From the Directors Box Welcome, everyone, to Cuthbury for this Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying tie with Blackfield & Langley. Please make our visitors welcome. Blackfield play in the Wessex League Premier Division and are no strangers to Cuthbury as we had many a difficult game with them before our promotion to the Southern League. They have some quality players in their side including Magpie "old boys" Liam Green & Brad Magookin. An especially warm welcome to Liam & Brad. Last Saturday's game with Larkhall Athletic was an exciting affair which ended with that late equaliser from Ian Oliver. I doubt we'll see many better strikes than Ollie's at Cuthbury this season. And we face Larkhall again in seven days time - this time at their place in the FA Trophy. There's no coach going to that one because of access difficulties, so I hope those who want to go along can organise car sharing. Last Sunday we hosted the benefit game for Steve Moore and it turned out to be a fantastic day. Great credit goes to the organising committee which included Michele Govier, Brian McIntyre & Steve Cuss plus many others. On Wednesday I was privileged to be here to watch our Under 18s take on Ringwood Town in the FA Youth Cup. There's a report on the 4-2 win later in the programme. It was a delight to see the excellent football on display from both sides. Our lads face Sholing in the next round here at Cuthbury on Wednesday October 7th. Definitely a date for your diary. Things are moving ahead on the new ground front. You'll have seen in the Echo that Wyatt Homes have submitted the planning application and my understanding is that will be debated by the planning committee next month. Meanwhile we have another meeting with Wyatt Homes this coming week. If there's a result today, we'll playing Bridgwater Town here in the league on Tuesday. If today's game ends all square, the replay will be on Tuesday at Blackfield's "Gang Warily" ground. Enjoy this afternoon s game. Ken Fergus Finance Director Front Cover Photo - celebrating Oli s volley smiles all round at Cuthbury last Saturday after Ian Oliver volleyed that late equaliser against Larkhall Athletic. Nice one, Oli.

From the Dugout Welcome to today's FA Cup tie against Blackfield & Langley. We extend a welcome to the visiting management, players, directors and supporters. Last week's League game against Larkhall was a very physical and hard match, and in the end I thought we deserved to get a draw from the game. We got off to a great start with Mark Gamble's early goal. Defensively we then came under a lot of pressure and found ourselves 2-1 down. Again there was great resilience from the players in the fact that we stayed in the game and equalised through Carl Preston. Despite our efforts it looked like we were going to get nothing from the game as we were trailing 3-2 going into injury time but we got the point we deserved when Ian Oliver's volley from outside the box ended the game 3-3. I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended Steve Moore's Benefit Game last Sunday. It was fantastic to see so many ex-players of Wimborne Town present and the large crowd in attendance. Seeing Steve and his family together amongst friends was very important and we wish Steve all the best in his battle against his illness. On Wednesday night the U18's progressed through their first FA Youth Cup match with a 4-2 win over Ringwood Town. The team included Ryan Johnson and Callum O'Hare and the squad are now at home in the next round against Sholing. For today's game we will be without long term injured players Scott Arnold and Jack Lupton and we have doubts over Ian Oliver and Jason Harvell. Thanks for your continued support. Enjoy the game Steve Cuss If today s game is a draw after 90 minutes there will be a replay next Tuesday (29th), kick-off 7:45 pm at Blackfield & Langley s Gang Warily Recreation Ground in Fawley. There are directions to the ground later in the programme. Please note that there will NOT be a coach going.

