2 PREVIEW : LOSC LILLE MÉTROPOLE - AC AJACCIO Feature Preview With Olympique Lyonnais breathing down their necks, LOSC Lille Métropole host AC Ajaccio on Sunday afternoon knowing they can ill afford a slip-up in their quest to secure a top-three finish and a return to the Champions League next season. Just a week ago, Lille still retained hope of winning a second consecutive Ligue 1 title. However, a shock 3-1 defeat at Brest - in which they never recovered from falling 2-0 down inside the opening ten minutes - coupled with two wins in five days for league leaders Montpellier have left LOSC ten points adrift of top spot. Instead, they are now looking over their shoulders, with Lyon just three points behind them as they seek to finish on the podium. French international full-back Mathieu Debuchy admitted this week that the squad are desperate to get the Brest setback out of their system but insisted that they remain on course to meet the target they set themselves at the campaign's outset. "The feeling of disappointment continues to hang over the squad because we got off to a dreadful start last Saturday," said Debuchy, who will miss this weekend's game due to suspension. "By conceding two goals so early on we made things a lot harder for ourselves. We wanted to keep our run going against Brest to stay in touch with the leaders. But regardless of that, our objective has not changed. Qualifying for the Champions League was always the goal. We know it will be tough right until the end because, both in front of us and behind us, our rivals are picking up points." Lille, who have spent 21 consecutive weeks in third spot since beating Lyon 3-1 on October 23, will be favourites to return to winning ways against the Corsicans. After all, they are traditionally strong at home and have lost just one of their last 11 meetings with Ajaccio. However, they needed an 80th-minute Eden Hazard penalty to win 3-2 when the teams last met at the Stade François-Coty in December, and Ajaccio have proven a tough team to beat ever since that day. Olivier Pantaloni's side sit one place and one point clear of the relegation zone and, while they are set for a scrap to the bitter end to beat the drop, they have done superbly well in recent months just to give themselves a fighting chance. After winning just once in their opening 17 games, their only defeats in their subsequent 14 matches have come away to the top two, Montpellier and Paris Saint-Germain. They are unbeaten in five games, with a 1-0 home win against Marseille being followed by four draws on the bounce. Last weekend, they came from behind to draw 1-1 at home against Saint-Etienne and full-back Samuel Bouhours remains confident both to his side's survival chances, and to their chances of springing a surprise in Lille. "It wasn't our best performance at home, but we still managed to create chances and get the equaliser. Six months ago, we would not have been able to do that," he said of the Saint-Etienne stalemate. "We are on course to reach the target we set ourselves at the start of the season. Then, if we had been told we would be 17th after 31 games, we would have accepted that. "Lille are the best team in the league. They have some great individual talents and together they make a great team. We know it's going to be a difficult game but it's not impossible. Our aim is to give our all and take something from the match." Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi returns after suspension but Mehdi Mostefa serves a one-match ban. In addition, Brazilian frontman Ilan, who is Ajaccio's leading scorer this season with five league goals, will miss the match after suffering a left thigh strain last weekend. Lille have considerable problems of their own, with Tulio De Melo suspended following his sending-off last weekend against Brest and Benoît Pedretti and Debuchy also banned. In addition, Florent Balmont has been struggling with an injured right thigh while it remains to be seen whether either Marko Basa (shoulder) or Aurélien Chedjou (hamstring) will be able to play any part following recent lay-offs. Eden Hazard will once again be the man to watch out for. He is LOSC's leading scorer with 14 league goals and has scored five times in Lille's last six games. If he features, he will be appearing in his 100th consecutive Ligue 1 game - the last match he missed was a goalless draw against Rennes in October /13/2012 Ligue de Football Professionnel / Ligue1.com 2

