1 NEWSLETTER MARCH 016 MARCH NEWSLETTER Hi everyone, we have had a busy couple of summer months lots of junior development, tournaments and summer fun on the river. Now it time for our majour fundraiser with less than three weeks out, we hope everyone can take a bit of time to help our club out and also enjoy and support our fantastic race. Working Bee Sunday 0 th March, 9am onwards Calendar EVENT Robinvale Ski Race/Labor Day Long Weekend Malibu Just Ride Tour WORKING BEE GTS Mildura 100 Ski Race Poker One Hundy- Mildura Poker Run On the Sunday before Easter we will be having a working be down at the club, we require a number of people to do the following: Put in the course Spreading sand on the beach and car park Drop the slalom course Check all lights, power points, leads etc. Put up fences Tidy the paddock for toilet and parking Wiper snip bush areas etc. need someone with a wiper sniper Remove glass fridge and dispose Repair laminate back splash in kitchen and re silicone edges Repair hot water service Pressure Wash Deck *Re oil the deck? Repaint the stair case rails We also require some ladies to help around the club house to make up packs and general clean up. DATE/S 1 th -13 th March 19 th -0 th March Sunday 0 th March 5 th -7 th March Sunday 10 th April Please BYO shovel/rake and whatever tools you may need. *Don t forget the $5 discount on your ski club membership when you have participated in a working bee or volunteer position throughout the year* All help is greatly appreciated! 2 RSA Course Victoria RSA course Wednesday 16 th March at the Irymple Bocce Club, Recreation Avenue, Irymple (near Swimming Pool, Irymple Bowls Club, Irymple Library. 5.5 approx hours Please let us know names by Friday the 11 th march for more information please ring Kim For anyone who can help in the bar at the race the club will pay for this course. Southern 80 The crew from Pigs Arsenal with Chris Stevens driving, Mark Boyer observing and Sean and Jack Stevens skiing finished the course on Sunday in first place in unlimited inboard expert in 3:50 which placed them 7th overall. The Kelly boys with their new set up Mojo finished 1st in 5. litre and 6 cylinder expert class with Rick Kelly Driving, John Kelly observing and Todd Kelly and Gerard Atkins skiing in a time of :08 The team of Thunderduck had a great weekend, coming third in Super Social on Sunday with Michael Luhrs, John Hatherall, Ryan Hatherall and Michael Creek also placing first in 5. & 6 litre social. Chelsea Blight placed first in the open Women's Expert class behind Merc Force F1 in a quick time of 35:07 and also finished first behind Blown Cash in open women's social Brad Johnson observing in Extreme Meltdown placed third in the open women's class Masterforce with Geoff Thomson, Craig Harper, Ryan Thomson and Clarke Stegmeyer placed third in Boys Declan Hartley and Oscar Baumgurtle finished second in stock 6 litre social behind mr insanity The team of Hodge marine racing with Damien Mcglynn driving, Ryan Pearson observing and Shaun James and Adrian Mcglynn skiing finished th in MOC Expert Euston skier Jake Hinterholzl finished second in 6 litre expert behind Toey As. Jackson Hammond was close third behind him in 6 litre skiing with Synthetic Todd Clarke finished third in Junior boys social behind Free Agent. The team of Still No Dramas placed 9th in the very competitive 70mph social class with new driver Brandon Mcglynn, Brent Hollins observing and Lochlan Mcglynn and Bryson Toole skiing. The esky Mojo crew finished th in f expert class with Greg Toole driving, Leslie Toole observing and Travis Olivier and Darren Purdom skiing Page

3 Tachycardia finished th in the open women's expert class with Peter Freckleton, Jake Parry, Cody Johnson and Corrine Donald Elementrix racing in the under 10 class finished in 7th in a big field of under 10 boys and girls with Nathan Hedley Driving, Craig Harper observers and Sienna Hedley skiing Tournament News Well if you ve been living under a rock the last few months, here s a quick rundown of happenings in tourney world. The round Slalom Tourney was once again a huge success although the wind made conditions a little tricky for some. Highlights were; Gav McMillan equaling the State record for O35M with a score Lucas Cornale equaling his U10B Aussie record of 1@1m Adam Gowty setting personal bests during the tourney Other Members who had PB s were Chelsea Brien Gabrielle Brien Jack Christie and Victorian U17 record Greg Dalgarno Timi Delahunty Ellie Op de Coul Dylan Veal Junior Members Jack Christie Bailey Christie and Chelsea Brien attended the National Ski School at Port Maquarie for a week under the eyes of some of the best water ski coaches in Australia. Most notable for the week was Jack coming away with the Most outstanding Skier perpetual trophy. This Trophy has some of the biggest names in Australian water ski history engraved on it and Jack should be extremely proud of his efforts. At the Conclusion of the week long Ski School is the Australian Junior Masters Tournament and all three excelled at the event With Chelsea setting new PB s in Slalom (5 and Jump (.5m) This is Page 3

