When Solent striker Hammond was sent flying by a visiting defender, skipper Penny hit the side netting with the free-kick. It was Hamble who took a fifth minute lead when a loose Solent pass gave away possession and a low cross by Wilson was netted from close range by RAMOS. Solent tried to hit back as a further Penny effort seemed to squirm from the grasp of Monks keeper McCarthy but he recovered it. Mitchell s low shot brought a further save from McCarthy who was later beaten by a 35-yard Penny effort, but the ball bounced onto the top of the bar and over. McCarthy then denied a 20-yard Ethan Taylor shot, the Solent man having two further opportunities, but McCarthy dived to thwart him again and next his low drive missed the post. McCarthy was in action again as Taylor had a further effort on goal, this time he pushed the ball behind for a corner. It was from that flag-kick, taken by Taylor, that Solent levelled when BYRNE arrived in the six-yard box to fire home. Despite Solent s pressure, Ramos reminded them that he was a dangerous customer, his shot coming off the base of the post. Solent pressed further as a Hammond effort was headed off the line by Gange. Close to half-time, a long pass forward by Byrne sent Taylor down the right and his intelligent ball across to Hammond saw McCarthy in action once again, deflecting the effort clear with his foot. HT 1-1 The second half didn t really happen for Team Solent. They had a decent share of ball possession, but they lacked that cutting edge in the box. Hamble nudged back in front when a heavy challenge on Baldwin was let go and RAMOS fired low beyond Londors. Both Ramos and Solent s Eaton were high off the mark for their teams. It was getting late with Hamble holding on to their narrow lead, but their cause wasn t helped when Ghosh was shown a second yellow card following a heavy challenge in midfield on 87 minutes. Hammond glanced a Wallace cross just past the post whilst Mitchell battled his way through, but his low shot was too near to the keeper, which was rather typical of the home side s on target attempts in this half. McCarthy held a Taylor free-kick high which proved to be the final chance of the night. FT 1-2 To add to a disappointing Solent evening, Wallace was shown a red card for a comment made to an official after the final whistle. Hopefully, he will think about the consequences when he sits on the side-lines soon. Overall, Solent failed to build on a promising first half as their efforts often lacked accuracy and, when on target, lacked venom. Cup-wise only the Hampshire Senior remains for Solent now. So, many congratulations to Hamble Club Reserves who worked hard as a team and did their bit to frustrate their opponents and therefore fragment the flow of the game and hold on to their 2-1 advantage. Good luck to Hamble Club Reserves for the rest of the competition. Mike Robins writes ROMSEY TOWN 2-3 UNITED SERVICES PORTSMOUTH THE hosts were ahead inside a minute, when a break down the Car Park side saw a simple cross stroked home by Liam MAGEE. Romsey certainly started quickly and had a decent chance to go two up through Clifton Sunday, 14 October /19 Edition #17 Page 3 of 24

4 shortly after, but then did so on 12. A free kick to the far post fell nicely for Pearce FARREN who cheekily back heeled it into the net by chance or design. Romsey had further chances to extend the lead with both Cotillard and Clifton testing Hunt in the United Services goal. The visitors first real chance didn t materialise until after the half hour when Romsey skipper Draycott was well placed to clear off the line to keep it at 2-0. However with six minutes of the half left, Harry POTTER worked an opening under pressure to net from a corner at the back post. HT 2-1 Services came out a different side and threatened an equaliser early on when a 20 yard shot from Dark cannoned to safety off the upright., and ten minutes after the resumption Philpott had to be alert to react to a Potter strike to keep the hosts ahead. Dark also had a couple of good chances to square the game. Romsey s Mouland collected a second yellow card and you began to sense that the tide was on the turn, moreso when, with 15 minutes left on the clock it was when James FRANKLYN converted. Romsey pressed forward with some urgency to restore their lead with Clifton making a number of probing runs, but the hosts conceded another silly free kick and Harry SARGEANT rose at the back post and had a free header to round off the proceedings. FT 2-3 Gary Day writes SHOLING 8-0 QK SOUTHAMPTON HISTORY shows this to be the fifth meeting between these teams in this competition, each side in their various past guises, having won twice. The two teams fortune this season couldn t be much different as Sholing, top of the Wessex and one hundred per cent, met QK who are situated one off the bottom of the Hampshire Premier League. Even though they had an FA Vase match coming up next, Sholing put out a strong line-up for the game. Sholing set about their task early on with QK s Shergold blocking a