3 From the Directors Box Good afternoon, and welcome to Cuthbury to our visitors from Larkhall. We extend our hospitality to the officials, players, staff and supporters, and hope you enjoy your time with us and have a safe journey home. It s been a mixed start to the season result wise 2 resounding wins and 2 defeats in the league, together with a disappointing cup exit to Andover. It s still early days and every team appears capable of beating each other but it s good to see that we are continuing to play our football in the right way and there have been plenty of goals! Today s match has been brought forward from later in the month as a result of the early exit from the FA cup of both teams. I ve spoken before about the loss of revenue from an early cup exit and whilst we don t budget for long cup runs its disappointing for all concerned to have gone out so early, and so pushing on in the league is the focus for the moment. In the meantime we wish Andover the best of luck in today s next round. Elsewhere the Development Squad are now up and running in the Wyvern League and whilst they suffered a heavy defeat at Poole Town during the week, the football, much like the first team, is played in the right way and as the title suggests we continue to develop the youngsters in the right way. Hopefully as the season progresses we ll start to see a couple filtering into the First Team match day squad. Last week s Family Fun Day went well - and the weather was great so a big thanks to all those that attended. As it was the first time we d held such an event it was always going to be a tricky one to organise and to be confident on numbers but the feedback was largely positive so a big thanks to Louise for organising this event. Keep your eyes peeled for other forthcoming events which we ll publicise in the clubhouse / website / programme etc in the usual way. Supporting these events will really help the club. Thanks as always for your support. 5 From the Dugout Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our league game v Larkhall, I would like to welcome the players, staff and supporters of Larkhall to Wimborne for the game today. Today s game will be another tough task. We won here narrowly, and lost away narrowly last season, they have some dangerous players which we will need to be fully aware of. The response last Saturday v Yate after our FA Cup defeat to Andover on the Tuesday was fantastic. After a slow start we grew into the game and scored some wonderful goals. Going 4-0 up late into the second half, I felt a clean sheet was on the cards but we suffered another sending off with Lee, and a soft penalty for Yate made the score line closer than what it should have been. The lads gave everything in the heat on Saturday so going into the bank holiday game on the Monday v Winchester was always a concern as it was our 4th game in 10 days. The 1-0 loss to Winchester on Monday was a real blow, anyone watching the game would have felt a draw minimum was a fair result. A lapse in concentration saw us give away a silly free kick and allow their centre back a free header to score. What delighted me most was the way we attacked them in second half and showed real hunger to get back into the game. They defended deep and resolutely to secure the 3 points but we certainly finished the game the stronger. August has seen us win 2 and lose 2. On reflection we are disappointed with our points return and feel that we should have a minimum of 8 points from the 4 games so far. The positive and most important part for me is that August has seen us compete in every game and performances at times have been excellent. We have a good base to build on with a tough September now looming. We hope Scotty will play a game on Wednesday in the Development Squad on his road to recovery. Josh Hartley and Will Prior are still longer term injuries, Dan Cann and Toby are being assessed this week to see if they will feature in the game today. I hope you all enjoy the game this afternoon. 7 From the Dressing Room Hi, and welcome to our third home league game of the season, today it s against Larkhall. This game was originally scheduled for a Tuesday night at the end of the month, but as we d both been knocked out of the FA Cup in the Preliminary Round and had a vacant Saturday, it s been brought forward. I was unavailable for last Saturday s win over Yate, so you probably know more about that than I do. However, I was back for Monday s game at Winchester. It was an incredibly warm Bank Holiday, and the afternoon was more suited for sitting on the beach than playing football. There were no drinks breaks during our game, but I understand that at Salisbury the referee called for one every 20 