From the Dressing Room Hi, and welcome to another FA Cup game here at the Cuthbury. At this stage of the competition the games are every other week, and it's good for the whole Club that we're having another Cup run. Today we're against Blackfield & Langley who play in the Wessex League. I'll come back to today's game later in my notes. Last Saturday we were at home in the league to Larkhall. Although we did the double over them last season, they went on to reach the play-offs, narrowly losing 3-2 at Stratford in the final. Although they lost half-a-dozen players to Frome pre season, they brought in a number of players with higher league experience from teams like Paulton. We knew they'd be a big strong physical side, and get the ball up to their strikers early, so we talked about how to deal with that. We started well and got that early goal, which Gambo despatched really well. Unfortunately one of our customary lapses of concentration meant we didn't hang onto the lead for very long. Their second goal came about 10 minutes into the second half, and left us with another mountain to climb. Preso's goal, direct from a corner on the right, brought us level. Preso will tell you that it was a deliberate in-swinger to the near post, but those of us nearer the goal will tell you that it came off the bottom of the defender's boot and skidded into the net. They took the lead again, and we threw everything at them to get another equaliser. Oli had had to really stretch to make a brilliant tackle on the half-way line, resulting in both his hamstrings becoming really tight. So when Billy s final throw and cross came in he wasn't quick enough to get into the box to go for the header. Which is why he was standing on the edge of the box and in the right place to strike that fantastic volley. Scoring that late made it feel more like a victory than a draw. I'm sure that for the neutrals it was another fantastic game. But for us players, and for Cussy too, a 1-0 win would go down really well. We've got some great players going forward, and we're always capable of scoring. The only problem at the moment is that we're letting goals in at the other end, and have to score at least 2 or 3 to get anything from the game. Then on Sunday we took part in the Benefit Game for Steve Moore. Mooro is a lovely fellow, and it was a fantastic day with the football community pulling together. The game was played in a great spirit, and I was pleased to score from distance. I hoped to be subbed straightaway, leaving that as my last contribution, but the boss left me on. Well done everyone for making it a brilliant occasion and for raising so much money for Mooro and his family. Back to today. I understand that Blackfield's manager, Howesy, was at the Larkhall game. They've got some experienced players, have only lost twice in 13 games, so we know it's going to be another tough game. But winning is important to the lads and the Club, and we want to be in the draw for the next round. We look forward to your usual great support. James Stokoe

Wimborne Town 3 Larkhall Athletic 3-19th Sept Ken Fergus reports A sensational volley from Ian Oliver in the 94th minute gave Wimborne a share of the points on Saturday. One up early on, the Magpies were then behind 2-1 & 3-2 before Ollie's late late show. With skipper Scott Arnold missing through injury, Steve Cuss moved Billy Maybury to right back and brought Adam Costello back into the starting lineup to partner Ian Oliver in central defence with Ryan Johnson at left back. Franklyn Clarke & Jon Blake were in midfield with Sam Griffin & Carl Preston out wide and James Stokoe & Mark Gamble up front. Wimborne hit the front after only 2 minutes and it was the Stokoe / Gamble partnership that delivered. Larkhall defender Ralph was caught in possession inside his own box by James Stokoe and his cross was turned in by Mark Gamble from 6 yards. The Magpies couldn't hold onto the lead, though, and the visitors equalised 6 minutes later, Lyons netting with a left foot shot from 12 yards. It was end to end stuff after that with neither side being able to convert some good chances into goals. On 13 minutes it seemed certain that Stokoe would restore the home lead when he met a Carl Preston cross after a great run from the former Poole man. But James' shot rebounded off the post and was cleared. Jason Harvell made a couple of good saves before Griffiths was the sinner for the visitors, shooting wide on 40 minutes with only Jason to beat. The second half started as the first had finished with both sides focused on attacking football. But it was Larkhall who went ahead for the first time on 58 minutes when Thorne was first to a second ball and shot home. Jason kept Wimborne in the game when he saved with his feet on 62 minutes. With 25 minutes remaining, Patrick Wilson came on to replace Ryan Johnson and the Magpies went with three at the back, Ollie moving to left back. On 70 minutes, a vicious shot from Mark Gamble from a tight angle was palmed away by Phillips in the Larkhall goal but, when Carl Preston's corner came in, it was met by unlucky Larkhall sub Wrona who saw the ball spin up off his boot, off the bar and (just) over the line. The generous tannoy announcer gave the goal to Carl! If Wimborne thought they would go on to win the game from here, they got a shock just 5 minutes later when Lyons grabbed his second of the day with a deflected shot to put Larkhall ahead again. Morgan Turner replaced Jon Blake on 85 minutes and, with time slipping away, the Magpies pressed forward. On 93 minutes a long throw from Billy Maybury was punched back to him and, when his cross was headed away, there was Ian Oliver to volley into the top corner from 20 yards. Ollie was mobbed by his teammates and the ref blew for time shortly after the restart. This was a cracking game of football and Ollie's goal was good enough to win any game, never mind get a draw. Overall a share of the points was fair, although Larkhall will be kicking themselves for losing the lead so late. The two teams meet again in the FA Trophy in just two weeks and it will be interesting to see if either side changes their approach based on what they've seen today. My star man for the Magpies was Mark Gamble, not just for his goal but for his work rate throughout. In truth, though, every man in black & white did well.

