addition to re-writing the Ohio record books. She became eighth overall in school history for digs (rally scoring) with 767 and ninth overall in assists (rally scoring) with 130. She totaled 116 receptions and 69 digs for the Bobcats this weekend, while committing only two errors. Leaders of the MAC As a team, the Bobcats lead all Mid American Conference squads in three separate categories heading into the final weekend of the non-conference schedule.

3 Ohio is first in hitting percentage (.267), as well as opponents hitting percentage (.148), representing a margin of better than.119 over the ten teams the Bobcats have faced so far this season. Ohio also leads the conference in total blocks. With 113 team blocks (35 solo and 156 assisted), the Bobcats are averaging 2.90 per set, one of only two MAC teams putting up more than 2.00 blocks per set. Herman Moving up Ohio s Career Kills Charts As the Bobcats take to the road this weekend, senior outside hitter Ellen Herman has the chance to overcome another hurdle on her path towards becoming the program s all-time kills leader. Herman, currently at 1,595 kills for her career, enters this weekend in second place on the overall and rally scoring career kills chart. Herman trails only former teammate Melissa Griffin ( ), who totaled 1,678 kills during her All-American. Herman Also Looking to Make a Dent in the MAC Record Book Senior outside hitter Ellen Herman heads into the season s final weekend of non-conference play on the verge of cementing her name alongside the most accomplished offensive players in Mid-American Conference history. With 81 kills over the homestand last wekend, Herman moved into 9th all-time in the conference records, with 1,595 total kills. The senior hitter needs 333 attacks to move past former Ball State star Kelly Cochran for 10th on the league career attempts ledger (4,219). Ohio s Senior Middles Have a Shot to Make History Senior middle blockers Jane Sytsma and Meghan Simons enter the season with a chance to become the first two members of the Bobcats 300-block club to play on the same Ohio team. Sytsma became the ninth member of that elite group in the latter stages of the 2008 season and heads into the weekend with 347 total blocks for her career, good for sixth on the Ohio charts. Simons has 251 total blocks to her credit and needs 49 more to complete the Bobcats unprecedented double. The pair currently lead the conference in total blocks. Simons tops the list with an average of 1.26 blocks per set. Sytsma is just off the pace of her classmate and teammate, averaging 1.13 per set. Sytsma and Simons each deadlocked for the team lead with 109 total blocks in 2008, with the latter pacing the Bobcats with an average of 0.98 blocks per set. Sytsma Not Just a Defensive Force at the Net One of just nine players in program history to amass more than 300 blocks for her career, senior middle blocker Jane Sytsma has a well-deserved reputation as a force at the net. Sytma s net prowess, however, carries over the offensive side of the game, where she currently ranks 9th on the program s rally-scoring career kills list with 700 terminations. Sytsma was a major factor in Ohio s success at the season-opening InnTowner Invitational, averaging 2.90 kills per set on a team-best.442 hitting to earn All-Tournament Team accolades. Simons Seeking Another Jump in Hitting Percentage Senior middle blocker Meghan Simons ranked among the MAC leaders in hitting percentage in 2008 with a mark of.323, good for seventh place on the program s rally-scoring single-season list and eighth on the overall season chart. The figure was also an improvement of 51 points over her mark of.272 from the 2007 campaign, her first with the Bobcats. With a similar improvement in 2009, Simons would be in position to challenge the program s overall and rallyscoring single-season hitting percentage records, which were both set by former Ohio All-American Melissa Griffin with a mark of.379 in bison/avca top 25 poll Rank School Pts. Petrulis Sights Set on 1,000 Digs After anchoring Ohio s back row in 2008, leading the team with an average of 3.42 digs per set, senior libero Sarah Petrulis has a shot this season to become just the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000-career dig plateau. Petrulis has registered 134 total digs this season to bring her career total to 767, just 233 away from the milestone. During the season-opening weekend s InnTowner Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin, she was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 3.40 digs per set. Petrulis is currently 7th all-time on the school s career rally scoring list, needing 123 digs to catch former Bobcat Erin Fiene ( ) at in 6th place. Post-erizing the Competition Sophomore opposite hitter/middle blocker Katie Post entered the 2009 season with no aces to her credit. That statistic didn t make it out of the first weekend of the new campaign, as the Streamwood, Ill., native tied for the team lead with six aces.

