FROM THE BOARDROOM Good Afternoon All and welcome to the Simplyhealth City Ground for today s Evo-Stik League South Division One South fixture between Winchester City FC and Bristol Manor Farm FC. Welcome to all the players, coaching staff, officials and supporters that have made the journey across from the West Country, we hope you have an enjoyable day with us and have a safe journey home. WCFC go into this afternoon s game on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 victory over local rivals, AFC Totton. Rob Flooks put City ahead before Justin Bennett drew the visitors level. Jack Smith was then sent off for the away side but Jamie Barron scored a late winner for City, scoring a rebound after his initial penalty was saved by Shane Murphy. That victory has sent City back into the play-off positions with just four games remaining (including this afternoon). After today, we travel to Melksham Town at 3pm on Good Friday before we have another local derby, this time at home to Blackfield & Langley, at 3pm on Easter Monday. On the final game of the regulation season, City travel to Cinderford Town. There are still spaces available on the coach for both trips to Melksham and Cinderford click on the link to secure your space: The players, committee and supporters have a thoroughly enjoyable evening with Pizza & Darts on Thursday evening thank-you to everyone that came along. Get behind the boys today and let s hope for another three vital points #youcitizens

DAVO S DIARY Good afternoon and a warm welcome to everyone for today s exciting league match against Bristol Manor Farm. I wish their players, management and supporters a pleasant afternoon and a safe trip home afterwards. Mark my words Bristol Manor Farm will be a tough test, they have an abundance of very talented players and are as good as anyone we have played against. We will need to be at our best to get the result that we want. Tuesday was a tough old game... never easy playing against local rivals, Totton are a good side and have a number of very good players, plus the added spice of it being a derby was always going to make it hard, not forgetting that our record against Totton in the last 2 years has been poor! I thought we played reasonably well, nowhere near to the levels that we can be, we played some nice football though and were the deserved winners in my view. We went ahead early through Flooksy and really should have built on that, instead we came in level after they equalised just before the break. 2nd half they had a little bit of a more even share of possession without creating anything, then the red card for an elbow on Oli Bailey, from that point on we were in control and scored through a fairly blatant penalty again on Oli, Baz pen was saved but slotted the rebound, we then had countless chances to finish the job but had to settle for a 2-1 in the end, that will do though!! A big win for us and another show of how our disciplinary record has played a big part. Player news, we had a number of availability issues on Tuesday due to work and traffic issues which wasn t ideal. Today we will have Graham Williams missing and Long-term absentees Brendan Norris, Griggy and George Short, other than that we will have a full squad to choose from. One positive thing regards the availability issues it meant we put 17 year old youth team captain Jack Francis into the squad, that is now 16 youth team players that have been involved in 1st team fixtures this season, we pride ourselves on our development of our young players, we also have a lot of youngsters out on loan at Wessex clubs, this aids their development and hopefully they come back ready to push for a place with us, they are in our plans and I get reports on them all of the time, we take care and pride in every player who is at the club, they are all representing me and WCFC whenever they play elsewhere and all have been exemplary and I am very pleased with them all. We are trying to do things right on and off the pitch. Just as with our discipline record on the pitch and from the dugout, we are 2nd in fair play league after winning it last year, we haven t had any cautions for dissent this year and again I m proud of that and long may that continue. So back to today, it s going to be another tough battle but one that we need to go into full of confidence having picked up 9 wins and 1 draw from our last 10 home games, lets give it a good go!! We need your support as always. Up the citizens! Davo

TODAY S VISITORS BRISTOL MANOR FARM CLUB HISTORY Bristol Manor Farm Football Club was formed for the 1960/'61 season before disbanding and reforming for the start of the 1962/'63 campaign. Our ground here at The Creek used to be the site of the Port of Bristol Authority Sports & Social Club. In 1965 when the authority moved to new premises, Manor Farm took it over, making it our permanent home. Having a base of our own enabled the club to apply successfully to join the Somerset Senior League where we made good progress through the divisions. In 1977 the club decided to step up to the Western League, joining the First Division for the start of the 1977/'78 season. The Club were crowned Division 1 Champions for 1982/'83 and since that promotion to the Premier Division of the Western League Bristol Manor Farm have played most of our football at that level. The last decade at the club has certainly been the most ambitious period of our history. An exciting run during the 2010/11 FA Cup competition saw us win a penalty shoot-out against Almondsbury Town and hold Basingstoke Town to a draw before being pipped by a single goal in the replay. 