History of Blackfield & Langley F.C. - Founded in 1935 After playing in the war time Hythe and District League, the club joined the Southampton Junior League and in 1946 won the Division One title and appeared in the final of the Senior Cup losing to NDLC. However the following season they won the Cup and were Southampton League West Division champions. After this with progression in mind the Club applied to join the Hampshire League and when they were accepted made their debut in Division Three West in the 1950/1 season. Although they won the title the following season, the Club did not move into Division Two until 1956/7. They remained in this division for the next four seasons but were relegated at the end of 1959/60. Bad fortune lasted for 15 years as the Club dropped into Division Four, were promoted in 1974/5 after finishing third but dropped back again in 1979/80. Then in 1981/2 the Hampshire League reorganised and Division Four was swallowed up by Division Three and as runners up promotion was secured to Division Two. After three seasons in Division Two, promotion was gained to the top division, overhauling run away leaders, Locksheath, with a last match win at Cowes. In the first season in the top flight the Club finished a credible tenth. In the following seasons the Club established itself as one of the most consistent teams in the league with eleven top six finishes including, three second places and then won the elusive Championship in 1997/8. With the establishment of the Wessex League in 1986/87 Blackfield & Langley recognised that to compete against the best in local football the long term aim had to be elevation to the new league. With the emphasis for entry into the league being on facilities as much as ability on the pitch, negotiations were opened with Fawley District Council for a long lease on a ground which gave the Club the necessary security to develop it to the required standard. The pitch at Gang Warily was identified and the Council provided a playing surface that is the envy of many teams. The Chairman at the time, Hans McDonald, his successor Ian Hoare and an enthusiastic Committee set about bringing the ground up to standard. The best opportunity came in the Championship year 1997/8 but the funds ran out to complete ground improvements, so second place Moneyfields were promoted. The Club s chance for promotion came two years later. A last match win at West Wight Mayflower earned third place required and the dream had been realised after 50 seasons of Hampshire League Football. After 5 years in Wessex Div 1 the club were relegated to the new Div 2 in Over the years Blackfield and Langley has had their fair share of Cup success. In the 1980/90s the Club made six appearances at the Dell in the Southampton Senior Cup to add to the two in the 1940s, ending up as winners in four of them. The last success in 1998 producing a league and cup double. In the 2000 final the Club suffered the agony of losing 2-1 in a replay to AC Delco after a power failure lead to the abandonment of the first game with 15 minutes to go and with a 2-0 lead. The club were losing finalists in the Russell Cotes Cup in 1986, the Hampshire Youth League Cup in 1991 and the Hampshire Youth

History of Blackfield & Langley F.C. Cont d Floodlight Final in The Club in 2004/5 became only the second club in Hampshire football to be awarded the FA ADULT STANDARD CHARTER. In 2007/8 the Club were awarded FA CHARTER STANDARD status. The 2008/9 season saw success return to the Club with promotion back to the top division of the Wessex League under the guidance of Jon Gittens. Jon Gittens continued to be Manager for the 2009/2010 season and felt the Club had consolidated well into the Premier Division, finishing the season mid-table in the division. Jon Gittens left the club in the early part of the 2010/11 season and Assistant Manager Louis Bell was put in charge with the team eventually finishing in 14th position. 2011/2012 saw the club slip to 16th at the end of the season. The 2012/13 season was the club s most successful under the leadership of Ashley Vickers, winning the Sydenhams Wessex Premier league by 10 points, reaching the 4th Qualifying round of the FA Cup losing 3-0 to Hastings United and reaching the last 32 of the FA Vase. In stark contrast, 2013/2014 season was the most tumultuous in recent years with a number of changes in playing, coaching and management throughout the season, leaving the club unsettled for the most part. Taking on the manager s role, Kevin Gibbens, assisted by Chris Farrell, managed to finish a very credible 6th in the face of such adversity. 