Post s season total stands at nine through the first three weeks of the season. Making it Raines Freshman defensive specialist Lauren Raines didn t wait long to make an impact on the collegiate level, dealing out six aces in 10 sets at the InnTowner Invitational to help the Bobcats claim the tournament title. Raines weekend total ties her with teammate Ellen Herman for seventh on Ohio s freshman rally scoring records list. With one more service winner, Raines will tie former Ohio setter Jill DeArmond for sixth on the chart. Fast Starts Lead to Wins Under Theis Ohio has shown a knack for making early leads stand up under head coach Ryan Theis, posting a 19-2 record when winning the first set in his tenure. The Bobcats have been automatic since the beginning of the 2008 season when taking the first two sets of a contest, winning all 18 matches in which they held a 2-0 advantage at the break..200 is the Tipping Point for Ohio When hitting percentage is used as a guage of success, the numbers show that the.200 mark is the number to hit for the Bobcats. Since head coach Ryan Theis took over prior to the 2008 season, Ohio has compiled a 28-3 record when converting at a rate of.200 or better, including a 7-0 mark when hitting.300 or better. On the flip side, the Green & White has amassed a 24-4 record when holding its opponents under the.200 mark in the hitting percentage department. Herman One of Few to Hit the 30-Kill Mark in 2008 Despite the switch to 25-point sets in 2008 that made it even more of a daunting task to reach the 30-kill mark in a match, outside hitter Ellen Herman was able to join that club on Dec. 5 when she piled up 32 terminations against Yale. Herman was one of just 15 players in the nation to reach the 30-kill mark a year ago, and one of just nine from that group who return to the collegiate court in Ohio Looking to Extend Streak of 20-Win Seasons The Bobcats head into the 2009 season looking to extend its school-record streak of 20-win seasons to eight in a row. Ohio has piled up 173 victories between 2002 and the completion of the 2008 season, an average of 24.7 per campaign. Bobcats Post Perfect APR for Second-Straight Year The Ohio volleyball team was once again perfect when the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data was released in late April, earning a multi-year score of for the second-consecutive year. The most recent APR scores were based on data from the , , and academic years. The APR calculates an individual institution s level of academic achievement within its athletic program. Based upon the key factors of athletic eligibility and retention, these elements yield a numerical guage of a program s academic performance that can be comparted to companion sports within a single program, against conference competitors or to national norms. Bobcats Earn Academic Acclaim from NCAA Ohio was honored in late April by the NCAA as one of just 49 collegiate women s volleyball teams in the nation to garner the Public Recognition Award, given annually to teams that rank in the top10 percent in their respective sports in Academic Progress Rate (APR). After also receiving the accolade in 2007, the Bobcats were one of just 33 repeat honorees, and one of just 12 NCAA Championship qualifiers from 2008 to make the cut. Herman Trains with Team USA in Golden State Senior outside hitter Ellen Herman spent the latter part of June in Anaheim, Calif., where she trained with the U.S. Women s National Team as the reigning Olympic silver-medal winners began preparations for the 2009 Pan Am Cup. An annual staple of the Team USA schedule, the Pan Am Cup serves as a qualifier for the FIVB Grand Prix. Herman Once Again Shines on National Stage Senior outside hitter Ellen Herman once again reaffirmed her reputation as one of the top young players in the nation during the spring of 2009, garnering all-tournament honors at the USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships after leading the U.S. National Women s A2 Red team to the silver medal in the women s open division. At the 2008 edition of the tournament, Herman earned Most Valuable Player recognition for leading the same