3 -HISTORY: Lille and Ajaccio have met on just six previous occasions in the North in the top flight. Lille have won three, Ajaccio have won two, and there has been one draw. -Ajaccio's previous top-flight wins in Lille came in June 1968 (2-1) and in May 2005 (2-0). That latter success is Ajaccio's only win in their last 11 meetings with Lille, home or away. -Lille won 2-0 when the clubs last met at the Stadium Lille Métropole in January Peter Odemwingie (now of West Bromwich Albion) and Daniel Gygax (now of FC Lucerne) got the goals that day. Mathieu Debuchy is the only survivor from either side that day. -Earlier this season, Lille beat Ajaccio 3-2 at the Stade François-Coty on December 3. Christian Kinkela (2') gave Ajaccio the lead, but Ludovic Obraniak (12') and Marko Basa (16') scored for Lille. Ilan (37') then equalised, only for Eden Hazard to win it for LOSC with an 80th-minute penalty. -There have been 13 goals in the last three meetings of the clubs, an average of 4.3 goals per game. -LOSC LILLE MÉTROPOLE -GENERAL: Lille come into Week 32 in third place in the Ligue 1 table with 56 points from 31 games. They trail leaders Montpellier by ten points and second-placed Paris Saint-Germain by seven, while they are just three points above Lyon in fourth. -Lille have been permanent fixtures in the top half since Week 3 and have spent 21 consecutive weeks in third since beating Lyon 3-1 on October 23. Last season's champions, they have not been higher than third all season. -Rudi Garcia's men have won 15, drawn 11 and lost five of their games to date. Only PSG (4) have lost fewer games, but only four sides have drawn more. -After losing 1-0 at home to Montpellier in Week 2, Lille went 17 league games unbeaten (9 wins, 8 draws) before a 2-0 defeat at Marseille in their first game of Since then, Lille have won six, drawn two and lost three of 11 games. -Lille have gone on a run of three straight league wins on four separate occasions this season, but have never managed to win four in a row. -LOSC's defeats have come against Montpellier (0-1, Wk 2), Marseille (2-0, Wk 20), Bordeaux (4-5, Wk 23), Lyon (2-1, Wk 27) and Brest (3-1, Wk 31). Lille have already lost one more game than in the whole of last season. -After 31 games last season, Lille were top of the table with 59 points. They were a point clear of Marseille and six ahead of Lyon in third. They won five and drew two of their last seven games to wrap up the title. -Last weekend, Lille lost 3-1 at Brest. Omar Daf (5') and Bruno Grougi (10', pen) put the home side in control before Dimitri Payet (27') pulled one back. Alexandre Alphonse (53') sealed Brest's win before Lille had Tulio De Melo sent off in the 70th minute. -The Lille line-up at Brest: Landreau; Debuchy, Cetto, Béria, Digne (Bruno, 89'); Mavuba (c), Pedretti (Gueye, 60'); Cole (Roux, 60'), Hazard, Payet; De Melo. -Garcia's side have scored 56 goals this season. Only leaders Montpellier (58) have scored more, while PSG have scored the same number. Lille have actually scored three more goals than they had at this stage last season (53). -They have scored three goals or more on ten occasions, and have failed to score at all in just five games. They have scored at least once in each of their last 11 games. -Eden Hazard is LOSC's leading scorer with 14 league goals, followed by the now-departed Moussa Sow (6). Aurélien Chedjou and Dimitri Payet both have five league goals. -Hazard has scored five goals in Lille's last six games. Six of his league goals this season have been penalties. He has 16 in all competitions, while Sow had ten in total before being sold to Fenerbahce. -Nolan Roux has scored 11 goals in total this season, including eight in Ligue 1. However, only five of these (4 in Ligue 1) have been for Lille. He scored five times in his first five appearances for Lille, but has not scored in his subsequent six appearances. -Eden Hazard has provided 11 assists this season, the most in Ligue 1 along with Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena. 4 laid on four goals. -If he plays, Eden Hazard will be appearing in his 100th consecutive Ligue 1 game. It is the longest current run without missing a game of any player in the French top flight. The last game that Hazard missed was a 0-0 draw with Rennes in October In his last 99 games, he has scored 26 goals, provided 30 assists and been fouled 369 times. -The defending champions have conceded 35 goals, giving them the joint sixth-best defence. Only Toulouse, Montpellier, Brest, PSG and Bordeaux have conceded fewer. -They have kept 11 clean sheets this season, while the 4-4 draw with Nice in December and February's 5-4 home defeat to Bordeaux are the only games in which they have conceded more than twice. -Goalkeeper Mickaël Landreau is the only Lille player - and one of only 11 players in Ligue 1 - to have started all 31 league games this season. Rio Mavuba (30 starts, one sub appearance) and Eden Hazard (28 starts, 3 sub appearances) have also featured in every game. -Lille are fourth in Ligue 1's Fair Play table. They have had three players sent off this season: Mathieu Debuchy (v Sochaux, Wk 6), Mauro Cetto (v Auxerre, Wk 26) and Tulio De Melo (v Brest, Wk 31). -Lille have not won any of the four games they have played this season without Mathieu Debuchy. -HOME FORM: Lille sit sixth in the table based on home form. They have won eight, drawn five and lost two of their 15 home games to date, collecting 29 points. -Lille's home defeats have come