2014/15 season started with John Robson taking control of the 1st team and Darren Sayer coming in to run the reserves. The reserve side played in the Wyvern League East and, after an indifferent start to the season, Darren managed to settle the side down and had some useful players come in, two of which established themselves in the 1st team. To their credit, they finished a credible 5th in the league. The first team started off brightly and looked as if they were going to have a successful season in the league, but with some injuries and a general failure to score goals, the season didn t quite pan out as planned although we still finished a credible 5th in the league. Although we were knocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup early, we had relatively good runs in both the FA Cup and Vase, got to the semi-final of the Sydenhams League Cup but the success of the season was beating Gosport away in the Russell Coates Cup and going on to beat Horndean (2-0) in the final. Going in at 1-0 down we felt the next goal would be vitally important, sadly, it came quickly as Southampton doubled their lead. FA Youth Cup 1st Round Qualifying - Wimborne Town 4 Ringwood Town 2 aet 23rd September Ken Fergus reports Wimborne Town moved into the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Youth Cup and a home tie with Sholing with a 4-2 extra time win over Ringwood Town at Cuthbury on Wednesday. In front of a crowd of 55, the Young Magpies went 1-0 up through Yiannis Ratty with a long ball that deceived the Ringwood keeper on 14 minutes, only for the visitors to equalise before the break. Ringwood then went ahead just before the hour but Ratty notched his second of the game on 64 minutes to restore parity. Into extra time, then, and it was Wimborne looking the stronger. Charlie Bonnington put us ahead just two minutes into the extra period and, with Ringwood pressing for an equaliser, it was Bonnington again who scored the Magpies fourth on 114 minutes. This was an excellent performance by the lads and credit goes to the players and the management team of Tony Hennell, Martyn Clarke & Paul Barlow. The boys play Another good period came and went without us finding the net, and later Soton added a 3rd & 4th as we chased the game. Credit to Soton who played some great football, we wish them all the very best for the next round. in Division Two of the Dorset Under 18 Youth League, but for this game they were joined by Ryan Johnson from the First Team squad and Zeddy Phelps, Josh Wagstaff, Callum O Hare & Charlie Bonnington from the Reserves. Only three of the lads have reached their 17th birthday which means that the majority of the squad will still be playing under- 18 football next season. The two goalscorers both caught the eye for their skill and eye for goal, while half-time substitute Zeddy Phelps, who has just turned 16, looked a quality defender. The team was well marshalled by skipper Elliot Miller, son of our former Chairman. 33 Seeing Jack in a protective boot at last Saturday s game, we took the opportunity to find out about his injury. What is your injury? I ruptured my anterior taleo-fibular ligament (the ligament connecting the leg to the foot), and had a severe ankle impingement. How and when was it caused? Initially during training back in February. I put my foot out to block a shot. The ball hit the outside of my foot, causing it to turn inwards mid air. Instead of putting my foot down flat, I landed on the outside of my foot and all my weight went down on my ankle. It sounded like a pencil snapping. That practically ended my season. I tried to rest and recover over the summer, not knowing the full extent of the damage at this point. The day before pre season started this year, I rolled the ankle again, at which point I got a proper diagnosis. What's been the treatment? I had surgery on the 25th August. There were two procedures to address the two injuries. I had keyhole surgery across the top of my foot to clear the impinging and any extra bone that had formed. The second and more major procedure was to fix the ruptured ligament. A 4-5 inch incision was made down the outside ankle, a series of small holes were drilled into the bottom of the leg bone, into which anchors were screwed. The ligament was then pulled up and tied onto these anchors. I have just started physiotherapy, which will be lengthy, but is the final stage of treatment. When might you start training / playing again? I hope to be back playing around Christmas time. The Big Interview - Jack Lupton Is there anything you can do to keep fit while you recover? For two weeks following surgery I was in plaster and on crutches, so there was really nothing I could do. However now I am in a protective boot, I can walk around a bit more. I have been going to the gym every day, but at this stage all I can really do is upper body and right leg weights. Gradually I will be able to do more and more cardio work on my way back to full fitness. As much as I am desperate to run around, I also understand the importance of not rushing things and being patient. Has it affected your day job? I had three weeks off work following surgery, but now I am in the boot I am back to work in a normal capacity. I have a desk job, so it doesn't impact my work too much. Anything else you d like to add? A positive mentality is key. I have had lengthy injuries before, and I know that keeping upbeat, listening to health professional's advice and doing everything I possibly can to help recovery along, all help towards a full and thorough recovery. That sounds like good advice, Jack. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. On behalf of all the supporters, we wish you a full and speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing you on the pitch again soon.