minutes. Canny picked up a muscle strain in the Yate game so Matty decided to rest him, and asked me to play up front with Toby. I m happy to play in any position and will always do my best wherever Matty wants to play me. We were set-up as normal with the intention of keeping the ball. It was a bitty sort of game. I thought we defended well, and they didn t really cause us too many problems. They threw up long balls from the back, and we dealt with them OK. They had a couple of tall and quick defenders at the back, the no.6 was a good match for Toby in the foot races, but really we didn t give Toby much to feed off. Our best chances in the first half came from Luke s corners. We practise setpieces a lot in training, and it almost paid off. From one of them Matty O had a shot cleared off the line and the keeper saved the follow-up. We lacked some quality in the final third. As the game went on the heat seemed to drain the energy out of everyone on the pitch, and at the end even the ref was quick to grab a bottle of water. We were disappointed not to come away with something from the game and should have had at least a point. After the first month of the season we ve got six points from four games, and we re not too disheartened by that. If we d picked up a point or two from the away games at Didcot and Winchester we d be sitting quite high in the early league table. Larkhall had a good win at Barnstaple, and lost by the odd goal in three to both Winchester and Bristol Manor Farm, so we ll need to be at our best today. But we ve won both our league games at home, and the boys will be doing their best to keep that going today. I m sure many of you will remember Kev James who used to play for us. I m still in touch with him, and he texted to say he d be at last Monday s game. I tried to persuade him to bring his boots with them, but he s hung them up. I had a good chat with him after the game. He does some running to keep fit. I hope you enjoy today s game. James Stokoe

9 Wimborne Town 4 Yate Town 2-26 August Dave Briggs reports After building up a comfortable four goal lead, Wimborne Town had to fend off a late rally as the visitors ran in two goals and hit the crossbar.. Yate have made an unsatisfactory start to the season, but this was not in evidence as they made a confident start to the game. For the first ten minutes or so they looked the better team, but Wimborne settled down and the game was pretty even for the remainder of the half. That is except for the finishing. There were a few chances at each end, but on the half hour Wimborne went ahead when Jack Lovell took a throw-in and collected the return ball, carried it into the corner of the area, and placed a superb shot into the far top corner of the net. The visitors deserved better than to go in at half time a goal down, but things got worse when, in the last minute of the half, Toby Holmes collected a pass from Luke Holmes just outside the area and, from a narrow angle, blasted the ball into the top near corner of the net. Five minutes into the second half, Wimborne extended their lead with another excellent goal by Toby Holmes. After collecting the ball just outside the penalty area, he cut in along the six yard line, beating three defenders before placing the ball into the net.. On 73 minutes Wimborne were reduced to ten men when Lee Francis received a second yellow for a rash tackle, his first being for the ref. adjudging a dive a few minutes earlier. In spite of that, Wimborne made it four after eight minutes when Ben Mogg, who had come on as a substitute for the injured Dan Can, did well to collect a pass from the right and squeezed it past the advancing keeper from six yards. Yate were given a glimmer of hope on 85 minutes when the ref. awarded them a penalty for an alleged foul by Matty Oldring. Brad Norris put away the kick and the visitors were fired into a final effort to salvage something from the game. They upped their game and had a free kick smash against the crossbar. Two minutes into added time Norris scrambled in a second from close range, but time had run out and the visitors returned home empty handed. Wimborne Team: Gerard Benfield, Stefan Penny, Ben Walker, Billy Maybury (c), Matty Oldring, Louis Kellaway, Lee Francis, Luke Holmes, Toby Holmes, Dan Can, Jack Lovell. The visitors took only 7 minutes to break the deadlock when Ryan Brett shot home following a cross by Lewis Powell. Powell missed a great chance to increase the visitors lead his penalty being saved by Harry Pickering in the 38th minute. Powell made amends by providing the cross for Pierce Mitchell to turn home for Taunton s second in the 48th minute. However, the Peacocks were reduced to ten-men in the 71st minute when