2011/'12 was the most successful season in the history of the club to that date. We won the GFA Challenge Trophy after beating Shortwood United 5-0 in a thrilling final and this was followed three days later with another cup triumph when we beat Willand Rovers in extra time to finally lift the Les Phillips Cup. We lost the GFA Trophy Final to Bristol Academy in 2012/'13 however and finished third from bottom of the Premier Division. After good service to the club, Manager John Black decided it was time to stand down. The start of the 2013/14 season saw the beginning of a new era at Bristol Manor Farm FC when current boss Lee Lashenko took over the Manager's job. Fresh from winning the title with Bishop's Sutton, Lashenko quickly made an impact with Manor Farm. An FA Cup run that saw us put nine goals past Oldland Abbotonians and then seven past Lymington Town quickly brought us to the attention of the national press. The tabloid photographers had a field day down at The Creek photographing the team with the FA Cup and a variety of 'farmyard' accessories and costumes it was a brilliant and fun day that everyone here will never forget! The First Round Qualifying Round tie against Corsham Town then ended in a 4 4 draw with Manor Farm winning the hard fought replay 1-0. We then also held Bridgwater Town to a 4-4 draw in the next round before narrowly going out 2-1 in the replay. The club continued to fight for top spot in the league and also applied for promotion to the Southern League. We finished the league season as Runners-up but were unsuccessful in our promotion bid when Larkhall Athletic were accepted ahead of us. It was the highest-placed finish in the club s league history, however, breaking club records for goals scored and fewest goals conceded. In Bristol Manor Farm missed out on promotion to the Southern League by 3 points, allowing Slimbridge to go up instead. We did win the GFA County Challenge Trophy however with a 2 0 win over local club Shirehampton. During an epic 2015/2016 season an heroic run in the FA Vase took us to within sniffing distance of Wembley with a notable comeback win in the fifth round, overcoming Sunderland RCA 3-2 and a long return trip to the North-East for a Quarter Final showdown with Morpeth Town. On a heavy pitch The Portwaymen were unlucky to go out with Morpeth scoring a breakaway goal in the dying seconds after Farm had laid virtual siege to The Highwaymen's goal throughout the second half. Morpeth went on to beat Hereford FC 4-1 in the showpiece Wembley final. We finished third in the Western Premier League just missing out once again on promotion but won the GFA County Challenge Trophy for the second season in succession with a record 9-2 win over Lydney Town in the final. On a happy night at Ashton Gate our former Exeter City and Truro City striker Dean Stamp also won the Bristol Post 'Footballer of the Year' award for his astonishing tally of 59 goals in all competitions. The many highlights of Manor Farm's triumphant 2016/17 season will be forever woven into the fabric of the club's history as we finally secured that elusive promotion to the Southern League in emphatic style, amassing 102 points and scoring over 100 goals on the way to being crowned as Western League Champions. We also unluckily missed out on a second FA Vase Quarter Final in succession with another narrow 2-1 defeat in a fifth round tie in front of 1,500 partisan fans at Bromsgrove Sporting FC. An extraordinary unbeaten league run of 21 games between September and March (19 wins and 2 draws) went a long way to securing the coveted league title for Manor Farm however, which was eventually clinched with three games to spare following a 2-0 win at local rivals Hallen on Good Friday.

Subsequently our debut in the Southern League last season saw Manor Farm emerge as the 'third team in Bristol' - behind only 'The Robins' and 'The Gas' as the top-rated non-league team in the city. This was reflected once again on another glittering night at Ashton Gate when we won the Bristol Post 'Team of the Year' award and Lee Lashenko was also a popular winner in the 'Coach of the Year' category. The team hit the ground running with a dramatic opening day victory away at North Leigh, overcoming a 2-0 deficit inside the first twenty minutes with an emphatic 5-2 comeback win. We occupied a top six berth for all but the season's final fortnight until narrow defeats to promoted champions Taunton Town and second-placed Salisbury helped push us agonisingly out of the play-off picture on a dramatic final day of the regular season. 16 MALCOLM S MUSINGS We welcome Bristol Manor Farm to Winchester for this afternoon s game. To date we have played them three times and have lost on each occasion.. Earlier in the season they beat us 3-1 scoring two early goals through Lewis Bamford and Jamie Bird with both goals being created by Jordan Metters. A good team goal enabled Bamford to score his second, with Oli Bailey who came on as a second half substitute scoring a consolation goal for Winchester. In last season s corresponding match Oli Bailey gave Winchester the lead in the second half, but Bristol Manor Farm bought on three attacking substitutes to try and get back in the game and the move paid dividends with goals in the last 10 minutes from Dean Stamp and Aron Robbins giving them victory. The game at Bristol saw a weakened Winchester team take the lead through Dan Williamson, but two goals from Ryan Mills and one apiece from Troy Simpson and Jay Adams gave Bristol Manor Farm a 4-1 win. Bristol Manor Farm last season just missed a playoff place, but this season are currently in the lower half of the table, but in the F A Cup achieved a splendid 5-2 victory against Basingstoke and a 2-2 draw with Slough. In