Brewster shot on the line, QK keeper Parker saving a Connor shot and Dan Mason firing wide and just after, missing his kick. It was looking to be a tough night for the visiting team and the first goal materialised after 18 minutes ROUNDELL put Sholing in front applying a final near post touch following a good ball in by Byron Mason. Bagley got in two blocks to deny shots by both Targett and Dan Mason as did Gain, again from a Mason effort. Bagley did well to clear again following a five-man passing move that resulted in a Targett header. On 27 minutes Targett was upended inside the penalty box by Shergold and Sholing were awarded a penalty which Dan MASON took, Parker doing well to get his hand to it but it was a powerful kick and continued into the net. Sholing s Brewster s 25-yard free-kick struck the QK bar and D Mason headed the rebound wide. Nine minutes before the break a further Sholing goal came when Cuthbertson crossed in and Dan MASON fired home. HT 3-0 The Boatmen who d already replaced Castle late in the half, made an interval sub as Dan Mason was replaced by Wort. Parker made an excellent save from Wort after a free-kick into the box had been played on by Roundell. Eight minutes after the re-start, a good Sholing move saw Mackey find Targett whose intelligent play saw him pass across to WORT who was left with a straight forward finish. Sunday, 14 October /19 Edition #17 Page 4 of 24

5 Just shy of the hour WORT netted again when a QK back pass sold the keeper short, he charged the ball down and was left an open goal. Sholing s pressure was unwavering as Targett shot off the post and he then supplied a cross to Wort who headed wide. TARGETT was sent clear down the right and shot across the keeper and in off the far post to net a deserved goal, with 73 minutes gone. A rare QK attack saw Akintolu head over from close in after a good passing move and a Bellows cross in. With three minutes remaining WORT collected the ball and fired through the keeper, and within a minute with his fourth of the night, after QK had lost possession, he latched on to a Cuthbertson pass and fired in. FT 8-0 Difficult though it proved, the QK boys never gave in and did try to play a passing game when briefly in possession but, as the score suggests, there was a clear overall winner. Roger Allen writes FAREHAM TOWN 3-1 HAMWORTHY UNITED THE game started at a terrific pace and Fareham were the fastest out of the blocks as it took Hamworthy a few minutes to settle in. However once they did, the away side dominated and had several chances to score as they put Derek Harding in the home goal under pressure. Particularly from corners his handling looked uncertain at times but he also made several good blocking saves. The opening goal for Fareham came against the run of play after 27 minutes when Nathan PAXTON struck a sweet shot from the edge of the penalty area across keeper Rees into the corner of the net. Hamworthy continued to dominate but just before half time Simon WOODS, whose first game this was since his return from AFC Portchester, scored with a strong shot from the edge of the penalty area into the roof of the net to put Fareham two up. The Hammers hit back immediately and striker River SMITH, who was lively all game, provided a clinical finish. All three goals were excellent strikes in a half that finished at 2-1. The early exchanges in the second half were even but the decisive moment came in the 58th minute when Lewis Plackett was brought down just inside the penalty area. WOODS was trusted with the penalty kick which he tucked safely away. Shortly after Hamworthy were reduced to 10 as James Rowe was dismissed for a rash push on a Fareham player, after earlier being cautioned. Worse was to follow as they were reduced to 9 when Nathaniel Peprah- Annan was also sent off for a second yellow card for a shove in the back of an advancing Fareham forward. And that was the end of the game as a competitive match. Hamworthy knew that their numerical shortfall meant they were going to return home with no points and Fareham were content to play out the game without forcing the pace. FT 3-1 Mike Robins writes FAWLEY 0-2 NEWPORT IOW NEITHER side showed real urgency in the opening exchanges, although Fawley probably had the better of the game, but the shots were somewhat wayward and failed to trouble the visiting custodian. The best chance of a lacklustre half came from Ollie Bradley which was well saved by Ryan Hall, at the Clubhouse End Newport s George Holmes threatened to get an opener, but the Oilers defence thwarted the chance and, in another move, Tom Parker-Trott saved well. A somewhat elaborate overhead kick from Southwick ended the half. HT 0-0 Sunday, 14 October /19 Edition #17 Page 5 of 24