Matt Villis was sent-off for a foul on Levi Cox, who got up to slot home the resultant penalty to make it 2-1. AFC Totton, Bideford, Salisbury FC, Larkhall Athletic, Evesham United and Kidlington all suffered their first league defeats of 2017/18. The Stags were beaten 2-1 at Testwood Park by Slimbridge, for whom Sam Turl and Alex Hoyle had them two-up by the 19th minute Stuart Mott replying right on half-time. Bideford also lost at home 1-0 to Supermarine, for whom this was a first win after two opening draws Josh Parsons the scorer after 24 minutes. Steve Claridge`s Whites lost 2-1 at North Leigh, for whom Roger James` brace in the 29th and 80th minutes proved enough, despite Kane O`Keefe`s 65th minute reply. Mangotsfield U 2-0 Bishops Cleeve North Leigh 2-1 Salisbury Paulton Rov 2-0 Evesham U Shortwood U 1-2 Taunton T Wimborne T 4-2 Yate T The Larks were another to lose at home 2-1 to Winchester City, whose Rob Carr opened the scoring on the hourmark. Dan Restorick equalised 5 minutes later, only for Pat Cox to win it for City 12 minutes from time. Evesham were Paulton Rovers` first victims of the season as goals in each half from Kailan Gould and Sam Hedges proved enough. Kidlington were edged out at home by the odd goal in five by new boys Bristol Manor Farm. Kye Holly gave the visitors an early 4th minute lead, but the hosts led 2-1 by the 76th minutes through Darius Browne and Eric Odhiambo. However, Lloyd Mills levelled a minute from time and then Troy Simpson won it for Farm 5 minutes into stoppage time. There were first wins for Mangotsfield United and Barnstaple Town. The managerless Mangos inflicted a third successive defeat on Bishops Cleeve at Cossham Street while Barum won 3-1 at relegated Cinderford Town with goals from Jordan Charran, Nathan Cooper and Tiegan Rosenquest Andy Lewis replying from the spot. Elsewhere, Didcot Town earned a second win, impressively 2-1 at the Corinium Stadium against Cirencester Town with a last-gasp Seth Humphries effort after Louis Joyce had cancelled out Alan Griffin`s 20th minute opener. Wimborne won 4-2 at home to Yate.

12 Winchester City 1 Wimborne Town 0-28 Aug Graham Dunn reports As the two teams toiled in the torrid temperature, Winchester stole the points with a single goal after 29 minutes. The anticipated duel-in-the-sun between top strikers Holmes and Cox did not materialise as defences dominated. Manager Holmes rested Dan Cann, and versatile skipper Stokoe took his place up front alongside Holmes. In the opening exchanges it was Winchester s marauding right back, Williamson, who caught the eye and caused the visitors problems, but Maybury s positioning and timing dealt with the danger. On 12 minutes, slick passing between Francis, Walker and Stokoe gave Luke Holmes the opportunity to almost play Lovell through on the right. Then Kellaway played a ball down the right for Walker, but he was just beaten in a foot race by keeper Pryce. In midfield, mis-placed and over-hit passes typified the early stages of play, as defences kept on top. The opening, and only, goal came after 29 minutes. Winchester won a free-kick wide on their right. The initial ball was dealt with, but the second cross was glanced goalwards by Harfield, the tall defender, and his looping header went over Benfield and into the far corner. Wimborne responded and came close four minutes later. Luke Holmes corner on the left was met by Oldring but his effort was blocked on the line, and Pryce made a good reaction save to the follow-up. On 36 minutes, Maybury s central freekick 30 yards out was deflected for a corner. Luke s in-swinging corner looked to be going straight in until Pryce got a hand to it in a melee of players. At the start of the second-half, Mogg replaced Toby. Walker was involved in the action at both ends. Firstly he came in from the right to try his luck, but his shot was high and wide. And then, at the other end, he made an excellent defensive header. As the half progressed, Wimborne s slick passing game worked well in the middle third, but it was proving difficult to create clear-cut chances against the well-organised home defence. Chasing the game, the visitors changed formation, with the vocal and all-action Oldring holding firm at the back. Wimborne did have chances in a lively last 10 minutes. Bayston s snap shot was well saved, Walker s shot was blocked, and Lovell s header was in turn headed off the line. But the home side had a lead to defend, and were clearly determined to do so. Both teams deserve credit for their exertions in the searing heat, but, in truth, the game will not stay long in the memories of those who watched it. In front of a crowd of 401, Les Afful gave the Peacocks a 26th minute lead from the