the league they have beaten both Moneyfields and Blackfield and Langley. I first heard of Bristol Manor Farm when they were a Western League club and they joined Division 1 of this league in 1977/78 which was the second season in which the league operated with two divisions. After six seasons in which they never finished in the lower half of the table they were promoted to the Premier Division. Last season they were Premier Division champions having finished in the top four in each of the three previous three seasons. They have also made an impact in the F A Vase in the last two seasons reaching the quarter finals in 2015/16 where they were beaten by eventual winners Morpeth Town and the 5th round last season. Prior to last season I had no previous first-hand experience of Bristol Manor Farm football club, but note that in the 1984/85 FA Vase they played Eastleigh three times before winning the second replay. In the era when second replays were permitted rather than have a penalty shoot-out after a first replay it was a lot more common for teams to play each other three times in a week. After last season s corresponding game a race night was held at the club and it was also physio Jo Brocksom s birthday and the same day as our school reunion and a horse I named after our former headmaster won one of the races and our late life president Terry Bone mentioned my reaction to this in report of the event. At the game itself it was nice to meet their Press Officer Kevin O Donohoe who has links with Basingstoke. Bristol Manor Farm were only formed in 1961 and began life in the Somerset Senior League and quickly progressed through the divisions of this league prior to joining the Western League. They play at The Creek former home of Port of Bristol Authority Sports and Social club. Amongst their former players are Alan Crawford and Dave Mehew both of whom played over 240 games in the football league, and in Alan s case over 400. This will be our last Saturday home match of the season. Even if we reach the playoffs it is unlikely we will be playing a home match on Saturday. On Easter Monday we complete our home programme when Blackfield and Langley are our visitors. Thanks to Phil Watkins for sponsoring the Fleet match and congratulations to our under 16 team who have reached their second cup final of the season.

MATCH REPORT BY MALCOLM CLARKE WCFC 2-1 AFC TOTTON Winchester won a keenly contested local derby with AFC Totton 2-1 and it moves them back into 5th place, two points ahead of Cinderford whom we they play on the final day of the season. However the result virtually ends the playoff chances of both AFC Totton and Melksham, the latter whom Winchester visit on Good Friday. For me it was the first time I had seen Winchester beat AFC Totton having witnessed the last two corresponding matches which have produced one AFC Totton victory and one draw. The match was given an added spice by the fact that many of the players had represented both clubs, but one of these Winchester's Liam Gilbert was on a course and could not play. Rob Carr also had work issues which meant that he could only be named as a substitute and Tyrell Mitford and IK Hill coming into the starting line-up for these two players were the only two changes from Saturday's game at Yate. Amongst the Winchester substitutes was youngster Jack Francis as a crowd of 236 saw the game which included a few neutrals and some Eastleigh personnel who were unable to make their trip to Leyton Orient. Early on I K Hill forced a save from the away goalkeeper while blocks were made at both ends in a competitive start to the match. Another good run from IK Hill led to a corner which resulted in former AFC Totton player Rob Flooks getting on the end of Jamie Barron's flag kick to open the scoring in the 4th minute. Winchester were boosted by that goal and I K Hill forced a save from Shane Murphy they had a couple of near misses with the pace of Oli Bailey up front always a threat to the visitors defence, although AFC Totton came into the game with Ryan Pryce saving from Stuart Green, Craig Feeney and Alex Haynes. Winchester though again regained the ascendancy with IK Hill forcing another save from Shane Murphy and Tyrell Mitford also coming close. The visitors however finished the half strongly with only a last ditch clearance keeping them out and shortly before half time an effort from Feeney was deflected into the path of Justin Bennett and the prolific marksman made no mistake. The early part of the second half saw few chances although Simba Mlambo came close for Winchester and Callum Chugg made an important block. Early in the game's second period Rob Carr came on for Tyrell Mitford. However an important moment in the game occurred when AFC Totton's Jack Smith received a straight red card for a challenge on Oli Bailey. Having known Jack as a youngster at Eastleigh when he was an articulate co-commentator with Ian Wilding on Radio Solent it did seem a bit out of character, but the offence e was adjudged to be the use of an elbow. After that AFC Totton had to readjust and were as a result less of an attacking threat, although they were keeping Winchester at bay. However a penalty was awarded for a foul by Dave Allen on Oli Bailey and although Murphy saved Jamie Barron's initial effort the Winchester captain followed up to score. After this goal Winchester did not look like relinquishing this lead and Ron Carr had an effort saved and fellow substitute Jake Rawkins who had come on for I K Hill shot over following a good run from Simba Mlambo, but importantly the score remained unchanged and for the first time as manager of Winchester Craig Davis recorded a win against his former club.