6 Holmes started where he had left off and again the AFC Bournemouth Academy keeper Parker-Trott made a good save, and close to the hour mark made an even more impressive save when Joe Craig s through ball was curled goalwards by skipper Jared Wetherick. Craig and Wetherick both came close but found the Fawley stopper in good form. With just ten minutes left, Fawley had a good opportunity to score. Breaking in from the right Tom Munday fired goalwards but could only hit the side netting. Minutes later WETHERICK was able to lash the ball home after some bagatelle work in the home penalty area to put port in the driving seat. It was somewhat surprising that they extended their lead in the final minute of normal time when WETHERICK again was in the right place at the right time curling a shot beyond the outstretched arm of Parker-Trott. FT 0-2 Gary Day writes HYTHE & DIBDEN 5-1 DOWNTON HYTHE & DIBDEN continued their fine start to the campaign to go three points clear at the very top of the Wessex Division 1 table with a convincing win against Downton. Telfer, for the Robins, almost brought his side an early lead but his half-volley struck the Hythe bar. Woodward and Ngwa had efforts blocked whilst a further Woodward effort missed the post. Woodward was again involved in a Hythe attack and was credited with an assist, laying a square pass to TESSEM who took his time and fired low into the corner and 1-0 on 13 minutes. The same two players were involved in their second goal but this time Tessem turned provider as his cross-field pass found WOODWARD who d got behind the visitors defence and lashed a low shot home. That goal came on 31 minutes and just four minutes later Hythe netted their third when Prentice found Tessem whose touch on found NGWA whose firm shot went in off the keeper. The experienced Tessem was running the Hythe midfield and he played a neat pass to Prentice who returned the ball to the Norwegian international whose shot was blocked by the legs of Downton keeper Gunstone-Gray to concede a corner. HT 3-0 Crisp tried a 25-yard effort for the Robins in the opening minutes of the second half but home keeper Grant just managed to tip the ball over the bar. Downton did get one back just after though as a Galec pass behind the Hythe back line put in TYSON who fired home. A decent spell for the visitors put Grant in action again, this time blocking from Savage following a good pass by McGregor. Play settled from here and the Hythe two goal advantage seldom looked under any further threat. With time progressing into the latter stages Downton s Steer had a shot that just missed the far post from a Tyson pass. Shortly after a neat turn in the box by Ngwa was too slick for a Downton defender and Hythe were awarded a penalty which O DELL [pen] netted, low via a touch by Gunstone-Gray. So, 4-1 to Hythe and they looked for more as a Tessem free-kick was well pushed over by Gunstone-Gray but there was still time for a fifth home goal when from a right-wing corner, their subs combined as Fay got in a header that went in off SWITZER. Clarke made a good run, but his shot was deflected off a home defender for a corner. FT 5-1 Having only finished in the top half of Division 1 twice in the past nine seasons it is good to see Hythe competing for the top places. They play some good football with the evergreen Tessem proving to be a fine catalyst. It was certainly an entertaining game with Downton making a good contribution and it was also played in a fine spirit too. With an attendance of 61 it looks like the good folk of this area are beginning to take a little more notice of their improvement too. Elsewhere- Baffins scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half through Tyler MORET in a game where chances were few and far between. Lymington pushed for a goal late in the second period forcing two decent saves although in all honesty had Baffins finishing had been better they would have been out of the game by then. In north Dorset Shaftesbury and Christchurch shared the points in a goalless draw and despite ending with ten men after losing Douglas, threatening to get something out of the game. 7 FOOTBALL IN THE FOREST Continuing our look at various geographical factions in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) over the last ten seasons we turn our attention to the Clubs in the New Forest with a problem to overcome at the very start. Living in the far frozen north of the County I am unsure as to the boundaries of the Forest and different people asked have provided different answers so journalistic licence has been used with the following results and apologies if I have got it wrong not an unusual occurrence. Bashley have been included because they are at the heart of the Forest and it is doubtful if the relatively small number of games they have played greatly affect the overall outcome. As per the other tables in this series the Clubs are listed in points per game order. PL W D L F A GD PTS PPG CHRISTCHURCH HOME AWAY BROCKENHURST HOME AWAY BASHLEY HOME AWAY RINGWOOD TOWN HOME AWAY LYMINGTON HOME AWAY VERWOOD TOWN HOME AWAY NEW MILTON TOWN HOME AWAY Lymington were members of the throughout the ten year period under review and did not meet Ringwood in a League fixture. Strange also that New Milton s record away from home is far superior to that at home. There have only been four goalless draws a remarkable low number - and there have been just two instances of sides scoring six and one of seven. 