against Montpellier (0-1, Wk 2) and Bordeaux (4-5, Wk 23). -Since Rudi Garcia became Lille coach in the summer of 2008, Lille have never lost more than twice at home in one league season. -They have scored 35 goals and conceded 20 at home. -Lille have scored in 32 of their last 33 home games. The only exception was the 1-0 defeat to Montpellier in Week 2. -There have been 55 goals scored at the Stadium Lille Métropole this season, more than at any other Ligue 1 venue. -Eden Hazard has scored in each of Lille's last seven home games. He has netted eight goals in total in that run. -Lille's average gate is 16,957, the eighth-highest in Ligue 1. Their highest attendance to date is 17,906 against Marseille (Wk 4) while their lowest is 16,234 against Lorient (Wk 8). -CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Lille were eliminated at the group stage after finishing bottom of Group B, with six points. Lille's only win was a 2-0 success away to CSKA Moscow, although they did draw at home against CSKA as well as home and away against Trabzonspor. They lost both meetings with group winners Internazionale. -COUPE DE FRANCE: Last year's winners, Lille were beaten 2-1 away by northern neighbours Valenciennes in the Round of 16. -They had previously beaten US Chantilly 6-0 away in the Round of 64 and Compiègne 1-0 after extra-time in a Round-of-32 tie played in Beauvais. -COUPE DE LA LIGUE: LOSC were beaten 2-1 away by Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-finals, having beaten Sedan 3-1 at home in the Round of 16. -TROPHÉE DES CHAMPIONS: Lille lost 5-4 to Marseille in the traditional season-opener in Tangier, Morocco, despite leading 2-0 and then TRANSFERS: Lille made three signings in January, with Nolan Roux joining from Brest on a four-and-a-half year deal. They also signed teenage Costa Rican attacker John Jairo Ruiz from Deportivo Saprissa on a deal until the summer of 2016, while Argentine centre-back Mauro Cetto arrived on loan from Palermo until the summer. -Two players were sold in January, with Senegal striker Moussa Sow leaving for Fenerbahce in Turkey and Ludovic Obraniak joining Bordeaux. In addition, Omar Wadé was loaned to Turkish second tier club Boluspor Kulübü and goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja joined third-tier side Aviron Bayonnais until the summer. -TEAM NEWS: SUSPENSIONS: Tulio De Melo serves a one-game ban following his sending-off last weekend against Brest. Dimitri Payet can play before serving a suspension next weekend at Dijon. -INJURIES: Florent Balmont has been struggling with an injured right thigh. Marko Basa hasn't played since mid-january because of a shoulder injury but did feature for the reserves last weekend. Aurélien Chedjou has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in the win at Evian TG on March 24. -AC AJACCIO -GENERAL: Ajaccio come into Week 32 in 17th place in Ligue 1 with 33 points, one point clear of the relegation zone. -Ajaccio have won seven, drawn 12 and lost 12 of their games to date. They won just one of their first 17 league games, but since then their record reads: P14, W6, D6, L2 Pts24. Their only defeats in that time have come away to the top two, Montpellier and Paris Saint-Germain, and in that time only Montpellier and PSG have taken more points (30 and 27 respectively). -The Corsicans have lost just one of their last eight league games, although they have drawn five of these. They are unbeaten in five, following up a 1-0 home win against Marseille with four consecutive draws. -The highest they have been all season is 13th after beating Marseille in Week 27. They have spent 18 weeks in the relegation zone, and ten consecutive weeks (from Wk 11-20) bottom of the table. -Last weekend, Olivier Pantaloni's side drew 1-1 with Saint-Etienne at the Stade François-Coty. Florent Sinama-Pongolle (72') put Les Verts in front before Carl Medjani (78') equalised for Ajaccio with his second goal of the season. -The Ajaccio line-up against Saint-Etienne: Ochoa; Diawara, Medjani, Poulard, Bouhours (Lasne, 31'); Mostefa; André, Ilan (Sammaritano, 46'), Cavalli (c) (Kinkela, 75'), Tibéri; Eduardo. -Ajaccio have scored 32 goals in their 31 games to date. Only four teams have scored fewer. Their 3-1 home win over Valenciennes in Week 5 is the only league games this season in which they have scored more than twice, while they have failed to score at all in eight games. They have scored just eight times in their last ten outings. -Ilan is the side's leading scorer with five goals, followed by Eduardo and Frédéric Sammaritano with four each. Eduardo scored all of his goals in his first six appearances after signing from Lens in January while Sammaritano has not scored since September 10. -Christian Kinkela and Johan Cavalli are the side's leading assist providers with five each. Four of Kinkela's assists have come from dead balls, compared to only one for Cavalli. -Ajaccio have had just 101 shots on goal this season, fewer than any other club in Ligue 1. -The promoted club have conceded 50 goals. Only Dijon (51) have let in more coming into the weekend. They have kept five clean sheets this season, while they have conceded three goals or more on eight occasions, including in 4-1 defeats at Auxerre in Week 4 and at PSG in Week 26. -No Ajaccio player has featured in every game, but goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has started 30 of his team's 31 games. However, Yoann Poulard has started 27 games. -Ajaccio are bottom of the Fair Play table, having collected more bookings (79) than any other team, as well as six red cards. 