penalty spot and then Ollie Chamberlain took them into the break two-up with a second right on the whistle. On-loan striker Olly Mehew confirmed victory with a third with 8 minutes remaining. Newcomers Bristol Manor Farm also remain unbeaten, taking second spot in the table after a 2-1 home win over neighbours Larkhall Athletic. Troy Simpson gave Farm a 10th minute lead they held until the 65th minute when Cory Simpson equalised. Dean Stamp won it for the hosts with 10 minutes to go. Josh Parsons gave `Marine a 14th minute lead at home against relegated Cirencester Town. Alan Griffin responded within 3 minutes, but Brad Hooper`s penalty 5 minutes into the second half sealed the home side`s win. Shortwood United and Cinderford Town both recorded first wins of the new campaign. Levi Cox proved to be Shortwood`s hero as he netted a hat-trick in their 3-1 win at Slimbridge. Marley Thomas had given the hosts a 9th minute lead before Cox struck in the 53rd, 60th and then completed his triple 4 minutes into stoppage time. Cinderford also triumphed on their travels, inflicting a fourth successive defeat on Bishops Cleeve. Declan Morley-Lyne after 22 minutes, a Lewis Clayton own goal 3 minutes later and then Rob Atkinson 9 minutes from time sealed the Foresters comfortable win. Josh Harfield`s goal on the half-hour mark eventually proved enough for Winchester City at home to Wimborne Town, while the second biggest crowd of the day in the division 502 saw Bideford triumph in the Devon derby at Barnstaple Town, thanks to goals from Ryan Turner after 14 minutes and Billy Tucker in the 81st minute, Chris Ibbeson replying for Barum 3 minutes from time. The biggest crowd was at at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium to see Salisbury beat AFC Totton 2-0, courtesy of goals from Marvin Brooks in the 29th and then on the hour-mark from the spot. A crowd of 413 saw Yate Town and visiting Mangotsfield United share a 1-1 draw in which the Mangos` Mitch Bryant opened the scoring after 19 minutes. Ben Brooks eventually pulled the Bluebells level just past the hour-mark. George Reid`s goal 13 minutes from the end saw Didcot Town win at home to Kidlington in the day`s other match.

Larkhall Athletic F.C. a brief history Larkhall Athletic Football Club dates from In 1951 the club regained access to its home at Plain Ham after it had been turned over to allotments during WWII. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, achieving the status in 2004 as a Premier Club and in 2008 as an FA Charter Standard Community Club, the first club to achieve this recognition in Bath. This status was renewed in 2011 and Initially the club rented Plain Ham match by match. It offered a sloping pitch, a timber hut for changing and a single tin bath for washing, a nearby standpipe providing the water source. In the early 60s Bath City Council granted the club a long lease on the ground at Plain Ham. A small club house was erected in In 1975 the main football pitch at Plain Ham was levelled and in 1983 the club house and changing rooms were doubled in size. In 1996, aided by a Lottery Grant, the club further extended and improved its club house. In 2004 Plain Ham was re-levelled, drainage improved and floodlights installed, all with the help of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund. At the same

28 Larkhall Athletic F.C. a brief history cont d time the car park was extended and new floodlights installed on the training area. In 2005 the club completed the purchase of Plain Ham from the Local Authority. In 2010 the battle with drainage of Plain Ham was once again a priority and in 2011 the hard standing was further extended to completely surround the pitch. To meet FA grading requirements, applications for funding to Sport England and Football Stadia Improvement Fund were successful, This has enabled the club to update the clubhouse to provide improved hospitality facilities for spectators and visiting officials, additional seats, more covered standing, improved turnstiles and new outside toilets. Further facility improvements, including a new ground boundary fence, pitch perimeter infill and a medical room have enabled us to satisfy the Grade D requirements. On the pitch the first team have a long list of honours, including: the Somerset Senior Cup in seasons in and , the Western League First Division Championship in and , the Western League Premier Division Championship in and the Western League double - Premier Division Championship and Les Phillips Cup in The Larks reached the last 16 of the FA Vase three seasons in succession; in and we lost to the eventual finalists of the competition. In 2014 we gained promotion to the Southern League. Our first season