2008/09 Lymington Town 0 New Milton Town 6 [Dominic Allen 3] 2010/11 Christchurch 6 New Milton Town 0 [Ben Dickenson 3] 2017/18 Verwood Town 3 Ringwood Town 7 [River Smith 3] And finally probably the closest rivalry is between Brockenhurst and Lymington and the home record of each Club against the other reads thus, virtually all square! 8 THE FA YOUTH CUP This is a competition that is largely ignored by the Media and TV until it reaches the semi-final stage at the end of the season but it starts in September with a very large list of entries from Clubs across the whole football spectrum. These include a number of Clubs in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) commencing in the Preliminary Qualifying Round. This Round sadly involved a large number of walk overs across the Country as clubs seemingly changed their minds, could not raise a side or were unhappy with the standard of the scheduled opposition or the travel in respect of same. The PRELIMINARY ROUND results included the following:- Andover Town 1-0 aet Ardley Christchurch 1-6 Team Solent Sholing 4-0 Salisbury Alton 1-9 Bracknell Town Ardley who took their hosts to extra time- play in the Hellenic League, whilst Bracknell play in the Isthmian South Central. FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND Totton & Eling 5-3 Sholing Team Solent 5-4 aet Poole Town Brockenhurst 8-2 Farnborough AFC Stoneham 1-0 AFC Portchester Andover Town 4-0 Bracknell Town SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND Kidlington 0-4 Andover Town AFC Stoneham 1-4 Brockenhurst Totton & Eling 3-1 AFC Totton Almondsbury 0-1 Team Solent Kidlington is a small town just north of Oxford and the senior team are in the Southern League Division 1 Central, whilst Almondsbury, like Ardley, are members of the Hellenic League. The Stoneham Brockenhurst game was abandoned due to a floodlight failure before this week s replayed game that ended in victory for the Badgers, who are coached by former AFC Bournemouth midfielder John Bailey. The draw for the THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND is: Welwyn Garden City v Andover Town Team Solent v Moneyfields Clevedon Town v Brockenhurst Didcot Town v Totton & Eling Welwyn and Didcot both play in the Southern League Division 1 Central with Clevedon plying their trade in the Western League. The First Round draw has also been made, and Swindon Town will be at home to the winners of the Solent Moneyfields tie, whilst Torquay United or Yate Town will host Didcot Tow or Totton & Eling. Cirencester Town or Aldershot will be hosting the winner of the Clevedon Brockenhurst tie whilst Welwyn or Andover will travel to Phoenix Sports or Hampton & Richmond Borough. Good luck to all and Andover Town will be aware that Welwyn recorded a 20-0 victory over Cheshunt in one of the earlier rounds. Sunday, 14 October /19 Edition #17 Page 8 of 24

Poppies set their stall out quite early. Kicking towards the Winton End, Neronski and Flynn both had chances in the opening minutes the former seeing his shot deflected by the visiting custodian Adam Dower and the latter seeing the upright deny a 22 yard strike hitting the net. Newquay contributed to the game on 23 when Alex Cole s shot was only partially saved by Sam Jones, who reacted quickly to get up off the deck and save the follow up effort from Hayden Turner. However within a minute the deadlock was broken. Fawzi Saadi s cross in from the right was met by Steve FLYNN unmarked at the back post to head home. Just two minutes later, Mickey FINCH doubled the lead with a great turn and finish inside the penalty area. Newquay s Jose Perez and Cole again had half chances to get back into the game, but in reality it was all over bar the shouting four minutes before the break, when Charlie LANGSTON lobbed a ball into the penalty area and Dower under pressure from Finch could only watch the ball drop into the net. In the dying moments of the half, Ali ZINTANY somehow squeezed the ball home in a crowded area. Poppies domination had seen them create over a dozen attempts in the opening 45. HT 4-0 The Peppermints made a couple of changes at the break and their defence was stiffened as a result and the second half was a much quieter affair and Poppies could have extended their lead on several occasions- taking shots instead of trying to walk the ball in, some wayward finished and some heroic saves from Dower kept the score down to a respectable level- including a player falling over the ball when a goal beckoned. With the Peppermints tiring, FLYNN added a fifth with four minutes left which had been a long time coming and got his well deserved hat trick in added on time thereby giving the score a more re[presentative account of the one-way traffic. 