What were the reasons behind your move to Wimborne? To gain southern league football experience and to develop as a player. What are your first impressions of Wimborne as a club? Very friendly. The players have all made me feel welcome and I feel a part of the squad already. Also a club looking to go places. We want to win football matches and finish as high up the table as possible. Which professional player do you most admire, and why? Cristiano Ronaldo. I saw him come through at United and to see how hard he has worked to get where he is now is inspirational. Always believe in your ability, make sacrifices and work hard. There are times you may feel like it is impossible but you have to keep believing. 36 Southern League News Merthyr Town Judged Best Grassroots Club in UEFA Awards - 14 Sept 2015 Merthyr Town FC have been recognised and rewarded at the very highest level for their outstanding contribution to their local community with the announcement that they have won the Gold Award for the Best Grassroots Club in the 2015 UEFA Grassroots Awards. Football can play an important role in the promotion of positive messages and the tackling of social issues and those are both impressive features of the Best Grassroots Club winner at Merthyr Town FC, said UEFA President Michel Platini following the announcement. The club has enabled a variety of target groups to enjoy football by taking part in the sport and this ensures there is a positive future ahead for those involved. The 2015 awards were announced as part of UEFA Grassroots Week, which has been aligned for the first time with the European Commission's Week of Sport. We really believe that Merthyr epitomise everything that we are trying to achieve through our grassroots programme, said Jamie Clewer, Head of Growth at the Welsh Football Trust. There's a real diversity to everything that they offer. We're really pleased that it has been recognised. Merthyr Town FC have been celebrated by UEFA as a club that embodies the very essence of sport and community spirit, embracing coach education, fun football, and smallsided games while facilitating the sport for a wide target group. With the pitch always in use, the club is able to use football as a means of tackling social issues at the heart of the town. With Merthyr Town, I think what sets us apart is we're looking to be a club for everyone, not just for the elite, not just for the kids at the academy, not just for the fans, but for every one of all ages, gender, ability, disability... that's what makes it special, said Elliott Evans, the Community Development Officer at Merthyr Town FC. To be awarded the UEFA Grassroots Award, it's a massive achievement for us and it's a privilege to be part of it. For the community project there's no doubt that it's our proudest moment yet. Since the introduction of the pitch the academy has trebled, quadrupled maybe, with the usage there, explained a proud Meurig Price, Chairman of Merthyr Town FC. The fun camps with the schools during the holidays, the ladies team, the disability team, the walking football team - I don't think there's any group of people that have been left out. 38 Plans to move Wimborne Town FC Submitted Daily Echo Weds 23 Sept 2015 Plans to move Wimborne Town FC to a new location in the town have been submitted to the council. The proposals would see the Southern League club currently based in Cowgrove Road relocated to land off Parmiter Drive. New football pitches, a clubhouse, stands, changing facilities and parking would be created at the site, as well as 81 new homes, allotments, a 'teenage activity space' and a Site of Alternative Natural Greenspace, or SANG. Former Wimborne Town chair Paula Henley unveiled plans for the new ground in February, saying the facility would have "an awful lot of potential". The stadium would be constructed at the cost of Wyatt Homes, who plan to build housing on Wimborne s current premises. And club director Ken Fergus said he is optimistic about Magpies' future at the site. "Building in the area of Cuthbury has been in the strategic plan for East Dorset for some time now, and as a result of that the developers must provide a new location for the club. "That other location is designated in the plan. We are in ongoing talks with the developers, and have been for the last two or three years." A planning application for the site has now been submitted to East Dorset District Council, and members of the public are invited to have their say until early next month. Mr Fergus admitted it would be a "big wrench" to leave Cuthbury, where the team have been based for many years. "On the other hand, it's exciting to be able to move to a new area. It's not too far out of town, so we're hopeful that it will be a positive move for the club," he said. Developers hope to begin building at the 12-acre Parmiter Drive site as early as next year. Council officers have called the scheme an "important initial piece in a wider jigsaw of development planned for Wimborne". A total of 192 dwellings are proposed by Wyatt Homes for Cuthbury, where 20 existing properties will be replaced and land has been identified for possible extension to Wimborne hospital. A planning application has not yet been submitted for the land. As part of the core strategy for Christchurch and East Dorset, a total of 350 homes, a sports village, new allotments, a local centre, land for a school and a country park are due to be provided for land south of Leigh Road. Parmiter Drive must be developed to enable the relocation of Wimborne Town FC and some of the allotments remaining at Cuthbury. The estimated cost of construction at the site is around 13million, providing 100 full time construction jobs each year and up to four times that in the supply chain. The proposed 81 dwellings will accommodate around 185 people, and developers say 40 of the properties around 50 per cent will be affordable.