was a huge success and we reached the play-off final where we narrowly lost out 3-2 to Stratford Town. We also enjoyed a wonderful FA Cup campaign defeating Merthyr Town and Truro City away before losing in a replay with Gosport Borough from the FA Conference. In December 2011 we were selected by our local paper, the Bath Chronicle, as the local sports team of the year; quite an honour given the richness of the local competition. In 2014 the club was once again selected by the local paper for an award, this time as Senior Team of the Year. In July 2015 we were honoured to receive FA Charter Standard Community Club of the year award from the Somerset FA. This season we are looking to build on the success and enjoyment of our first three seasons in the Southern League while recognising the very stern challenge that this will present. 30 From the Daily Echo Archives Wimborne Town 3 Larkhall Athletic 0-24 January 2015 The ease with which Wimborne brushed aside the Western League champions would suggest their season is far from over. The Larks had arrived at Cuthbury bidding to extend a 4-match unbeaten run which had thrust them into the Division One South & West promotion picture. With just 36 seconds on the clock, Larkhall s keeper Alex Shaftoe contrived to gift Magpies a lead they would never look likely to surrender. A routine back-pass should have been food and drink for Shaftoe until his Lionel Messi impression turned very messy. He looked far from comfortable with the ball at his feet, a situation Jon Blake seized on, with Shaftoe s hurried clearance striking the midfielder and rolling into an unguarded net. Shaftoe did manage, albeit at the second attempt, to snaffle a speculative shot from Jamie Davidson before the stopper was berated by his own teammate following another awful clearance. Although he saved from Sam Griffin before the visitors appealed in vain for a penalty after Ross Lye had gone to ground under a challenge from Wimborne s emergency goalkeeper Paul Roast, things got worse for Shaftoe. He dropped Griffin s corner on the head of team-mate Matt Thorne whose luckless own goal doubled Wimborne s lead in the 10th minute. Larkhall offered little going forward and Roast, starting in goal for Wimborne for the first time in his long career with the club, could have been forgiven for putting up his shooting stick. Thorne s effort five minutes into the second half was correctly chalked out for offside before Mark Gamble was booked for diving after going to ground under Shaftoe s challenge. Larkhall midfielder Ross Lye, yellow carded for simulation in the first half, received a second caution and his marching orders for speaking out of turn following one of many baffling decisions from the referee in the 61st minute. And while the official s ambivalent display had the Larkhall bench hot under the collar on a number of occasions, Lye s dismissal was needless and frustrated visiting manager Wayne Thorne. Wimborne, who rarely had to break sweat to become the first team to do the double over Larkhall this season, put the finishing touches to a facile victory when Gamble sprung the offside trap and rounded Shaftoe to complete the scoring after 68 minutes. Magpies: Roast, Biles, Lupton, Maybury, Costello, Blake (Holmes, 80), Griffin (Waters, 88), Davidson, Kellaway, Gamble (Wilcox, 84), Stokoe. Unused sub: Field (g/k). 37 WTFC Development Squad - Match Reports by Terry Wateridge Two weeks ago saw the start of the season for the Development Squad in the Midweek Wyvern League. Playing away to Basingstoke we lost 4-0 against an experienced under 21 side and never really got into our stride. This was our first match for some period of time with a lot of new players. Last week (23 Aug) we entertained Moneyfields who again fielded an older team. We started very bright and took an early first half lead through Josh Hall who finished well close in. We continued to dominate the game and went further ahead mid-way through the second half with a superb strike from Robbie Bradley. At the start of the second half, Moneyfields had their best and only spell for ten minutes. During this time they forced a penalty which was well saved by Jason Collins. This was the end of Moneyfields getting back into the game which we then dominated to the end. The third goal came from an excellent free kick taken by Charlie Tilsed. A few minutes before the end a good free kick taken by Josh Stacey from the left was met by Rob Okumu whose run was not picked up to finish well. We have a very young squad with nearly all our players ranging from 16 to 18 years of age. This was a very solid all round performance from the whole squad with some good football being played. Kenna had been posting