12 Gary Day writes LYMINGTON TOWN 1-4 TEAM SOLENT TEAM SOLENT picked up their first Wessex Premier win of the season with a 4-1 success at Lymington, their fourth victory in five visits to the Sports Ground. The teams were locked at 1-1 moving into the latter stages when a quickfire three-goal salvo by Ethan Taylor (to add to another goal in the first half) did the damage against a much-changed home side. Town keeper Newman produced an early save after Solent skipper Penny s fine pass attempted to put Kasimu behind the Town defensive lines. The keeper collected an early booking for bringing down Kasimu just outside the box and Penny s well flighted free-kick came off the underside of the bar. Solent went in front on 20 minutes when some slick passing between Penny and Kasimu produced an opening for TAYLOR who slotted past Newman and into the far corner. This prompted a reaction from the home side but efforts by Ross, King and Gosney were off the mark whilst Kasimu ran across the home box but shot wide. Town s Cross popped up at both ends, first clearing off the line after Taylor s corner was met by a glancing Kasimu header and he instantly appeared in the other penalty area but headed wide. With the unusually warm weather the half often felt like an end of season game between two mid-table sides at times, but it was Solent who held the interval advantage. HT 0-1 Good play down the left by Solent s Bennett produced a chance for Taylor whose snapshot went over. Lymington levelled when the ball was played down the right and, with Londors semi-committed, Willett played it inside and presented a tap in for King. Kasimu went down under a heavy challenge in the home box but the ref didn t consider it to be unfair and a good Taylor run produced a shot into the side netting. Solent sub Obeng created a further chance for Taylor but his effort was well blocked. Willett headed off the underside of the Solent bar, the ball came back to him and he would have been disappointed to have directed the follow up header over. With eight minutes remaining Solent edged back in front when Bennett s pass found TAYLOR who neatly finished. Obeng controlled well but his firm strike was straight at Newman. Bennett had a chance but tried to place his shot, Newman making the save. TAYLOR was fouled as he weaved his way into the box and took the spot-kick himself, sending Newman the wrong way to complete his hattrick. TAYLOR s fourth goal was a fine effort, collecting the ball just inside his own half the Solent forward ran through the middle and finished with a clever dinked shot past the keeper. There was a further opportunity in stoppage time as Eaton found sub Demunga but his effort brought a further save from Newman. FT 1-4 It was a poor final period of the game for Town and Solent took full advantage. The goals were Taylor s first in the league this season but he s now in double figures in all competitions. The victory takes Solent off the Aunt Sally spot in the ladder and should give them the confidence to look ahead to the hard work that s still needed if they are to move into a safer mid-table position. John Gorman writes ANDOVER TOWN 1-4 BADSHOT LEA REPRIEVED from joining the competition until this stage because of past results Andover Town could find themselves back at square one in next Season s FA Vase after this fairly comprehensive defeat. Visitors Badshot Lea are one level higher, playing in the Combined Counties, and on the day deserved their win but both sides can surely play better and the game will not live in anyone s memory for very long. Town have a history this season of conceding early goals and almost did so in the opening twenty seconds when they gave the ball away and Lea striker Jack May, probably the game s outstanding player, was allowed a free run in to the area and was only foiled by a smart save from Dave Tasker in the home goal. The visitors looked the sharper and Andover s cause was not helped when Jordan Ragguette pulled up in pursuit of a through ball and limped off with less than ten minutes played. Solomon Mawo fastened on to another through ball with the defence caught square and was stopped by a challenge by keeper Jordan Clement on the edge of the area. Both players needed treatment with Clement only lasting a couple of Sunday, 14 October /19 Edition #17 Page 12 of 24

13 minutes before he too limped off. Badshot had only named two substitutes but thankfully for them one, in Tom Chase, was a goalkeeper. Home skipper Brendan Holmes had sixty seconds he could have done without when he conceded a free kick on the edge of the area, was struck painfully amidships by the ensuing clearance and then booked for his challenge to in effect add insult to injury. Twenty five minutes gone and Town nearly broke the deadlock as a low cross from Jaco Castillo-McPherson found Mawo at the far post but keeper Chase blocked the shot with his legs. The orange shirted visitors still looked the more dangerous and Josh Francis, finding himself in a similar position to Mawo at the other end, pulled his shot wastefully across the goal. Eight minutes before halftime the deadlock was broken and the following ten minutes in effect decided the game, Town were awarded a rather soft looking