4 Chelsea s first year in U17 Girls division and being bottom of the age group she should be very happy with her results finishing mid field in all 3 events. Jack Christie taking gold in Slalom and Trick and Third in Jump, this is also Jacks first year in the U17 Division and his scores so far this year will have selectors having to have him in their sights as a potential team member for Junior Worlds to be held late this year. Bailey Christie was also on the podium in all three events and the U1 division has some very strong skiers that are very evenly matched and will no doubt shuffle positions on the podiums for years to come. Former Local Lucas Cornale continued his dominance in the U10 Division taking Gold in Slalom Trick and overall, with another year left in the division he will obviously like to better his own Australian record. His Sister Karmen also competing and putting up some scores close to her personal bests and should be reasonably pleased with her results. Onto Aussie Masters held at Bridgewater, Jack Christie the talking point with a Victorian State U17B Slalom Record of This surpasses the mark of Nick Adams who is the current Australian open record holder. He obviously took the gold in that event and backed it up with Gold in Trick and Jump as well. Bailey not to be outdone taking home Gold in Slalom, Trick and Overall and a silver in Jump should be extremely pleased. James Golsworthy another notable mention latching onto a gold Medal in O35M Slalom!! This would be James first medal for skiing at a title event and he should be stoked with a new PB in the process as well. AND then on to Dave Hill Memorial Tournament at Blanchetown, this has been a regular tourney now for Mildura Members for the past 15 years and we will no doubt continue to patronise the event. Awesome skiing from all the attended but standout performances has to be mentioned. Timi Delahunty running 16m for the first time and then equaling the State Record This is only Timi s second year in the course and to make it even better she backed up that score again on the Sunday. This may have put a little bit of pressure on James Golsworthy as these have been neck and neck for some time and boy oh boy did he come up with the goods equaling Timis score to set a 3 buoy PB!!! Another Highlight Was Maggie Storey (Hill) setting 3 pending Aussie records for the O70W division,,, YES that is OVER 70! Greg Dalgarno putting together a ripper weekend running the 13m line of rounds which is super consistent for him and also helped him pocket top score of the weekend and pretty decent sized voucher to Epic Marine in Adelaide who sponsored the event winning the 1m+ division. Timi Also cleaning up her ability based division and so too Joey Ryan exorcizing some Demons after Fracturing his ankle at this tournament last year running a pretty solid 5@55kph 1 buoy short of that elusive 16m line. Both bringing home Gift vouchers as well AND then Moodemere was always going to be a cracker with virtually no Wind and skiers did not disappoint. 5 For those that are unaware it is 11.5m from the ski pole to the turn buoy!! Peter Pistol Cornale then missing that mark by skiing inside 1 ball to be only ½ buoy off of Gavs Mark!! Lucas Spud Gun Cornale then upping his own Aussie record in U10B and I have no doubt he will reset that again this year. Jack Christie also lined up on the dock with the Big Boys in the open division for the first time and was not intimidated at all skiing very much to the best scores he has had for the season so far. Miller McRae having a ripper tourney as well setting 3 new PB s in rounds which is an exceptional achievement to be that consistent. AND away from actual Competition some more amazing news in that Tom Golsworthy Jack and Bailey Christie will all compete at Junior Moomba masters this year. Jack will compete in All 3 events and Bailey in Trick. Both competed last year and will use that experience to their advantage. Tom has been invited to compete in the Jump event and has been training hard for this under the guidance of Gavin and after watching his sets on the weekend is as prepared as well as could be expected. Moomba has the largest spectator attendance of any tournament in the world and it is very much considered a must do tournament for all skiers. The level of Tournament we run at Cowra helps out with invitations to this event as athletes are selected from the world ranking lists. I ll share the Moomba webcast link on the Mildura Ski Club s and Cowra s Facebook pages closer to the event. AND on a personal note I have just achieved a level 3 Boat driver accreditation which is the highest level available in Australia and allows me to apply to drive at International events and World Title events. I believe that makes me our first member to achieve an international accreditation for an official? I could be wrong on that but that would be a question for one of our Life Member/Historians Greg Buchanan, Jeff Baker or Noel Harper. State Titles, Moomba and Nationals all to come in the next months so no rest at all!!! Thanks to all that have been working behind the scenes running Tourneys as well, they are not easy things to run and the extra hands are greatly appreciated. See you on the Water =) p.s. 7 nd Junior Development Day Our second junior development day went excellently with over 60 kids and adults, 10 boats and numerous amounts of helpers. We would like to thank all who came along and helped on the day and lent boats. Without you there wouldn t be great days like this to support our juniors! Malibu Just Ride tour This would be a great opportunity for all our junior development wakeboard kids to have a great session with some top riders. But get in fast spots fill up fast.