live Twitter updates of their preliminary round tie when he was called on as substitute with just ten minutes to go. The tweets then ended without explanation as Spartan South Midlands Division One outfit Baldock went on to win 3-1. Kenna joked: The secretary used to do it but he left at the end of the season and because I have a bad back I ve been doing it. 38 Wimborne Town F.C. Youth Section - U18s Darren Shepherd - Wimborne Town FC U18s Manager Our current South-West Counties Youth League U18s team came across to Wimborne Town FC as U12s to train alongside the older age groups, ready to enter as U13s in the Junior Premier League. This has proved to be a great experience for the boys over the years. They have consistently improved as a team, new lads have inevitably joined our squad along the way. There are a number of current players who first trained as U12s, which is great to see. The JPL was all about developing the boys technically as footballers, which we fully believe has been achieved. As a team they have had a lot of success over the years within the JPL leagues and cups. In addition to this they have reached the prestigious Hampshire Cup Final as U15s only to unfortunately lose on penalties. Last year as U16s they managed to reach the Hampshire Cup Final again and finally won, beating Fareham 3-2 in a highly entertaining game to watch. The team are about to begin a new phase in their development as we prepare to enter the U18s South-West Counties Youth League. This league is of a very high standard and will be extremely competitive with a lot of competent teams taking part. It is regarded as one of the best leagues for establishing youth talent into the senior game. Our home league games will be played on the excellent 3G playing surface at Blandford School, which has been our home venue for the previous 2 seasons. Our South-West Counties Youth league season starts with an away trip to Salisbury City FC on September 9th, Kick Off 10:30am. This will be followed by a home fixture against New College Swindon on September 16th, Kick Off 11am. We will also be taking part in the South- West Counties Youth League Cup. Other competitions we are entering this season are the FA Youth Cup, where we have been drawn away vs Sholing FC on week commencing Monday September 18th, Kick Off TBC, and the Hampshire Midweek Flood-Lit Cup where we have been drawn against Andover Town FC U19s away on Thursday October 5th, Kick Off 7:00pm. A number of our boys have recently had the opportunity to play for the Development team and this will continue over the next season, which is valuable experience of playing senior football. All together this year promises to be an exciting time for our players. It would be great to see a few of these boys eventually play First Team football for Wimborne Town FC. They certainly have the desire for it. You can follow our progress on the main Wimborne Town FC website, including regular updates, match and progress reports. Any support would be greatly appreciated as these lads attempt to progress further in their footballing pathway. All league games are played on Saturday mornings. I studied BSc Sports Therapy at the University of St.Mark and St.John, Plymouth over 3 years. During this time I also work with the university football and hockey teams. Additionally, I completed a placement with Plymouth Argyle FC first team, and went on to work with them for a period after the completion of my degree. I then moved back to Poole to start working with Total Therapy, where I am still based after 18 months! I've also recently become qualified in Immediate Trauma and Medical Management in football. What's your football / sporting history? I ve played football for as long as I can remember! I played for Parkstone Heights and Poole Town FC during my youth, as well as playing for my school, college and university teams. I also enjoy paddle boarding, tennis and squash. I enjoy most sports (as long as I m good at them!). What are you looking forward to about the role? I m looking forward to applying my knowledge to the benefit of the team and getting to know the playing and coaching staff and hopefully watching some good football! What do you think will be the greatest challenges in the role? As well as trying to deal with injuries as they come, I also think a challenge lies in ensuring that the players previous injury history doesn t affect them in moving forward. So I need to ensure that me and the players build a good relationship in order to optimise the outcome of their rehabilitation.. they ve been very good so far! Prevention is better than cure! Tell us a little-known fact about yourself I m extremely competitive! I was one of sixteen people to win a trip to the 2006 world cup.. shame it was 0-0 England vs Portugal.. 