penalty which Shaquille GWENGWE drilled home but the advantage lasted only two minutes as a low cross from the right was missed by the entire Andover defence leaving Liam ROBERTS with a simple tap in at the far post. Into the stoppage time added because of the two early injuries and Badshot scored again. Full back Josh Pound sent Francis away down the left, Tasker came for a ball he was never going to reach and a clever lob put the visitors in front. The keeper redeemed himself by tipping a goal bound header from May on to the bar and Roberts struck the outside of the post to end a furious five minutes and the half. HT 1-2 The history of early goals already mentioned came to the fore with a vengeance on the re-start as they gave the ball away under no pressure and the cross from the left was headed home by MAY. Three one and effectively game over. Mark Keogh almost pulled the shirt off an opponent s back and was awarded a free kick for his efforts, May hit the side netting after the defence left a ball to each other and Tasker twice saved close range efforts. Two Andover corners in quick succession produced no reward before with some fifteen minutes remaining the game was finally put out of the home side s reach. May went down under a challenge in the area, it again looked soft but the referee can only give what he sees and James PILGRIM made no mistake from the spot. The usual raft of late substitutions ensued and there were close shaves at each end as Gwengwe beat the keeper and the far post after breaking clear and Roberts blazed over from close range at the other end after the best move of the match had left him clear. The last action rather fittingly saw Tasker save from May, probably the two outstanding players from what was in truth a poor game. 18 BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS We hear that another youngster has connections to the British Virgin Islands. New Milton s Charles Medway has been named in their squad for Nations League qualifiers against Suriname and Martinique. This article comes from the latest edition of the New Milton Advertiser. New Milton Town footballer Charles Medway has been handed the chance of a lifetime after being called up by the British Virgin Islands. The versatile 16-year-old, a regular for New Milton in Wessex One this season, has been named in their squad for Nations League qualifiers against Suriname and Martinique. Medway has already represented the country at youth level and earned his place after impressing during a training camp at the end of last season. The youngster, who was raised in Poole, has a grandparent from the British overseas territory in the Caribbean and also qualifies as he holds a UK passport. Medway yesterday (Thursday) linked up with the squad and flew to Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, to continue preparations for the Nations League double-header. He could make his debut when the British Virgin Islands face Suriname tomorrow (Saturday) or against Martinique in Fort-de-France on Tuesday. Medway, who can operate in defence or midfield, was previously on the books of Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth. Following his release by the Cherries, he joined Champion Sports and is now a full-time member of the Dorset-based football development programme. New Milton manager Patrick Wilson is one of Medway s coaches at Champion Sports, while its founder, Dan Neville, is assistant national team coach of the British Virgin Islands. Neville told the A&T: Charles has a real chance. He is athletic, he has pace and is honest and very hard working. He has a lot of very good habits. Providing he stays focussed, I could see him having a great career in the game. Not many 16-year-olds are playing regularly at Wessex One level never mind having a chance to play in the Nations League. It is an amazing opportunity for everyone. Everybody in the squad understands how big these games are for us and we are really looking forward to them. The British Virgin Islands had been due to play Martinique last month but were evacuated after the match was postponed due to Hurricane Isaac. Medway is one of several young players in the squad as the country currently 203rd in the FIFA world rankings looks to build for the World Cup in 2026, which takes place in United States, Canada and Mexico. Neville added: Our ultimate aim is to qualify for the 2026 finals and that is why we are playing our younger players now because we feel they will be in their prime at that time. Outwardly, it probably seems overly optimistic but we have some very good players in the age groups. Also, as the World Cup is being played in America, Canada and Mexico, they are guaranteed places so there will be extra ones up for grabs from our qualifying groups. It would normally be a pipe dream for a country like the British Virgin Islands to qualify but when you take out those three and perhaps Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, it is a reasonably level playing field if you do things correctly and build up to it.