6 away games but their only defeats in their last seven away outings have come at Montpellier and PSG. -COUPE DE LA LIGUE: The Corsicans were knocked out at the first hurdle, losing 1-0 at Ligue 2 Le Mans in the Round of 32. -COUPE DE FRANCE: After winning 3-0 at third-tier Fréjus Saint Raphaël in the Round of 64, Ajaccio were beaten 3-2 after extra-time at fourth-tier Bourg-Péronnas in the Round of 32. -TRANSFERS: Ajaccio made three signings in the January window, capturing Eduardo from Lens on an 18-month deal, along with David Gigliotti from Arles-Avignon and the Brazilian-born Felipe Saad from Evian TG FC. -Young striker Andy Delort was loaned to Metz, while Jackson Mendy left the club for Greek side Levadiakos. -TEAM NEWS: SUSPENSIONS: Mehdi Mostefa serves a one-match suspension. Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi returns after a one-game ban. Anthony Lippini can expect to receive a ban when he goes before the LFP disciplinary committee on April 19 in relation to a clash with Lorient's Mathieu Coutadeur in a game last month. -INJURIES: Ilan is out after suffering a left thigh strain last weekend against Saint-Etienne. Samuel Bouhours has returned to training after recovering from an ankle gash. Fabrice Begeorgi has not played since suffering a serious knee injury at the end of August, while Felipe Saad has yet to make his debut for the club because of a hamstring injury and Leyti N'Diaye (calf) has not featured since late January. -TRIVIA: Yoann Poulard, Tulio De Melo and Laurent Bonnart were teammates at Le Mans until Poulard left for Brest in Poulard also played with Marko Basa in his final season in the Sarthe. -Dimitri Payet played alongside Ilan, David Gigliotti and Fousseni Diawara during his time at Saint-Etienne. -Frédéric Sammaritano played alongside both Benoît Pedretti and Ireneusz Jelen at Auxerre last season. -Nolan Roux and Richard Socrier both played key roles in helping Brest win promotion to Ligue 1 in Roux scored 15 goals in that promotion campaign, Socrier netted six. -Eden Hazard was nominated for the Ligue 1 player of the month award for March along with Olivier Giroud (Montpellier) and Aymen Abdennour (Toulouse). -Former Lille midfielder Yohan Cabaye, now of Newcastle United, visited his old teammates at Lille's Domaine de Luchin training ground this week. Fellow former players Bruno Cheyrou and Pierre-Alain Frau also visited this week. -Ajaccio president Alain Orsoni this week ended his hunger strike in protest against the decision to remand his son Guy in custody. Guy Orsoni has been prison in Marseille since April last year in relation to four separate murders. Alain Orsoni had gone on hunger strike for 48 days but recently collapsed and ended the strike after a court refused his son's request to be released on bail. -A bar-restaurant in Ajaccio owned by Johan Cavalli was the target of a bomb attack this week. Nobody was injured but damage was caused. LOSC Lille Métropole - The season saw Lille break a host of club records as they swept to a Ligue1-French Cup double, bringing major silverware to the north of France for the first time in over half a century. - Lille had last won the league in 1954, and the Coupe de France in 1955, ending a trophy drought whose only consolations had been four Ligue 2 titles (1964, '74, '78 and 2000) and an Intertoto Cup (2005). - Lille have won two Ligue 1 crowns (1946, '54) and finished runners-up five times (1948, '49, '50, '51 and 2005). 7 - In the Champions League campaign Lille played all their home matches at the Stade de France in Paris, because their regular home - the Stadium Métropole Villeneuve d'ascq - did not meet UEFA requirements. The club used neighbouring Lens' Stade Bollaert for its European matches in the season. - Lille earned an historic 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Stade de France in the Champions League and became the first French side to register an away win over AC Milan (2-0) the following year. - Lille have finished in the top ten for the last eight seasons and have taken part in the last two UEFA Cup/Europa League campaigns, eliminated 3-1 on aggregate by Liverpool in 's round of 16 and 5-3 by PSV Eindhoven in the round of 32 in Lille finished season with the best attack in France (for the second year running), their 68 goals eclipsing second-placed OM's tally of 62.