45 Non-League Paper Programme Column by Matthew Bishop The new season is not even a month old, but already, five managers in the National League have either been sacked or resigned from their respective roles. It s a shocking statistic, but in this day and age, is the number of bosses leaving their jobs that surprising? However, what is maybe more surprising is the number of resignations. What do they say about the shape football is in at the moment? Are trigger-happy chairmen and the pressures of modern football making managerial jobs harder than ever before? Kevin Nicholson was the first boss to be relieved of his duties this season, when the Torquay United manager was sacked after just five games. Granted, it was a poor start to the campaign for the Gulls but just three months ago, Nicholson was the man leading Torquay to National League safety. He deserved more time to turn things around. Just five days after Nicholson was let go, another Non-League stalwart saw his managerial reign come to an end as the Gordon Bartlett stepped down as Wealdstone boss after 22 years. While he wasn t sacked, the ambitious aspirations of Stones chairman Peter Marsden meant Bartlett s job was becoming increasingly pressurised, so he stepped down to take a youth development role with the club. This season was Bartlett s best opportunity to fulfil his dream and lead Wealdstone to the top tier of Non- League football, but after a tough start, it was deemed best for the longest serving manager in England to leave his job. Elsewhere in Non-League, Hungerford saw their manager of eight years, Bobby Wilkinson, leave the club, Barrow s Paul Cox resigned despite overseeing such a great season last term and, most recently, Whitehawk s Jimmy Dack resigned with the team rooted to the foot of National League South. It is no secret being a football manager is a very tough job, and the number of bosses leaving their roles already this season highlights that. With more money in the game, higher demands and greater expectations, it seems we aren t giving managers the time they deserve to do jobs to the best of their abilities, and many are moving on. Non-League Day will return for an eighth consecutive season on Saturday 7th October With England playing on October 8th and no Premier League or Championship games scheduled, the date provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of volunteer-led community football, while empowering fans to show support for their local non-league side.

46 Dorset Dave s Chuckle Corner Sandro s holding his face. You can tell from that it s a knee injury. - Former footballer Dion Dublin Players win games, but managers give you the impotence to go and do it. - Welsh international Lee Fowler If he d done that, no one would have batted an eyebrow. - Former player Phil Thompson Frank Lampard has still got the same legs he had five years ago. - Former footballer and manager Ray Wilkins Aaron Ramsey hasn t always been the flavour of the Arsenal fans eyes. Former Scottish international Craig Burley The ball came off the left breast of Sebastien Bassong. - Broadcaster Sam Matterface Sessegnon gets it on his left hand foot. - Former manager Iain Dowie In his interviews, Beckham manages to sit on the fence very well and keeps both ears on the ground. - Ex-Ireland manager Brian Kerr And now for Dave s limerick: There was a young man from Larkhall Who was invited to a fancy dress ball He thought he would risk it and go as a biscuit But a dog ate him up in the hall Voted third Best Joke at this year s Edinburgh Fringe I ve given up asking rhetorical questions. What s the point? - Alexei Sayle Dear John A reader writes: Dear John, My wife and I are having a disagreement, and I wonder if you could help. I think it's right to conserve resources, including my money. So recently I've been popping my smalls into the dishwasher just before we turn it on to save water and electricity. However, my wife isn't very keen on the idea. What do you think? John s answer: Well I'm not too surprised that she's not keen on your idea. Have you considered the fallout of this situation? Say you have friends round for a meal and you had a hot curry. After they ve gone you put the dishes in the dishwasher followed by your smalls with no Comfort liquid (other brands available). I can see that when you re out shopping or doing something else and you start to sweat then you could develop a nasty rash. It would be so embarrassing to let other people see you scratching in delicate places. So I agree with your wife - don't be so tight, and pay the electric. If not, carry on scratching! Hope I've been of some help Graham.
